The egg rolls here are so good and so many options! Reminds me of upstate ny. We came during college football and it does get pretty packed so seating can be limited. Right here on Davis Islands Tampa The Anchor Bar was a locals hangout. We had the fried mushrooms and they were great. But here's the kicker. I was told they were frozen but they didn't taste it. We also had the medium and hot wings. They were on a wed special of $.99 each and they weren't small either. The service was good but also a local bar with lots of regulars. The place was a cool dive bar setting but with lots of tv's for sports. I'll come back for more for sure. read more

Since my review keeps being deleted I'll keep reposting. Beware of Meghan. Apparently she is the girlfriend of the owner. As a tampa native and frequent patron of Anchor Tavern, I hesitated to write this review but felt I would be remiss not to share my experience. I will be brief in my encounter but suffice it to say this bartender needs some serious customer service re-education. I know from experience she has been at Anchor Tavern (Davis Islands) for a long time. There is absolutely NO excuse and zero tolerance to be bullied for no reason by a bartender or any person who is human. Meghan was rude, belligerent, argumentative and an absolute embarrassment to the service industry. I will never again visit the Anchor Tavern or encourage others to go there. I'm sure Anchor Tavern will survive this review but I hope Meghan will learn to be a better human someday. read more

I've been here a number of times...I generally get a pint or few... But on my most recent visit, a few weeks ago, I had the wings! I had heard the wings here are great and just wasn't eating but this time - I got 'em - BBQ Hoison flavor - and they were delish! My picture does NOT do them justice! I met up with a few folks I had met that day - regulars here...I also knew a couple previously so it made for an easy "know your name" kind of place... It's a very lively spot for watching games inside or even at the little outdoor area sectioned off at the entrance. Local island folks generally here. It gets a little nutty at times, but it's fun. At my urging, I ended up here with two coworkers, since besides having burgers Anchor Bar is close to our project site. Located on Davis Island's restaurant row on Davis Boulevard, The Anchor Bar is perfectly divey, with a smattering of bar neon, TV's showing sports and a mixed crowd of people living the good life and those of sneaking a taste on our lunch hour. Background 90s alt rock rounded up the scene. Full Disclosure: our crowd skipped on the alcohol since there were reports to write and continuing education seminars to attend. But the food and service was top notch! Although I went for "Medium Well", my burger patty was perfectly juicy, the greens tasted pretty fresh and the melted American cheese just enough. Food is about $16 a person Burgers are excellent. Nacho burger, mushroom Swiss, hangover are my favs. Flat bread pizza is very good. BLT has a lot of bacon. It's good. Tater tots with chili and cheese is a great choice. Drink prices are average outside of happy hour. Happy hour choices are good. 11-7 I believe. Bar gets busy and crowded weekends and some weeknights. Staff is very cordial. Which is most important besides good food. Minus one star because the bathroom situation is a nuisance. One bathroom and it got dirty pretty quick. read more

The wings come in many flavors, but the anchor bar itself is likely to offer its customers one of two. If you come on a Monday then you will find an excellent wing deal for 0.69 (classic) cent wings thicc and juicy and sopping in sauce. Furthermore, they pay great respect to hospitality and healthcare workers offering half price drinks acknowledging that during times such as this alcohol has been officially added to the antiquated food pyramid likely replacing the grain or at least the dairy sections in daily recommendations. On the flip side of the pillow, if you are your average passerby on a random night and most especially if a crowd has gathered then you will likely find yourself disappointed my friend. Why? Mainly because the inside of an anchor is not spacious and neither is this bar. If you were cast to the depths of Davey Jones' locker located in a back table lost to the world then I could see where people have drawn their frustrations. Fortunately for me, I experienced the former and was quite please to have plenty of room to share good food and great laugher with a stellar group of friends. A few years back i took my mother here and the service and food were great!! Amazing buffalo wings, garlic parmesan fries and ice cold beer! I returned today in hopes of having the same great service and food. To my surprise the one bartender was extremely rude and distracted by some younger men at the bar. No problems there but that's just where i noticed somthing was off. I sat at the bar for 30 minutes without even being spoken too or greeted! I soon called out to the female bartender and asked for a Corona extra and she gave me a disgusting look and with no words handed me a warm corona off the back counter. I asked her politely for a cold one or somthing else from the tap. She said there was no more coronas which was perfectly okay so i then continued to ask if i could order some delicious wings. She didn't even listen to my order and walked away. I waited another 30 minutes for these wings to come out. Not one time did she acknowledge my presence since i ordered the food and beer. A young male came into the restaurant/ bar delivering for the company Post-mates. He also was not greeted and waited at the counter for quite some time before being spoken too. The same waitress refused his business and said somthing very appalling and belittling to him about how she was too busy and she won't do post-mates ordered because she won't receive a tip. He was frustrated and left. I don't understand how she could turn down a legitimate business or a young person just trying to do their job! After i witnessed the blatant disregard for human decency this women was portraying and the fact that I STILL had not received my food or any other drinks. I left $5.00 on the counter and walked right out. it's sad to see a local business go down hill, i will not be returning here. I hope the owner can see this and confront his worker about her behavior in the work place. If I had the chance to get her name i would love to post it in this review. This is the best locals dive bar in this part of Tampa. It includes both inside and outside seating! I hesitate to categorize it as a dive bar since its spotlessly clean and the HDTV's are all in focus. But, it is dark and cool, they play a eclectic mix of music including Lynyrd Skynyrd and the patrons are a fun, friendly and occasionally inebriated mix so categorize it as you choose! Outside, the front porch is definitely dog friendly as there were several pooches in residence. I'm not sure about bringing a poodle though since the local dogs may eat 'em. Finally, the drinks are cheap and strong and the food is really very tasty. Our burgers and wings and loaded fries were delicious! We look forward to returning! read more

