Honestly, I love this place. The Wednesday half price wine nights with life jazzy music is so lovely. Tonight, we had the Al Passo Toscana wine (half price), tomato bruschetta, Caesar salad, cacio e Pepe (with bucatini noodles), and carbonara (w/bucatini). Everything was delicious! We were in our way to a jam night and I needed to find some fun drinks and food. There is not much around those parts but we were so lucky to have found Angelo's Wine bar! We walked in to a fantastic trio playing amazing rock and ballads and were welcomed by the hostess and bartender. We sat at the bar and ordered the burrata pizza, cheese board and I had the most delicious wild strawberry skinny Margarita. I will order that again and again. After awkwardly standing there, without anyone acknowledging us, we were finally seated. It was later on a Friday. and the staff seemed busy, so we didn't think twice about it then. It took a good amount of time before our server came. Again, it was busy so we didn't overthink it. We ordered drinks and food immediately. And got our drinks in a reasonable amount of time. Our food came out right after and I was surprised by how small the portion sizes were for the price. We ordered the carbonara with shrimp and there were 4 burnt shrimp on top. I'm surprised they let it out of the kitchen that way. Not what we were expecting considering you also had to pay $8 up charge for the shrimp. (We could have said something, but didn't want to make waves and it took awhile for our server to check on us so we decided to let it go.). The carbonara tasted more like a glorified macaroni & cheese. We also ordered the seafood fettuccine which had 3 large shrimp and 2 1/2 scallops. It was ok, but the flavor was lacking something. We were staying in walking distance and our hosts recommended. First, it was Black so Friday and so not a busy night so the staff was extra attentive which made us feel like family. It was candlelit and cozy but if super busy could see it as loud. Many TVs which are not my thing but I couldn't hear them. The Outdoor seating in nice weather looks like amazing space. GiGi the manager and sommelier was also our server for the night. We chatted several times and she made great recommendations. My husband ordered a glass of wine but I tried the wine flight and it was fun! The wines in red are on the menu are the five wines it comes with. The menu is varied in prices with less expensive sharing plates to more expensive entrees. We had the arinicni (incredible) and stuffed mushrooms (average). We shared the Angelo's pizza special (this crust) which was delicious. They had three kinds of pizza. Thin crust, traditional and Chicago deep dish. Watched bartender pour last of bottle into the jigger, then look around when bottle didn't fill measure. He then reached down and filled rest with well bourbon. DELICIOUS! Absolutely terrifically delicious! We stumbled upon this place after a few reviews from a good friend and man am I disappointed that we didn't come sooner. There is a wide variety of food options on the menu so you can make it as cheap or as expensive as you'd like. But let me tell you, the flavors are incomparable. I'm not a huge lover of Arancini but I find myself craving them plus the terrific sauce served with it. Highly recommend getting that plus the burrata caprese. We started with the arancini which was pretty good but a little bland. The sauce under the arancini was very tasty. My wife also got the Mediterranean salad and said it was delicious. We got the cacio e Pepe and the pappardelle with Bolognese. I really enjoyed both but my wife thought the Bolognese was a bit sweet for her taste. Totally surprised by this experience, this restaurant has a River North or West Loop feel. Friendly greeting and beautifully laid out restaurant, I was also amazed by the 70s and 80s music, coupled with classic Black and While films on all of the flat screens. As for the food, the generous portions will make you lament your calorie counting or futile workouts. The servings are that big and the food is great!! The calamari pieces were so satisfying, I would recommend serving the giardiniera on the side - for maximum crispness. The cheesey fundido with sausage was incredible!! You'll be tempted to BYOB (bring your own baguette), it's that good. My skillet was really full of meat and the star of the show was really the pizza - the sweet (fig), cheese, prosciutto (salty) and arugula (peppery) on top of that crispy cracker crust made it an instant favorite of mine. And yes, I ate the 1,500 calorie beignets in one fell swoop. I see that they also have an outdoor seating area - hope to be back soon. read more

Hostess spent more time on other peoples dog than she did ok us. Waiting over a hour for our food and didn't get it until we complained. Other people who came in later than us got their food before us which confused me. They didn't seem super apologetic and tried to make it seem like we were waiting super long. It was 90% fried bread crumbs and 10% actual calamari. The slow service was almost unbearable, with my elderly father actually suggesting that I post this review. The burger & fries were mediocre at best. The fries were room temperature & soggy. The pizza was also very soggy and barely warm, telling me that our food had been waiting for way too long. My elderly father ordered his meat to be medium well and his meat came out PINK. We wanted to support a local business and it backfired horribly, resulting in a 2+ hour unsatisfactory dinner for just 3 people. Please do better. Such a disappointment. read more

Though there wasn't much goat cheese, it was absolutely delicious. Probably the best I've ever had. I had my heart set on the pasta carbonara but when I saw the restaurant has a fresh made fried chicken and macaroni dish I caved and got that instead. The chicken was delicious and well seasoned, the homemade Coleslaw was great, but the Mac and cheese was completely bland and devoid of flavor. I kind of regret not ordering the pasta. Maybe next time! My dining companion ordered the meatballs and he enjoyed them. Prior to getting the bill I had some pleasant drinks and ordered my husband a pizza to go, with the advance warning the pizzas take 30 mins. When Gigi the waitress told us it was last call, I realized why Gigi had an annoyed look on her face as to why we ordered a pizza so close to closing. We had no idea they closed that early, being that we had a late reservation! Overall, it was a good experience. I'll definitely be back. This is one of our go-to places and I'm so happy to have it in the neighborhood! It's been nice for getting more upscale food delivered. I also really enjoy going in for the ambiance. There is a massive bar in the middle; warm, rustic timber; cozy tables and huge, front windows that fold open on a beautiful day. They usually have old movies playing silently on the TVs. I've found all the waitstaff and bartenders to be friendly, professional and attentive. Some items on the menu are a miss, but several are quite good. We enjoy the three different kinds of calamari, the burrata pizza, the cauliflower and the fig & prosciutto pizza. We've brought our kids in for an early dinner but there's no kids menu and it's definitely more suited to adults and date nights. I definitely recommend checking out Angelo's! read more

It is hateful to see people lie and I don't understand why they don't want to seat customers where they want to sit especially if there is no one else in the place. As for the food, we had avocado toast: the brioche was thick, light and fluffy - though it should have been warm. And I don't care for several slices of fresh jalapeños on my breakfast Avocado Toast.
