Went here for the first time yesterday with my girlfriend. I have been to multiple bike parks and the length and quality of these trails were great. Even more than the trails though the employees working the lift were awesome. You could tell they genuinely like and care their jobs and put off a great vibe and give incredible customer service. Individually, Matt gave us recommendations for trails, helped us find a bike pump, helped my girlfriend learn how to load her bike, and brought us a trail map when we didn't see where they were, all with a smile on his face. Angel Fire Ski Resort did not handle the situation that we had very professionally. My 11 year old son went down the bunny slope and accidentally clipped another child's skis and both were down. The ski instructor came over to my son while still laying on the ground and berated him. Her arms were up in the air and she was yelling and screaming at him while he was down on the ground. My son is only 11, no child deserves to be treated like that especially from a teacher and professional! My son cried the rest of the day, gave up on learning to ski and so we asked for a refund. The ski resort refused to refund anything. We expected more professionalism from a place like this, but seems like it's not operated on a very professional level. Angel Fire Ski Area is amazing! This is our first time here and we loved it! This morn we road the ski lift, Chile Express, and were fascinated by the mountain bikes and riders, The chairs have a special bike rack on the back of each chair, every other chair can actually carry 2 bikes . The bikes are loaded by their riders, then the riders take the next chair. The bikes are unloaded at the summit and ready for the bikers to mount and head back down the slope . There are various levels of difficulty. The lift ride is very reasonable and you can ride as many times as you wish, for us it was only $10 each (senior rate)..that was the riding/ hiking rate. On Thursday, 9/2/2021 I woke up to see that the lift status was "Delayed" according to the Angel Fire web page. Due to all the rain the night before it was understandable. I watched their website all day waiting for the "all clear". It never came so I packed up my gear for my departure the next day. I then decided to go for a walk only to see the lifts in operation. When I inquired as to what was going on, the girls in the booth said they forgot to change the status. This was 2:30 in the afternoon. I'm out $60. I wonder how many other people were depending on their "source of information" and were screwed like I was. I don't mind the fact that there are no refunds for those things that are out of their control, but this was entirely within their control, and they should be accountable. read more

I am exceptionally disappointed in this ski school. We took our 3.5 year old who has been on skis since last season here because our local ski hill doesn't start lessons until 4. We explained to them what he knows, what we do with him. They wanted to get him out of using the edgie wedgies. I wanted them to teach him to turn. Neither of those things were done at all. They took him down a 10ft hill with an edgie wedgie. We take him down green trails and he does great. They did less with him than we do, by a substantial amount. And he took a 3 hour nap. Not cool. They told us this a ski school, not daycare. They were wrong, it's 200/day daycare. Never again. read more

I had the worst experience of all my years snowboarding at this resort. I visited last March with 3 friends and I'd like to bulletpoint my pros and cons: Pro: -Great mountain to ski/snowboard on Cons: -There's ONE uphill road that gets you directly to the resort if you're coming from south (we were driving in from Texas). In a blizzard/ any snowfall, the resort doesn't give a shit if you can't make it to check in on time. They also don't give a shit if you missed your snowboarding class- you won't get a refund, but *if* you're staying long enough and can make time in your stay, they can move your class to another day. But don't expect a refund for your lift tickets that came with the class. (We bought 3 days of lift tickets and the boarding class was covering our first half day of lifts. When the class was moved to a day we already purchased lift tickets for, there was no refund for the half day of lifts we lost.) -Their restaurants provided the WORST service. I honestly had no idea who our waiter or waitress was. We waited forever for water, never got refills, and a different server took our order than the one who got our water, another delivered our food, nobody checked on us unless we grabbed a server from a nearby table, and lastly, yet another server got us our checks. -Upon arrival, nobody helped us with our carload of stuff -We were told our room number, but not which tower it was in. The front desk watched us wheel our junk all over the lobby to get to the right elevator. Again, nobody helped us or guided us in the correct direction. -The staff seemed annoyed to be bothered with your questions -Don't expect refunds on anything read more

Went between Christmas and new year and Had good snow and skiing at Angel Fire. The place is overrun during the holiday and can't handle it. We booked Country Club Villa 32 thru the angelfireresort web site and it nearly ruined the whole vacation. Bottom floor flooded and was unusable. No option to move so we all crammed into 2 rooms. Also needed 4 wheel drive and there was no mention. Had to park across the street and fight for spots. read more

