This family-owned restaurant is located off the Virgil H. Goode Hwy in Boones Mill, Virginia and has been in operation since 2014. To get there I had to drive on the highway and with the change in time, when I arrived, night had already fallen, and it was dark. With no traffic lights to turn to the small parking lot of the restaurant, I had to wait until cars stopped coming from the other side to be able to turn towards the restaurant. You could say it was an adventure just getting there on a Sunday evening. Once inside, the place was clean, cozy and had a comfortable ambiance, with eclectic dining furniture and decor. A young lady who would be my server, greeted me and took me to my table, leaving a copy of the menu with me and taking my drink order. I had a fountain drink. When she came back with my drink I ordered a House Salad with the House dressing to start with, and a Klukin Pig Sandwich with Homemade Chips. The sandwich had ham, chicken, bacon, provolone and Chef dressing on a Ciabatta bread. The salad was a nice size salad, served in a plastic bowl. I enjoyed eating it with the House dressing very much. The sandwich was not too big but good tasting. And the chips were pre-cooked, so they were somewhat dry. I had expected they would be fried at the moment, like in other restaurants I'd had homemade chips before. For dessert I had a Funnel Cake Sundae. It was huge and delicious. The other desserts they had were mostly slices of cakes and pies packed in plastic containers. I could see the locals or tourists of this small town dining here, but I wouldn't make it a trip just to dine there. read more

My husband and I stopped through here on our way to an apt. We wanted to have a lighter lunch, so we opted on to split a burger and fries. We were so delighted that when the food came, the cook was thoughtful enough to actually cut the burger in half and give us our own tray and fries. The food itself was delicious. The fires were the perfect mix of crunchy and soft. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. We were recommended the burgers from a friend, And this place did not disappoint. My husband had their habanero, which is their spiciest burger. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the service is on par with some of the best restaurants we have visited. Servers here were very attentive, with a very homely feel. Some things I would recommend the establishment do, is provide a thicker slab of beef with the burger and change some of the awkward lighting on the north end of the restaurant. We also got their Neissy sandwich which was absolutely delicious along with a side of Mac and cheese. I loved it and it was definitely filling. The habanero burger, other than the thin slap of beef, was impeccably presented and lived up to its description on the menu. We are always excited to find affordable places to eat out that tangibly take pride in their customer service and product. To start our waitress was 5 . Thank you Maddy for making our first visit extra special. Second, all of your portions were well over the top, and everything tasted delicious. We arrived just as they opened but the place filled up fast. We started with three appetizers. The fried okra was delicious and huge, the chicken bites were served hot and huge enough to share with all 4 of us at the table. The hush puppies were good also , but I was informed they only had enough for a half ordered so the took the price off my bill and then finished the order out with onion ring. Thanks you for that. I ordered the ring of fire burger and I will have to say it lives up to its name. The heat sneaks up on you but I wouldn't describe it as too hot. It has just enough heat to give it great flavors. If you don't mind the fact that you are eating in a covert hostile work environment and care more for sandwiches than the minds of young girls, which seems to be common, then go ahead and dine in. As a former employee I can say, the predatory , ignorant, and sly behavior that exudes from Holly, towards minors, anyone she doesn't take a liking to, or doesn't have the patience for, is nothing short of intolerable and distasteful. I'm sure everything I'll say below will be confronted as not being truthful. As I was addressing this one-on-one, these examples have already been called "allegations"--insisting these are stories made up, and I've been called "disturbing" for telling the moral truth. I don't care who believes me or if anyone else who works there didn't have the same experience; there is a reason for it. My BIGGEST concern and what I would like to be made clear is how, during the re-opening of the FC distillery next door, Holly had no issue letting predators prey on her teenage staff, and even at times, encouraging both parties to take things further. She constantly insisted that we flirt with older male customers and VERBATIM said again and again" make them think they are going home with you." This was said to 16 to 18-year-olds