I fell in love with this place pulling up the driveway... and I am a picky customer What a SUPERB location ! We were driving on fumes and the gas station is a stone throw away. Literally across the street is a Schafenberger Cellers ! No need for designated driver just watch out when crossing Minutes away walk to Lemon's market where you can get delicious local wine, amazing, fresh sandwiches and anything necessary Few miles away is Roederer Estate with its delicious bubbly. Now the Inn...I am writing still from the room. Room # 1 it's a great suite with a queen bed and separate room with a tween bed, full kitchen ( everything but stove ), comfy bed, nice sitting area outside ( personal little courtyard ). Everything is just... perfect. Separate mention of Bob, the owner. What a nice, easy going guy ! The minute we talked it felt like we know each other's for years Memorial Day weekend we got so lucky to book this room last minute and guess what... WE'LL BE BACK Anderson Valley Inn will be our first and only choice to stay in Philo Did I mention it's very reasonably priced IAnderson Valley Inn

This is a small but very clean place. Very affordable and easy to work with be property management.

Let's start with the positives. This place is as clean as can be, impressively so. Little extra details have been carefully thought out--a black make-up wash cloth, ear plugs, disposable make up wipes, and board games, just to name a few. Also, they take dogs. Normally they have a two night minimum, but my husband was able to negotiate a one night stay as they appeared to have absolutely no other customers that weekend. Compared to some of the other boutique hotels/inns in the immediate area, this is a more economically-minded option. Finally, our unit had a surprisingly large kitchen. The not quite so positives...The room decor was a weird hodge-podge of items. Worn out craftsman table mixed with modern green chairs and a tropical beach painting over the bed. Tropical painting in a redwood cabin...strange. Quilts on two beds while newish, fresh and crisp did not coordinate with each other at all. The bare (cork?) flooring gave the feeling of a cheap motel. A large area rug would benefit the room we stayed in greatly. I'm guessing their willingness to accept pets is a business decision, not a dog lover decision. When we asked where we could walk our dog, the recommendation was along the main highway, of course. They didn't recommend the neighborhood road right in front of the inn. They also advised that we not wander around on land willy nilly as people aren't receptive, especially the weed growers. Turns out the State Park just a short distance away is pretty accommodating if you follow certain parameters. On the day we inquired, the ranger told us we could even let the dog off leash to romp in the river at one specific spot. We could also walk the dog on leash on all asphalted roads and this one fire road within the State Park. How could they not know this about their own small town? We initially did walk a short distance down the neighborhood street just outside the inn and after encountering a surly, ill-kempt, most likely drugged out dude walking home who decided to pee in the bushes right in front of us, we turned right back around. As others have mentioned, we definitely felt observed whenever we were outside the room. It gave me the feeling of being an unwelcome intruder. In all honesty, we wanted to stay at the hotel at the place where we enjoyed our dinner--restaurant Table 128. A definite two night minimum at that option put us at Anderson Inn instead. We were not unhappy. It's a good option if you don't want to spend the money on the higher end boutique hotel options. Plus, any place that takes pets, dog lovers or not, is aces in my book.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for the holiday weekend in one of the standard rooms. It was small, but very cute and perfect for just a few days. The room was clean, and the bed was super comfortable. I usually have a hard time sleeping well in hotels, but I had no trouble sleeping here. There's no A/C, but we did have a ceiling fan - that seemed to work just fine for us. The owners were always available if we had any questions or needed recommendations for places to go. It was a great experience! I'd definitely stay here again!

And, on a perfect spring evening on the deck with the sky fading to black over the distant hills and the temperature slowly cooling, it was magical. Started with olives, almonds and a carafe of local rose, which was delicious. This was followed by some outstanding bread with herb butter and caperberries, and local, Mendocino cured king salmon, which was a celiac special! It was delicious and herbaceous with avocado, caperberries and dill. This was followed by the salad greens with asparagus and bresaola. The bresaola was a great compliment to the greens and the asparagus was particularly unique - fresh, crisp, fresh and while not quite asparagus-y they were so good, a bit sweet. They were from Zuckerman Farms in the Sacramento valley. Next was a bowl of noodles and asparagus, ramps, very fresh fava beans (not firm or mushy!) and parsley, or the same over polenta instead of Italian pasta noodles for the gluten-free. It was simple, but fresh and rich and luxurious. Three for three at this point. The end point was duck confit with oranges and kumquats over wild rice with some greens. The duck was perfectly cooked, although a tad too salty. Nonetheless, we cleaned the plates. And, who would have paired rosemary with oranges (?) but it worked. The meal was finished with vanilla ice cream over meringue, topped with lemon curd, and fresh strawberries and rhubarb, both of which were not only fresh but redolent of the flavors that they appear to have otherwise lost. The wine list is small but we greatly enjoyed both the pinot rose from Scribe and the pinot noir from Drew. I remain very frustrated by all of their fees and add on costs. Yet, I don't feel cheated or that it was all unreasonable in the end.

