If you like to build your own pizza by choosing from a selection of toppings and having it cooked, boxed and ready to eat in just a few minutes, then this place is for you. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a woman. She was super sweet. I took the time to look at the menu to see if there were any already put together pizza creations. While there were some, I opted to create my own. Starting with the sauce, I had a difficult time deciding between pesto or the regular marinara. I've been teaching my sons, "A closed mouth don't get fed", so I opened my mouth and asked if I could taste the pesto. The same woman who greeted me was eager to give me a taste. While I liked the flavor of the pesto, it wasn't what I really wanted in the moment so I went with the traditional marinara. Also, I chose to get fresh mozzarella instead of shredded. I loved this option but would like to have just a bit more next time. My pizza turned out to be a vegetarian style pizza with mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes. The surprise for me, which I don't recall seeing at other pizza spots like this, was the grilled onions. They were definitely one of my favorite toppings on my pizza and are now a "must have" topping when I return. I also liked the fact that you have a choice of toppings to add after the pizza is finished cooking. I added goat cheese and fresh parsley. Be careful not to get too much goat cheese on top because its robust flavor can take over all of the other flavors. Just a sprinkle will do (unless you love goat cheese that much... no judgment here :-) I sat in to eat my pizza. There was plenty of space because it was early on Sunday so not many people were there. I enjoyed vibing out to a great selection of hip hop music (edited, of course :-) while eating my pizza. Overall, the flavor of the pizza was pretty good. I went to the &Pizza location in Fed Hill in Baltimore and was initially attracted to the American Honey pizza, and I ordered this but quickly amended my order to include more toppings when I saw the plethora of options available. Sarah was one of the workers who provided me service at the counter, and she was super nice with recommendations for toppings and combinations (thanks, Sarah!). Bottom Line: I'm a junkie for Federal Hill's newest eatery featuring delicious, customized pizza for $10. I heart &pizza and often take the Metro into DC or drive to Bethesda for my own custom, fully loaded pizza. But now, I can drive north for this pizza pie goodness! So far, I've made it to four different &pizza locations and I find the culture and quality to be consistently good at all of them. If you are not familiar with the &pizza concept, it is as follows: The &pizza tribe members will pile your generously sized personal pizza with as many ingredients as you'd like before putting it through the conveyor belt oven and charging you a thrifty $10. If you aren't feeling creative you can order off of the menu but I always go for a customized pizza. The process goes something like this: - Select your crust (traditional, ancient grains, gluten free) - Specify your sauce (or sauces, get creative! I love adding a drizzle of pesto) - Choose your cheese (fresh mozz, cheese blend, even vegan cheese) - Pick your veggies - Add some proteins (including faux meat and a fresh cracked egg) - The pizza is quickly baked - Add some finishing touches (parmesan, fresh basil, garlic oil, etc.) - Enjoy your masterpiece. The pizzas are intended to be personal pizzas but it is a lot to eat for one person unless you are really hungry. Of course you can share with others in your party but that takes away from the customization concept a bit. Instead of sharing, I like to save my leftovers for later taking it home in the sturdy, oddly shaped pizza box creatively printed with the word "oneness." As you may be able to tell from my above description, &pizza is popular with vegans and vegetarians and those who are gluten sensitive or gluten intolerant. I'm none of those things so my usual pizza is a glutinous crust piled with cow's milk cheeses, tons of veggies and some pepperoni. What I'm trying to say is that there is something here for all appetites! The only downside to this location is that they don't have a diet cola option on their craft fountain soda machine. I tend to get water and then add a squirt of the lemonade for some flavor. Otherwise, the craft sodas are way too sweet for me. The &tribe members were still refining their pizza making technique but they've definitely nailed the friendly and kind spirit of &pizza. The interior of the restaurant was very clean. I went for a Sunday lunch but I know this place is crazy busy during the late night bar scene. I ordered the Cinnamon Sugar Pie from &Pizza and got basically what I would considered burnt pizza crust with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
