This is hands down the best pasta I've had outside of Italy. It's made fresh and al dente and they also sell it to go for home cooking. We visited for a late dinner on a Friday. The restaurant is BYOB so we took a short walk down to Boyd's pharmacy to get some wine and beer. Bordentown parking is challenging, so be prepared to leave extra time for finding a spot. Our meal started with fresh baked sesame semolina bread that melted in your mouth. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara and my wife ordered the pasta with crab. Both dishes were amazing and portions were large (we both took some home). The service is professional and the staff is knowledgeable about the menu. They did have a lot of specials in addition to the menu. The atmosphere is quaint and somewhat elegant. In the nice weather you can even sit outside. read more

Pros: I genuinely can't think of a single favorable aspect of our dining experience. Cons: Everything--from the service, to the table spacing, to the food quality--was an issue. The ambiance and layout were problematic throughout the meal. The table spacing was already uncomfortably tight from the start, and toward the end of our visit, a party of 10 was seated in a way that completely blocked off the front left side of the already small dining area. This left only a narrow path on the right side for entry and exit. Given how confined the space became, it raised legitimate concerns about safety and whether the layout could pose an issue in the event of an emergency. After waiting 40 minutes for the complimentary bread, I finally had to speak up and ask for it to be brought to our table. Given that there were several open tables both inside and outside, we couldn't understand why there was such a tremendous delay with such a simple task. For an additional "starter" my dining partner ordered the Caesar salad which was completely drenched in dressing. While we were initially excited about the homemade pasta entrees, we were extremely disappointed once out they arrived. I understand that homemade pasta is typically served al dente, but neither dish was cooked properly. I had to cut my pasta with a knife because a fork simply wasn't enough, and my dining partner couldn't cut several pieces of his pasta at all--some were still noticeably crunchy. I was especially surprised, as I've dined here before and don't recall these kinds of issues--perhaps there has been a change in the kitchen. Unfortunately, we weren't able to address any of this during the meal because our waitress, Marti, never checked on us from the time she delivered our entrees (about an hour after we were seated). Not once, not even upon delivering the check did she ask us how our meals were! Before leaving, I chose to address the server, Marti, directly and share our experience. I expressed my disappointment with both the service and the food, but her response made an already bad experience significantly worse. Every comment was met with a large, clearly insincere smile and a dismissive "I'm sorry to hear that," with no effort to actually resolve anything. A good server would show genuine remorse, offer to involve a manager, or at the very least attempt to make things right--whether by addressing the issue or offering to comp part of the meal. None of that happened. There was no accountability, no urgency, and no real acknowledgment of the situation--just a phony, rehearsed response that felt completely disrespectful. To make matters worse, shortly after we left, my dining partner became ill, experiencing both diarrhea and nausea, along with severe stomach pain that has now lasted over 14 hours and is still ongoing. It's very tight seating for a table of 2 sometimes, unless you can get a table by the front windows. One of our favorite Cesar salads, very flavorful. My Veal was very tender and the vodka sauce was delicious. My wife had the black pasta with shrimp and crabmeat. There were only 4 shrimp and very little crab, but of course lots of fresh pasta. Came here on a Thursday night for dinner with friends. And it was great. Shown to our table right away, the food and service were both excellent. We ordered the lasagna, which was rich, cheesy, when you get the dish, it's not the traditional lasagna you come to expect, it's presented from a different perspective, and the taste was on point to any good lasagna you can remember. The chicken and shrimp fra diavolo had just the right amount of heat, with tender shrimp, juicy chicken, and a flavorful, spicy tomato sauce that really brought the dish together. The short rib ragu was a standout -- the meat was fall-apart tender, and the sauce was hearty and deeply savory, paired perfectly with the pasta. Service was attentive and prompt throughout the meal. Our server checked in just the right amount, and everything came out hot and fresh. It's clear the kitchen takes pride in their food, and the front of house makes sure guests feel welcome. What a