The server was super super nice, patient, respectful. The pastries were magnificent, our favorite is the bread pudding and flan. We ordered flan and bread pudding twice because it was so good. Overall the cafe is also cute and has a dainty pink theme. As a person who absolutely loves pink I'm in awe at the attention to detail down to the spoons. Everything I've had from Angie's (which is a lot!) has been great. For birthdays, we get big trays of a variety of empanadas and desserts, and they're always a hit. The stew, rice, and beans are top notch. Angie's has sweet and savory foods, hot and cold foods, delicious and more delicious foods. I was in the area and needed a quick bite before I got back on the road again to head to my destination. And this was close by to where I was. First, the GPS took me off the main road and I had to pull into the parking lot from the side entrance. It's a weird turn and there are cement blocks blocking the driveway of the adjacent property. So don't follow the GPS and try to turn in from the main road. It is right on the corner and easy to find in a nice amount of parking on the other side of the building. It sounds like they did a recent remodel and it's very cute and cozy and welcoming inside. I went about 4 o'clock on a Thursday afternoon and it wasn't occupied so I was attended to immediately. I've purchased two empanadas and got a mango drink. The empanadas were very good. Nice balance of meat and cheese it's a fried empanada so the outside was nicely crispy. They are also a good size so they make for a filling snack. If I'm in the area again I would definitely come back and try some of the other entrées. read more

I have gotten a few different empanadas since working in the neighborhood from Angie's and they are so good!! I tried the chicken stew yesterday, which I asked for with yellow rice, black beans, and plantains and it did not disappoint. It was flavorful, filling, and all cooked perfectly. The prices aren't too bad too. The only thing I would ask for is better containers- I ordered takeout and the liquid from the chicken stew almost spilled out of the container all over my outfit! Otherwise I will be getting this at least once a week!! read more

Got pork chunks with white rice and sweet plantains and a beef empanada. Very yummy. The only negative I would say is that there were only 3 sweet plantain slices and 10 small chucks of pork. This is the cutest restaurant... makes me want to just take a seat, order and eat, but I didn't do that today. I came here directly after work because I've been wanting to try this place. The look of this restaurant from the outside makes you want to take a peak in. The decor gives you the feel of an island, more specifically DR. I was greeted as soon as I arrived to the counter and I placed my order - two beef empanadas. Upon waiting, I took a look at the menu and had to also order some tostones and desserts to try (tres leches cupcake, guava/dulce de leche cupcake and pina colada cupcake). I figured as long as I liked this, I would be back to order an entree and possibly even dine in. I leave with my food, head home and begin eating. The empanadas were good - light, crispy, not greasy at all!!! I recommend requesting some hot sauce and green sauce to take home with it. Next, the tostones... I was satisfied and pleased. My husband added more salt to it while eating his - he stated that it's good, but seems like a healthier version of what we're used to. Now, on to the cupcakes... I could not figure out the flavors of any of the three; nonetheless, it was good! I know, it doesn't make much sense, but try it yourself and you'll understand exactly what I mean. To better explain, it was not dry at all (like some cupcakes you may purchase at a bakery)- it was soft and moist and tasted fresh. I'm unable to speak on the other food that they offer since I didn't try it, but I can say that the portion size is generous from what I saw on a customer's plate and it looked good. Our office decided to try a new restaurant, and I suggested this place that I recently drove past. We all loved the food. Between the ten of us, we ordered almost every dish on the menu. Literally everyone raves about the food. Very rare to find a place everyone loves. The restaurant got all of our orders correct and took the time to individually label everything. Just recently tried the "Chicken Stew" and "Beef Stew" dishes from Angie's Cafe, and they were absolutely delicious. They include marinated, tasty (well seasoned) meat with yellow rice, beans, plantains. Also got the beef & cheese empanadas - my son and his friends scarfed those right down and loved them. Came here on a friday night around 8pm. The place was spacious and neat but empty. The server guy was not that welcoming either. Anyway the place is decorate with really nice display cakes and the had a variety of desserts in their display case. So we chose a table (3 of us). After looking at the menu i ordered a chicken dinner but they were out of chicken. They only had pork or fish and i didnt eat either. I was very disappointed because i was looking forward to it, but i guess i should of known coming an hour before closing. I ended up ordering a beef and cheese, and a chicken and cheese empanada with tostones, my partner ordered 3 chicken empanadas, and another wanted the yuca but thy ran out so they ordered beans and tostones since they were vegan. The food took about 10 min to come out but one order of tostones took about 20 min to come out. The beef and cheese, and chicken and cheese empanadas were ok. I had better. They were filled with meat nicely and not skimpy like other reviews. The tostones were nice and hot. The longer order of tostones were kind of burnt and had less in quantity compared to the first order. My partner said 2 of his empanadas were good and his third tasted odd. The best part of our meals were the hot sauces they had honestly. All in all i came to this place hoping it would be as good as their location in a newark office building but it wasnt. Angies is BACK. It had closed up for a little during the colder months because the family wanted to do some renovation. The renovation is now over and the food is back with better flavor then ever. Today I ordered a Cuban and Pollo de guisado. Both were not pictured because they were eaten so fast. I had the Cuban and a friend had the chicken stew. The Cuban was on fresh bread with fall apart tender Pernil that had tons of flavor and juiciness. It was so so good. I will be back ASAP. Next time I will post pictures. read more

