Hard for me to give more than two stars. We upgraded to ocean views room and the room was so outdated. It had a fridge in the bathroom, not sure what to think of that. Very welcoming and accommodating front desk. Beds are incredibly comfortable and water is nice and hot. Complementary continental breakfast was surprisingly delicious and served fresh. Our waitress was super friendly and keen on meeting our needs. Only complaint is that the fridge may not be on depending if the room was used recently. Our last visit we weren't aware that the fridge wasn't on so we were incredibly disappointed our leftovers went to waste after that. Wishing they gave more people a heads up about that read more

This has been our spot for approximately 25 years. Now under new management. The family business feel has left. We made reservations in February stating that a handicap parking placard and ramp were needed at our room. They would also lower first floor beds for people in need due to a disability. When we arrived at 4pm not one thing was done. There was no maintenance crew on at 4pm. There was no manager at 4pm. At 6pm I found the manager. When she heard that I asked for her, she hid around a corner in the office. A staff member talked to her around that corner ass I watched. The the big kicker was when she told me she called the wrong room to apologize and new it was the wrong room. She would not give me a phone number to call the new owners. The grounds and location are beautiful but manager has no management skills. read more

Keep in mind that I'm writing this review from the point of view of an adult couple vacationing with no children. I've come to Ogunquit every year for about 10 years, so I obviously love the area and I've stayed at many places here mostly B & B's. Many people have recommended The Anchorage so here we are ! Beautiful grounds immaculately kept. Great views of the ocean from our room #172. The room itself was clean and comfortable. BUT HERES THE THING !! If your an adult couple traveling with no children this is NOT the place to stay ! It's a large place, I would say over a hundred rooms and despite having indoor and outdoor pools they are completely unusable as they are inundated with children. Children are everywhere!!! I thought I was in Disney Land for a second!! read more

I typically don't lost reviews but I was pretty dissatisfied with my interaction with this hotel. Booked a reservation online, card payment didn't go through, they called us and rebooked over the phone, seems like the date was changed to the day after our planned arrival by mistake. Unfortunately when we showed up they were booked solid, wouldn't refund or even partially refund, they offered us one of their old "condo rooms" from the 1600's, wasn't really pleased about it but what else should we do just pay the whole room charge and leave without a room. Particularly annoying was the fact they charged us more for this ancient room that obviously nobody wants to stay in. Felt they were pretty unaccommodating. The rooms are generally overpriced but so is everything in Ogunguit during peak times. Probably will never stay here again as there a hundred different hotels in the area. read more

We have been coming to anchorage for 16?years and very disappointed. They no longer have baked stuffed scallops and their best dish lobster, shrimp scampi is completely different with no taste. There was no effort in our meals. read more

If memory serves me right, this hotel did a "refresh" about 7-8 years ago. Well, after countless tour bus groups, lobster craving SUV drivers, and families from Quebec and Boston the old gal is starting to show its age. Our room had two worn out mattress, nicked furniture, distorted TV, and worm carpet. Part of the gracious green lawn has been sacrificed to a circus tent like "building" to house a very overpriced/limited menu restaurant (not to be confused with the long standing breakfast and bar area). This is a wonderful hotel in a wonderful location, but it needs another refresh to keep it a top contender. read more

