    Sicilian s& a regular slice
    Steve R.

Haven't been to this pizzeria in many many years. I was in the area and had to stop in. Glad I did. After 15 plus years of not having Ancona it's still as good as I remember. Had a regular slice and a Sicilian both excellent. I let George the owner know how great it still is and he split a grandma slice with me which is outstanding. He makes it differently than other pizzerias. He uses Fresh mozzarella , old school Italian pizza place. Reminds me of growing up in the 70's. Will be back for sure

    Sicilian Pizza with 1 Topping

Being new to an area I have found that local eats that most people swear by are never my thing. I normally think it's mass hypnosis and nostalgia that fuels the love but this was not it. I walked in on a Friday night and there was a colorful cast of characters behind the counter whipping up food and conversation. It's a very old school no frills spot, lots of pizza behind the counter, it's freshly made, the smells the sounds very old school feel. I was told to order a Sicilian Pizza with pepperoni well done. It's not my usual first order from an unfamiliar spot but I decided to order with garlic knots. I sat in a booth and hung out while the food was made soaking up the atmosphere of this old school pizzeria. Soon as my food was up it was boxed I paid and off I went to taste it. I looked at it and noticed the pepperoni curling cans crispy the cheese plentiful. The first bite immediately I tasted a buttery bottom to a cheese and safe with some spice coming from the pepperoni. I don't know if it was the hunger but three slices later I called it quits! The Garlic knots were freshly bathed in garlic before I received them. They were a nice add on with the pizza. It is some of the best pizza I have had since moving here and I'm excited to go back for more. 5/5 stars! If it matters it's cash only so so keep that in mind when ordering.

This review is proof of how much I loved this place. They even asked for my preferences before making it. The service was fast, and the quality of the pizza was just top-notch.

In my opinion, this is the best Neapolitan-style pizza I've tried in New York so far, and that's saying a lot because I've tried many! The Chef's Table in Lynbrook was a really impressive experience from start to finish…read more It's tucked away on Watkins Street just off Merrick Road, so it definitely has that true hidden gem feel. The restaurant is warm, comfortable and a little more upscale without feeling stuffy. White tablecloths, great service and very reasonable prices. The service deserves a mention on its own because everyone was incredibly attentive, friendly and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we had a great experience. I started with an Espresso Martini, which was honestly one of the best I've had, followed by a Lychee Martini that was also excellent. For food, the Calamari con Gamberi was a standout for me. I actually prefer calamari braised like this instead of breaded, and theirs was tender and full of flavor with shrimp, cherry peppers, white beans and tomato sauce. The Chef's Table Salad with shrimp was super fresh and light. The goat cheese, pear, prosciutto, pistachios and lemon thyme dressing all worked really well together without the dressing overpowering anything. The Lobster & Crab Ravioli was excellent and that saffron cream sauce was the star. I can absolutely see why this is one of their best sellers. I also tried the Pollo alla Franca with Bell & Evans organic chicken, prosciutto, spinach, artichokes, mozzarella and Port wine mushroom sauce. Rich, flavorful and very well executed. Even though I'm normally not a big dessert person, they make all of their desserts in-house, so I had to try a few. The flourless chocolate cake, warm apple tart and Belgian chocolate mousse were all excellent, especially that mousse -- very rich with a strong Belgian chocolate flavor. This was my first time here, but definitely not my last. Great Italian food, excellent cocktails, fantastic service and a true neighborhood hidden gem. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately, Selita's failed with the first impression. We walked past a very small bar and into the dining room, which had a musty smell. The green walls, red leather tufted seats, and mirrors on the walls gave the place a very dated, old-fashioned feel. Since it was our first time there, we decided to play it safe and just order a couple of appetizers. We had the grilled octopus and the eggplant Parmigiana. The eggplant Parmigiana was tasty, but we would not consider it an authentic Italian dish. The grilled octopus, on the other hand, was a completely different story. It was incredibly tough and chewy - honestly, it was like eating a garden hose. It really seemed as though it had been cooked ahead of time and then reheated. When we left, my wife looked at me and said, "We're never coming back here again." Unfortunately, I had to agree. That's really a shame because we genuinely wanted to like Selita's. It's close to home, and we were hoping to find a new local favorite. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I suppose that's the chance you take when trying a new restaurant. Sometimes you find a gem, and sometimes you don't. Unfortunately, Selita's was a "swing and a miss" for us.

Not my first time here but there was just so much going on around me that it was difficult to focus on the food portion of the visit. Street parking was fairly easy here and just a short walk back to the restaurant. In the middle of this vibrant restaurant with people speaking, laughing and really enjoying themselves, I get to give a speech. The funny part here was that when I got up to speak, someone having dinner gets up and says: "I know you." Appetizers came out family style. Calamari, salad, and pasta. All very good and very fresh. The serving staff did a great job supporting this large crowd. I also appreciate that what needed to be hot, was hot and what needed to be cool was just that. Every time I'm there, I go in with the thought "THIS time I'm going to control myself". And then I do it again...., It's the only place remaining that I can't control my eating! The food is delicious, no matter what I order: meat, fish, appetizers. I could swear the air tastes better... Full menu, it's all great. Prices? Ya know, I used to say: a little expensive. But it seems that their prices have stayed the same while others have gone up, so I no longer regard Livornos as "an expensive restaurant". The last bill (yesterday) undercut my estimate by about 25%! Anyway, getting more than my money's worth at any price. You get free stuff too. They give you that pizza bread along with the regular bread. Some group vegetables at main course time. And in addition to any desserts you order, a LARGE tray of delicious fruit, no additional charge. I wish I knew where they get that fruit from because I can't find fruit in my shopping that matches it in taste. Oh yeah, also free Italian cookies. The service? As polite and efficient as I've ever seen. The owners (I think they're the owners) come around at intervals to make sure everything is okay. I've never had anything to complain about. My fingers are getting tired so I'll stop here. You've been warned.
