Disaster! Took my daughter here because it was closer to home than our usual spot (Studio 28 Tattoo on the West side), despite my daughter's wish to return S28T. Should have listened to her... She was to pierce her bellybutton. As we entered, there was only one attendant, a woman with an accent. I thought "funny, they only have one attendant" and I guess my subconscious warning bells were ringing loudly. However, as we were already there and as she was quite sympathetic and helpful, we stayed. The woman took quite some time finding the right spot, drawing it on only to wipe it out and drawing again, three-four times. The final drawing was straight and fine. I asked if I could take pictures but she said no, the owners doesn't allow it. Fair enough (another bell ringing though). The actual piercing went fairly quickly (although my daughter complained that it was far from as painless as she had seen on youtube). However, immediately we saw that is was not straight. The drawing was, but the piece was not where the drawing was... We went home, I was sort of resigned and tried to convince my daughter that it was no big deal. But she - who had looked so forward to this - was very disappointed and after a while I felt her pain and called the store to complain and ask for advise. My goal was 1) to find out what to do and 2) get the money back for the job (I would agree to pay for the piece, the cleaning liquids (~$20) and they could keep the tip too.) The same woman answered, saying "but she saw in the mirror where the drawing was...". Yes, I said, but that is not where the piece is.. She recommended to remove it, let it grow, and then make a new one, and that she could give me credit for the second job. However, she wanted us to come back to the store for her to take it out, and that the new job would have to be done at their store. No refund. No way we were going to go back there, obviously, so after 5 minutes of bickering (and my daughter signaling "forget about them"), I hung up on her and called Studio 28 Tattoo instead. They told us to let it heal for 2-3 weeks, after which they would be able to "repair" it. In sum: Understaffed, poor work, lousy customer service. Go to Studio 28 Tattoo instead... read more

Despite what some people think, tattoos can be beautiful art. And the most beautiful piece of tattoo art I've ever seen was created here, at Andromeda Tattoo, by a tattoo artist weirdly obsessed with squirrels. This is considered one of the premier tattoo parlors of New York. It's very clean, but not stuffy - it retains the atmosphere of underground and rebellion even though you can probably eat off the floor there. The people who work there are friendly and fun, always joking around with customers, not taking themselves too seriously. Sometimes one of the artists who's free at the time ends up doing reception duties as well, but most of the time there is a very friendly and sweet receptionist. The place is not cheap - far from it. But with art, just like with anything else, you get what you pay for. The artists here are worth the money. Came in today for my second tattoo, and escorting my boyfriend who was getting his first. We saw Eric, who was super excited to do something fun and a little different (I got a quote from Lord of the Rings in Tengwar script, he got symbols and quote from The Dark Tower). Natasha at the front offered us coffees right away, and they even showed me a heater to stow my soaking wet socks and shoes (the weather was disgusting and my feet were frozen). Eric was talkative and friendly, a great person to put you at ease and make sure you're as comfortable as possible. He took his time to make 100% sure that every single detail was how we liked it, checking and re-checking so there would be no mistakes. He's incredibly detail-oriented...he noticed right away that the first needle he opened wasn't perfect and made sure he was using only the absolute best on my tattoo. When I mentioned that I'd hurt my back a few days prior, he went out of his way to put me in the most comfortable position possible. He's a wonderful person, and a fantastic artist. The shop was clean, warm (very important on a nasty, slushy day!), well-lit, and organized. I can't recommend Andromeda and Eric enough! read more

A month ago I would have given this place 5 stars because I thought my belly piercing was fine, but 2 weeks ago my piercing was rejected and completely pushed out of my body. I called and was told that it was my fault and that my body just didn't want to accept the piercing. I took this as a legitimate answer because it could have been my body's fault. However, I went to another piercer to get a second opinion and was told my piercing was always going to FAIL because it was pierced incorrectly. The piercer used clamps when piercing my stomach, so the piercing was too shallow and would not heal properly. I paid $60 for that piercing and I expect that it should have healed properly. My friend and I went through with the piercing. 2 weeks later I went to get a second opinion (something didn't seem right). Small shop on the second story of the building. I came in here a couple times to check out the jewelry. They have a decent section of gold K stuff, which is nice: dainty to embellished looks. However I came in here for the cheaper jewelry. They sold me one that was $20 for a simple hinge/clicker seamless ring for my belly piercing (yes I know not very on tread with what's happening now but I wanted a 90s look). She did ask me when I got my piercing which is good practice (I got it 5 years ago). She also helped me pick the size of the ring (the diameter size) to see which I liked and she was patient. However only after I left did I realized that she sold me a 16g ring instead of the 14g that I asked!!! I didn't realize until I got back to my house to change it out. Because she reminded me that I couldn't change it in the shop and almost refused to give me alcohol wipes. I understand the store policy but at least take a little more caution into what you're selling people!!!!!!! Thank god I didn't have a 16g and she sold me a 14g. still wasted $20 for her to mess up my order. If she can't even get the jewelry right, why would I trust her to pierce my body... read more