over and over, with me being the oldest at only 20 years old after a non-busy Saturday night. She was disappointed when it was evident that her business was failing and began to convince us that it was because we didn't entertain the guys, she truly believed this. The environment created by Holly is not only toxic but also dangerous. Encouraging young staff to engage in flirtatious behavior with significantly older patrons is a clear violation of workplace ethics and safety. This behavior not only puts the young staff at risk but also creates a culture of exploitation and harassment. It's crucial to understand that these actions can have long-lasting psychological impacts on the young employees, who are still at a formative stage in their lives. Our crowd was around 25-60 years old. I, again the oldest only 20, couldn't even have a drink with the men she wanted us to "entertain." Jokingly or not, it's never pleasant to hear about an 18-year-old being asked if they just got done doing inappropriate things with a 45+ year-old man just because they were in the same vicinity. "oooooh you have your b*tches back here doing the dishes???" -Holly to a 40+ year old man, regarding another young girl and me just doing our jobs in the same kitchen. The talk around this teens body was horrible. I have plenty of examples for I remember them all bc of how shameless she is. This behavior seemed to stop only after I called it out and threatened to quit and let people know. I then went back to Holly Jo's. The straw that broke the camels back personally, was having to hear from different people, that there was racial comments made about me and another girl that worked there, who ended up leaving recently bc of Hollys behavior and whatever she experienced during the last bit of the distillery being open. After the distillery closed, I was on edge for Hollys return back to the restaurant. I knew she didn't like me after I called out her and her posse's gross behavior at the distillery, and I tried to convince myself I was just in my head and that over time we got past it. Come to find out she did have underlying negative feelings towards me. I was told that she drunkenly after hours said "she had two Mexican girls working for her that she needed to get rid of." Apparently, you can't work peacefully in Boones Mill if you aren't white, pretty, and a naive yes man. I'm not sure what I was expecting, especially with this being right across from Trump Town and The Boones Mill Produce a problematic wood working place, but this is my hometown, and that hurt. I treated every person and customer in this place with respect and love no matter what their political or religious belief were, to have it almost never be returned. I put up with a lot, listening to more then I should've here. The work was the easiest part when comfortable. read more

Holly Jo's Creekside Grill is one of those places I wish I could find in every town I visit. I found this place nearly by accident after driving through Roanoake into a grey area void of anything. I see the reviews, boom I just past it. Wheeled around and went in for lunch. The parking is a little tight, but we found a place. The building is in nice condition, and has a warm inviting feel. Inside its on the small side with maybe a half dozen tables. Everything was clean and in good condition, including the restroom. Plus it is tastefully decorated. We were greeted as soon as we entered, and the service was fast and friendly. They have specials posted and a full menu of sandwiches, appetizers, plates, and deserts. I got the Creekside burger with fries. A cheese burger with bacon, avocado, and a spicy ranch dressing. Later we ordered the fresh pork rinds with pimento cheese, after seeing it at another table. These pork rinds were fresh and perfect tasting, cooked just right. The pimento cheese was obviously home made and was some of the best I have had in a while. Plenty of cheese, just the right balance or mayo and pimento with a slight spicy kick. Excellent. The burger was cooked up well. It was cooked all the way through, slight crust on the outside and still juicy. Perfect. The bacon was cooked up nice and had a great smoky flavor as well. Fresh avocado on top. Slightly grilled up bun. It was indeed one of the best burgers I have had lately. The fries were nice and crispy, and not greasy. The deserts were home made and looked absolutely delicious, there was just no way I could eat anything else though. I would expect them to be in line with the rest of the food so save room to try them out. This place totally rocks. The food and service is top notch. So tasty! We had the Lady Bug burger (with fried green tomatoes), Philly Flat Bread, and a kids cheese burger. We all enjoyed our dinner. The Mac and Cheese bites were also a big hit. My homemade potato chips were mostly overcooked, but the few that weren't we're delicious. I was so pleased with everything else, that it really wasn't a problem.
