We had drinks at Konak and that's all I have had here. This is one of the "overflow" bars to head to if Hopleaf is ultra-crowded (and usually it is). The TV was showing some international soccer matches, which is a plus for me. I hear the pizza is not bad, so perhaps I'll give it a try next time.

Spinach and Cheese dough boat. Plenty for 2 people to split and on special for $7 on Saturdays!

After having lived in Andersonville for over a year I finally got around to checking out Konak. The space is bigger than I imagined and the secluded pool table area in the back is a nice touch. The beer list is definitely sub par, but the prices are really good for the beers they have. The wife and I were there on a Friday night so we got to split the $7 doughboat special which was a great price for how big the thing was (see pic in gallery). The flavor wasn't jumping off the plate by any means, but it was still tasty and something that you can't get anywhere else in the neighborhood. I'm excited to get back to Konak and play a game of pool soon!

My favorite spot for a lowkey karaoke night on Fridays. Very friendly owners and non-judgemental crowd

So much more than "the place you go to when Hopleaf is full." Let's get real, folks, Hopleaf ain't all that.

Speaking of the bar, I got myself a pint of the Golden Road Mango Cart, which did have a fragrance of mangoes. I was a bit annoyed the bartender asked for my ID thinking I was a high schooler (I guess white people in Chicago generally don't have any meaningful relationship with Asians compared to other major cities because this wasn't a one time thing - and I've been to a lot of cities), but at least he tried to smooth it out with a joke. Fine, moving on. I got myself a personal deep dish pizza, since this joint is known for their caramelized crust, although I did wish I got myself a small instead so I can have it delivered in the pan itself. Maybe next time, but I did eat the whole thing. The sauce was more on the bitter and acidic side. The toppings aren't layered and hiding underneath cheese like some other places, which is fine, but I did think it could've used more mushrooms and a more even distribution of toppings considering how thick the bread is. Overall it was worth going out of my way to try it once, as it was highly recommended to me, I'd say it takes #2 so far of all the pizza places I've tried in Chicago. Granted, I didn't have time or didn't come with anyone to share a bunch of things, but maybe next time.

They push the Mediterranean Bread, and honestly, you should let them. It's enormous, blistered, fragrant, and arrives like a hot air balloon made of carbs. More importantly, it gives you something genuinely delicious to tear into while you wait for the pizza pot pies to emerge from whatever subterranean chamber they're baked in. It's both a starter and a survival tool. A reservation is non‑negotiable unless you enjoy contemplating your own mortality in a weekend crowd. The wait times can stretch so long you could starve to death before your name is called -- and the regulars will nod knowingly as they step around your skeleton. Plan ahead. The salads are comically oversized, the kind of portions that make you wonder if they're meant for a family of four or a single very determined marathon runner. But let's be honest: no one is here for lettuce. We're all here for the pizza pot pie, that molten, bread‑wrapped, cheese‑laden dome of joy that defies every attempt at categorization. It's not deep dish, it's not thin crust -- it's its own thing entirely, and that's the point. This is the place you bring out‑of‑town guests when you want to show them something uniquely Chicago without defaulting to the usual deep‑dish suspects. But it's also the place you come back to on your own, because once you've had that pizza pot pie, it lives rent‑free in your brain until you return.
