Came back to my hometown for some family stuff and stumbled across this amazing little diner. Best vodka soda I've had in a while and the servers were awesome. As far as diners go, it doesn't get any better than this little dive. I was driving cross country and was looking for a late lunched so I yelped restaurants in Mcallister. This was the nearest to our locale so we gave it a shot - it was a bullseye. The diner is decorated in 1950's theme, lots of pink and black with numerous Elvis sightings. As far as seating, it is a mixture of tables and booths as well as a bar with stools that are situated in front of the grill. All the cooking is done out on a flat grill behind the counter so you can see and smell all the deliciousness as it happens. It also gives you a good view of the staff working together - which they all seemed to be enjoying their jobs and helping each other. Now for the food: Fried mushrooms were freshly made - no prepackaged throw in the oven shrooms - these are the real deal. Freshly battered and fried to perfection. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Better cut them open because they are gonna burn your mouth if you just pop one in. I think they were the best I ever had - wife thinks they are a close second to Eskimo Joes. She can write her own review. I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with cream gravy and green beans served with a roll. This is not a steak the size of Texas like most places serve - half of which turns out to be breading. This one only covered about 1/3 of the plate. At first glance, I was a little disappointed. But after one bite I decided what it lacked in size it made up for in taste. By the time I was finished, I decided this was the best chicken fries I've ever had. The meat wasn't beat paper thin so it was actually a substantial offering of beef. The roll was incredible, wishing I had another one even as I write this review. Probably going to be dreaming about it tonight. The rest of my meal was very good as well. Wife had the steak fingers and my daughter had the chicken strips. Both were excellent. I had a couple chicken strips from my daughters plate when she wasn't looking. They also served a variety of desserts which nearly everyone was eating. I opted out because I still had eight hours of driving left for the day but would love to try the red velvet cake next time around. In a nutshell, the service was average in speed but super friendly and attentive. The food was all fresh, hot and delicious so obviously it took a little longer than your big chain places to prepare but the wait is well worth it. It's a legitimate diner - ie, they are in business to serve good food with a smile and they did a great job. If you are driving anywhere near Mcallister - take the four mile jaunt off the turnpike and eat a Angels. read more

Placing the to go order was difficult and the lady was rude. I get there and the man working inside he grill was friendly and greeted me as I walked in but the person behind the register wasn't terribly friendly. I had asked on the phone if they had fresh green beans. She said yes. So I chose that for the side with my BLT. I get my order relatively quickly and check it. It's the tiniest side of canned green beans. Also on my check I was charged for them. I bring this up to the lady and she said it's an up charge and I explained that it said it came with a side. She just walked off in a haste to cont helping her table. I ask to add a drink to it and she leaves again to attend her table. Then I tell her there is no plastic ware or ketchup for 4 burgers and fries. So she grabs those. Then I I have to ask for the drinks again. Another girl made the drinks. Then she finally comes back with my check and I pay and then get to the car and realize is still had the $3 charge for tiny canned green beans. So I go back in. Then another lady helped me. Super nice lady. Very accommodating and didn't take 3 times to explain it to her for her to understand. And she said the other girl was new and apologized Even though I never said anything about her. She just knew that the other girl was incompetent and rude I'm sure. Just making up that "it's an upcharge" because you don't want to deal with trying to figure out how to take the charge off is what really got to me. Having been in the restaurant industry for 24 years. I don't think new girl is going to make it y'all. They also had a help wanted sign up. It was a real bummer because we were on a 6 hour trip. I was co pilot and spent about an hour at looking at restaurants we would be passing to get a to go order. I wanted it to be delicious. Finally chose this place. Portion sizes were not generous. Fries were good but more of a standard fry than what I think shoe string fries are. Kids burgers were a little dry. The blt was good but by the time I got my drinks, my plastic ware and the charges fixed on my check my toast wasn't toast anymore, No ventilation in the boxes so the food just steams things you want to be crispy. Fried green tomatoes are of the frozen pre packaged variety. And the green beans are straight out of a can with no flavor haha. Those damn green beans! It wasn't terrible food but not worth the price or the rudeness. I recommend you go in and eat at least and don't do Togo. They had cute shirts and I was tempted to buy one but over priced. read more

I love diners and Angel's did not disappoint me. I was immediately greeted by three different people when I walked in, and my waitress offered me a drink before I had settled at my table. As far as the food is concerned, it's diner food. If you're looking for gourmet, go elsewhere. It was all you could expect from a diner. The portions were large, the prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was delightful. If I am ever in McAlester again, I will definitely eat at Angel's. Super cute place! Maybellines chunk chicken was very good. I didn't care for the fries..a little to thin for me but I know some ppl like them that way. The staff was very friendly. We were there close to closing but never felt rushed. Two of the cooks asked us how everything was as well as two of the servers. This diner ended up being 50s themed mana from heaven. Today was definitely not one of Angel's better lunch hours. We arrived at 11:45 AM. The diner was not even 1/4 full. We were immediately greeted and seated. A friendly server came to take our drink and food order. Then the eternally long wait began. I order a regular hamburger. My husband ordered meatloaf and two veggies. The cook must not be able to multi-task. I was sitting where I could see the line cook. He could only cook and prepare one item at a time. Really? The hamburger patties are precooked, the meatloaf is already cooked, as are the side veggies, and apparently so are the French fried since mine arrived cold. So what took do long? The server didn't know. She mentioned something about a load of chicken fried steaks being lost, but the grill cook wasn't looking for that! There was a woman helping fry foods, but maybe they aren't normally the ones getting out orders. I hate to think how terribly long the wait would have been if the diner had been actually busy like it usually at noon. I love this cute 1950's diner and hope they correct the problems before we come back through town on our way home to Dallas. read more

