I am very picky about my BBQ and coleslaw and Mac and cheese. The slaw had the perfect balance between sweet and tangy. The back and cheese is made from scratch and perfectly seasoned and not soupy like some places.y only negative is that I was craving some good collard greens, but they had sold out. There's just enough seating for the busy lunch crowd, and it's just very basic tables and chairs. The three of us had barbecue sandwiches and Coleslaw; beef, chicken and sausage. Amazing all around! This place is super authentic and homey, which is what you want in a BBQ spot. The service was excellent, and they are very experienced in getting customers in and out. The line is quick moving, and the cashier is very helpful (but they will want you to be ready in line to order so prepare ahead by looking at the menu). The food was excellent; the ribs were falling off the bone and the sauce was a great mix of sweet and a little spicy. The potato salad was delicious, creamy and sweet. The green beans were a great mix to balance the other two, and their homemade cornbread that comes free with the meal was excellent. There is ample parking in the back of the building, and plenty of tables to eat inside. The building almost looks closed because the windows are blacked out but don't be fooled, they are always just! While I was in Tampa, there was a BBQ place that automatically spoke to me. All because it had Alabama in the name as I am from Sweet Home Alabama - Roll Tide! On my Facebook post, I put two ways to identify phenomenal BBQ. 1. If it's smok'n, it's open! I drove up and saw the smoker going beside the road. 2. If it has Alabama in it, well I'm bias but Alabama knows BBQ. I walk in with my Alabama Crimson Tide swag on and I'm greeted with a Roll Tide! I went with the 3 meat plate with ribs, beef, pork, Mac and cheese, cornbread, and potato salad. All meats were Roll-tide-tastic! The rib was the first one I tore into and it was easy to chew with a grilled, smoky taste. The beef was chopped and juicy. The pork was tender and well-prepared, but was a step behind the rib and beef. There is one sauce: a warm, thick ketchup base that is lightly sweet with mild heat. It went well with every meat and I couldn't get enough. The potato salad was a creamy, mustard base that I would consider some of the best I've ever had. The mac and cheese was very warm with globs of cheese throughout the pasta. Cornbread was sweet and homemade. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! The lady at the counter was very sweet and enthusiastic! I heard her say her grandfather started the restaurant. Service was phenomenal! The place was busy after I arrived with a line out the door and several customers were called by their name. Seems like the lady at the counter already knew what they wanted. Holy flavor! Being born and raised in the south, this is some of the best BBQ I've had the pleasure of enjoying. I tried the 2 meat, the chicken and the pork, plus a couple of extra sides. First of all, I was happy my plate was so heavy, the portions were very generous. The chicken was smoked perfectly and the pork was really good too. I like food with my sauce and there was plenty of sauce for me. The green beans were excellent. I knew the collard greens were going to be out of this world the second I sniffed them. Not too much vinegar, but plenty of marination and leafy collards, the greens were one of my favorite parts of the whole meal. It's a family owned business passed down each generation. The pulled pork had no flavor as well, which is also usually an easier protein that makes for a pretty good bite. The Ribs were good, as well as the sausage. I don't normally write reviews, but my recent experience with BJ's Alabama BBQ was so frustrating that I felt compelled to share. The service was absolutely awful. The woman answering the phone had one of the worst attitudes I've ever encountered. She was condescending, rude, and completely unprofessional. Honestly, someone with such a terrible demeanor should not be the first point of contact for any business, let alone one that relies on customer interaction. It's disappointing because great food is only part of what makes a restaurant worth supporting--service matters just as much. Unfortunately, this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and we will absolutely not be back. For what they charge for their food, treating customers like total garbage is absolutely ridiculous. We tried to order at 3 pm, they said they were closed until 4...fine. We call back at 4:03 and order two large platters for a family gathering and the lady tells us we can only get 1 mac and cheese for both of the platters because they were almost selling out...after 3 minutes? So we ask can we order 1 mac and cheese for each of the everything platter?...her response "Do you not understand what, you can only order 1 means?" Ummmm no thanks, plenty of other places just as good that treat customers with respect, give them your business. I hope the management takes a serious look at how their staff interacts with customers because this kind of behavior drives people away. read more
