The Horchata comes in a giant mug, the corn chips were nice and thin and perfectly salty, and the back patio offers a good amount of shade. I hate to be negative but I really disliked Angels Mexican Kitchen. First off, we ordered guacamole. It was good. But we asked for flour chips and they CHARGED us for the chips. We're we supposed to eat the guacamole with our hands. And to boot, the chips were not good. The original corn chips they gave us were inedible. Worse than the cheapest store bought chips. I ordered two cheese enchiladas on their combination menu. The food was cold. The beans were warm, but not hot. So the fact the enchiladas were cold, the cheese wasn't really melted all the way. Not good. My husband said his food was just ok. The bill for 2 people was $49 dollars and change. Pretty pricey. Other than the food all we had was a soda and a cup of coffee. The waitress was ok. She never came to see how everything was. We had been there before and it was just ok. I forgot that when I picked this restaurant or I would not have gone there. Then she dropped off the couples food from other table. Then she comes up to me and says there's a confusion on my order, and asked what did I order. This spot is a hidden gem! Free chips and the fresh salsa are a plus. Ordered the cazuela and it was delicious! Plenty of shrimp, chicken and steak sitting on top of beans and the extra plus was the fresh chorizo! Just the perfect amount of spice! I went with my husband, granddaughter, guide, dog, Giorgio and myself here yesterday, and it was so good!! My granddaughter had a big plate of nachos with sweet tea. We attempted to order take out from this spot on a Friday, however, we were left on hold for too long and we went with a different dinner option. We were in angels camp and passed the restaurant, and it looked dead- no cars in the parking lot. The following day, we tried our luck again and managed to get our order in. When we passed it while running errands it didn't look busy, but when we actually went to pick up the food we realized they have a parking lot in the back!! The servers were friendly and attentive. They deserve 5*. The joint itself was on the average side. We all enjoyed the tacos well enough (got a total of 10 to be shared between the 4 of us there). I split the carne asada super burrito with my daughter (I forgot they automatically add sour cream and the boys have a great dislike for it) and I didn't quite finish my half as it wasn't to my liking, not utterly distasteful but not good enough to finish. The chips were an instant hit at our table. They were fresh and perfectly crisp with little to no salt. It's not necessary anyway since they provide salsa...a bit spicy for our taste but if you're a fan of spicy hot food you will likely disagree. I had a really good meal here today. I decided to try the chili verde plate. Overall it is honestly one of the best chili verdes I have had. The meat itself was very juicy and tender. The salsa verde complimented the meat flavorfully and it was not too spicy. I have never had chili verde mixed with, nopales. The nopales mixed with the perfectly blended chili verde and tender meat is a combo to die for. The rice and beans also were very good. Everything definitely had a touch of homemade and it is my reason for giving them five stars. The restaurant was also very nice and clean. Customer service was excellent. What a gem of a restaurant in a beautiful, little town! When we asked for recommendations for dinner we were told come here and I can see why. First, we didn't have to wait to be seated, the staff was friendly, quick and gave great recommendations. Second, the fireplace is painted in a beautiful Mexican style. Third andmost importantly, THE FOOD!! We had their version of a margarita with Agave wine instead of tequila, it was delicious! We started with salsa and hot bean dip. Each was fresh, delicious, the perfect temperature and hit the spot! I got the two item combination with a taco and Chile relleno which was really tasty and a large enough portion for lunch the next day. The chicken chimichanga stole the spotlight! It was cooked perfectly with a crispy outside and juicy, flavorful inside. We finished the meal with fried ice cream which was a sweet, crispy treat that ended the meal perfectly. I would say this place is a little more than average but not enough to "Wow" Us but the service was friendly and we were seated right away. There was a technical error with the way the Chili Keles was made, it was served with over easy eggs when it should be served with scrambled eggs instead. And also while it is a "Mexican" Kitchen style of eatery I did not see my favorite, Carne Asada plate, a staple I eat at Mexican restaurants. Closest I could pick was Steak Ranchero. It was Okay too.. You only get three tortillas with your order. You have to ask for more if you want them. It also misses the mark on flavor, something we're accustomed too in the Bay Area and although there were some spots we did not agree with, they would be better in taste than this eatery. So I am not saying it's bad... It's a nice diversion from the downtown area and it's easy access from your time share but it falls just a little short taste wise. read more

Stayed in Angels camp for the weekend and got to enjoy some amazing Mexican food. Kids: kids meal with fries (forgot the drink but kids don't need soda so no biggie) one kid got a quesadilla and one got the kids burrito both had plenty to eat, no one was left hungry. Best Mexican Food in town! Food comes out quick but the service is a little slow sometimes.

The food here is excellent, but service can be delayed when it is busy or they are short-staffed. I believe that this is the best food in town. My personal favorites are the special "Gonzo Tacos" (fried tacos with chorizo/beef/cheese blend) or the fish tacos. I also enjoy their chorizo chimichangas on occasion. The Jalapeno sauce or Diabla sauce... these are two green and red spicy sauces that really add to the flavor if you like spicy. Of course, everything on the menu here has been excellent. The only downside for me is that when you order takeout, and they say "20 minutes" it is more like double the time during lunch or dinner time. read more
