All in all I'm very pleased with Anderson. They deliver oil very quickly. That may sound stupid but I get busy and can be pretty absent minded. I use oil primarily for hot water and as a back up for heat. Because of that I decided against regular fill ups. So when I discovered that the tank was nearly dry I made a panicked call and they came right over and filled it up. I can tell you from personal experience that larger outfits will make you wait days. If you're lucky. Anderson doesn't make you wait in an emergency. We have been customers of Anderson Oil since 2007. This is one of the most honest and customer focused companies I have ever dealt with. Oil delivery is always on time, and their techs are awesome! Scott and Tony have tuned up our system over the past few seasons and these guys are super friendly, professional, and have a great work ethic! They really care about what they do! I moved into a new apartment that has an oil furnace, and while the tank was full of fuel, the furnace was off. It was late summer, so this was not so much a problem. The thermostat was operating fine. So October comes around and when I look to enable the heat, I discover the furnace's silent state. Since the furnace is not my property I was not going to attempt to enable it, but rather to contact a technician who could provide a professional service to my landlord. After calling Atlas Glen-mor, I was informed I needed to provide my SSN and have a credit check before I could obtain any service. I provided my information, but continued to seek service from other suppliers. I called James Devaney, and they said the same thing, but without the credit check. Since I was not "a customer" they would not send anyone out to fix my furnace and bill me for those services. I needed to sign up for automatic delivery before they would start my furnace. It seems that everyone wanted to leave me in the cold unless I signed a fuel delivery agreement. My tank was full, but that was irrelevant. I contacted a heating HVAC repair service, Aaron Plumbing of Arlington, who said I would probably need to go with one of these fuel delivery people to obtain service for the furnace. But they also referred me to Anderson. My call to Anderson went differently. They took my information and said they would call me back, but it was looking grim since they were busy with appointments through the next four weeks. The assistant said that the owner John would call me back. I received a call from John Anderson within the next half hour. I explained my situation and discussed delivery options. Mr. Anderson said that he could have someone come to my apartment the next morning to check out my furnace and get me going. There would be no credit check, and they merely needed a credit card on file to provide automatic delivery, in order to process the payment, and that I could choose scheduled delivery if I desired, but would need to provide a few days notice for a delivery. Since this is my first experience dealing with oil heating delivery services, I opted for the automatic delivery, in part because it wasn't pushed onto me as a requirement for being a decent company and solving the one problem I was seeking - to turn on my heat. The next day a nice guy named Charlie came and inspected my furnace. He got it running while explaining the components he was working with (I'm the curious type) and he was gone a half hour later. My furnace was burning and within about 24 hours of contacting Anderson, my problem was solved and I felt good about my new service provider. I will try to update this entry when I have received a few bills and have more experience, but so far, so good. read more

These guys are absolutely great. I've signed up for a two-year contract with them when I moved into my new house, and didn't have to worry about a thing. They keep my tank full without any reminders from my part. The best part is the furnace service. Their technician, Charles, came out to clean the furnace, and did a very thorough job - explaining how the burner works along the way. He told me to monitor the relief valve and call him if it continues to leak, and sure enough - it kept on dripping ever so slightly. He came again as soon as I called back, replaced the faulty valve, and then replaced another part that was all clogged with sediment. All of that for free. I'm a big fan. read more

I have been an Anderson Oil customer for one year and couldn't be more satisfied. In addition to delivering oil in a timely manner at a fair price, they have excelled with their customer service. The experience that cemented my feeling were when I was caught off-guard by some charges related to fixing some existing damage on my exhaust pipe. In retrospect, I probably should have expected the charges but when I told my story to the owner, he actually put himself in my shoes and acted accordingly. This type of ownership isn't common and it is a reason why I will continue to do business with and praise Anderson Oil to anyone looking for a recommendation. UPDATE 9/11/2012: About to start my third winter as an Anderson customer. I couldn't be happier with the service and the prices seem to be more than fair; I always compare to the prices listed on the Commonwealth's Department of Energy website and my price per gallon is always below average. read more

Would NOT recommend going anyone going with this company. Their service sucks as do not deliver on-time . I am finally canceling my service since this is the third time that they have been late with oil delivery and with the winter being especially cold, I cannot afford to have our pipes freezing. When you call them it is impossible to get a human on the phone. Their emergency helpline is supposed to respond and call back within the hour - no response. read more

