First time here. Last time here. Service was HORRIBLE. If you're a server and you are in the weeds, don't take a table and go on a wait. If you are a manager, pick up a table!!! A delightful find! After being on the road for nine hours and three yet to go, I did not want fast food. This diner is cute and cheery! Staff is welcoming friendly and attentive. The food was good! I had a chopped steak topped with piles of grilled mushrooms, onions & peppers - delicious. The salad was green & good and I suspect a homemade dressing. We live in Texas and stopped at this little gem on our way home and we just kept talking about how much we enjoyed the meal as we drove off! I had the steak finger basket and as a southern girl that loves her chicken fried steak, I have only had these scrumptious little devils rivaled by my mother's fried steak and Buddies steak fingers in Andrews, Texas. I savored every bite dredged in cream gravy coupled with terrific fries and even topped it off with hot blackberry cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream! My boyfriend had the Duke of Earl sandwich and raved about it. The bun was buttered and grilled to perfection! Even the tomatoes were "real" tomatoes with flavor rather than pale pink tasteless sandwich fodder. Montana runs the front of the house like a worker bee champion! She flashes her bright smile backed up with genuine friendliness. She makes sure everyone is cared for and happy but does it in a very non-intrusive manner. This was a heck of a stop! Note: I know how to cook and recognize good food and service! If you have read rave reviews before only to find the food to be mediocre, rest assured, that is not the case at Angel's Diner! During a recent trip to McAlester, we decided to swing in to Angels Diner and are so glad we did!!! Firstly - it's just fun! Set-up as an old school 50's diner. You could almost imagine James Dean leaning against the counter or Marilyn swooping in for a strawberry milkshake! The ambiance promises fun and flair before you even get to your seat! Our server Lucas was FANTASTIC. Our drinks were never empty, he was knowledgeable, super friendly, engaged and went above and beyond in meeting our needs. The food was so darn good. Soul stirring, stomach filling coma inducing food! We had been hiking all day and were starving. My husband ordered the infinity pancakes - a nonstop roll of three pancakes stacked high. They were fluffy, and smothered in butter and warm syrup. I had the Cobb salad - a huge bed of greens with generous portions of chicken, bacon and egg and house ranch that was so flavorful and delicious. My kiddos had onions rings and fried pickles on top of their BLT and chicken friend steak. There wasn't a single thing we would have changed. Ice cold drinks, wonderful service and excellent food. I wish Angel's was closer to Oklahoma City - we would be regulars for sure! As the regular diners came in, the cooks and staff greeted them by name and even if they didn't know you, you received a hearty welcome as you entered. Lucas deserves a hearty helping of kuddos for his care and attention to our family and the others he served. We couldn't have asked for a better ending to our evening. First the staff ..... amazing . They pull together as a team and get it done. So technically u have like 3 waitresses... which is a great thing ... Second the food. .... It was hands down ,... real homemade food. Not like chilis and apple bees ... freezer dried garbage. I'm a super picky eater being a chef myself, and their ck fried steak was like I cooked it myself. ... perfection ... Third the ambience .... I will post some pictures of the welcome sign out front .. but it's old Hollywood royalty themed . Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley . Which makes it even cooler ...all the way down to the restrooms . When traveling back and forth to KC, Angel's, I have found to be, is the go-to place for lunch in McAlester. The hamburgers are a solid 1/2 to 3/4 pound of hand breaded ground meat, & there are many different, yet excellent, combinations to dress the burger. Salads, chili, soups, are solid and have been enjoyed. Staff is very friendly and prompt. This place seems to have a local following and therefore it can be crowded on the weekends. Stopped in for breakfast after my work shift while I'm working in town. Ordered a simple breakfast of two eggs, two strips of bacon with homestyle potatoes, and biscuit and gravy. There was a morning rush, so it took about 30min to get my order. But the food was delightful! Eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon was crispy, the potatoes were crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The biscuit was light and fluffy with a nice flaky crust. The gravy was seasoned well and a nice addition to give the rest of the meal a delicious bite. Great meal at a great price! read more

Really disappointing. My sister and I stopped coming home from our Arkansas trip and we were better off eating food from a gas station. Only the front half of the diner is "50's" themed. All the decor looks like it's from Hobby Lobby or Amazon. Staff sat us in a back room that had NOTHING to do with the 50's theme just some tables and chairs with a picture of James Dean in the back. Wow, so impressive. I ordered French Toast and it was horribly burnt, also was served Hungry Jack syrup!??! My sisters pancakes were awful and tasted like they were at the very bottom of the freezer!! Honestly just keep driving and stop at McDonald's or something. Small, quaint, old style diner. Local flare and flavors. The waitress was a local and sweet as could be. Got everything we needed, and with a smile. I had the Angels Chili and a Patty Melt. Both were very good. I liked that when the cili came, she asked me which hot sauce I wanted and listed off at least three. They happened to have one of my favs so that was cool. If I had to fault something, I'd say the service was a bit slow. I noticed a couple of tables that had what were certainly "regular" customers came in after us and received their food before us. We stopped here on our way back to Texas and was intrigued by the 50's theme. The diner was very busy but we were warmly greeted by several of the staff. The diner is very cute with 50's themed decor and even an old jukebox. The menu was extensive with all the comfort food you expect from a diner. We had fried mushrooms as appetizer, chicken chunks, and chicken fried steak dinner, all of which were hand breaded and absolutely delicious. The table across from us had 4 people and they got there and ordered 15 minutes after us and they were done eating and left 15 minutes before we got our food. We had to takeout food to go. We got seated quickly and got our orders done at a good pace. The menu had good options and the names were really fun. I love the 60s more retro vibe of this place. They had good music playing throughout and it had a pretty comfortable atmosphere. We both got burgers, we ordered some wings, and fried pickles. The burger, to me, was massive. It's very filling. It tasted really good. The one we got had thick cut bacon on it which was a bit hard to chew. The other thing was the fried pickles were spears so a pickle cut into 4ths which I personally didn't like. The wings tasted alright they weren't anything really special. They had basic buffalo sauce on them which was good, but nothing to go crazy over. Regardless, the food was really good and I do recommend going here though. read more

The decor seemed to be done by someone who wanted to get a 50's vibe going, but just managed to scrounge up a yard sale full of some generic and tacky Elvis Presley & Marilyn Monroe decorations. The building was a little run down and musty. It felt more like Breaking Bad than Happy Days My server was prompt, but weirdly timid. Not like he was shy, but more like he was genuinely afraid of me. Kinda weird. Food and drinks came out within a reasonable time. The Coke I ordered was a little flat. The meatloaf meal was underwhelming. The meatloaf itself tasted like it was out of a package and had been heated in the microwave. The gravy was room temperature at best. The portion sizes were childlike. Two of those meals would have constituted on normal meal. The staff was friendly-ish. I was greeted when I walked in the door. I hadn't even finished my meal before I was given my check. There was no inquiry about whether or not I wanted dessert. Verdict: if you are literally starving to death and there is no other place open and the highway is devoid of roadkill, this place will do okay. Otherwise just go somewhere else. read more