We ate lunch at Angel's on a Sunday at 11am and was pretty crowded but we were able to get a table immediately. They do have a Sunday special if you are in a hurry. They appear to have a large after church crowd. We were not in a hurry so no problem. Very fun decor. Elvis and Marilyn. Pink walls. Very friendly wait staff. My husband ordered the old fashion hamburger and fries and I ordered chicken fried steak off the Golden Oldies smaller portion part of the menu. Both were very good. Best diner food we have had in years. We had a burger and a philly with fries and onion rings. More than we could eat. It was so good that not only did we tip the server well but we also tipped the cook directly on our way out. That says something when just out grabbing a burger. I was driving through McAlester looking for a place right off the interstate to eat dinner. For a Diner this is very good. The burgers are so juicy and cooked perfect, my fries were also perfect, not soggy at all. Had homemade banana pudding to finish it off and it was yummy too!! Fun atmosphere and awesome decor. All the food is tasty but nothing to write home about. They were constantly cleaning and saw great precautions with food prep. The juke box is free and has great a classic selection. Overall a great grease joint that does have a few healthy selections. I would totally recommend the chicken wrap. Very nice restaurant in a small town. I was traveling from Dallas,TX to Tulsa,OK and decided to stop here for lunch. All the dishes which I tried on that day were very good. I also tried the meatloaf but felt a bit disappointed with it. The taste was somewhat different from the other meat loafs which I had tried in Dallas. Also they had cakes for dessert but they were a bit pricey. I paid 5$ for a single slice of chocolate cake. Liked the interior decor of the restaurant. On the outside this place looks like a throw-back from the 1950's, so you'll be prepared that the inside is that way too. I was tempted to take a selfie in the men's room with the very artistic privacy divider in the background but chickened out. Speaking of chicken, I ordered the lean angus burger -- it was nicely grilled. It was served with the traditional iceberg lettuce and tomato. If these sides weren't authentic I'd complain because I hate iceberg lettuce - with a passion. The shoe-string fries were hot and salty and couldn't stop myself from devouring them. I ordered a HUGE, like in Texas-sized, carrot cake that was loaded with fruit and nuts and coconut. Being the good husband that I am, I took half of this home to my wife. Very solid diner with quality food and friendly service. Offers all the classic fried diner foods, all made in-house--nothing frozen here! They had enough fried food offerings to rival the State Fair of Texas (fried chicken, fried okra, chicken fried steak, French fries, fried avocado, fried jalapeños, etc). Chicken fried steak was excellent--I watched them hand batter the steak. The French fries were thin, though not quite shoe string, crispy and flavorful. We enjoyed the off-menu fried avocado (best way to describe it is fried guacamole with queso). And of course, the apple pie and blackberry cobbler were outstanding. However, while waiting for our food, I was looking around and watching the cooks. They were making my club sandwich and we're NOT wearing gloves!!! GROSS!!!! My second visit to this " greasy spoon". First time it was ok just had a bowl of stew and a grilled cheese sandwich. Now on to the second visit. Last night. 9/8/15. My co-worker and I ordered steaks both were over cooked. The baked potato was cook early in the day and re-cooked before we ordered. Service was ok. Pretty good food here. Exactly what you would expect from a diner. Really my only complaint is the appetizers are insanely expensive. I don't know if they don't want people to order from them, so they price them high but they are more expensive than most entrees on the menu. Went there for dinner last night around 6:30. I have eaten there many times with few problems but last night my mom and husband ordered the 6oz sirloin steak, and I ordered the steak finger basket. We all had Dr Pepper. The soda was flat, the steaks were dry and the waitress didn't even ask how they wanted them cooked. I asked if they got bread with their meal. The waitress said "I think we are out". No adjustment on our bill. The food took forever, and it was a bad experience. I won't set in the bar area again. I feel like we were forgotten in there. Very friendly staff, fun 50's style dinner with juke box music playing. The Rueben sandwich was tasty and the chocolate mousse pie was good for dessert. Angel's has the food options and atmosphere that are hard to find in Southern Oklahoma. I love the charm. Through my old job, I was able to get to know Angel and her parents. She is a very sweet, genuine person. Love seeing her around the restaurant. Sometimes the other staff can be unattentive, though, so service is hit and miss. Prices vary from fair to a little high depending on what you order. I love the food, though, and like that some of the choices are hard to find. Best fried pickles I've ever had - they are spears not coins. It's always hard to decide between those and the fried green beans. I usually order steak fingers or chicken tenders - both are hand-breaded and delicious! I have also had their breakfast, and it's probably my favorite in town... I just wish the location were more convenient for me to stop by more often. Awesome people and awesome diner! read more

Stopped here for breakfast based off reviews...wasn't good. My husband said the men's restroom had fly strips! If you order water (and you're not from here) beware...it tastes like straight up dirt. Order took a long time...longer than breakfast should ever take....biscuits are cold and not homemade and the gravy isn't either. We won't bee going back. read more