Never been so disappointed in check in. I thought Wyndham had much higher standards. This is unacceptable anytime but in the days of COVID to have dirty dishes. Patio furniture hasn't been cleaned. And there aren't pictures of the dirty silverware or toaster full of crumbs. The front desk guy is nice as can be but there is no one else on site to help and no rooms to move us to. We spent our first few hours using our wipes to clean and we are rewashing all the dishes. This is pretty bad. Also. There was a broken glass in the back of the cabinet. Couldn't use the washing machine cause it was gross, whatever was in it before had dried up and stuck. When I contacted the property manager he said they didn't know it was dirty, that must have been the old cleaning company, no one had been in the unit for 3 weeks. I asked if they checked it before our arrival and he said no. Didn't offer to send someone to clean, didn't apologize, didn't care. The dishwasher was useless too, I did more dishes on vacation than I did at home. read more

This review is all inclusive The Resort-(3/50 We didnt stay in the resort itself but in a condo very close that was owned by the resort. Free wi fi, nice restaurants, a decent hot tub and indoor pool. Overall the place is pretty nice, LOTS of retired persons, which is kinda nice, im not looking for that spring break party when i go skiing. The Area-(5/5) If youve never been to northern New mexico this place is awesome. From taos to santa fe and the whole rest of what they call "the enchanted circle" this place was super fun to tour around. Saw the taos pueblo, bought some indian rugs, ate a bunch of mexican food, sweet vacay spot outside of skiing The skiing-Ok people, i can look at a map, and a trail map and from this i have determined this resort is not taos, this is not wolf creek and this is not vail. When you get over the fact that that mountain is small, IT SNOWED EVERY FREAKIN NIGHT. 3-6 inches of pow every morning. The terrain is cool, glades ranging from very soft to very hard, the back side of the mountain is awesome with albeit short but beautiful runs. So i loved it. If you want to do backflips into bowls, go elsewhere; if you want to find people to stay up late and get hammered with, go elsewhere. BEWARE! This place is a nightmare and an accident waiting to happen. First took twenty phone calls and finally had to leave a message just trying to make a reservation. I finally posted on FB and asked for a general manager to call. Still waiting. When we arrived it's obvious that they are a tired old resort. Both the men's and women's bathrooms only had two of the 6 stalls working. Making the lines about 20 minutes to go to the restroom. Also the wood stairs all over the resort are rotting. And the anti-slip material on the stairs is totally gone. Not worth the risk or the money. read more

We just got back from Spring skiing there and had a great time. We took our 5 year old twins there and they were able to ski most of the trails down Chile Express and everything on lift #2. All the employees there were so nice and accommodating. Here are a few tips if you are going there for Spring Break: reserve ski gear early. We were saved by Cottam's by renting last minute but it was slim pickings. The guys there were fantastic. Also, we parked next to the resort for $10 but I think you taking a shuttle would be fine. Lunch time is mayhem but the staff does the best they can. We ended up eating on a set of stairs because so many people stake out the limited table space (who are these people that don't ski). Also, if you want ski lessons, book far in advanced. The kid's ski school was booked up and it ended up not being a big deal for us, but book early if it is. We talked to others that said the ski school was great (not crowded and a lot of ski time). All in all, we had a great time and will come back next year, albeit better prepared. One last thing, rent a place early. We got stuck in a dumpy place in the snowfire lodge because we waited so long. I wouldn't shy away from getting a nice place a few minutes outside of town. Parking is good if you don't mind spending a few bucks. If I can't ski on/off I would definitely rent a place a little ways away from the resort. read more

AF is really only an option if you're close or don't have the desire to go to a real resort. The snow in NM is notoriously iffy. Which is fine, a resort can't control the weather. What I don't get is why they insist on inaccurately reporting the number of open runs, and why anyone would be okay with paying full price for a lift ticket if less than a third of the mountain is open. Taos is a much better option for real skiers, and Red River is pretty much the same price but with more of a ski town feel (and considerably better terrain), but suffer from the same crappy snow problem as AF. For first-timers, AF is likely a decent option, but for advanced - and even intermediate - there's not much to explore. There's three hike-to blacks and a handful of mostly rutted out blacks on the back side, and a couple rocky blacks on the front. No glades. When there is decent snow and the whole place is open, it's a cheap option but tends to get seriously crowded and probably isn't worth the hassle if you're looking for a proper ski area. read more