great little spot. The inside is super cozy and the service is fantastic. They do have a few outside tables in front as well. The food was amazing. All the pasta is fresh made and it shows in the flavor. The Emma's meatballs were delicious as well as the grilled octopus, the barata cheese special, and all of the appetizers we had. The chicken and shrimp fra Diavlo was amazing. The lamb special in steak specials I was told were great as well and perfectly cooked. I heard so much about this place so I was very excited to try it this past Wednesday evening. We started out with the mussels that were very good. Their special bread was also a nice treat. Then came the 2 chicken entrees. I had the chicken parm and my wife had chicken franchise. Amazingly, both chickens had that "rubber" chew. I came into town on business and after careful deliberation with my team - we decided on Angelo's... which I'm so happy we did! Located in a very cute neighborhood with shops around. Very walkable. The restaurant is a smaller spot, but nice and intimate. I would highly recommend a reservation, because with it being on the smaller side... it can get booked/filled up quick. Something that was new to me was the BYOB. Bring your own booze :) so if that's your thing... be sure to do so. They do offer water and regular drinks however. They also bring a bread basket, with the softest and freshest bread I've had in a long time. It tasted delicious to boost. The oil mixture they offer is amazing too, be sure to dip. For food I got the Mafaldine Bolognese, the rest of the orders with my party got the Pasta and Peas, Ricotta Gnocchi, and the Pan Roasted Salmon. We all agreed... everything was amazing! You can tell the pasta is all handmade and very fresh. The fish I was told was superb and cooked to perfection. Making the whole experience perfect was the amazing staff, very friendly and attentive when needed. If you're in the area looking for amazing Italian food, look no further! Came here for lunch recently and had an OK time. First, the restaurant was pretty empty, but I think the recent air quality issues made Bordentown a little quieter than normal. Anyway, we decided to take a risk and sit outside, and it was still pretty pleasant despite the aforementioned air quality :) Our server was OK - he seemed a little irritated throughout the meal, which isn't really the quality you want for a relaxing Italian lunch, but whatever. I ended up getting the pollo + funghi panini for myself, while my wife got the short rib + prosciutto. The prices were a tiny bit high ($16 each) but not unreasonable, especially considering the portions. My sandwich was decent! I asked for a portion of pesto mayo on the side for my fries, and I think they may have misinterpreted that request a little bit. I got the pesto mayo for my fries but I think it was missing from my sandwich! So I think they just moved it onto the side instead of giving me an extra portion. That being said, we couldn't find the pesto mayo on my wife's sandwich either, so I'm not really sure what happened. We didn't end up wanting to drink anything, but I do think alcohol is BYOB, just so you're aware :) Overall, there are so many good or great Italian restaurants in the area that we'll probably hit up another place next time, but it definitely wasn't a bad experience! read more

Have been here many times and always a good experience which is why we came for our 37th anniversary. Ordered the calamari and chopped salad for starters and both so plentiful and delicious. For dinner hubs got the Ricotta Gnocchi - so tasty and I opted for the Chicken Saltimbocca. This is the second meal time I have gotten a chicken dish here and very disappointing. The chicken had a gummy texture and not like any saltimbocca I have had before. I would say stick to the pasta as they do a great job with that. Bread on the table was two flattened pieces of Italian bread - cold and flattened. Looked like someone stepped on the loaf . Surprised. Based upon some high recommendations from my neighbor, we decided to try Angelos for our 50th wedding anniversary dinner with our very good friends. We arrived just a little before our 4:30 reservation which was the only time available. We had our pick of tables but within 30 minutes the place was packed. Now I understand why. The place has a nice cozy vibe. Our waitress went through every special in detail and they all sounded delicious. We decided to share two appetizers toasts between us both of which were great. I settled on the steak in a whiskey sauce which was done to perfection, ie., medium rare. My wife had the chicken and shrimp in hot cherry tomato sauce served over bucatini. This was also excellent. Love the fact that this is a byob. Overall, the service, the food and the ambiance made for a memorable experience. We will definitely be back and our friends want to join us. read more

