The service was not prompt and we had to wave over a manager after 10-15 minutes of sitting with no eye contact from any server. The drinks and bread took way too long to come out also. I always have to find things out for myself, but today I learned that many of these poor reviews were warranted. I ordered a margherita pizzette, a cheesesteak with peppers and onions, and an order of hot wings. The pizza was below average--crust had nice chew, but lacked flavor; sauce was weak; cheese was plasticy; and the chunks of garlic were overwhelming. Threw the leftovers out. The cheesesteak was also mediocre--the bread was too soft, the meat was stringy, and like another reviewer said, there was barely any cheese. The wings were the best part, but they aren't the saucy wings most people think of. They were crunchy and just a little spicy. They were however small. We just wrapped up a birthday dinner for 20 people at Angelo's and I have never been so reluctant to part with my money. When I called to make the reservation the owner was rude and out of line. I looked passed it based on convenience, but after our experience I know I should have followed my instinct. They didn't set tables for our group. Instead they scattered us across the restaurant. And when we suggested a better way to arrange the tables that would keep the adults together (large table for adults and small table for kids), my suggestions was met with 1000 reasons why they couldn't accommodate us, the best one being "table real estate is very expensive." I don't how anyone who owns a business could say that to a customer with a group of 20 people who all ordered full meals. And to add insult to injury, when the bill came I was told an automatic gratuity of 20% was added, but when I looked at the final bill 25% was added to the total (including for tax). With the terrible customer service we received tonight (coupled with expensive, mediocre dinners) we won't be coming and I will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

You can't go wrong here if you're in the mood for italian food. Their pizzas are great, whether you like thin crust, stuffed or sicilian. Big portions on their cheese steaks and grilled veggie sandwiches. During lunch, you order at the pizza counter as they don't have a lunch time wait staff. The man seems to be friendly only to the regulars and everyone else be warned. I really wish that this stubborn man would lighten up, because I love the place. I've been twice now and although it's a nice place with friendly staff the food I've had is just OK. Believe it or not I think it's the tomato sauce. The marinara with my calzone was like tomato soup. The pizza is OK, but not the best by any stretch. I had calamari and the marinara with that was better because I asked for the hot marinara sauce. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! First of all its a BYOB and they have awesome Italian food. Its a bit of a drive for me now that i live close to New Brunswick, but its well worth the 45 minutes when I know what kind of meal and service I will be getting. My family goes here a lot, so by default, so do I. They just did a renovation/addition to the front of the restaurant and it looks very nice. I am not a big fan of the pizza or sandwiches here. I think the pizza is average at best, but I do think they make great meals here. I would like to think that I have had most of, if not all, of the meals on the menu over time. You pretty much can't go wrong with one of the pasta dinners - tortellini bolognese is my favorite. They also have great chicken parm, chicken francaise and lasagna dinners. I really hate giving bad reviews especially when I've only gone one time (which was a few months ago) but don't live near this place. Was working this day in area and YELP'ed places to eat and decided on Angelos for the pizza. I ordered the individual pie and it was so tasteless for the first time in my life I actually added some salt and pepper just to get some flavor. First let me say that they did a great job renovating the place. It stops there. If you want terrible pizza this is the place for it. I was very disappointed in the quality and offended that they would serve such crap. I only gave it a one star because the staff was friendly and because I couldn't go lower. The pizza is very incosistent here. Sometimes it tastes good and is cooked right, other times it tastes like cardboard and is burned black. Sometimes the pizza will have lots of cheese, other times barely any. Its a crapshoot, you never know whats going to come out of the oven. This place has both nice siting area in the back and pizza front. We tried both and I found general non pizza food very good. Not great but definitely worth an occasional trip. Portions are enormous and will leave you full to the brim and totally happy. Now we come to the important part of this review. This place have brick oven and they use it. I ordered several types of pizza here but nothing can beat their famous Margherita brick oven pizza. I mean it is GREAT. Did I mention that it is awesome. Whatever else you do make sure to get one to try for you and your family. Other brick oven pizza is good and not brick oven one are ok but not very remarkable. I frequent Angelo's when im in the area and every time i have a great experience. The food is fantastic and the service is just as great. It's BYOB which is nice when I have dinner with the in-laws and want to have some wine with dinner. Pizza is good, entrees are good, heck, everything is good. They have these garlic rolls that kinda resemble a cinnabun, that are to die for. Perfect amount of garlic and cheese and the sauce is outstanding. I highly recommend anybody looking for a great Italian restaurant to come here. Friday nights are very busy but well worth the wait. read more

Had a fantastic dinner on a recent Sunday evening with a large group. Service was great and the place was very busy. Our food was served Family Style and it was all FABULOUS! I have gone to this resturant since it opened in 1983. Back then it was simply known as Doughboys,now as Angelo's it has an expanded from a mere pizza joint to a delightful dining expierence. Angelo's offers lots of variety from pizza to complex pasta dishes. They have the ability to accomodate small parties and also allow you to bring your own. I feel bad whenever I have to dis a local place but this was the worst pizza I've ever had. Frozen pizza from the supermarket is better. We had a very nice server who was not slow at all. BUT then the pizza came. I got the margherita and my fiance got chicken and basil. His was dripping every time he bit into it. Watery stuff. Not sauce that's for sure. I can give Angelo's the grand prix medal for having served me the worst margherita pizza I have ever had. The crust was thin, but rather flavorless, there was evidence of tomato sauce however it had no flavor at all. They used regular cheap pizza mozzarella so the pizza was covered with grease. I placed a napkin over one slice and it took up enough grease to soak the napkin. There was a wad of dried oregano in the center. When I unknowingly got a piece it was not a pleasant experience. There were 4 1" basil leaves placed on the pizza. There was also an overwhelming taste of raw garlic. From what I know of margherita pizza, and I have eaten a lot, it is tomato sauce, slices of FRESH MOZZARELLA, and a recognizable quantity of basil. It is the best test of whether a place knows how to make pizza because it's so simple, cheap ingredients stand out like a sore thumb. It was dreadful. You will be served a basket of pizza dough masquerading as rolls.Don't be fooled. It's pizza dough. It dining room was pretty depressing and dated and in need of an upgrade. But if I were them I'd start by upgrading the quality of the products they put on a pizza. In two words: NO FLAVOR. Our server noticed I hadn't eaten the pizza and I didn't want to take it home. She asked if it was ok and I just didn't have the heart to complain. It had nothing to do with her, and the damage was done. I'll just never go back there again. read more