This review isn't for the lodging. I just couldn't find another place to review the actual mountain/skiing itself. Angel Fire is what I would consider a beginner mountain. It has many green runs (the easiest) but also has some reasonably challenging blue runs, and a few black runs that look formitable. On the front side of the mountain is a bunny slope with a slow moving 2-seat lift where beginners can learn the basics of skiing before treking up to the top of the mountain. The Chille Express is the 4-seater main lift that takes you to the top of the mountain. This lift ride takes about 20 minutes and overviews a large green stretch along with several blue and black runs. At the top of the mountain you have the option to ski the front of the mountain or ski down to another 4-seater lift that takes you to the back side of the mountain. The backside has a mix of runs but seemed generally more challenging than the front side of the mountain. The nice thing about Angel Fire is that most of the runs end up on part of a green run. That means more experienced skiers can take a blue or black run and meet the beginners in the group on a green run. The green runs are very wide with minimal trees and gradual slopes. The blue runs are narrower and steeper but I had a 2nd time skier (he went on the trip last year) with me doing the blue runs by the end of the trip. Lift tickets are as reasonable as skiing can be. A ticket is about $50 and it good from 9a-4p. There is night skiing but looks to be limited to a small portion of the front of the mountain. The big negative about Angel Fire is getting around. The ski village is composed of 4 levels (read: 4 flights of stairs). At the bottom is the restuarant/bar, 2nd level is outdoor seating, 3rd level is more seating and restrooms, and the 4th level is the ticket booth and lifts. There are buses from the parking lot to the stairs below the ticket booth but you will at some point have to go up and down the stairs! read more

Great for those who can't ski. For those who can head to Taos or Red River otherwise be prepared to be yelled at for skiing to fast even on blues and blacks. Wow, the majority of the rooms do not have AC! In the middle of summer in New Mexico, this resort doesn't think that AC is a necessity for its guests! I can't believe this! For how much we paid for a night at this resort, we were left wishing we had just gone with an AirBNB. I called the front desk asking where the AC control panel was and there response was "There is a fan in the closet. If you open a window and put the fan next to it, the room will cool down quickly" 1st, it did not cool down at all! It went from probably 80+ in the room to at best 75. It was just too hot. 2nd, for a $200/night room and the resort to say "Open a window" is just poor customer service. 3rd, we were on the second floor which was directly in front of a parking lot. SO everyone outside got to look directly into our room with the box fan running and windows open. This resort room was probably super modern back in the 70's but it hasn't been updated since then. Cracks throughout the ceiling, holes, no lighting in the ceiling, popcorn ceiling, paint chipping on the walls. Old and outdated fixtures. This place is not worth the money! Just get an AirBNB. You will be much happier, and you'll probably get AC! read more

My first impression upon arrival was that this is going to be nice lodging. I was wrong, the rooms are very outdated. I guess if you place "resort or spa or both" you have an illusion of modern rooms. My biggest issue is NO AIR-CONDITIONING (I guess you can count the fan in the room as A/C), if I could open a window that would be great but the patio is enclosed with a glass structure that acts as a greenhouse. It was not comfortable to sleep because the room was so warm. Considering the price we paid I would expect more. Kudos to the cafe in the lobby, good food!!! Bottom line don't stay here spring, summer or fall you will bake in the rooms. Post Script - WiFi sucks. read more

Our two children (ages 6 and 4) participated in the Children's ski school and my wife and I also took multiple group lessons ourselves. If you take one thing away from this review, it is "TAKE LESSONS -- THEY ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY!" Children's ski school - our kids were in ski school for 3 days. This was their first time skiing (first time even seeing snow). By the end of day 3, our 6 year old was skiing on Highway and Headin' Home (green slopes) and our 4 year old was linking wedge turns on Dreamcatcher (bunny slope) like a champ. They seemed to have such a great time and the instructors seemed to do a great job of keeping the lessons fun and entertaining while still getting the most out of the kids. It also allowed for my wife and I to enjoy some skiing on our own which was very nice. Group lessons - my wife took group lessons all of day 1 and again took a morning session on day 3 as this was only her 2nd ski trip ever and 1st since about 8 years ago. She felt much more comfortable after taking lessons. In particular Ron Lohn helped her tremendously. She went from not liking skiing very much due to a previous bad experience to openly discussing when we'll take our next ski trip. I took a group lesson on day 3 focused on intermediate blue-level skills and took several things away that I'll continue to work on going forward. read more

Disappointment of the ski school is a vast understatement. If the instructors cannot handle young children, the option should not be available to use. There were multiple children to be picked up before 9:30am (while drop off is at 8am). I was called to pick up my child before 9:15am & we were refused service for day 2 of the lessons that were previously purchased. That is unacceptable. We paid over $650.00 for absolutely nothing. No refund, no option for the next day. We also had to figure out options for our child for the full two days that we were supposed to be having lessons & skiing with the rest of our family. We feel that if you cannot handle the behavior of 4 year old children & younger, you should not offer it to parents. What we experienced was not out of the realm of behavior for young children (crying, throwing a fit, wanting to play in the snow, boredom, not listening, etc) yet multiple parents were given false pretenses that their children could attend (safely & directed appropriately) ski school at Angel Fire, only to be called to come get their children barely an hour after dropping them off. Had we known, we would not have wasted so much money only to have to make other accommodations for our child while we were there. If you have children, the tubing & sledding experiences were fantastic! The base of the hill has places that they can slide down & not in the way of the skiers. I would definitely not recommend the ski school though! read more

