Massimo's Cucina is nestled away in a strip mall just off Route 33 in Robbinsville. I hadn't made it around to this place since the area has a pizzeria or Italian eatery in almost every shopping plaza, with specialty pizza shops like Marcello's Pizza Grill & tomato pie greats like Delorenzos & Papa's less than a few minutes drive away. The desire to try out a new spot in the area that served up the more traditional round pie led me here. Although I stopped in for take out, they have a decent dining area between the tables inside and the outdoor patio area. I went with a standard cheese pizza and an order of garlic knots. The garlic knots (3.25/5) were a bit on the smaller side, but served in a nice portion size with a decent garlic kick to them. The large cheese pizza (3.5/5) was a small notch above the central New Jersey average, with the dough, sauce, & cheese coming together for a nice pizza experience, although I did have to sprinkle on some spices to add to the flavor profile a bit. Service (4/5) while picking up was friendly, although slightly slow at first since the guy at the counter was initially fixated on his phone for a bit. Overall, I'd rate Massimo's a 3.5/5 pizza experience, and don't mind rounding up since Yelp doesn't allow half stars and menu prices were fairly reasonable. While I'm not sure I'd choose Massimo's over other pizza competitors in the Robbinsville/Hamilton area, it's still a decent option should you find yourself looking for a more traditional round pizza experience. read more

Horrible management and extremely rude staff. The customer service was disappointing from start to finish. The chicken had a strong chemical odor, which was very concerning, and when it arrived it was still pink and severely undercooked. When I brought the issue to their attention, there was little concern or effort made to resolve it. Food safety should be a top priority, and serving undercooked chicken is unacceptable. Between the poor quality of the food, the lack of professionalism, and the overall experience, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are several other places in the Robbinsville area that offer much better food, service, and value for your money. read more

Let's start with the food - it has all the Pizza and specials you would expect from a true Italian restaurant. 1) Let's start with the Pizza - I've had pizza all over the US and this is one of the tops. The sauces is from beautiful San Marzano tomatoes with touches of garlic and basil. Mozzarella is home made. With a great crust... the pizza is tops in NJ. 2) They have a wood burning stove and that allows them to make small individual pies. The taste is just like the ones we had in Italy. My friend picked me up 2 slices of pizza from here one white pizza with broccoli and tomatoes, and one red square pizza with basil and a sesame crust. The white pizza with broccoli and tomatoes was good! The red square pizza which they call Coppa was delicious! It was definitely the winner of the two. The red sauce was so flavorful and tasty! This food was so tasty... I'm not sure if it were because I was starving and super stressed, but it hit the spot. Enough where I might drive 30 mins just to get their pie and calamari. Their sausage pizza was banging. The sauce had just the right amount of sweetness that balances out the saltiness of the cheese and meat. The dressing with the Caesar Salad was weird and tasted more like Ranch, and there wasn't anything special about the salad. It was mainly just large pieces of lettuce, croutons, and grated Parmesan cheese. I also ordered an appetizer portion of eggplant, and I was pleasantly surprised by how big it was. Unfortunately, the taste was underwhelming. The mozzarella was like rubber, the eggplant seemed to be frozen and flavorless, and the tomato sauce was very bland. The ricotta inside of the eggplant was thick and didn't flow with the dish. The highlights of the meal were the side of bread that came with the eggplant and the croutons from the salad. The restaurant is fine if you are in a jam and need something to eat, but shouldn't be considered for a regular place to order or top notch food. Ate here recently and my experience was OK. I ended up ordering the Carcerato (a margherita pizza with ricotta in crust, basically), and I was kind of disappointed by it. First, only two pieces had ricotta in the crust - maybe that's normal, but given the menu description, I was expecting the whole pizza to have a stuffed crust. Also, the pizza wasn't too flavorful, including the ricotta. It wasn't bad or anything, but there are plenty of other pizza places nearby with better pizza. We were served some bread with our meals, which tasted pretty good, but the packaged butter was cold and super hard to spread. I tried some of my wife's pasta and it was better than the pizza, so I guess I'd recommend ordering a pasta dish. Overall, I may eat here again, but there are a lot of excellent Italian restaurants in the area, so I'm not sure when that'll be. read more

