Well, had a night and day experience here with two different workers that would lead me to rate one five stars and one zero stars. There's a solid selection of material you'll need for most general home upkeep. Prices are really fair compared to Home Depot and Menards. I called ahead and spoke with the friendly worker, who even saved what I needed at the front for my first stop there because it was such a rush. It's an easy to access place and dogs are welcome! I left really pleased with this place and had it on my mind for a second project. The second time I visited... oof. When I asked about an issue and showed photos about potential materials to buy, I was told to have someone come out and pay for it because I didn't "look or sound excited about my project. He was very crass and told me I wouldn't understand what he was "so easily" speaking to me. So there's that. If I know what I'm needing and have no doubts, I'll definitely come back here. If I have doubts, I'll be hesitant to ask based on who's working that day. read more

This is a great local hardware store! Well stocked for its size, I found all of the hardware I needed to finish some projects. I was greeted warmly and asked if I needed help finding anything, and I was in and out with everything in minutes. The few pennies that you MIGHT save at the big boxes is not worth passing this place by. read more

I'm glad we still have a small hardware store in the area. This is in the same location as the Ace Hardware that was here once upon a time, so it's well-suited to the task. Much like my friend Denyce, I don't relish going to the hardware store. Particularly the big box ones because the people there seem to know nothing about what the products are or do, and then I get super annoyed. I stopped into Andersonville Hardware because the florescent tubes in my kitchen went out and the handyman was going to give me light (finally; I spent two weeks or more trying to cook dinner in near darkness since I only had one small light) but come to find out that the bulbs I had purchased were not the correct connection or something. Darnit!! So on my way to Crafty Beaver I passed by here (forgot it was here) and stopped to pick up the bulbs. They didn't actually have them here at Andersonville Hardware, but the man working told me precisely what type I needed so I could head down the street to get them. I am so thankful for his great customer service, because I'm not kidding when I say that cooking in a dim to dark kitchen was getting old. I will certainly patronize Andersonville Hardware because if I can trust them to help me even when I can't purchase something from them, I expect I can trust them anytime. read more

Every person who works in this shop is knowledgeable and can point you in the right direction even if they don't have something (which has yet to happen for me). Perhaps the household projects I take on don't require anything special but I've found everything I've tried to find here. Ado, the person helping me, was warm and wonderful and effective. 4. They are holding the item until another friend can come pick it up and deliver it to our sick beloved friend. Not a fan of hardware stores and try to avoid them like the plague as there is no food or alcohol in them. But a situation arose that required me to actually venture into one. I was in dire need to have cabinet key made for one of my cabinets at work. I have been trying to get one made for 6 months with no luck, including the Maintenance Department at work, Lowe's, Menard, Ace Hardware, and several locksmiths/key makers. Decided to stop in here because it was on the way home and there was a parking spot that did not require me to pay. Also wanted to go into La Primera and get bubbles. Well Sweet Black Baby Jesus must have been looking out for me on this day as I was able to get four keys made and they all worked. It was touch and go, and the gentleman assisting me stated that the key I had did not look like a typical one he would normally see. But he took the time to find one that could be a match and made the keys for me. He even stated that if they did not work when I got to the office the next day, to bring them back and he would refund me my money. Fortunately all of the keys worked and the day was saved. And I found some stuff to clean my disposal with too, so it was a good day. Still not a fan of hardware stores, but this will be my go to one if I have to make that journey again. read more

11 years later and going strong. I needed a replacement part for an IKEA rolling cart -- because they always get lost, dontcha know -- and they had just what I needed. Literally the kindest of staff that I have experienced from a small business or any business in general ever. The young man shoveling snow and at the register offered me to stand inside away from the snow and I saw you guys had hand warmers and had to purchase a few. Small place with a matching small selection. SELECTION: I came for a ratchet wrench to fit an extension I had, but they simply didn't have the tool. The employee did, however, make a suggestion as to where I would be able to find one, which was helpful. They seemed to have a better selection of paint, just not tools. read more

This hardware store is one of the 2 on Andersonville's Clark Street. It has everything from simple hooks for the wall, to a solid selection of power surge bars, to a wall of nails and , to all sorts of chains for bikes and other purposes. From outside it's hard to tell it has quite a few items available. Service was good and the gal there knew where everything is. Just moved into the neighborhood and this place is just a few blocks away. I've made 3 trips in the past 3 days to grab odds and ends for the apartment and they've had everything I've needed. He even went down to the basement and dredged up an old scrap piece of 2x4 to help me get my A/C installed when they were out of stock of everything else. The store is small with a limited selection, (well, limited compared to the internet and Home Depot), but I've gone in there with 2 minor emergencies and they've delivered both times. You can also get your propane tank exchanged there, they sharpen knives and make keys as well. read more

I don't really write many yelp reviews, but the service here is so outstanding that I just had to. I was having trouble opening the back faceplate on my New 3DS XL (read: modern day Nintendo gameboy). I couldn't get one of the screws to twist at all, and was worried that I might have a stripped screw. I brought the system in, and asked the guy working there his opinion on whether I just needed a different sized screwdriver, or if I had stripped the screw. The man used a few screwdrivers (even opening a fresh pack) to loosen the screw. When I went to pay for the screwdriver pack he had opened, he told me not to worry about it, that I didn't need to buy it. (Of course, I did buy it anyway.) It just really went above and beyond in terms of service for him to spend his time helping me, open a new pack of screwdrivers, and not even expect anything in return. Thumbs up for sure and I will be happy to patron this place in the future for any hardware needs. read more
