Given that I have fine hair, other salons have treated my hair like it's thick, and given me layers that grow out terribly and make my hair look worse than ever before. Noelle is a master at what she does. The location on Exchange Street is unbeatable. Recently, Noelle allowed me to undergo an awesome transformation from bright "Playboy" blonde to a deep brown that I absolutely love. It was a big change that I was nervous about, but Noelle and I talked a lot beforehand to figure out exactly what I was going for, and how best to take care of my hair afterwards. My hair looks great and is super manageable. I ended up going back a month later for a touch up and trim before leaving town. Please stay away from this woman. I went to Noelle 3 days ago asking for a warm medium brown. I let her know that I box dyed my hair once but that it had faded, which is why I wanted to see a professional to do it. When I got there she sat me down and started showing me colors to choose from, the two colors that she recommended seemed pretty dark, but when I asked if they'd come out that way she said no. So I trusted her. Even when she was mixing the dye I asked again if it would come out black and she said no. After about 15-20 minutes of her slapping dye onto my head she put me under a heater. My head immediately started to burn very badly. I told her and she said "stinging is normal but burning isn't, what does it feel like?" I said it felt like burning and asked if she could turn it down, so she did and then went back to her phone. My head continued to burn, but I tried to ignore it considering she didn't seem concerned. Afterwards she rinsed my hair, gave me an extremely quick trim, and lastly she started to dry my hair. That's when I began to panic... it was SO dark. Once it was fully dry I could tell that my hair was black and I wanted to throw up. I specifically asked her if it would come out dark (multiple times), I specifically told her how much I hate black hair on me (multiple times), and now here I am. I didn't know what to do, I was so filled with anxiety and it was sinking in that this was how I looked now. And it was permanent. She took me over to pay and I was still in shock holding back tears, she showed me my total and my heart dropped even more. $305 dollars. At this point I was freaking out inside. How on earth could it cost this much for an all over color and trim? I had no idea what to do, I was too in shock and panicked to say anything so I paid her (including a 10% tip which brought it to $335) and walked out the door. I immediately called my friend and started crying. I told her what happened and she said I had to call Noelle and ask for a refund or request that she tries to fix my hair. So I did, and I made sure to be incredibly kind about it. I told her I wasn't angry but that my hair was black, which she promised me wouldn't happen. She got extremely defensive and had a very rude/annoyed tone. She told me that my hair was not black and to look at it in the natural light. I tried to explain that it was, and that even in the sun it was still incredibly dark. She wouldn't listen and just continued to gaslight me. I asked her if she could do some Caramel highlights to warm it up and she said that wasn't possible. She told me the only thing she could do for me was color strip it which would turn my hair orange. Then she said to scrub my hair with dawn soap and baking soda.... You're kidding me, right? After charging me half my months rent she's telling me to destroy my hair with dawn dish soap and baking soda to try and fix what SHE did? After she completely disregarded what I was telling her I finally gave up. Afterwards I decided I wanted a partial refund. Which considering Noelle wasn't offering to help me in any way that was the least she could do. The most she was willing to refund me was $150. So at the end of the day I still paid $185 for black hair that I didn't want. But I was okay with that, I was absolutely exhausted and had to leave it be. It wasn't until the next day that I realized my hair was breaking off... remember when my head was burning under the heater and she did nothing? Well turns out she fried my hair. I decided to call a few salons and get their opinions on the whole situation. I sent them pictures of my hair, told them what she did and how much she charged. All 3 salons agreed that the color was closer to black than it was to brown. They also said that the amount of money she charged me for all over color and a trim was criminal. Then they ALL offered to give me Caramel highlights... but when I asked Noelle to do that she said it couldn't be done. Absolutely hilarious. After learning all of this I felt even more ripped off, so I texted Noelle again and requested another $50 refunded. Because now not only do I have black hair that's breaking off, but I also have to go spend more money to fix what this woman did. But did Noelle respond? No, no she did not. Which is the only reason I'm taking the time to write this. I pray that this never happens to someone again, because it's one of the worst things to experience. Noelle is amazing! Salon is