Also had a pork fried egg roll which was outstanding. We split the Angelo's salad which was also delicious. My husband had Pesce fried Diablo with homemade pasta. Excellent. This is probably one of the best Italian restaurants I have been to. I've had the rigatoni vodka and the chicken cutlet (over linguini). The fig toast starter was delicious. My husband had the short rib special which was also great. We have not been disappointed with a meal here. It is BYO so make sure to bring a bottle of wine. So why not 4 or 5 stars, Will? Why are you the first schmecklehead to afford this new and vaunted eatery anything less? Well...I care about public health and selfishly, my own health. The lack of PROPER mask wearing by staff is a great concern for me: our server and the busser did NOT have their schnozes covered by their cloth masks, rendering them useless as far as "slowing the spread." I did see one other server wearing the ubiquitous light blue procedure mask with a fully covered face, so kudos to him. While I'm an old soul, I couldn't help but notice the age of our fellow diners skewed older and thus higher COVID risk. As far as the food? Everything was truly good at worst and wonderful at best! Appetizers: -on the advice of Yelp friend Vince, I pulled the trigger on the rice balls/Arancini. They were of perfect consistency: fork tender, a poke of the fork unearthed a center of peas, cheese and I don't know what else, but it was wonderful tasty gooey goodness with a crispy breaded shell. Not much "Sunday gravy" was provided, I wish there was a little more. -squash blossoms: my girlfriend LOVED these and this skeptical critic did as well. The oil in which they're fried is nice and fresh, the inside had ricotta, perhaps even burrata based on the rich creaminess. -Bruschetta: if you dined at the former inhabitant of this address (The slightly pretentiously named Oliver, a Bistro), you'd likely agree that Angelo's iteration of this Italian classic isn't quite up to previous snuff. That being said, the bread on which the fresh mozzarella and tomato rested seemed fresh and had just the right amount of crunch. -Bread + compound butter: I cannot comment on this. It wasn't provided as we "had ordered a lot of food already." Yes I could've asked for it and taken it home or something, but I didn't wish to appear gauche in front of my date. Whatever happened to (as they say at Olive Garden): Hospitaliano!?? Mains: -cacio e peppe: pasta was a perfect al dente and tasted as it should. You'll often find this dish atop clickbait listicles of "what not to order at the Italian restaurant" due to the perceived ease of preparation which in turn lowers the value for the money, something I'm typically all about. However, it's a restaurant, if I wanted a workaurant (shout out to Steak 'n Shake) I'd procure heavy creme, black poivre and Parmigiano-Reggiano to make this at home. It was a winner here. -Short Rib Ragú atop pasta that was like fettuccine but probably another name: this was a special of the day and among the most popular. I can see why! If you love bouef bourguignon (shout out to Julia Child and my Dad) you'll LOVE this and I hope it becomes a menu staple here at Angelo's. Rich flavor of red wine, beefy short ribs, perfectly cooked pasta and creamy cheeses (I believe Parmesan and ricotta). Half of this went home as it's very rich. Dessert: Budino: will definitely order again! My baseline for this is Barbuzzo in Philly. Theirs is a salted caramel flavor, while here at Angelo's there are notes of espresso topped with mystery cookie flakes and a sweet cream. Perfect for sharing! Your stomach won't feel like lead either, a nice plus for dessert The espresso had a nice crema and paired perfectly with the aforementioned Budino. Angelo's passes this must-have of a trattoria with flying colors. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 5:30 reservation on a Thursday and being seated was no problem. No, the outdoor tables aren't all 6 feet apart but that's simply not a feasible reality in areas with limited real estate and I understand that. Angelo's also can't control the numerous mask-free pedestrians walking by on the sidewalk. What can they control? For one, remember drink refills? Especially when it's tap water? It's a nice thing to keep an eye on and a fair barometer of service quality. I had to ask for more water after making a point of passive aggressively leaving my empty water glass at the tables edge. Additionally and more importantly: My hope is their staff can be properly trained in correct mask usage to ensure everyone's safety. Is that too much to ask? Should this even be a controversial thing to say? Unfortunately it is in these times. Let's hope they end soon! I think we all can agree that the "old" normal beats this terribly clichéd "new" one. Being a fan of Ravello and Toscano I had been looking forward to trying Angelo's when I first found out about them opening in the old Oliver's location. Although they've been open a few weeks I couldn't find any