    Mice on the blinds
    Joseph W.

If I'm being honest it was abysmal and that is being kind. With the amount of money we spent on the wedding on top the price of the rooms the customer service from the staff was deplorable with the exception of the front desk, Everett the valet, and Julia the restaurant server. Upon pulling in Marco the valet verbally accosted me, threatened my safety and then threatened to call the cops because I asked him to stop speaking over me and to stop calling me "brother" he then made threatening comments to me every time I went to my car and refused to do his job. All I did was show up while gay and he treated me like filth. At the wedding The banquet manager screamed at a server in front of the guests and then sent her home crying, the food and beverage manager forced one server to work the entire event after that My room had a mouse infestation, they don't clean under the beds and I was charged multiple times for food from the restaurant. It's as if they decided to phone it in on a weekend when they made upwards of $20,000-$40,000 On the guests for the wedding. I don't expect much but basic courtesy and respect which is something that was severely lacking from Marco the valet guy and nearly every other person except for the front desk and Julia and Everett. 0/10 I would never recommend anyone stay here

    The Frida Kahlo cocktail

I am very surprised by the negative comments I've read. My husband and I had a wonderful time. The property is beautiful and convenient to the plaza. Between the two of us we partook in 3 spa services (massage, facial and meditation) and all were superb. Every single employee in the resort and the spa were exceptionally attentive and kind. It felt a bit like Disney World where everyone is happy, but wonderfully sincere and appropriate for the setting. Oscar in the Anaconda Bar made me a cocktail like I've never had before, so indescribably good, and I recommend everyone try it, the Frida Kahlo. The food in the De La Tierra restaurant was fantastic. If they make their pineapple upside down cake when you're there, get it. My husband never offered me a bite, which is highly unusual, and didn't talk until he finished it. This is the highest praise a dessert can ever hope for. If you have the opportunity to stay here, do it!

My sister and I planned a get away and looked forward to treating ourselves a bit but we were both disappointed in the experience, especially with the high cost to stay at the hotel. Pros- Staff for valet and shuttle services were very friendly and helpful. Food at on-site restaurant was very good. Front desk staff shared many recommendations that were helpful. Cons- Response times from housekeeping was unacceptable. We waited over an hour for creamer for our room and our tray from breakfast sat outside our room for over 6 hours. The hotel doesn't look to be maintained/cleaned well as the pool looked filthy and there was equipment left out in the pool area. The spa was okay as far as the massages received but there were no clean glasses for water, tons of dirty towels and no TP in the restroom, even an hour after I notified the front desk. This was my second visit to the hotel and I probably won't return.

I had a great stay at El Monte Sagrado. Very helpful staff who were up late to manage our reservation. I loved the fireplace and large tub in the bedroom (perfect for sipping some champagne or tea after a long day!). I'd love to stay again - thanks for a great trip!

This is a lovely resort with very nice accommodations scattered around a lushly landscaped campus. The bar is a very nice place for cocktails and live piano music. The restaurant seems underutilized, and doesn't serve lunch, which is a bit odd. The staff is very welcoming.

I really really wanted to like this place. I do have to say we came for a wedding and the venue was beautiful and the food was great. We stayed at the resort. And things started off bad. We checked in and in the restroom was left over pot. Ok, not so bad. Nothing to get mad about. Then when we got into bed the top sheet had a giant hole in it. How do you not see that when you make the bed?! Scary. Ok so we told the front desk. Their response was "ok we'll get that changed" no apology or anything. Ok so that night we get into bad and that sheet is shredding apart at the top. Can you not afford sheets?! Seriously. We also found some kids used clothes left over in the drawer. And my husband gold crackers on the floor. I wouldn't not go back.

Wonderful resort in the mountain town Taos. Very pretty. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The staff were efficient and good service. They have an onsite bar and restaurant as well. The decor and theme of the room was perfect. The patio was overlooking a koi pond.Very serene and beautiful.

Stay-Eat-Drink and live the Suite life at captivating & luxurious El Monte Segrado! Nestled in the mountains of northern New Mexico. El Monte is the Crème de la Crème resort! Don't bother looking anywhere else, the resort is beautiful and the staff is professional & were all very helpful and attentive. Keep in mind we're still recovering from the aftermath of the pandemic and it's difficult & challenging to have a full staff on duty at all times, we need to take that into account and appreciate the ones who hustle. I got the "Morocco" 2 bedroom king Global Suite which is a spacious 1132 sq ft with all the bells and whistles for a perfect getaway. *2 Bedrooms each *Featuring 1 King Bed *2 Bathrooms *Spacious Living and Dining Area *Private Courtyard *Gas Fireplace *Wet Bar *Refrigerator *Hot Tub *Plush Robes Now that's living the Suite life! El Monte is a lush maintained retreat of cottonwood trees, ponds, waterfalls........ its picture perfect. The resort is walking distance from the Plaza, very convenient. When we went out for a late dinner the driver dropped & picked us up, now that's service! With all the amenities such as their living spa, wellness center and the award-winning De La Tierra Restaurant where Sexyfood is the standard no need to leave this heaven on earth experience! Trust me enjoy the Suite life at El Monte Segrado. Ciao

    An example of mismatched things
    Taylor A.

