I also appreciate when chicken & waffles is served with chicken wings and not tenders or strips! The way it should be! Be warned, the restaurant space is smaller than most but the ambiance makes up for the space. Food is served on gold plates with matching silverware. Overall great experience and highly recommend. Everyone was greeted quickly and staff worked to seat guests as quickly as they could. We had two classic chicken and waffles - one with tenders and one with wings - 4 of either and the peach cobbler chicken and waffle. We also had scrambled eggs, scrambled egg whites, and grits. The bone in chicken was delightfully crunchy but not overly so. It was just a little bit greasy but not overly so. Still I was glad it was served on a separate plate. The waffle was just big enough. I've had gigantic waffles that tasted awful and this wasn't that. No pulp in the OJ!!! The grits were reportedly just ok but I didn't try them. The tenders were equally crunchy and arrived hot. There's a sign that says they serve mimosas now.

You wouldn't know that from the website nor just walking in. That would've been nice to know beforehand so we wouldn't have wasted our time. The inside has an interesting look and feel but they at least played some good music. We went for Sunday brunch around 11:30. The server was a bit slow, and it wasn't extremely busy. I ordered the fish and grits and my sister got the shrimp and grit balls. None of it was seasoned, with MAYBE the exception of the Cajun sauce that came in both dishes. If you're like me, you know it's not hard to even lightly season seafood or even grits, so it was disappointing the flavors, or lack of, that we got. Will we be back? Eh idk. It was close to my sister's house so that was the only plus.

Second visit -- same issues, different day…read more I came back to Tasteful Tom's for a second try, this time with my parents. I really wanted to see if things had improved since my last visit with a large party. Unfortunately, it still feels like a place with potential that's not being supported properly. When we walked in, I thought things had turned around. The new host (her first day) was amazing warm, confident, and professional. She gave a great first impression. But once seated, it went downhill. * The music was way too loud, to the point where we had to lean in just to talk. * There was only one server working the entire restaurant, which meant slow service, long waits, and a stressed-out vibe. Let's talk food: The fish and grits (see photo) were phenomenal easily the best thing I've had on both visits. Creamy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The chicken and waffles (see photo) were average. Chicken was seasoned okay, but the waffle was a bit underwhelming and slightly rubbery. This place could be a standout in the area the branding, the menu ideas, the food (when it hits) are all there. But the inconsistency, staffing issues, and volume level hold it back. Would I come back? Maybe, for the fish and grits. But only if I hear they've fixed the basics.

I got there just after they opened and glad I did because folks started pouring in. The restaurant isn't very big so you got to fit in when you can. The greeter sat me at the bar and Tee greeted me immediately after. She was so sweet! She recommended some kind of lemon drop and I took her up on her offer. I told her I like sweet drinks and she made it just like I like it. It was good but that drink was almost $20! I just about died when I saw my receipt. Next, she talked me into getting the "Statuh Sampluh" because it was half off and I get to try all the appetizers. I agreed. I loved the deviled eggs, shrimp, and egg rolls. The egg rolls definitely were my fav! For lunch, I had the "Stuff Flounduh" with added greens. The lunch was pretty dry. I think if they drizzled some type of sauce over it, it would enjoy it much better. They do have activities and I can imagine it gets pretty busy so you may want to come early or set a reservation.

I liked the name and the cuisine. Pretty good reviews, but if you've been on Yelp as long as I have, you know that standards vary greatly. And Virgils was no exception! Food was excellent! Deviled Eggs, Corn Bread, Sunday Plate, Grouper, and Seafood Platter. Undeniably Good. Service. Undeniably Bad! Muy malo! If you have to sit at the bar even when you have reservations. No bueno! If you have to flag someone down to get them to take your order. I am looking for an alternative option. If you charge a 20% service fee for services not rendered. Shame on you. "People will never forget how you made them feel". Well in a nutshell, not very valued. Having been in the restaurant industry of over 17 years, I have the perspective being on both sides, I would say service is the part severely lacking at Virgils.

This was probably the worst dining experience I have had in a long time…read more I put in a reservation 3 weeks in advance for Valentine's Day. Once we arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation, we were informed that they had a 30-minute wait for reservations. So we arrived at 5:40 p.m. And got seated at 6:30 p.m. when we had a 6:00 p.m. reservation. We went to the bar and ordered drinks in the meantime and they were pouring heavy which was nice since everyone was apparently 30 minutes behind on all reservations. Once we got to our table we ended up putting in our order immediately because we had all the time in the world to look over the menu. I ordered the surf and turf filet mignon with lobster tail medium-medium rare. My wife ordered the ribeye steak rare. While we waited for our food, we had a jumbo shrimp appetizer which was really good. The issue was that we watched people come in after us who got seated after us who got their food before us. The ambiance was nice. But they didn't seem exceptionally busy. If anything, they just seemed like they had a normal full night. There was not an exceptionally long line or anything of people waiting. They had plenty of staff on hand. We were told that the weight was due to the fact they were busy. But nothing else. So I have no idea if it was a lack of cooks or what, but the wait time was so long. We finally got our food at 7:55 p.m. And my wife's steak was cooked too long and it was cooked medium and not rare. We told them we didn't want to send it back if it was going to take super long for it to be redone and we believe that's the only reason it came out so fast. This was supposed to be a romantic night out but it ended up just making us both really frustrated and annoyed. We chose a locally owned restaurant we had never been to. But with how the experience was, we could have gotten a better experience at Olive garden which is really depressing to say. The one highlight, was our server Di'el as she was quite attentive and apologetic. But management never stopped by our table to provide an answer as to why our reservation didn't matter and we had to wait 30 minutes. No apology for the meal being cooked wrong. We did not order a dessert given that the rest of the meal and experience went so poorly. I don't think we would ever go back.