A night following work when my wife and I could not agree on a food group. Driving along Rte 33 it dawned on her that Massimo's was next door to Ploy Siam, this way we could both get something we wanted. Unfortunately, Ploy Siam was closed as it was Monday. So I had no other options. Ended up being a good scenario as it was my first time. We were greeted and sat straight away, menus brought over and our server walked us through the specials and my wife's questions. He was most engaging, friendly, and helpful. My wife ordered a pasta special with mixed meat (beef/pork) and fusilli pasta. This was a really good dish. Full flavor due to the meat mix and the pasta was cooked to perfection-- not limp, and not al Dante. But as the Goldilocks said, "just right." I ordered the grillata salad and added grilled chicken To my surprise it was truly a nice assortment of grilled veggies, cheese, and other ingredients that you might find in some anti-pasta dishes. The grilled chicken was grilled just right. No joke. Not rubbery as is the case at a local Yardley pizza/salad shop (Carlucci's Express)... that has heightened my taste sensitivity for real grilled chicken on salads as its a staple meal when I can't decide on other dishes. Love places that don't say no and my wife loves a place that knows how to properly cook pasta. I only gave a 3-star review as this was not a full-on entree meal that is more traditional for us. Amazing prices and food at Massimos! Every creation is different than all the others because it is a family recipe. Huge catering menu and a nice sized banquet room that's perfect for under 90 people. The outdoor patio is my favorite and it's never too hot in the summer. The Coppa pie is my favorite ! When you make big claims, you need to deliver a big payoff. Massimo's left their restraint at home the day they decided to describe their Pizza Napoletana. Here's some quotes from their website: "We use the guidelines set out by the Verace Pizza Napoletana Association, the Italian Government & European Union." "Our pizza's are made with San Marzano, a special type of tomatoes that are grown and harvested around from the base of Mount Vesuvius in Naples Italy, Fior di latte Mozzerella and Caputo flour made daily with Natural Mineral Water imported from the Volcanic Region of Naples." "We believe that part of making a real Neapolitan pizza is achieving the charred and blistered crust." Wow. So I had to try it. Would you believe the bottom crust was soggy? Not waterlogged soggy or anything like that. But decidedly soft without the char and structure I have come to crave from a well made pizza being cooked in an 1000 degree wood-burning oven. That said, their white pizza without sauce was actually nicely crispy (as noted by another reviewer). I got the one with arugula and prosciutto. Except it really wasn't the finest arugula as there were a few discolored leaves in the bunch. The place is good. And I give them kudos for trying. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. Plus it's BYOB, which for someone coming from New York is really a big plus. But it's a little out of the way for me. If I'm going to Robbinsville for pizza, I'll be eating at one of those places that specialize in a style that's only found in this corner of the world, instead of this one which makes an earnest attempt at the great pies of Naples. read more

The mixed salad (rating: 3.5/5) was made of fresh ingredients: feta cheese, tomato cherries and romaine lettuce. The italian dressing was already mixed in. The pita bread was fluffy and delicious. The Buffalo chicken, cheese, and also the vegetable pizzas (toppings were broccoli or green peppers, red onions and broccoli; rating: 2.5/5) had a chewy crust. Nevertheless, the crust wasn't crispy. We have visited Massimos several times. The service is awful!!!! The food is just okay. My husband and I walked in this evening into the take out side, we wanted a salad and an appetizer only. They have 5 tables sitting empty on the take out side. It's 5:30pm on a Friday and the owner will not let us eat our salad at the tables. He said it's for Slices only and they are about to get swamped!!!! Absolutely ridiculous!!!! We've been waiting for our salad now for 10 minutes and still not one person has sat at a table.