I went in to get my nose pierced, alone.. my first adult piercing. A lady took care of me, she was very chill, told me not to worry it'll be over in less than 5 minutes. She talked me through the healing process & we began. Everything was clean and new, she wore gloves & we did it, it was so easy n I only felt pain after it was over. Needless to say I loved my piercing & it was very affordable $40 and that included the jewelry, make sure you tip! Got two different piercings here and had to remove them. I didn't mind paying their overpriced prices because I incorrectly assumed they would produce good work plus I don't skimp on prices when it comes to body mods. I'm a person that is clean and takes the healing process seriously and has had many piercings and tattoos without trouble but the piercings I got here did not heal right after trying for months and months with them. They were excruciating 24/7 and no matter what they both ended up disgusting looking. Who wants to walk around like that? I'm not sure if the woman here pierces wrong or if their jewelry is low quality but for it to happen twice something isn't right. It's probably both. Really unhappy with the results here and will keep on going to and referring people to whatever tattoo up the block that is way more reasonable in price and have always ended up with healthy piercings. Disappointing. Go somewhere else because the work here ends up bad and is a waste of money. read more

I went here to get my VCH piercing and the woman at the desk, Natasha, was a dream. She was friendly the second I walked through the door and answered all my very silly questions regarding the piercing that was about to take place. During the procedure she was very instructive in breathing techniques and talked me through the whole procedure from the beginning to the end. She gave very clear instructions for aftercare and said I could call her anytime for questions as the piercing healed up. I would go there again and again, as long as Natasha handles the work. The price for my piercing and aftercare procucts came out to $95 and I ended up tipping her for being so professional while handling a strangers genitals. I went here after rave reviews by friends to get my tattoo a few years back. At just 18, they barely checked my ID (I think I could have been 12 and no one would have cared). I had a custom designed tattoo by a friend who's a graphic artist and was going with simple black and white. Two small infinity symbols... nothing complicated. I was terrified of the needles, but was assured by whatever drugged out "artist" happened to be around that it wouldn't hurt. He tried to distract my from the pain (yes, it does hurt) by talking to me. Not only was he a skeevy, dirty 30-something who was staring at my ass the whole time, but he also kept teasing me that he was doing his own design permanently on my body! After much assurance that he was following the strict guidelines of the image I had provided for him he finishes, hands me a mirror and says - HOPE YOU DON'T MIND, I SORT OF DID MY OWN THING AT THE END. Yes. I did mind. He changed the design, without telling me, without my approval. My outline with a little shading turned into two black filled in objects. Not cute. Stay away if you have a specific idea in mind. Or if you don't care for disgusting back rooms and dirty old men. I should have walked in and walked out immediately. Do yourself a favor and don't walk in to begin with. read more

So,Natasha was great.friendly,knowledgeable, and such.She inspected the area where I was going to pierce, and explained why vertical piercing would be better than horizontal piercing.We both agreed. The piercing itself was a cinch! It was over before I knew it!If you are scared to get a VCH done, don't be! I have 8 piercings total, and will say that my septum hurt more than this! The VCH was done in a very clean room-Andromeda keeps up to their great standards. Those complaining about price-YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.Andromeda's jewerly itself is surgical steel. It is not crappy jewelry. If you pay less, and go to some hole in the wall, expect an infection and possible rejection of your piercing by your body. this place is really hit or miss, depending on who's working there. some of the staff can be fairly helpful and friendly (there seems to be quite a high turnover.) mostly though, i've experienced them to be blase and bored, or shady. i went with my ex-girlfriend because she was looking for a place to get her lip pierced. we went to discuss it on the stoop outside where a couple guys who worked there, all clad in leather vests and mustaches, were chillin'. my ex: "i won't be able to kiss you for three weeks." me: wince, sad face. big leathery men: "KISS HER NOW! DO IT!" me: "uh, let's get the hell out of here.." also, the jewelry is way overpriced for no apparent reason. i wanted a pair of gauge earrings for myself that were $28 each. i went across the street to a shadier place and found the same exact jewelry for $15 each. yeah, i wouldn't trust that other place to gauge my ears, but if i'm just buying the jewelry, why pay more? if i had to choose a place to bring an out-of-towner who just had to get pierced on st. mark's, this would probably be the place i'd choose. i mean, at least they speak english. overall though, i'd definitely try to find somewhere else. read more