This has become a WEEKLY go to spot to grab dinner over the past few weeks. I have not had a mediocre dish so far...everything has been delicious. I highly recommend the pernil (roast pork)...get it with yellow rice and black beans and some tostones. The carne guisado is on point also. This place has been on a slow and steady decline of late. There is no quality control over the food that comes out of the kitchen. I recently had to return a plate of pernil because it was literally all fat(this was corrected). The last sandwich I got was missing something and was dry. Sometimes sandwiches come with fries, sometimes not. There is no consistency. This isn't the same place that it was a year or two ago. read more

Best place to eat local to me in my part of Edison by far. Great customer service. Food was prepared well and smelled amazing. I got the chicken mofongo and my wife had stew chicken and rice. My first time eating mofongo but am familiar with plantains being from the islands. (Shout out to Haiti ). Really enjoyed the food. The empanadas wasn't as great as some others described but was good. Everything else was good. It was not a let down. But fell short in some capacities. A) the food was a bit overpriced, and I get it, this is Metuchen, so it's easy to mark up (Spanish) food that you'd other wise have to travel to Perth Amboy, Elizabeth or Newark to get. But seriously the portion I got for 9.95, was 1/2 the size I usually get for $5/6 dollars in an urban area. But again, this is Metuchen so I understand. Now for the food, the rice was very good, not what I'm accustomed to per se, as in I like to have the beans and rice already combined, but theirs was still good nonetheless. The roast pork was somewhat seasoned but definitely needed a tad bit of salt and could've stood to be cooked a Lil longer in my opinion. Fortunately, I tried all 3 flavors of empanadas to make up for the small portion. They had beef, beef and cheese and chicken. The chicken was the worst, very dry. Beef came in second and the beef and cheese was the obvious winner! I liked that they use real cheese and not some sort of cheese sauce concoction. Now for the REAL STAR, the cupcakes!! Again this is Metuchen so I understand charging 2.25 for one cupcake.. however these things were DELICIOUSLY ADDICTIVE! I can see why they emphasize it being a bakery first because I will definitely be returning for the cupcakes if nothing else! read more

The pernil was amazing! It a cute little place. The only thing that prevented stars was that the portion of pernil could've been larger. The prices are extremely reasonable. I found this place due to another random dessert stop. I was expecting more dessert options here but that wasn't the case. It's a clean cafe/bakery option that for the locals, I believe it would be a great go to spot, however it didn't have a wow factor for me that it would for an out of area person to make a trek for. I opted to try the tres leches cake as it was the most appealing option in the glass enclosure. While waiting to be packed, my eyes fell on the fresh empanadas brought out. The beef empanadas were actually really good. Crispy on the outside, soft, flavorful and the right texture on the inside, this was a chance hit. I tried Angies yesterday for the first time and I'm back again today. There aren't enough words to describe the flavor of this food. FINALLY...we get a great Spanish food joint in our neighborhood. If I don't cook my own arroz con pollo... or pernil... I'm forced to drive all the way to Perth Amboy. Happy to say - Perth Amboy may never see me again. This place is PHENOMENAL! The pernil... the yellow rice...the beans (black or red)....WOW. This food is not too salty... you can taste the garlic...the cilantro.... so fresh. And super clean!! I met Angie... what a delightful human being. I hope she does well here... because she really has something going. TRY this food and you'll be hooked like us! Also.... I am from the Caribbean (Haiti), and I enjoy the flavors of all the islands in this region, they are very similar, but different in there own way (who doesn't love variety). That being said, of course I was excited to try this place and its now part of my routine for takeout in Edison, because of the following: 1. Friendly on the phone and in person (who would eat from someone rude..NOT ME) 2. The food is well season and delish (recommend the beef empanadas, chicken mofongo and chicken stew so far...might be adding to this as I try other dishes) 3. They have macaroons & the tres leche cake...yummy 4.
