With the exception of my first haircut, Anfa has been my go-to barbershop while I went to school in the city. My hair acts funny when it gets too long, and walks a fine line between looking great and looking truly awful when cut. Anfa gets it right every time, and I will gladly pay a little extra to have it done right. The barbers are all respectful, friendly and love to strike up a conversation. They are very detail oriented as well as fast, but that does not detract from the quality of their work at all. I would recommend Abdul or anyone who works there to give a great haircut. read more

Been going to Anfa for over 2 years and Abdou has delivered consistently great service! Very few barbers know how to cut curly / wavy hair but Abdu certainly does. He takes the time to blend the haircut perfectly so it doesn't look like a cheap cut from a chain barbershop. Prices are cheaper than most barbershops in the area (this is Back Bay!). Completely shocked to find this place in the Back Bay! I had only been able to find super expensive salons or phoney "barber shop clubs" which are incredibly over-priced and mediocre in the area. All I want is a good, quality, pretty simply haircut in a friendly atmosphere for a reasonable price. $17 in the Back Bay seems like it must be a typo. Went in for a haircut and came out pleasantly surprised. The main reason for not getting five stars is that he didn't really listen to anything I said. I told him what I wanted and he just started cutting. When I made a face because he was going shorter than I told him to, he said "I know what I'm doing. I will make it look good" and never stopped cutting. In the end, he was right. It was a damn good looking haircut. I've been here a couple times and have had nothing but great experiences. I've been more impressed with the consistent quality of haircut I've received here than any other place I've ever been to. The price, $28, may seem a bit high to some, but I believe it is competitive for the area and certainly worth it. The only negative is there sometimes is a bit of a wait. I went in yesterday for a trim after reading a few Yelp reviews. The place is clean, had comforatable chairs, a wide assortment of magazines and big windows for people watching-or car parkers ( i watched a lady try three times before she got it ) My barber was the actual owner and he was great! We talked non-stop and hit it off. He did a wonderful job on my hair and I'm definetly going back in a few weeks. There also is another nice guy and young lady that have chairs. Both of them were busy while I was there and into their clients so everybody was talking and happy. The clients while I was there ranged from me-a professional, to a grad student to an older gentlemen that is probably a weekly visitor. Quite the range which means something!! I was vacationing in Massachusetts and came down to visit my friend in the Beacon Hill area. Everything in and around the Newbury street area is beautiful and hence ridiculously expensive. I had about three hours to kill before a Foster the People concert and after taking a couple looks in the mirror decided that I was in dire need of a haircut. I walked down Commonwealth Ave., Newbury Street, Yelping my way through the shops. There were some highly rated places, but the average price for a haircut would be $50-80. Finally, I decided to not be so much of a snob and settle with a barber shop as opposed to a salon. This was to be the second haircut I have ever gotten at a place other than my mom's salon (She owns a full service salon in the Sacramento, CA area). I found Anfa, made my way to the shop, which is located in a very high end section of the neighborhood right off Comm. Ave. Abdul was extremely friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in. I felt like I was meeting a friend I hadn't seen in a while. He referred to me as "my man" many times which, pronounced in his Moroccan accent, was endearing if not sort of amusing. I was afraid I'd feel stuck in an awkward conversation with a barber or that I wouldn't be able to fully communicate what I wanted in my haircut. He was very intent on knowing exactly what I wanted to do. I told him to trim it down and make it look clean--he did that and more. He was pretty perfectionistic and pointed out that I had moved at one point during the cut so he picked up a mirror, showed me while repeatedly stating that he could fix it, and worked hard to correct it on the left side. It was totally my fault. I fully turned my head at one point during the haircut whilst not realizing that someone was hacking away at my locks with a pair of scissors right behind me. There isn't really much else to say other than Abdul is clearly an extremely nice guy and a very talented barber (though I think it suffices to say that his hairdressing style seems more akin to a talented hairstylist. He cut my hair with scissors almost entirely). Abdul is also a hilarious man. I can pretty much guarantee you'll be laughing for the duration of your haircut. When you're not talking about something serious in Abdul's life or your own--he's surprisingly good at toning down the energy and "getting real." At the end of the cut, I paid Abdul $22 plus $8 dollars tip (it felt ridiculous to pay him just $22 for this great of a cut and experience). Just beforehand, he had offered to drive me to the concert I needed to get to because I had lost track of time and was probably due to be a little late. I didn't take him up on his offer, nor do I know if he actually would've driven me to the amphitheater. It was certainly a good business move, though. I asked Abdul for business cards to refer my Bostonian friends to him. I was sad to hear he didn't have any in stock. Whenever I need a haircut in Boston, I know where I'm going now! read more