listing for them, on Yelp or in general. But yesterday I checked again and found it on Yelp. No recommended reviews yet but a link to their website and a yummy sounding menu was enough to call for a reservation. Bordentown in general has been able to enlarge outdoor dining for all of its restaurants by devoting some parking spots to tables. A few places have set up tents too, and all of them are able to have several tables outside now. Angelo's had about 6 2 seaters and about that many multi diner tables too. All socially distanced. It was a nice set up, and the same can be said for the other places nearby. While I was waiting for my date to arrive I perused the focused menu. The only trouble was that there were about 5 entrees vying for my attention. Not to mention the apps. My decision was made easier when the nights specials were recited, as soon as I heard rabbit bucatini I was sold. My dining companion chose the scallops and we shared the squash blossom and rice ball apps. Out first was a toasted semolina bread with their compounded butter( herbs and walnuts I believe?) very nice but apps quickly took precedence. The blossoms themselves were perfectly done including the filling. But it was served almost dry, the plate had a smear of pistachio lemon honey, but it had mostly dried out. I'm used to this being paired with something savory, tomato or balsamic glaze maybe. The rice balls were better received, a crisp outside with a nice risotto inside, and a blob of mozzarella at the center of each. The orbs were further elevated by the addition of Sunday gravy. A thick and meaty red sauce that I would love to try in an entree. The scallop entree looked great and was a very nice portion, but we both felt the pancetta was overwhelming. It was saltier than bacon and unfortunately overpowered what might have been good NJ scallops. I say might because it was hard to actually taste the huge specimens, which were in fact nicely cooked. The corn and potato mash went well with the dish though. My rabbit was very good. This was advertised as a Chardonnay lemon sauce with mushrooms, and the light citrus flavor went well with the bunny and pasta. The pasta itself was perfect al dente, and leads me to believe that pastas should not be overlooked here. The portion was very generous too, and I'm looking forward to my leftovers. We ended our nice meal with a house made dessert, lemon Tiramisu. This was a lemony take on the old standby, and a very good ending. Service was prompt and professional while also trying to maintain a good distance. Servers and other employees all wore masks. Our reservation was for 5, at that time there was only one other table being used, but as we were leaving it was nice to see at least 3 larger groups and a few other couples also dining. This was a solid dinner even with the few glitches, and I think Angelo's will be a great addition to the Btown dining scene. read more

Do make a reservation, I heard the host answer multiple phone calls and walk ins with "sorry we are completely booked for the evening". The fried calamari appetizer came out hot and crispy, was not rubbery at all. I asked for a small salad to go with dinner and they gladly accommodated. My friend got the Caesar salad and I was a little jealous. It had roasted red peppers, so a little more creative than a usual Caesar salad. Next time I'll get that. The two things I was slightly disappointed with - not many choices of salad dressing, and our bread was nothing special. I had previously read reviews mentioning the bread but ours was not as good as the bread at Ravello. You can't go wrong with any home made pasta. It's fresh and delicious. The scallop entree with corn hash was spectacular. Unfortunately it wasn't on the menu the 2nd visit. I opted for the chicken cutlet which is made with vodka sauce rather than the traditional red. From now on thars how I'm ordering chicken parmesan. Served over hone made pasta. Bravo! Service all around was attentive but not rushed, even when we ordered coffee and a slice of wonderful lemon cake for dessert. Looking forward to the next dinner there. read more

Lovely little restaurant with very good food. Lots of choices - some unusual. I have never heard of pork chop parmigiana but they do it! We had a few appetizers to start...zucchini flowers stuffed with mascarpone were very tasty, mussels were good and the burrata stack (which was a special) was delish. Caesar salad and arugula salad were shareable. Dinners were delicious - chicken parm with gnocchi (yum), pork chop pizzaiola, shrimp with bucatini in sherry cream sauce with asparagus and sun dried tomatoes, and stuffed veal with mozzarella and fontina cheese. We packed up our meals cause we had to have dessert which was zabaione with berries, a pear tart with pistachio gelato and a dark chocolate espresso mousse...SO GOOD!! We shared for appetizers the toast (whipped ricotta with honey and pistachios) and zucchini blossom that was