We purchased our house in June of 2013 and had MANY oil offers sent to us in the mail. We felt that Anderson's was the most direct, no scam, and local it can get with just a letter explaining how things worked. However, we weren't ready to sign up becasue there waas oil already in the tank. The story starts with within the first month of owning the house the furnace stopped working and we had no hot water. It was the weekend and of course no one was open. I called Anderson because we were thinking of going with them anyways and an emergency number was provided on their answering service. I called that number and explained the issue and that we weren't customers but were looking. The person that was on call was extremely helpfull, he troubleshooted the problem with me on the phone to temporarily get it working and set up an appointment to come out and see me (if we couldnt get it working, he would have come out immediately). We also set up an appoitment with the owner to discuss continuing service, which we did and have been very happy since. We have been very happy with Anderson oil. Their prices are fair, they don't play games and every time I have had experience with the company and customer service, they have been helpful and friendly. read more

I noticed their flyer when we moved into our new home last fall. To the point, no BS, no gimmicks, and no fine print. I was initially trying to extend service from the previous owners company, but they had pathetic service. One call to Anderson Oil, and had an appointment in short time. I believe the owner stopped by, explained the plan in detail. He was very friendly, and not in the least pushy. I signed up and havent regretted. They got me through last season without any hiccups. And I had a good experience with my first cleanup/boiler maintenance this summer. Their guy Charlie was the real deal, knew what he was doing, had the patience to explain things to me and from what I saw, did a great job. He even fixed a couple of issue the previous company had taken shortcuts with, which resulted in quieter boiler operation. He was a pro! The lady on the phone has always been friendly, prompt and really helpful. Its rare to find an operation where all interactions have been this smooth and professional. [Update, March 2015] I am glad I signed up for their service contract after the initial two years. Best service company I have interacted so far. Last month they couldnt make it due to snow (I had not cleared the path), they left a note, and promptly came back that weekend since the tank was low. The purchase of a new home brings many oil company fliers. I decided to go with them since they were local. John (owner) came out to our home and we signed the 2-yr service contract since we saw the reviews. We started off with 2.99/gal (May 2013) and our last fill was Feb 2014 at 3.79/gal. We didn't know/forgot about their fixed plan rate and did paid as you go. We came back midnight end of Jan (brrr it was such a bad/cold winter) from our vacation in FL, the motor on the furnace/boiler stopped working (who knows for how many days), it was 32F in the house. I called their number, apparently they had another number to call after hours but I didn't hear it on the answering machine. I called the next morning during office hours and they came to replaced the motor which was was covered under their service plan. Unfortunately we had to wait for time to pass so that the pipe on the other side of the house would heat, 6 hours later it melted (pipe burst), anyway Charlie did a good job. The only reason I am giving them 4 and not a 5 stars. As mentioned before, they came Feb 2014 and came to our house by accident and we just had a 200 gal fill 6 days earlier! The driver "by accident" mixed up with our neighbour's house (hello! look at the house #). Not happy since we just wrote them a check for 200+ gallons and having to write another for 45 gallons. I called and said I won't be paying for another 6 weeks, the frequency (including it being cold winter) is killing us an arm & leg all this oil $$$! read more

Anderson Oil supplied oil and took care of the maintenance of my system for 8 years before I moved. Every fall I would renew the contract and get the system cleaned and checked for another year. One time the blower motor broke on the forced hot air when it was 15 degrees out. Charlie was out within an hour at 3:30am to replace the motor and belt. I was lucky he had the motor but smart to have a contract with a good company with good employees. I could have found discounted oil for less but the piece of mind was worth it and they never let it run dry. read more

Looking for a new oil company after Anderson overfilled our tank and spilled oil all over the floor in our crawlspace. John gave us ten cents off per gallon and said he would come see why this would have happened. He hasn't come by in two days, we called him today and he said he was too busy! hasn't even offered to help clean it up, and come on, seriously-- ten cents off per gallon? That comes to nine dollars off, or the cost of three gallons of oil-- more than that is on the floor. So we are PAYING for oil that is sitting on the floor of our basement! We're just supposed to sit by and wait for him to come by while our house smells disgusting? All of our windows have been open for two days in twelve degree weather because we can't breathe. I am appalled. Anderson will not be getting the cash from our next fill up (which will be a lot thanks to the fact that our windows have been open for two days). I don't know who is writing all of these positive reviews--probably fake. DONT give them your money, because they will be "too busy" for you when they mess up! read more

They said they would offer a free checkup for new residents if we do automatic delivery with them. We made a reservation over the phone after discussing all details. Everything went on pretty well until the day really came... I took a couple of hours off from my work, waited at home for them to come. Finally, a guy showed up, telling me that they wouldn't do this business because my home is on a slope! Then... he left! It's only a gentle slope (less than 15degree) ... They have our consumption down pat and always deliver before we need to call. Over the last 10 years we've had a few repair need surprises for our furnace and Anderson has always come through. Honestly speaking, their customer service is terrible. To make matters worse, the accounting department is very incompetant and has consistently made errors on billing and checks sent were suprisingly lost allowing them to charge us finance charges in the process. When reported, management did not seem to care or even be concerned --they took the matter lightly speaking to their inexperiencedness in this niche and lack of professionalism.