Found this place via yelp. Went during a lunch break from work. I got Abe as my barber and wow what a great deal. I told him I was on lunch and he trimmed and faded my hair in about twenty minutes. He lined up and trimmed my scotch-irish beard in about the same time. Straight blade shave hot towels and great skin products used to prevent irritation. He finished it all in about an hour, which was super convenient. The place is clean, plays quiet classic rock, and has a good magazine selection. To top it off this only cost me 35 plus tip, definitely will be a monthly regular here! read more

I felt for Abdul when I came in for a haircut. He was down a barber and the line started piling in. However, he did his work not only fast, but so efficient and detailed. He works not only hard, but gives you great quality. While some will not be happy that it costs $28 for a regular haircut, his fast and well-done work is so worth it. I'll probably go in the next week or so because that's how often I need a cut. He doesn't take appointments but it's always good to call ahead and see where he is. Awesome spot if you are out in the city and wanted to stop in. Best place I have gotten a haircut in Boston so far and that's coming from someone who loved broadway hair in New Haven for 6 years prior to moving back to the city. read more

Best barber by far! I have been getting my haircut for years at a barbershop and this place is amazing! When you first walk in to the place it almost feels like a high end salon. The brandnew leather seats and mini tvs layed out at each station are great. If you can sit by window, which is open during nice days, you get to gaze out over Newbury Street and watch the people out and about. The haircut that I received was excellent. I got what I asked for. I did not feel rushed at all. The cut was a combo of electric clippers and scissors that in my opinion. When my hair starts to grow out its very even and never looks sloppy. One added bonus of the place is the hot shaving cream and razor cut on my neck and around the ears. For this type of treatment you would expect to pay a lot but the prices are very reasonable! read more

I have been going here for around a year and have received amazing cuts every time. I'm very picky and they always accommodate and impress.

I'm generally very picky when it comes to hair cuts, but I was completely satisfied going here. I had to wait for 2 hair cuts in front of me, and in between watching the terrible movie on the television, it was apparent that the barber paid attention to detail when cutting hair. Often revisiting the same spot after looking around the other parts of the head. I have a set of clippers/scissors at home that I usually touch up with, but didn't have to use them this time. The hair cut was pretty comparable to Tweed Barber shop, but appreciably less expensive. My only complaint is that there was a bit of a language barrier when communicating with him. On the morning of my wedding, I wanted a hot shave so this is where I went after doing some Yelp research. His prices are midrange - not cheap but not expensive but you get good quality and don't feel rushed or stressed. Appointments don't run late and you will be seen on time. Parking is tricky but as long as you know this and plan ahead you're good. This is a great local barber shop in Back Bay. Reasonably priced for a standard haircut but also offers many more options. There is little to no wait time if you walk in but you can easily make an appointment on their website or give them a call. It's great that they are opened later in the evening if you can't make it during the day because of work, etc. I definitely recommend. Good guy, bad cut. The owner (Abdul I believe) is a skilled barber but did not listen to my request. I asked for just a trim on the top and he took off quite a bit...way too short. Extremely bad experience. The barbers hands stunk of cigarettes, leaving my hair smelling terrible and was looking up at the TV every 5 seconds. Also the trim cost $35 which seems extremely over priced for a walk in barber shop. I will tell a story of 3 haircut appointments. The first one ended with a last minute cancellation, so short notice that I showed up without seeing the email. For the second one the guy shows up 20 minutes late, hungover, and in desperate need of a shower. The third one, this time a different barber, the guy literally just doesn't show up.