In a world of…read morehyper-commercialism and advertising, keeping things simple is really hard to do, and the Boonville Hotel & Restaurant flawlessly pulls it off. Every detail, from the freshly cut flowers inside the room to the garden and living room in the main house, is purposeful and elegant. I also should mention the food, which is excellent! The culture of the Anderson Valley gracefully comes through with every bite. In fact, the food alone is worth the trip. I have been to many Michelin-rated restaurants. While the meal might not be accompanied by the chef's life story, everything about the food, the dining atmosphere, and the local ingredients is every bit Michelin quality. A few other tidbits: Kid friendly, plenty of space to play in the backyard, but no games, no pool. The sister restaurant, Offspring at the Farrer Building, across the street has the same food, but also pizza and a few other kid friendly options. Two onsite EV charging stations. They both work great; the front desk needs to remotely turn them on. Looking forward to my next stay!

We live FT in The Sea Ranch so Harbor House is an easy drive and it's like having our own neighborhood Michelin star resort and dining in the hood. Lunch was as good as I remember it. We started with a raw smoked trout stater and it was gently smoked which kept the trout firm and with only a hint of the curing process. Their freshly made bread followed and that kelp churned butter is to die for. The next two courses were a poached black cod in a home made miso sauce that was a lesson in how to ferment properly ! Delicious. The pork loin followed and I must admit it was a little tough - perhaps not rested enough post cooking or just a little over. The dish had teenie tiny wasabi leaves among all the veggies and greens on the plate and they really imparted a lovely natural zinginess...desert was some sort of a custard with a thin meringue and some other wonderfulness that made the whole thing refreshing but not too sweet and a lovely end to the meal. It was our 34th anniversary and we had made it a point to mention it when we made the reservation but they didn't even stick a candle in the dessert they gave us as a part of the meal...which seemed a missed opportunity IMHO. Just saying, we eat out quite a bit and most of the time not to celebrate anything special so it's nice when an establishment makes mention and notice of it in some way... We had the wine pairings ($100/each) along with the five course lunch ($150/each) and they do a nice job with the pairings, mainly featuring nice Italian varietals and of course some local favorites from the area - like Baxter (Pinot) and a dessert style wine that was very nice and not something I would have normally thought to order on my own. The grounds are as beautiful as always and now that spring has sprung and the flowers on their grounds are in full bloom and the beach area is starting to take on that summer sheen - it was a stellar afternoon once again. We will be keeping this place on regular rotation for sure and we look forward to our next meal later this summer when the tomatoes are ripe and the fruits and vegetables are in all their glory ! Highly recommend.

The walk down to the beach via steep stairs is worth it, someone in our group even had expensive shoes get ruined on the way down, but she still said the beach experience made it worthwhile. That said, our visit felt a bit off. It was an off day for them...the fridge wasn't working, the staff seemed flustered, and there were service issues like the wrong wine being served. The food had moments of quality, but the experience overall didn't feel as polished as expected for a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Incredible location and setting, but the execution didn't match the reputation on this visit.

Our cottage was incredibly cozy, and our days were filled with simple joys: harvesting vegetables from the garden, feeding the bunnies, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, helping shepherd the goats, and playing with the cats. There's also a beautiful beach less than a 5-minute drive away, making it the perfect balance of farm and coast. At Mar Vista, fresh eggs are delivered to your cottage every day. On our last day, we noticed every single egg in our egg basket was blue! We realized Cab or Deanna had probably hand-picked the blue eggs for us after learning that our toddler was in a phase where she loved everything blue. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much to us. And who knew eggs came in so many beautiful colors? That was one of many incredible things we learned/experienced at Mar Vista. Beautiful views and so relaxing to just sit out in nature. Don't miss the stars at night and do not miss getting the fried chicken basket! We definitely will return, I think it needs to at least be a yearly event!
