Most recently, we made a special request for a couples care MCP who could bring dementia expertise for my mother with Alzheimer's, along with mobility and orthopedic experience to support my father, a wheelchair user who lost the use of one hand due to a stroke. Before this new MCP's start day, my mother suddenly fell and broke her hip, requiring a 12-week recovery that began with three weeks in a San Rafael skilled nursing facility (SNF). Our Tender Rose MCP quickly built a connection with my mother while attending her daily PT and OT sessions at the SNF and successfully advocated for her to receive more attentive care there. Our Tender Rose Care Manager met in person with the SNF physician team, while also supporting our MCP in preparing the home for my mother's return. Before discovering Tender Rose, our family often felt overwhelmed. It is clear that Tender Rose has spent years building thoughtful processes and systems that allow staff to listen and respond quickly to client needs by phone, text, email, or software app. Tender Rose's efforts have allowed both of my disabled parents to continue aging in place in the home they love, with a daily quality of life that remains enjoyable and dignified. My experience with Alameda Care Hospice was a mixed bag, ultimately ending very sadly. I'm not sure…read morewhat happened, but communication and consistency were ongoing issues that progressively worsened. At first, there was consistency in who showed up and knew what our options were, but as time went by, we wouldn't know who was coming and when. Initially, I could call the 888 number anytime and get a caring person with good advice, but later, that devolved sometimes to an answering agency delivering messages or someone answering who didn't seem to know what was going on. There were changes in nurses and varying times of day to come over, sometimes with little to no advance notice. The last day my mother was alive, the nurse wasn't here by 1 p.m., even though she said she'd be here that day. Mom was transitioning and in her final days or hours. My call at 1 p.m. took several rings, and I was told I needed to speak to someone else, only to be transferred to voicemail. An hour later, I called back, and there seemed to be confusion. I was told no nurse was coming but one (some different would be here the next day) The next day never came as Mom took her last breath Tuesday at 7:09pm and when i called the 888 number It rang many times , eventually an after hours answering service picked up. It took about 40 minutes for me to hear back from Alameda Care hospice at which someone came over later to verify Moms death, This is now Friday night , 72 hours later, and there has been no word from Alameda Care hospice. I would expect something. I have shared, and continue to share this experience with anyone who would like to hear.

I didn't leave this hospice for the mere fact that Karen was so good, kind and not only made sure my mom was comfortable as well as that we were doing ok. Less than 8 hours the charge is $50/hour. Since my sister lives in an adjacent town to San Rafael they also charge 2 extra hours for travel there (an extra $100).