Stayed here for 2 days because they only allow 2 day weekend stays, even if they have vacancy and you call on Friday. They'd rather have the room go unused than rent it for only one night. The Beechemere next door is much more flexible and will rent you a weekend room for one night if it's open on a Friday. Anchorage is very nice. The rooms are classy and well laid out ... They are pretty small but they make good use of the space. The upside is that every room has a balcony or sitting area outside. Downside is you can hear and see your neighbors clearly in most cases. MANY of the people who stay here are inconsiderate with the noise and wheel their coolers onto the walkway and drink and yell and laugh until late in the night. Let's just say that 30% or more of the folks staying here when we were in June were the type who would fit in perfectly at a NASCAR race Larry the Cable Guy concert. Just sayin ... 90s hair and teva sandals are like a uniform. The rooms are very confusing and kind of a pig in a poke when it comes to the view. There is Port Side and Starboard Side and each are separated into areas with ocean view, limited ocean view, partial ocean view, etc. Oddly enough no room is listed as 'no' ocean view even though a tiny sliver of water can be seen across a parking lot or road is still considered limited ocean view. Also, it depends what room you get. Some rooms in the same category have good ocean views and others have none. Keep in mind that almost ANY room on the bottom level is not worth renting because cars park right in front of the doorway. An 'ocean view room' on the bottom floor of Port or Starboard quickly becomes a 'headlight view' room when cars fill up the lot which is always unless you are staying in winter months. The reason I took one star off is because this time there wasn't ANY attention to detail. Last time, I mentioned in the reservation that it was an annual birthday tradition to stay here and there was a little basket of candy with a birthday card. This time ... Nothing. We asked for early check in and were not given one. We asked for a late check out and were not given one. (And check out time is very early compared to other hotels.) The white Aderondak Chairs were replaced with cheap looking plastic lawn chairs which were set up like the deck of a cruise ship. It was awkward being right next to other people and their loud conversations. At least they still let you being your own drinks on the lawn in a plastic cup. Overall, we enjoy this place and the price is very reasonable for what you get. Even the rooms across the street in the Towers annex building are nice. This is where we prefer to stay because the Port and Starboard buildings get loud at night with the people and cars everywhere. Annex is more quiet ... And you save money. Double bonus. Ogunquit is one of the nicest towns in New England. Very walkable, nice cove, cliffwalk and beach. Lots of food options (although things close early!! Restaurants close at 9 pm on Saturdays in June!!) The Anchorage is one of the nicer resorts in town. Cleaner and more modern than some of the others although with less ideal views. I've heard a lot of friends rave about the new Cliff House resort in Cape Neddick which is a short trolly ride away. They say it's a bit classier with a less boozy crowd but we enjoy being able to walk a few blocks to everything vs. drive or trolly. read more

Great place! My wife and I came for our 10th anniversary. We arrived on Wednesday and the reception was very nice. They said our room might not be ready, but double checked and it was. We got to the room and they had a nice note, a split of bubbly and 2 glasses. The room was very nice, spacious and looked almost new (in Lightship Building). Bathroom was clean and neat, A/C worked great (95 degrees that day). King sized bed was very comfortable and maid service was good. It is pretty much in walking distance of both Perkins Cove and downtown; many restaurants, bars and shops. Right on the water, obviously! Very relaxing and a great visit. read more

We haven't stayed at the Anchorage in quite a few years but went back for their one night new years eve package. We stayed on the 2nd floor and had a view of the ocean. The people that work there are really friendly and accommodating. We had to wait a few minutes to check in - we didn't get there till a really busy time. The lobby is spacious and has plenty of local information for people that aren't from the area like us. The new restaurant surfpoint 360 is a really nice clean place - great views during the day. Will definitely go back to sit on the deck upstairs for drinks and apps which everyone says are great. When we checked in we got a preview of the menu and could think about what we wanted. The menu was pretty extensive. I got the lobster Rangoon for an app which was delicious and my husband got the oysters which were also very good. The service was really great for a busy night - we were very happy with our waiter and got him the next morning for breakfast which was also included in our package. We had a couple of glasses of champagne which was included and btw we also had a small bottle in our room. For dinner my husband had the lamb served with couscous pilaf and sautéed rosemary and garlic spinich which was really nicely prepared and he ate the entire thing. I had the pan fried szechuan lobster tail with and wonderful veggies and I enjoyed it - some of the pieces outside of the tail (the claws for example) were a little overcooked. We had two great desserts - 3 layer choc cake and a yule log - creamy chocolate and pudding type thing. Really good. We also had a drink at the bar and got a really nice glass of wine - no skimpy glass of wine here! My husband had a great martini - when we go back I'm all in for the tini - its a really nice size and worth every cent. The hotel room itself was clearly updated recently and was very comfortable and very clean. Very comfortable bed - prefer different pillows though - I was almost sitting up for the night! It has a small fridge and a safe and hairdryer and shampoo and conditioner. Plenty of space. Nice view. We did use the pool and hot tub which was a plus. Would definitely go back and recommend highly. read more