Review of 2022 trip The roads around the resort were good. The resort is super cute as you pull up. The front office staff are super nice and helpful. The lobby was nice and there was a spot to sit next to the fire. We stayed in a room that had two queens and access to the atrium with a semi private patio. When we walked in I thought the room was huge for a hotel room! There was also a (fake) fire place going as our heater. Our room had a mini fridge and tons of storage. The access to the atrium was really neat. Our room looked at the mountain, we could see the plows all night or shut the curtain. We opened the door to the atrium patio if we got hot to cool the room. The resort are STEPS from the mountain base. There are ski rental shops on site. We rented a locker at the base of the mountain. We put our kids in lessons and that was very helpful for them. We tubbed the first day. It was a great hour of fun. There is a magic carpet that you and your tube ride up and you speed down and race your friend. It is nice not to have to walk up the hill each time you tube!!!! There are several options on site for food. The food is a little pricey (good quality though), but if you don't want to leave you have options in walking distance. You can also use the mini fridge. There is a coffee shop on the lobby that serves starbucks (no SB gift cards can be used).  We enjoyed walking to El Jefe over by the Chili Lift one night for a taco and drink. They played Jimmy Buffett and I got to gaze at the mountain, so cool! We skied two days. We went after the holidays and there were no lines at the lifts. I would recommend warming up on the dream catcher lift and run, the transition to lift #2. Then jump on the Chili Express lift and head to the summit. Stop at the Summit Haus and check out the views before you pick a run. I loved Headed Home that has breathtaking views and takes you down to the base of the mountain. After two days of skiing I soaked I. The indoor hot tub. My son got in the indoor pool and played for a bit. We grabbed an Angel Fire shirt and a cute tail sign for our wall at home to remember our trip. Overall, TERRIFIC spot to stay and ski! I will be back!! read more

Those in my family who ski thought the skiing was very good, even though it was early in the season. They specifically commented that the staff were extremely friendly. I also had a nordic ski lesson at the Country Club associated with the resort and the teacher and the experience were excellent. That said, there are a number of drawbacks: 1. It costs $5 to stow your ski stuff or to rent a locker while skiing. This is much more expensive than other places in NM. 2. The Angel Fire lodge's fitness room is disgusting. It's cramped, hot, dirty, and has old, broken equipment. It reminded me of a public high school weight room in a poor school district. 3. The indoor pool is located in a freezing-cold breezeway, with the hot tub located up a flight of stairs from the pool. While we were using the pool, some security guard interrogated us about whether we were guests at the Lodge. 4. The condo that we rented through the Lodge front desk was adequate except for the promised wi-fi, which was off more than it was on. read more

Spent a few days at Taos ski valley and decided to come over and check out this ski area. Very basic, no frills, and very crowded with families. Having said that.... We loved this place. We had different levels of skiers and this resort fit the bill. Easy greens, solid Blues and challenging blacks. Loved the fast lift to the top of mountain. This is a great ski area for all types of ski levels. Just a side note, we did not overnight at this ski area. We drove from Taos (40 min) to spend the day. Town doesn't offer much... Pretty bleak off the mountain. read more

It was a great experience however, it would have been way better if the lady scanning our lift tickets didn't cut them off of us. The lady was rude and unclear, she kept our tickets and said we needed another one. She did not tell us why, she just told us to leave. We had already gotten on the lift two times and when we went in line for our third, she just cut it off. I believe you need to recheck your staffs, they should have more experience with people. People won't want to come back if you have rude employees. Also, she cut them off at 2:30, we've been here since 11. We did not get our moneys worth and i will not be coming back. Yes there is no air conditioning but we had a huge fan provided which was sufficient with the cool nighttime air. We had to close our window as it became too cold. Do not stay at Christi Villas or Angel Fire resort for that matter. When we checked in to our room, we had one towel for a condo that sleeps six and we were told there would be an extra charge and that the lodge could not give us towels. We called the property manager and we got the voicemail. We paid an outrageous price for a musty room with navy ship berthing bunk beds. I don't mind paying top dollar for top dollar amenities. This was not even close and I am easy to please. When I went to the front desk they said there is nothing they can do and that we need to call the property manager. The answer we got from the property manager was "you should have called us when you arrived." We arrived around 7:30 in the evening and no one answered the phone. Completely unprofessional and junior varsity. I will never stay at Angel Fire again. Good luck... read more