battered and fried with ricotta, mozzarella with this delicious sauce. I got the chicken cutlet, which was with mozzarella cheese and vodka sauce that came with gnocchi, SO delicious!!! My mother got the special ravioli which she gave me 2 and it was delicious, my father basically licked his plate clean (I forgot what he got but he enjoyed it) my boyfriend got the chicken saltimboca which he's had years ago at toscano and enjoyed. Angelo's has a winning combination of delightful food with realistic pricing. Six of us went on I believe a Wednesday evening and they offered a prix fixe menu that was too good to pass up. For $30 you get more food than you could possibly eat. Thank goodness for doggie bags because both of us couldn't come close to finishing it. Service was very good. My husband and I are mystified by the high reviews this restaurant has received because while the staff were nice, and the atmosphere amid the sidewalk seating was rewarding, all four dishes that we ordered were bland, tasted bad, or had strange, incongruent flavors. We ordered the crab rice ball special, which contained "fishy" crab and a potent herbal overtone that overpowered the dish and created a disgusting chemical-like flavor, resulting in a colossal failure. The stuffed zucchini special was admissible because the vodka sauce was properly seasoned for taste, but the zucchini itself was mediocre. My husband ordered strange pulled ribs with gravy that was mixed with a lasagna noodle and peas concoction. It just was odd, flavorless, and disappointing. My dish was a very overpriced tilefish special wherein it was supposed to be cooked franchise style, yet it did not have the expected buttery broth--or any broth. The fish itself was of a high quality and similar to Chilean sea bass in texture, flaking easily, but the sweet pea risotto was an abomination--maybe the first time I haven't likened risotto in my entire life--and it ruined the dish. I ate half my meal and, due to the price, took the rest home where I added black pepper, red pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder to make the dish enjoyable. I shouldn't have had to pay almost $50 for a bad-tasting dish and then had to fix it with seasoning when I got home. By the way, our waitress pushed the tilefish dish (of course, because we learned later that it was $46,) saying that it was delicious, but I cannot believe that anyone who has eaten the bed of sweet pea risotto with it could honestly make that remark. I noticed that she didn't ask if we enjoyed our meals afterward--probably because, knowing the actual flavor of each dish, she was afraid that we would say that we didn't. She got her bigger tip, though. If my husband and I weren't blessed enough to have had fine dining in the past to have known the difference between good food and interesting presentations of food, perhaps we would have been impressed by the creative combination of flavors, revering their strangeness with a blind trust that fooled us into believing that what we didn't understand what must have belonged to some higher order of food knowledge, but we were aware that this place was trying but not actually creating good food. Took my daughters out for Valentine's Day since their dad is deployed, I was so excited after reading the reviews and posts about this location and I usually explore Bordentown with my littles and we love most of the shops and restaurants here. Here are my notes: Rating :1/5 Seated by the door in winter with 2 kids they are teens (other diners were offered seating options, we were not) No arancini balls for Valentine's Day (website menu does not reflect in person menu) No kids friendly menu Food looks beautiful when out....however. Taste not so good. Steak was horrible my daughter asked for well and got rare (she couldn't eat her meal) and the sauce was not suitable for the steak and shrimp so bitter. meatballs had the consistency of wet bread. Either too much bread crumbs, the meat was over handled, cooked to long. the lasagna is just cheese soup, it's so cheesy and watery The waitress was so sweet, if it wasn't for her we would have just left. It gives a vibe that this is a locals only kind of spot so only the best service goes to them. If you don't know the manager your on your own. I will say that at least they took the steak and shrimp off as she had one bite that spit right back onto the plate. Even other diners were critical about the taste of the food. I'm never negative about any food place and again the waitress was lovely and the servers great but we were there for the food and that did not give, especially for Valentine's Day. read more

If I ever go to a restaurant more than once, that speaks volume to how good the place is! Been to several Italian restaurants all over the country and have always found that this place in Bordentown has been the best Italian food. It's sister location Toscano is also fantastic and a must try as well. read more
