I contacted another cobbler first, told to send photos, waited for callbacks, called them again and got vague answers about how delicate the leather was and how cleaning it could spread the stain... they said they'll think of ways on what to do and call me back and then never heard back again. Thankfully, I found Chito's Shoe Repair online and reached out by text with photos of my bag. Within 5 minutes, they responded and asked me to call. Jenny spoke with me personally and was incredibly patient, kind, and reassuring. She didn't make unrealistic promises, but she took the time to explain that she wouldn't fully know the outcome until she saw the bag in person. I was extremely stressed, and her honesty mixed with compassion immediately made me feel better. What truly amazed me was that even though the only time I could get there was after their hours, Jenny still accommodated me and allowed me to bring the bag in. That level of kindness and care is rare. When I arrived, she carefully inspected the bag and walked me through exactly what her cleaning process would be. She explained everything in detail and set realistic expectations while still making me feel hopeful. At that point, I honestly thought I may have ruined my bag permanently.. especially because in my panic, I had already tried a few things myself that probably made the stain worse. Two days later, I picked up my bag and it looked like NOTHING had ever happened. I genuinely could not believe it. The stain was gone, and my bag looked beautiful again. What stood out even more was how much Jenny genuinely cared about educating me. She taught me about leather care, explained how leathers react , and even gave me advice on a wallet project I was trying to fix myself. She wasn't trying to upsell me or push me to bring everything in for repair -- she actually wanted me to understand how to care for my own items. That says so much about her character and integrity. I also met her husband Chris, and together they are just wonderful people. Warm, knowledgeable, honest, and clearly passionate about what they do. I'm beyond grateful I found someone I can truly trust with my luxury pieces. When I tried again in the afternoon, he gave me an address and said his sister is helping him and will meet with me. Went to the home and the man introduced himself as Don so I was so confused. He said a business partner is sending him leadals, maybe that is Don? The woman (Loan) was very sweet who did my alterations. Anyway, whoever I ended up being sent to was ok but it wasnt Don and cant find her listing to leave a review there. Leaving this here so others are aware they may be sent elsewhere instead of Don. The alterations for 2 jackets were ok. One jacket was perfect but the other was looser and not quite as tailored. Price was cheaper than standard so I was not too upset, you get what you pay for.

Today the same thing happened again. The timer was stuck at 15 minutes and the machine kept filling with water. While it was running I was putting other loads into the dryer, and the employee was helping another customer. By the time she finished, about five more minutes had passed and the timer was still stuck at 15 minutes. I explained the situation and asked either for a refund or for the load to be covered since the machine clearly wasn't operating normally. The employee insisted the machine was working properly, and we went back and forth for a bit. Meanwhile, another 10 minutes passed and the timer still hadn't moved from 15 minutes. Eventually she agreed to cover the load, but only after I mentioned that I would leave a review and file a complaint with the BBB. I've been a customer here for years, so it was disappointing that it took that much effort just to resolve an obvious issue with a malfunctioning machine.

When you bring your shoes here, you are told how he will be able to fix them, whether its like new or he will do the best possible work. He has been in the business for over 25 years fixing shoes/boots and custom making them. He is the best in southern California and has seen a lot of different scenarios. Please remember that when you have a deep scratch on your shoe and he clearly tells you that it won't turn out like the other shoe, don't expect a 'like new' shoe and don't be upset when its not like new. What I admire most is the honesty Mario has when working with people. He has been in the business for that long for a reason (his good work spread by word of mouth). If you ever want to bring your items in, have him take a look and he will tell you what can be done, honestly. read more

Hugo used to have a cobbler shop in the Midway shopping center in Point Loma. After COVID, his storefront closed, but he still takes on repairs. Every Saturday, he sets up in front of his former shop location to meet with customers, collect orders, and return completed work. He does the actual repairs from his home workshop in Chula Vista. I brought him three pairs of shoes, all of which needed significant work. The first was a pair of mules that had severe dry rot and needed the entire sole replaced. The repair came out beautifully and gave the shoes a whole new life. I also brought him two pairs of vintage leather boots. Both pairs had broken zippers, which he completely replaced. The leather was conditioned and restored, and they look fantastic. One pair had wooden heels that had been worn down from years of dragging my feet. Instead of replacing the entire heel, Hugo skillfully rebuilt only the worn portion, preserving the original look while making them look practically new. Everything was finished in about a week, and the craftsmanship was exceptional. It's becoming harder and harder to find skilled repair specialists who take this much pride in their work, especially for vintage footwear. Hugo clearly knows his craft. If you have shoes, boots, handbags, or leather goods that need repair, don't assume they're done for. Talk to Hugo first. I'm incredibly happy with the results and will absolutely be bringing future repairs to him.
