My friend and I drove 40 minutes to AndiMac candy shack and boy it did not disappoint! Andrea immediately welcomed my friend and I into the store and was eager to assist in any way she could. Andrea answered our questions about candy from other countries and even told us which ones seemed to be the most popular. We initially came into the store searching for squishmallows, which we did find, but, we ended up leaving with a bag full of new candy to try and a great memory that we will always remember. I can't thank Andrea enough for her generosity and help as she looked through boxes and boxes of shipments of squishmallows searching for a specific one we had been searching for. I've never been so disrespected and racially profiled in my life until today. If I could give this shop and the "owner or employee" a 0 star I would. Me and a couple of friends (specifically Asian) walked into Andi's like normal customers, this is personally my first and last time I will ever step foot Into that store due to the rudeness of one lady (white). She kindly asked if we needed any help and I kindly responded "no we are simply looking around, thank you and I will let you know," she continued to ask multiple times if we needed help from my other friends (Asian) and we all responded the exact same way. After looking around for a little we picked up a couple things just to "simply look" at them. The "owner'' was hovering over our shoulders and said "please stop touching things for Covid purposes" 1. She wasn't wearing a mask. 2. There were other younger kids digging into buckets of candy. 3. There were adults looking and touching things. 4. The fact she brought up Covid relaying the fact we were "Asian." We felt very uncomfortable and bought a $1.00 item which she didn't want to ring us up for and eagerly tried to get another employee to cashier, but had to do it anyway because there was no response. After leaving the store we were perfectly hanging around across the street and a "white" couple with 3-4 kids passed us and said "How's the stolen candy?" We were all very confused about the abrupt comment. My two friends approached them and asked about the rude comment implying we "stole candy." Replying with "We were just relaying the information the owner complained to us in store. A very uncalled for experience and I hope no one would ever have to go through. Two grown adults accusing high school kids we have "stolen'' candy, even though we showed recipes.A grown adult complained to her customers even though we paid right in front of her. This was absolutely no misunderstanding. To the owner, me and my friends are very offended about the actions that were projected to us. I hope you understand we were taught by very good parents to understand and have morals about the actions of being respectful, responsible, and the deeds of stealing. Maybe we were high school kids in a candy store, but intentionally inputting the words of "Covid" to imply a group of "Asian kids' ' stealing is unheard of. LOVED this place! A friend suggested I go, and I needed a gift-type basket. So, I made the trek to check it out and I'm glad I did. I'm a bit of a germaphobe, so to have found a cute little place like this that has unique candies and is SPOTLESS makes me feel that much better about what I bought. They stock items which I can't find at the regular grocery store, and many of the candies made me nostalgic ...so, that was unexpected and super fun. The staff was friendly/helpful and ultimately helped me with purchasing a candy bouquet. The bouquet looks awesome (better than what I could find at the grocer) and I can totally see myself coming back to get more of these to use as gifts. I was very happy to find a candy store closer to Midlothian on small business Saturday. Unfortunately,the lady they had on the floor was very welcoming and offering complimentary drinks to every other person in the store but me. I was there long enough to spend 54 dollars on candy and a box of dog treats, but the greeter only ever acknowledged I existed when she would excuse herself to squeeze past me to offer new customers her welcome and get the drinks she had offered to everyone else. After calling later, hopefully the owner may correct the issue, but as this felt like a very intentional slight on the greeter's part, simply be aware you may not be welcome there and she will ensure you know it whether the owner likes it or not. I will go back to other less convenient places that want my business. I had so hoped this would be my new candy shop as I love going to candy stores. Sadly, I will not force my business where it's not wanted. Hopefully no one else will have this experience and the store will thrive if corrections are made. Otherwise it will only be for the chosen few they want there. read more