spotless, bright, and gorgeous. As a first time customer, I went for a spray tan. Prior to my appointment, I called explaining I have eczema, and very dry skin. Noelle suggested how to prep for my appointment. She also suggested that I get the moisturizing pre-spray prior to my tan. I was very concerned about turning "orange" due to being a pale red head. Noelle assured me I would not be. The whole appointment was about 20 minutes. Noelle has a wonderful personality, and made me feel very comfortable. After more than 3 months of neglecting my hair due to Covid, I decided I could no longer wait for Massachusetts to open up. I did my research and decided I would contact Andiamo. After a few texts and photo exchanges, my appointment was booked for the following week. My hair really needed some serious TLC and Noelle delivered. Noelle is a professional, knows her stuff and gave me a beautiful new look. Single process with Baby lights, glaze and a cut. I had a great experience here! I had never had any waxing done, and of course was a little nervous, but Noelle totally put my mind at ease. She explained the process, the products used, why certain types are more effective, and then some (I ask a lot of questions). The waxing itself was far less painful than I thought it would be. I believe that's a hallmark of Nufree waxing, but I also could tell Noelle knew what she was doing. And she gladly chatted away with me about anything and everything during the process making me feel extremely at ease, despite yunno... Lettin' it all hang out. I didn't originally go in with additional purchases in mind, but was browsing the eyebrow products and she offered to do a demo, and I loved it! She applied it about 10x faster than I could, and it looked amazing. Plus, one little pot of eyeshadow gel lasted me over a year, and when I came back later, I was able to buy it again. I've been going to Noelle since before she opened her shop. I was so satisfied with her as a stylist AND a person that when she quit the place she was working for in 2008, I followed her like a lovesick puppy dog. Not only does she do quality work, but she has an eye for styles that I never thought of before. Usually when I go see her, I tell her, "Do what you will, I trust you." and she's never let me down. I'm pretty sure that Lindsay, Marie and the Julie chick in the filtered comments are full of poo. Julie, I have a specific question for you: where did Noelle ever "threaten" someone who left a bad review? Huh? If you are referring to her telling someone who is clearly lying (a competitor trying to bring down ratings for the business most likely) that she can sue them for libel, so what? Wouldn't you do the same? Seems to me you're too sensitive and should probably grow up. I think there's a place in South Portland called Snip-Its you could visit for your next haircut. You obviously need to be babied, and they specialize in children's cuts. I had a very bad experience coming here. I made an appointment to have my highlights done here a few weeks ago. Making an appointment was easy (probably the ONLY pro about this salon). Noelle was nice over the phone/emailing but in person she was very rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I don't know if she was having a personal issue, but I wanted to leave as soon as I got there. She kept saying how unhealthy my hair looked, which was unnecessary and rude. My highlights are chunky and not blended well at all. I told her this during my appointment, but she kept doing what she wanted and assured me it was going to look "great." I can agree with the poster below-I have chunky highlights and look like I came out of a 90's movie. After spending almost $200, I am left with hair that I hate and now I need to go have it done elsewhere, since Noelle doesn't offer "any refunds" and is impossible to deal with. She should absolutely not be in this profession, she has terrible customer service skills, is not friendly, and judging by her own hair, she is not a color expert by any means. read more

I have never written a bad review, but because of the service I received from the owner, I need to warn people. I went in for a permanent eyeliner procedure. A friend of mine had it done at another place I thought the results were fabulous. But as soon as my procedure was done my eyes were burning. By evening they were swollen and irritated. I ended up in Urgent Care a few days later with monstrous looking eyes. When I explained this to the owner, she told me this may happen and to keep her posted. After a few weeks my eyes had cleared up but there was no sign of any permanent eyeliner. She said I needed to wait 4 weeks to see the full results. After 4 weeks there was still no sign of any eyeliner on my eye. I called to let her know and she texted me back saying that I would need to come in for a touch up for $150. I was a little concerned to return to the salon because of her arrogant answers, her accusing me of negligence, and her little concern for customer satisfaction. She would not take my phone calls, but hid behind long texts and emails, which made me think she really did not want to talk to me about the poor results; only her prepared answers about the many forms I had signed and whether I read them. For the time, pain and discomfort for weeks after, (as well as the money for the procedure and the doctor bill)-It may have been worth it if the end result was good. There was not even a trace of the permanent eyeliner on my lids. I had zero results! For these reasons I did not want to go back into her salon, and would have simply been happy with a refund. She felt I was blackmailing her, but I believe in customer satisfaction and I am sure most people in my shoes would agree with me. read more