Not gonna lie, this place did NOT have that "come on in and check us out" kind of vibe. Sorta like if you're not from here, why are you here? However, once you're in you're pretty much in. Came in late around 12ish and ordered the Nacho Bacon Burger and the Pepperoni Flatbread Pizza. Let me tell you about this burger Massive, juicy, meaty, all the fixins'. It could use a little more nacho cheese but then again I'm a sucker for cheese. It's a little spicy, but comfortable enough to enjoy. Came with a side of fries with some type of creole-esk seasoning. The flatbread was great too. Crispy and straightforward. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely recommend if you're in the area and looking for a good eat. Walking in for the first time you feel the local vibe from the customers and the bartender's. With well over 15 drafts and numerous bottles I opted for a local IPA called Free Dive from Copper-tail Brewery in Tampa. Numerous TV's surrounding the bar. Asked for a menu and were told the wings were the top sellers. After perusing the menu I opted for the wings which were offered in 3 different increments. So I order 6 wings and was going to try something else. Wings arrived and I wasn't disappointed they were on par as some of the best wings I've had. I looked over the draft selection and noticed they had Labatt Blue ordered one of those and asked if this was Buffalo bar and the bartender explained that the owner was from Buffalo and they had another location on Davis Island. After finishing with the wings . I noticed that they had soft shell Tacos on the menu so I ordered the grilled chicken Tacos with a side of macaroni salad. Had another Blue and the tacos arrived.Was not disappointed the filled with chicken cheese and lettuce along with their homemade picco de gallo and the famous buffalo sauce if you want it hotter. The tacos were fantastic on the other hand the macaroni salad was a little bit of letdown had all the essentials but was lacking the spices to bring it to a 10. Came back after a few years because I remembered this was my to go place for wings while visiting from Orlando and this place have changed so much. The 2 female bartenders behind the bar at Super Bowl are the worst. The ignore you claiming it was busy so literally you have to beg them for attention and drinks. No smile or service oriented. I understand it was a busy night but just apologizing or a "I will be right with you" makes a difference. Management didn't care either. Maybe next time they can hire more bartenders if they cannot manage 30 people at the time. read more

I laugh when I read people super angry because the food here isn't amazing. It is so obviously a hole in the wall bar that is not a place one should expect food to blew you away. I've never eaten here, but every time I've stopped by for a drink, I've been very happy. Even if the place is crowded, I am able to get a drink quickly. Service was friendly, but not very attentive, but they could not rust the kitchen into getting food out in a timely fashion. I had the fish & chips. What a joke I can buy Mrs. ??? @ the supermarket everyday. The fries were enemic, limpless & totally unappetizing. Our server did not care, so I am not going to bother going into the other meal. I am in contact with my lawyer because of the way I was treated tonight by both of the bartenders . They took my list of order of food in front of me , used my card and i paid for 59 dollars of food ,I waited an hour for my food. i went up to ask the status of my food and they had no recollection of putting my order in even after i paid a 60 dollar cash tip. They said they never put my order in and they never ran my card . I checked my bank statement and they lied to my face. I said i didn't want to wait another HOUR for more food and to re run my card and one of the girls literally said quote "if you want to be a stupid bitch about something so small " ... etc etc I was astonished . She was the nastiest which ended up after 3 minutes of taking her nasty words and not helping me I finally called her a name back and said i wanted my money back which resulted in the other bartender telling me i need to leave. i asked for the manager and they refused to give me any detail. The owner will be hearing from my lawyer because I will not be talked too like this especially what is suppose to be one of the best bars . The rudest most dis respectful bartenders I have ever met.