We booked rooms last year and when we arrived, we wound up in the wrong rooms, across the street & far from the ocean. We were so upset & everyone told us, there was nothing they could do.... We were beyond upset......4000.00 for 6 nights and we felt cheated. Finally Eric helped us out, and put us in A house across the street.... it was outdated and not what we envisioned for our Beach front vacation, but at least the issue was addressed On Some level. We have stayed at the Anchorage many times over the last thirty years. Sadly our visit this week will be our last. The service was horrible. Had to ask multiple times for clean towels. Maid service is every three days. Since the new management group took over a lot of long time employees have left. We were charged a thirty dollar resort fee per day which they claim is standard. We have never paid that type of fee at any of the other properties in town when we couldn't book the Anchorage. The rates aren't commensurate with the level of service provided. The only service that was good was from the restaurant staff at the 360 Surf Point. Do not book this hotel, all they care about is taking your money. Just booked a Memorial Day weekend at another property in town, 'no standard resort fee"! This new management group has purchased several hotels in town. If the level of service mirrors the Anchorage Ogunquit will suffer for it. Shouldn't penalize the customers because you overpaid for the you new purchases. read more

My daughter and her boyfriend booked this hotel for a weekend a month ago. My daughter had to cancel because her boyfriend has osteosarcoma stage 4. Because of his condition she had to cancel. She asked for a refund due to the circumstances and was told to get a letter from his DR and she did and even that wasn't good enough. A voucher was offered but at this point she won't ever be able to use it with her boyfriend . This isn't a hotel i would ever recommend . Her boyfriend is dying and they couldn't see in the best interest to refund her money . They should be ashamed. I intend to let the media know what type of establishment this is . Really Nice place, location is great, property is beautiful and room was very clean. Its way to over packed. The amenities are nice but they are much to small for the amount of guests. My wife and I found it very difficult to enjoy this place and relax at all. It was super hard to get a chair at the pool. The cost was way to high for what it is. We decided to stay here for our weekend away to celebrate my birthday and have a baby moon and I was not disappointed. We got to Ogunquit early so we hung around town until check in time. We got there around 2:50pm when check in is at 4pm and our room was ready! We did see other people there who were trying to check in too but looked like they got there earlier and used the pool. It was a hot and humid day, I wish I had known we could do that as they have a beautiful outdoor pool and it was he perfect day to do it, we had brought our suits but never got a chance to use the pool. We had a room across Shore Road in "The Towers". Our room had two double beds and was located on the back side, which is fine but we were unable to use our balcony because there was a car parked 6 feet away from the balcony. The room was very clean and inviting, a little small, I would probably get a different room if I had a larger family but it worked for the two of us. The bed was unbelievably comfortable, the sleep I got was great. The bed is a perfect firmness and you get so many fluffy pillows! Also they use bath and body works products in the bathroom, which was great as we didn't bring our own as we only stayed one night. The resort is located in a perfect spot, within walking distance of everything! You can walk to the beach, it's right on marginal way so you can walk to Perkins Cove and you can walk downtown. It was great when we decided to go to the bakery downtown at 9pm, it was a quick safe walk. I'm glad I chose here, it was busy and there was some loud inconsiderate families around us but that's not the resort's fault. We will definitely be back when our little one comes into the world. read more

Beautiful view, standard room - clean and up to date, poor sound proofing and difficulty blocking out lights that shine directly outside of windows. Housekeeping was hit or miss, one day they took all towels and left none - this was remedied quickly by the front desk. Disappointed in the management decision to only accommodate bus trip passengers in the restaurant for breakfast before 8:30am. This was not mentioned at check it when I specifically asked about the morning hours (I was told 7am restaurant opens); especially irritating given the limited options in town. read more

I feel like I should write a number of different reviews. The young woman at the front desk is wonderful. The waitstaff in the restaurant are excellent. Let's start there. We had an excellent stay in May. Not so much late June. The man who took my reservation quoted me a price for a room with two double beds. Then he apologized and said the price is more because there are two kids coming. I agreed and asked about the possibility of a cot if my college student came. He said no issue and added a cot. When I arrived there was no cot on the reservation so I was charged a fee to add one. No problem. Went out to the pool to get wristbands, the super intense, long haired pool guy said no, I can only have four. I went back to the desk. The room only holds four. But the cot? So they made an exception and charged another fee per night. No problem. They assured me the pool attendant would give me five bands. Go back out, nope, pool guy says four. He calls on his walkie talkie then gives us five. This pool guy was rude the entire time, constantly watching me and my daughters. Actually he even approached my husband in the lot and told him he doesn't like his gas guzzling pick up truck. I did see him interrupt a few other guest's conversations ti correct them, which annoyed them but made me feel less singled out. On our last day there was a young lady attendant which was promising. That was until she walked up to us and said, "getting your money's worth?" I actually have a pool at home and don't need to be treated like a succubus for $400+ per night. Rethink customer service training please because your place is lovely and fun. Maybe have that wonderful front desk girl run the show. My suggestion. One star for her, one for the dining and another for location. read more