I have been a loyal client for over seven years and have only had outstanding service and results from Noelle. I was a client before Noelle opened her own salon and followed her with each move. Every 7-9 weeks I am there for a highlight and cut and I always leave thinking my hair looks awesome! Since moving to Portland, I've had two brazilians and one bikini wax with Noelle and one haircut/style. I've had waxes for the past 10 years, and Noelle is far and away the most efficient and least painful esthetician I've ever visited. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I can schedule a full brazilian and be in and out within 20 minutes. That is crazy good time! Also, I agree with the previous poster that the wax she uses is significantly better than other wax types. I think Noelle's waxing rates are completely in-line with what I've paid in the past, and given her skill and speediness, I think my money is well-spent. I won't be looking for another waxer. I'll likely continue to use her for my haircutting needs, too. I'll admit, I don't have as strict a haircutting regimen as my waxing regimen - my hair is long, regular-weight, and has lots of body... basically, it's low-maintenance. That said, before moving to Portland I'd frequented an Aveda salon for two years and noticed that my hair was starting to suffer from noticeable breakage mid-shaft. Noelle noted this, as well, and recommended I switch to the Pureology brand. After one Pureology wash and conditioning treatment with from Noelle, I could actually feel the difference running my fingers through my wet hair: fewer tangles and the individual hairs felt coated without feeling heavy. I had such a great experience today with Noelle at Andiamo salon. Yesterday I called to make an appointment for a color, style and extensions consultation and she got me an appointment early the next morning. She took the time to listen to what other services I have had done on my hair within the past year (henna, highlights, and color conditioner) which allowed me to explain what I wanted to have as an end result. Because henna is notoriously impossible to remove with anything except scissors, she explained that we could darken up the hair and add cooler tones to the dye but there might still be some red under-tones. She was very thoughtful in her decision of what types of products to use based on my hair's current health and what I wanted as an end result. In addition to all these wonderful things, I have to say her shampoo chair was possibly the most comfortable one I have ever been in. After passing this salon in town, I called and asked to come in to talk about having hair extensions done by Noelle Tagnola, the owner. What followed was a very unpleasant and unprofessional experience. My part: I was late bc of a flat tire, and my dog proceeded to get sick on her floor in the first 5 minutes. I was mortified and cleaned the mess up myself and took the bag outside so as not to stink up the salon. I have never had extensions before, so I showed Noelle 3 photos of "looks" I was interested in achieving with extensions and asked what was feasible. Her responses were confusing to me ("this is what I have." "will it look like this picture?" "it will have wave" "will the wave look like this picture?" "it will have wave"). I asked if she had photos of clients who'd had similar work done and she had two photos, neither of which looked like my hair or anything close to what I was asking for, so I was still quite confused about what I would end up with. After about 10 minutes, she started getting impatient and making me feel like I had to apologize for asking questions. When I asked her which photo I could get closest to with the extensions, she said "you have to just tell me what you want". I would expect that the photos I showed would have communicated that, and I look to my hair professional to advise me on what is achievable and would look best. Instead I felt pretty rushed and confused. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt though-maybe I was nervous because we're talking about a $700 investment and a huge change, and she was certified by hairlocs and had them in her own hair. Maybe it was me. After about 20 minutes, she took my email and said she would send me an estimate between 400 and 900 for the extensions. Then she DEMANDED $50 FOR TALKING TO ME ABOUT THE EXTENSIONS. What?! She never mentioned it when I made an appointment, and who ever heard of being charged just to talk to a hairstylist? She said it would be deducted from the cost of the hair. I asked her how I was supposed to know that she charged for the consult and she said "it's on the website" I told her I found her from walking by, but she didn't care or offer any kind of compromise. Not feeling like making a fuss, I paid and left. PS, I looked on the site later, and part of the $50 consult is the application of one extension so you can see what it would look like, which was never even offered to me during my visit. Her estimates were all above $675. I called to tell her that I wouldn't be getting extensions, and that we should work out the issue of the $50. Like I said, I support women business owners and wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. I was very polite, and she got progressively nastier over the phone. When I suggested a credit towards products instead of hair, she said "I won't put hairlocs in your hair and don't ever call me again." Don't worry, I won't. read more

I arrived for my appointment late. I got a call from Noelle as I was walking to the appointment to tell me to wait another 10 minutes before coming in because she was taking another customer. So that put me at about 30 minutes late instead of 15 minutes. When I sat down she said that she would not have time to do the lowlights and cut my hair. I apologized for being late and said that I would come back at another time. I really needed the lowlights done and since this was a first time for me, I told her that the experience I had with low lights is that the color must stay in longer to be able to cover the gray. Well she said that she had time to do the lowlights but not the cut. I should have gotten up from the chair. Sure enough she put the foils in my hair, stuck me under the hair dryer for about 20 minutes (usually I wait about 45 minutes without the hair dryer). Her next client came in and she said it would be five minutes while I was sitting the chair with foils under the dryer. She turned off the dryer and took me to the wash sink and washed the color and foils out of my hair. She then sat me back in the chair and ask me how I usually dried my hair. I told her that I blow dry my "up". She started to blow dry my hair back, giving me the onion head look. I mentioned again that I usually dry my hair "up" She said "What do you want?' Front or back?" I decided to give up on this. She finished drying my hair and sure enough my gray roots were not colored. I was so disappointed. She asked me if I liked it. I told her that the color did not take to the roots. I went to the counter and she charged my $135 instead of the $125 she quoted me on the phone, with NO CUT. read more

This is a very nice clean salon. Noelle is very friendly and professional. She is one of very few salons that uses the special nufree wax which is significantly better then other wax types. I lived in San Diego for 8 yrs getting waxed frequently but not always every five to seven weeks as recommended. I've never ever had any issues with this in the past. At the time of my visit to see Noelle I had waited eight weeks to time the wax before my wedding. Noelle thought my hair growth was a bit long for a Brazilian but given my significant past experience I was not worried. I should have been though. Everything went great when she waxed my arm pits (though this was pretty pricey compared to other salons) but during my Brazilian she turn my skin in a very very sensitive area. Luckily, I was kind of healed by my wedding night but it did not make for a very romantic evening to say the least as I had to explain the damage. Given the higher then average cost compared to salons in the Baltimore area (where I currently live) and San Diego (typically considered an expensive area) and given the traumatic experience, I would recommend going with a bikini wax only. read more

I'm basing this review off of the service I received for highlights and that's it. I'm sure Noelle will answer to this review like she did to every other negative review on here but I'll write it anyways. Scheduling the appointment was pretty easy, we communicated through e-mail and Noelle was nice. When I got to the salon I showed Noelle a picture of what I was going for. I'm a brunette and the picture I showed her was of caramel/golden toned ombre-ish highlights. What I got was streaky blonde highlights making me look like I just came out of a bad 90's movie. I went into the salon thinking that Noelle was an expert and that she knew exactly what she was doing. Turns out she had no idea how to accomplish what was on the picture and instead she just did regular ol' blonde highlight all over. After washing my hair and successfully selling a product to me because "my PH balance was off and I needed a new shampoo", I immediately wasn't happy with the results. Noelle didn't even tone my hair, because she thought it looked good without toning it and of course trusting her expertise, I went along with it. I told her that the highlights were really bright at the root and she suggested that it'll blend in more as I wash my hair. I walked out thinking that I might just need to get used to them. After looking at my hair at home I realized that I was not happy with the highlights at all, I looked at the picture I showed her and saw that really she didn't even come close to what the picture showed. I walked into work the next morning with people saying "I love your streaks!"