    Dale's Diner.
    David B.

Dale's is your typical little country diner. My kind of place, you may say. I enjoyed a moist, tasty meatloaf dinner here in June and a tender Chuckwagon Steak ( commonly known as a country fried steak ) here in July. The only knock I have about Dale's Diner are the portion sizes. I do understand that many restaurants are struggling to keep going these days, so it is not unexpected they must trim where they can. But after you finish your entire meal, you should be fine and no longer hungry. I will be back soon. This weekend was good for me, but they had to do electrical repairs and were closed. The service was great, the food was fine and the prices are good. No real complaints I guess.

Food was mediocre. Air vents in ceiling are disgusting and need to be cleaned. Like to support local but won't return.

One always has a delightful dining experience here. Today, I decided to dine there on the way to going to watch the Actic Productions musical of Into The Woods which was being performed at the D. Geraldine Lawson Performing Arts Center in Fincastle, Virginia. I arrived soon after they had opened at four in the late afternoon. A friendly young lady greeted me at the Host's station right at the entrance of the restaurant and after asking me where would I prefer to seat, took me to the table of my choice. Studying the menu it was not easy to choose what to get from the great variety of dishes. But by the time my sever Kaylee arrived with a big smile and welcoming attitude I had made my decision. I would start off with a Mojito Mocktail to drink. As appetizer I ordered their Coconut Shrimp, followed by a House side salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. And as my main entrée, their 8oz Filet cooked medium-rare. I asked the server for the items to be spaced out and to have the salad before the main entrée. The Mojito Mocktail tasted wonderful. As I was enjoying it a young gentleman server assistant brought me the Coconut Shrimps and they looked amazing. They were enormous in size, very crispy on the outside and fresh and moist in the inside. One of the best that I have ever had. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. Then came the salad which also looked and tasted wonderful. Almost right after bringing me the salad, they brought me the main entrée of the Filet cooked to perfection with a loaded Baked Potato. I don't like when this happens, but the food was so good that I patiently ate it and then asked to speak to the manager. There was no manager on site but the person in charge of the kitchen came to see me and I explained the concept of timing to him as a constructive criticism, letting him know that everything was so exquisite that I was not upset, just wanted him to know so that in the future when this is corrected both the other customers and I could have a more pleasant dining experience and enjoy our food better. For dessert I had their Strawberry Shortcake and it was amazingly delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream in the middle. This was the Grand Finale of an excellent meal. The incident of the timing, suddenly didn't seem to matter that much because they took my feedback gracefully and I was able to teach them a lesson in fine dining. In conclusion I continue to highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to returning to try one of their other amazing items from their menu.

The calamari wasn't cooked crispy enough for me but it was fresh. My mother had the fried oysters and fries. She loved it! The service was great. The decor was nice. Bathrooms were clean. I took a trip to our Daleville office and everyone I ran into there said the same thing "try Fishin…read morePig"! & they all said that the catfish was delicious so I had to try it. The menu says it is a sandwich but it's more like a poboy with lots of fish on a sub roll. So much that at one point I had to leave the bread behind! That's a good thing because some places don't give good portions of fish like that. The sauce was good and I just HAD to try all the barbecue sauces on the table. I'm not a bbq eater, but the sauces were REALLY good with the catfish and mixed in with my ketchup for the fries. Everyone gave that wonderful southern hospitality and Mike , one of the owners, came by to check in. Very nice and I look forward to visiting again when I'm in the area.

I'll start with the positive because the food truly deserves recognition. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The wings were some of the best I've had in a long time. They were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and tossed in a sauce that had the perfect balance of flavor without overpowering the chicken. Every bite was delicious, and they were easily the highlight of the meal. The BBQ was just as impressive. The meat was tender, smoky, and packed with flavor without being overly salty or dry. You could tell it had been cooked with care. The sides complemented the meal well, making for what should have been an excellent dining experience. If I were judging on the food alone, this would easily be a five-star restaurant. Unfortunately, the service completely changed the overall experience. From the moment we were seated, it felt like we were forgotten. It took an unusually long time before anyone came to take our drink order, and after our food arrived, our server was rarely around. Drinks sat empty for extended periods, and we had to look around multiple times just to get someone's attention. What made it even more frustrating was the waiter "groaned" when we asked for a refill. We waited far longer than necessary for simple things like refills, checking on our meal, and eventually getting the check. There was very little communication, no sense of urgency, and no effort to make sure we were enjoying our visit. Great service can elevate a meal, while poor service can overshadow even the best food. That's exactly what happened here. The kitchen clearly knows what they're doing, and the quality of the wings and BBQ is reason enough to visit. However, the front-of-house experience needs significant improvement. Friendly, attentive, and timely service should match the quality of the food being served. Of all the times we ate here this by far where the worst service we have ever had. Most of the time the service is impeccable. Tonight it fell short, I always usually leave a tip, but tonight was different. I could bring myself to leave a tip on such poor service. I genuinely hope The Fishin' Pig addresses these issues because the restaurant has tremendous potential. The food is absolutely worth recommending, especially the wings and BBQ, but customers shouldn't have to endure poor service to enjoy a great meal. Until the service improves, it's difficult to give this restaurant the rating the food alone deserves.

Abby was very attentive and came to the table frequently to check in and do refills. To start off this dining experience, we ordered the crab bites and a couple of clam chowder. First off, the clam chowder was great. It was one of their special items for the week, so it may not be available every visit. The crab bites were just okay in my opinion. The remoulade they were served with did have a good flavor though. I probably wouldn't order this appetizer again on a future visit. I've had a couple of people tell me to try the hushpuppy basket on my next visit. For the main course, I had jambalaya and would definitely have it again. The sausage, shrimp, and chicken were perfectly seasoned with all the Creole spices you want and expect with jambalaya. The people with me had fish and chips, crab cakes, and the Low Country boil with crab legs. Everyone was pleased with their main courses and agreed that they would come back to try more items. Overall, I would say this was a good new option in Lynchburg that's definitely worth a try, especially if you're a seafood lover. Can't wait to see how this restaurant develops after this soft opening week.