The Anchorage has always been a great little resort until the last couple of years. To start, if you cant get a room on the ocean side by the marginal way, then you are screwed. You pay a ridiculous amount of money for a building that constantly smells like a mixture of mold/mildew and cat pee. Ive never stayed in a Motel 6, I am assuming that the "towers" at the Anchorage most likely resemble it. The Surfpoint grille is good for a beer. Everything else they make is from premixed, bottled, sugary, cheap drink mixers. The food is overpriced and has the quality of a lame chain restaurant. Stay away from the bar area past 7 pm too, over the last couple of years we have noticed some blond girl who is constantly getting bombed and acts rude to other guests. The pool is nice, but get there early, because the aforementioned blond girl takes up 1/4 of the pool area thinking she owns the place. Its a shame Anchorage doesnt address it. The wireless internet connection is brutal too. In 2014, if you are going to charge those rates, at least provide an acceptable wifi signal. read more

Pros: Location on the Marginal Way, views of the water, being close to downtown Ogunquit and Perkins Cove, the bathrooms were spotless and renovated. Cons: THE BEDS ARE ROCK HARD. Quite possibly the MOST uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. My girlfriend and I could barely sleep for our 3 day stay. The staff wasn't exactly warm and fuzzy, either. Prices are fairly expensive. We went to the Anchorage by the Sea last spring and we were really looking forward to staying there after seeing the pictures and having seen the hotel on our hike down the Marginal Way on our previous visit to Ogunquit and Perkins Cove. It was disappointing to say the least. Visually, the hotel was beautiful and it WAS clean. but the staff was less than friendly and they shut down the breakfast area early. I can't stress enough how uncomfortable the bed was. I felt like I was sleeping on a rock. I woke up with my sides sore and I was exhausted. I couldn't IMAGINE paying the midsummer prices that they charge and having to sleep on that bed. Would have been better off sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag. Needless to say, we will NEVER stay here again, even if given a free stay! read more

The good: We have stayed her for the last two years. It has a great location. Rooms are clean and smell pleasant. Updated bathrooms and furnishings. Great place for kids. Now the bad: We changed our reservation and updated our email address several times. The day before our visit we received a call asking why we missed our first day. I told them I changed the reservation. They said they had no record of the change. They sent an email confirmation to the wrong email address. When we arrived at the Anchorage, the attendant checking us in said that four other guests this week who had this problem. They refuse to budge on this issue and did not even try to compensate us. Too bad the managment is so unwilling to help. Can't reccomend based on poor customer service. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. My brother and sister in law had their wedding there. I drove three and a half hours from CT to be there. I was refused entry. I was told that there was no wedding being held there. All the manager, Russell, could tell me was his staff is highly trained and he doesn't understand why this happened, his highly trained staff - repeatedly told me there was no wedding there. I missed my only brother's wedding because of the parking lot nazi who looked like Shrek. I'm thinking that Shrek was trained, but in being able to read, not so much. They can't make this right. They can't recreate a wedding. That moment is gone forever. And in my opinion, they owe my brother and his wife a full refund of what they paid. To do any less is morally bankrupt. ETA: the manager, Russell, put the blame on my brother and sister in law, because, according to him they should have known there was no parking available on site. Except it was his staff that told me that there was no wedding there. Parking was not the issue. The issue remains that his staff members told myself and my son that there was no wedding. I expected that "Russell" would have attempted to make this right. But instead of accepting responsibility for his staff LYING TO ME, he shifts the blame onto my brother and sister in law. I'm considering taking out ads in local papers telling people not to trust Russell and his "highly trained staff" with important events. You will miss out. read more

When I go to Maine, I stay here. This is a beautiful hotel with beautiful views of the Marginal Way. It is walking distance to the Village of Oguniquit and Perkins Cove. It has all of the amenities that one would want when staying in Maine. Pool, hot tub, snack bar/cafe. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The hotel is spotless. There are chairs throughout the property to lounge about and take in the coast. This is my escape, when ever I need a release from reality, find me here. read more