We stayed at the lodge and skied as part of the 'White Sale." Price was very reasonable because the lift ticket was included in the package at $59 per person, per night. The resort isn't bad... it was dark and a little dated, but everyone was friendly and helpful. On to the mountain... incredible snow, incredible time. Thank you El Nino. I learned to ski in the Great White North, so the Sangre De Cristo mountains seem big and steep to me. The runs are well planned (and it looks like they will be expanding soon?), are nice and long, with lots of options. Loved the Chile Express lift! Can't wait to go back. read more

The views are unreal and the hiking in Angel Fire is perfect. However, The Lodge is dated and not worth the money. While the rooms are spacious, the bathroom showers are moldy, the carpets were stained, and the ceilings had massive water leak marks. The toilet paper in the bathroom was in a weird locked box. The maid service did not replace the shampoo/conditoner or coffee during our 3 night stay. We had to go to the front desk to ask for more. The food options at The Lodge were subpar and overpriced. We ended up finding way better food options in town. If I return to Angel Fire, I will not be staying at The Lodge. read more

The lodge is the worst. Not enough light in the rooms. The fixtures in the rooms are all broken. Peeling wallpaper, holes in the walls and counters. Unfinshed patchwork. Went for a wedding. The wedding coordinator was non existence, i ran my sisteon laws wedding. Overall horrible experience. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

The Mountain is good when there is snow. Children's Ski School was great. Do NOT rent condos through the resort. We stayed in The Lifts F2. Not what we expected at all. Cons: -There were nails sticking out all the way around the small door from the garage to the condo. -One rung of the bunk beds was missing - 1 very small bar of soap provided for 3 bathrooms. - No pot holders or dish towels provided until I called the following day - Condo is 4 floors. Very steep stairs. 2 flights of stairs to the kitchen - Was told we would have space for 2 cars. One small car fit in the garage. Good luck finding another spot. Many bigger cars taking up more than 1 spot. - They don't clear the streets in the winter. - Rented this unit due to its close proximity to lifts. It was too slick on private streets to walk to the lifts in the mornings. - 1 of the potties, the only one on the floor with the kitchen and living area, was clogged when we arrived. Maintenance did fix it the following day. - Light in dark, steep staircase was out. Maintenance did repair. - Curtains and vertical blinds do not work or cover windows properly. This condo is in desperate need of some major improvements. I know it's individually owned, but it is managed by the resort. Interesting they don't have any reviews on their website. I will return to Angel Fire, but I will rent from another property manager or a website that allows people to post reviews. read more

We are at Angel Fire now and I'm so annoyed with this whole experience that I'm posting now, before I get complacent. This review is for the town and the activities side of the resort, not the lodging. (We are in an off site condo, thru VRBO that is a 3rd floor walkup--not mentioned in the ad--with horrible wifi. But I'll rant about that elsewhere.) This whole town is poorly run, like it is way undersized for the crowds they're trying to attract. And the ski center is a series of different buildings, all that involve a hike on stairs. It is just poorly organized, a lot of waiting in lines, and horribly overcrowded, just a sea of humanity in fleece. Not cool when you've got 4 kids in tow. Seriously, this is not my first ski experience, but it has been decidedly my worst. One fellow named Tanner was helpful at one point, but otherwise I just kept encountering service people who were pretty blase. Pretty much you'll have to take the shuttle to get around (even of you're just two blocks from your destination), which is $1/person. 6 people in clan = a sh@t ton of exta expense after a few days. Oh, and the wifi in this WHOLE TOWN sucks bad. I needed to spend a few hours working while the kids were tubing (another poorly - laid out scene). Condo had bad wifi, resort has nonexistent wifi, Cafe Express had nada, and even the library (where people don't know to STFU), where I found the best option was still mediocre at best. Do not come to this town and think, "hey, we can stretch our trip out a day or two by mom/dad working remotely for a bit for during the day." Nope, this town hates wifi apparently. It is nearly 2016, fer crissakes. They have Internet at the International Space Station already. Oh, and the town is otherwise quite lame, walking to stuff is highly impractical, and I'm feeling pissy because of all the $ I've shelled out for a sucky family trip. So let me add, the dogs here are ugly and the trees smell funny. (That last sentence is a lie, but I'm mad.) So suck it, Angel Fire. read more