What a diffrenence 5 years makes!!! 5 years after rudely being told to get the fuck out, I find myself in the chair. Nose piercing, I was petrified. The woman doing the peircing was sweet, understanding and very reassuring. My friend was getting her nipples done and after she finished with her, she came back to check on me. I don't know if this place is under new management or if the angry dude only works days, but I have a new love and appreciation for this place. Contrary to most other reviews, I had a great experience at Andromeda. I got 2 piercings and got my tragus stretched and a new earring put it. Natasha is the woman who did my piercings and she was great-- friendly, thorough, and answered all of my questions. The shop is clean and sterile. There was another girl there but I can't remember her name, she was friendly also. The pricing was what i would assume is average.. it was around $130 for both piercings and rings. I went in on a Monday evening around 6:30, so it wasn't crowded at all. I'd recommend going here for piercings! read more

If you have ever walked down St. Mark's you most surely have received their never-changing flyers. I am weary of any place on St. Mark's that aims to poke holes in my body. Their jewelry is decently priced, just your standard adornments, but good for your basic needs. I would probably go to one of the other places on my list for a permanent mod tho. read more

I came in to get a nose hoop. The moment I stepped in the woman at the counter was in the middle of a cell phone conversation and eating. Which is totally fine being that the store was empty. The store was empty and I was not greeted. The lady did not say hi or stop her conversation. She only stopped when another group came in. When she approach me, there was food in her hair and she was abrasive. While she did put on gloves, i did not see her wash her hands prior to it like other parlors/shops. I had a rook ear piercing (cartilage) done 6 months ago. It never healed, kept getting stressed and infected and eventually I had to remove it because of hypertrophic scarring. The piercer (female, with red hair), gave me no options when it came to what jewelry to pierce it in and insisted on a large thick gauge ball capture ring which I suspected was too big. I sought a second opinion from another piercer shop and they confirmed it was COMPLETELY the wrong jewellery and that was stressing out the hole, and that was why it was scarring and never healing. They said it would be better to take it out. Unless you are seeking the simplest of lobe piercings or have done extensive research on others, I don't recommend this place at all. read more

I came here for my first nipple piercing a couple of weeks ago. It was great! I was so nervous! Especially that I decided on getting it done like an hour before. So I got to the shop close to 12:30am, they were actually closing. I told the girl at the counter (forgot her name) that I was there to procure a nipple piercing lol She proceeded to show me the ring options. I chose a silver surgical steel screwball ring. i want to say it was a 14 gauge but i dont remember. i was too nervous. I signed a consent form of some kind and from there we went to the back room. She cleaned the ring, then did my nipple, then marked where she would insert the needle, yada yada yada, I looked away at that point. The piercing was quick and less painful then I imagined. it's great and I love it. If you are looking to pierce your nipples, look no further! I would def come back here and get my other nipple pierced, maybe even a VCP. I really want that VCH read more

Went here for 2nd holes in my earlobes and they offered to do them with a gun. Are piercing guns OK again now? I'm so confused. I mean, it's hard to screw up an earlobe. But it's been 20 years and I still remember trying to sleep with those pointy studs jabbing me in the neck. They did pierce with a needle when I asked (for twice the price ... that DID hurt) and they look fine and I slept great. Again, hard to screw up an earlobe. But customer service here is somewhere between baffling and unfriendly, and you aren't getting a deal on the price. read more

I got a daith piercing here 3 months ago. Found out today the reason it can't heal is because it has been pierced wrong. So I have to take it out and let it heal up for a year. My 14 year old daughter had a nose piercing here and I had a navel piercing yesterday. The place looks like a typical/lower east side tatoo piercing place. I am writing because the woman, Carmen, was unbelievable. Neither one of us hardly felt the piercings at all. She was professional, patient, knowledgeble, and kind. She has been piercing for 17 years. I would definately recommend her to anyone. She was also careful to show us how everything she used was sterilized. Great.