I've been coming here with my entire family and family friends every Columbus Day weekend. It's my absolute favorite place. The views, access to the marginal way, pools, bar, hot tubs are all first class. I've never noticed the uncomfortable beds (as posted in other reviews). The customer service is always wonderful. I cannot find any significant fault with my experience here, and it met and exceeded my expectations. Location is right on the shore of Ogunquit, on a quiet side street, a five minute walk from beautiful downtown. The room was spotless, chambermaids efficient and pleasant. Office staff was really exceptional: my arrival was delayed by a day and a half, they were very accommodating, held my reservation and didn't charge me. Indoor pool area beautiful and heated, but jacuzzzi wasn't (?). Better than average continental breakfast (some products from local bakery), but coffee was the usual scalding dishwater. read more

We were only planning to stay for an overnight and I will start this off by saying we had terrible weather, so much of the hotel that seemed like it would be great in nice weather, we did not experience. Overall for the price (and without being able to use the pool or walk the marginal way), the room itself was not worth it. It was clean and the room was nice and big, but the overwhelming smell of bleach each time we opened the door wasn't pleasant. Also, they did not have a hold on the temperature and the room was stuffy even when we put the a/c unit on full blast. The sheets were really rough, I didn't find the bed to be very comfortable and I'm pretty sure the hotel must just soak their sheets in bleach (which I guess they have to do), but it was so strong that my entire body broke into hives. We packed up at 11:00PM and just left... I could have sucked it up, but since we don't live that far, it just wasn't worth it. On a positive note, we did have a drink at the "bar" by the pool and they had a guy singing and playing music and he was great. That was by far the best part of this place (without having been able to use the other amenaties). read more

We stay here every year, it's very close to the smaller beaches off the marginal way that we like to go to. It is always clean, kid friendly, has pools and hot tubs for time not spent at the beach. Having the restaurant and bar right there is convenient, too. Food is okay for breakfast (convenient) and snacky stuff and kids food is okay. The restaurant for dinner is not great and a little expensive, so we avoid that. We usually stay for a week in the summer and try to make our reservations at least 6 months in advance. It's a little easier to stay on the ocean side for us, closest to the pools, restaurant and marginal way. read more

This was my first time here and I think it was fine overall. The room was comfortable, clean and the price reasonable (about $110/night for partial view room, weekday rate right before Memorial Day). The main complaint I have is the rude older man at the reception desk. When asked about coffee availability (because there aren't coffee makers in the room), he just pointed towards a room with coffee service. When I asked what he was pointing at, he got angry and said that it was our fault for not giving him opportunity to talk. Yikes, that dude needs to be in a different business with an attitude like that. All the other staff were friendly and helpful, particularly the cleaning people (who are probably the only people of color I saw in Maine). They really need to create a simple information sheet with the stuff people need so that the grouchy guy won't have to point so much and raise his blood pressure. Note that there are no laundry facilities nor are there elevators to the second floor which makes it a little hard to bring your suitcase upstairs (or for older people with limited mobility). There is a restaurant/bar, indoor and outdoor pools and 3 hot tubs. Plus the beach is right there. Even with a partial view room, we could see and hear the ocean. Would actually give it a 3.5. read more

We stayed in the 2-bedroom garden suite. The pluses are two beds with two private bathrooms and an AC in every room, private parking. The cons are that it's across the street from the water (but still close to the trolley), and the furniture is in desperate need of replacing. The beds, couches and chairs are so worn down that you are sitting on springs for the couches and chairs and we all tossed and turned all night in our beds. If it was a short stay it wouldn't be too bad but they made us stay 7 nights to reserve a suite (none of our neighbors had to, which was pretty annoying to hear because we only wanted to stay 4) but 7 nights in those beds was pretty painful. There are a lot of good accommodations around so I don't know that I'd stay here again, we didn't use any room service, pool or restaurant cause they were too far away. read more

Nice, clean and right on the ocean! But for the price ($300+) mid summer the beds were terrible! Floppy! Did not sleep well at all and I usually sleep like a rock. That is my only complaint ... For that price they should have much better mattress and box springs. Bar tender was nice! All of the common areas were clean and well kept. Just those damn beds! Off to the next place ....