This place is gorgeous. The room I stayed in was massive and the view was beautiful. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable. That's about all the positives I can add. I agree with other reviewers - it makes no sense to charge a $27 resort fee ($25+tax) when the amenities are closed. Understood - covid precautions mean the spa and pool and jacuzzis are inaccessible. What am I paying for then? They provide one tiny vial of body wash, moisturizer, etc. for two guests. The room was pretty barren when it comes to surplus supplies - no additional blanket etc. The restaurant is closed on Monday nights for deep cleaning, so imagine my disappointment: no spa, no jacuzzi, no food, and not even an ounce of bubble bath. The fire place is nice, but it's on a 60 minute timer that TICK TICK TICKS loudly the entire time. The furnishings feel pretty mismatched - different handles on the facet vs bathroom doorknob vs shower doorknob etc. Wood and tile and pebbles and carpet and marble. Even the artwork was abstract faces and deer antlers and wild horses. It's just kind of all over the place, feels like decoration was an afterthought (or perhaps just not my style?). Honestly, I expected more. I likely won't return.

From the moment we pulled into the parking lot we knew we were in for a treat. Staff guided us in and led us to check-in. The hotel and spa is gorgeous! The check-in and lobby are located in the main building along with the bar and dining room. Everything is well appointed in traditional Taos style. The hotel is situated on a beautiful site and the grounds are well maintained. Our room was comfortable, clean and luxurious. Our dining experience was just as expected. Food was great and service was exceptional. After dinner we opted for a few specialty drinks at the bar. Our servers were very friendly and attentive. The drinks were different but good. Definitely a memorable weekend.

Staff was smiley and kind, though not very personal. We've been to other B&Bs where the personal touches really made the stay. Our first night, we slept okay. The bed wasn't the most comfortable and was pretty creaky. The pillows are plentiful but all flat pancakes. The water pressure was sad, and it took over 30 minutes to fill above the jets in the tub so we could use it. Also, we checked everywhere for a spare roll of TP when we ran out the second night, but there was none. We also had some trouble with spiders in the tub both mornings. We were greeted at breakfast by the host (never got her name), who was sweet and friendly, but it was clear there was chaos in the kitchen. Both mornings, breakfast was delicious, but it took well over an hour to be served. The second morning it was clear they'd run out of several things, which was disappointing when watching other tables get their food and ours was different and kind of sad by comparison (even though we arrived at 9:15, 45 min before it ends). I totally understand things happen, but when you're a bed and breakfast, the bed should be comfortable and the breakfast should be available quickly and efficiently so you can go about your day. I can see why others have had such wonderful experiences here, and the property truly is gorgeous and relaxing, but overall it was more of a miss for us compared to other places we've stayed.

There were multiple maintenance and functionality issues. The ductless mini-split system was not working properly, and the wall-mounted thermostat did not control the heat or A/C. The ceiling vent appeared obstructed and poorly maintained, raising concerns about airflow and ventilation. I also noted that the smoke detector showed no visible indicator light at the time, making it unclear whether it was operational, which raised a safety concern. The room itself felt dated and not well maintained. There was a visible spiderweb and debris buildup on the window sill, and the window area overall showed a lack of cleaning and upkeep. Additionally, the wooden window blinds were damaged--specifically, the upper right blind is missing the center wooden control rod, so each slat had to be adjusted by hand. The blinds also catch on the window frame/sill, preventing smooth operation and full closure. Because the room was on the ground level with people walking by, this resulted in a lack of privacy that would reasonably be expected. The bathroom also showed wear, with deteriorating caulking and grout around the tub/shower. Basic amenities were lacking--there was no clock, mini fridge, or microwave, which made the stay less convenient than expected. Additionally, there was a mouse trap placed under the bed. While I understand pest control is sometimes necessary, its visible presence in the guest room raises concerns about cleanliness and overall room readiness. Most importantly, the condition of the room and lack of amenities did not align with the price paid. For the rate charged, I expected a higher standard of maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality. The experience felt significantly overpriced relative to what was provided. The property has charm and a strong location, but without better upkeep and attention to detail, it does not currently deliver value for the cost.

For those who live in the Denver area it's only 4+ hours drive. I got to talk to the owner (the husband of the married couple) just this morning when I was having an Avocado Toast in the dining room. He worked in the corporate America for 25+ years. When he got tired of it he and his wife bought this hotel. It had been abandoned by the previous owner for some time so after he had purchased it he renovated the entire premises to turn it into what is now today. He and his wife certainly have great tastes in everything as the charm they created is simply bonita. But...the trailer 'FRIDA' itself just did not match the $300/night price point for a sunday on a long weekend. At first glance it looked clean enough--fresh white linens, towels, working Wi-Fi, etc.--but once you settled in, the cleanliness issues became hard to ignore. There were crumbs on the couch when we arrived, toothpaste splatter still on parts of the mirrors/walls, and the bathroom sink barely drained because it was so clogged. The floors were honestly the biggest shock. My son ran around briefly without shoes and the bottoms of his socks were black within minutes. What really sealed it for me was seeing the cleaning process during checkout. Staff were placing duvets outside on the patio furniture while turning over the trailers. Unfortunately, the chairs themselves were dusty/dirty, and ours even had bird droppings on it. It just didn't inspire confidence in the overall housekeeping standards. It felt less "curated desert escape" and more "surface-cleaned trailer with great branding." I truly think this place has potential because the concept and location are so unique, and the staff we interacted with were lovely.