...definitely not a look I was going for! I e-mailed Noelle, telling her I wasn't happy with the results and asking if toning it would make it darker. Noelle responded saying yes it would and offered to make an appointment to fix it. After living with the nightmare on my head for a day I was very reluctant to make an appointment with somebody who actually thought that what she did looked good. I called another salon to get a second opinion and after going in for a consultation I realized that toning was not going to cut it. I ended up booking an appointment with another salon and being there for 3 hours while the top of my head was colored with demi permenant color and chunkier highlights were added in to the ends, finishing it off with toner and a treatment. My hair looked completely different and exactly like the picture. At this point I realized Noelle had no clue how to do what was on the picture so she just did highlights. I e-mailed Noelle, nicely requesting a refund and wanting to return the product that I didn't even open or use. She replied back that her salon doesn't offer refunds or return. Way to take care of your customer base and actually care about the service you provide. In the end I ended up spending over $400. I can see it's no use in trying to argue with salon owners such as Noelle, any decent salon owner would've offered at least a partial discount considering that a customer was unhappy with their service. I don't like leaving bad reviews, and although my time spent with Noelle at the salon was fine (she was nice and we had a good conversation), in the end her customer service is absolutely terrible..along with the bad hair service in general. I really hope she understands and works on changing her policy a bit. read more

Noelle did my make-up for my wedding on Great Diamond Island. Being from California, I was stabbing in the dark to find a make-up artist in Portland. After a terrible experience at Fabu, I tried Andiamo for a test make-up session. Noelle and I hit it off and I immediately scheduled her for my wedding day. Having just moved from California to Maine, I needed a new hairdresser and took a chance at Andiamo. I take my hairdressers very seriously have and forged long loyal relationships with ones in my past. I HATE to miss appointments and look forward to them a week or 2 in advance when the gray hair hair starts sprouting. The first experience with Noelle was good. She was able to color the roots of my hair and all was well. I thought she was a little pricey, but being in the center of Portland is probably prime real estate and she doesn't share her shop to offset overhead. I let that go and made another appointment. The day of the appointment I got up and went to my car and the keys were locked inside. I called Noelle immediately at 8:30 am, my appointment was at 9:00, and apologized, leaving a message that my keys were locked in my car and that I would need to reschedule ASAP. She called back about 15 minutes later and told me to call Uber or get a ride from a friend or she was going to charge me a full $140 for a missed appointment! I told her I lived in Freeport and that Uber would likely cost about $70 round trip and I had no friends as of yet to give me ride to Portland and wait while I had my hair done. I told her this was out of my control and she repeated again that she would charge me the full amount if I didn't show up. In a state of shock that anyone would have such a punitive and unforgiving policy for an unforeseeable event, I actually started to cry (I know, it's really stupid but I did) and then used my Uber app. Noelle thought she was doing me a favor to give me a $15 coupon, but they are only good for first time users. Brian, the Uber driver, picked me up and drove me to Andiamo and in the mean time calmed me down and gave me a sympathetic ear. When I arrived, Noelle began to question me and ask why didn't I have a spare key? I told her my spare was in Manchester with my husband on his key ring and it wouldn't be back until that night. She really didn't understand why I didn't have a special key. Maybe she was questioning me to see if I was telling the truth. In any case, I was resigned to just get through the appointment without being contrary because you don't want an angry person doing your hair. Plus, I was pretty sure at that point that nothing I said would change any outcome. Suffice it to say, she charged me $140 to do a cut and my roots with zero remorse or understanding that you just don't do these things if you want to keep long standing loyal clients. My Uber ride was $59 round trip but the driver was priceless and texted me his girlfriend's long standing hairdresser's phone number in Yarmouth. The cost of a cut and roots was effectively $196 and I ended up feeling ripped off. I am pretty sure Noelle didn't believe me about my car.
