Stopped by for drinks and apps and this was a great bar with a Northern woods/outdoor vibes. We had a few cocktails - the Jo's Cosmo and the Blackberry Mule. Both were delicious and my cosmo was quite strong! Wowsers! We also tried the kimchi pot stickers and the chicken wings. Both were great! Our server was friendly and attentive. The pizza we ordered was excellent but the burgers were overcooked and the fries were cold. The server didn't check in with us until we were done eating and never asked us how the food was, so there wasn't even a chance to make things right. We did love the ambiance outside and hope the kitchen and service improves for future customers. Update: when we got the bill, we discovered that we had paid $6 for each premium meat topping on the pizza instead of one $6 charge for the premium upgrade. We were shocked and asked to speak to the manager who explained that the menu could be better worded to be more clear and that they are short staffed right now. She was very kind and gave us a slight discount, but it was still a very expensive meal considering the food and service. read more

We came here to watch a football game and had a great experience. Our server was very kind and attentive. We ordered the pretzels and beer cheese to start and they were yummy. For lunch we had the chipotle chicken sandwich and the crispy chicken wrap. The chipotle chicken sandwich had a great sauce on it with a little kick, and the wrap was solid as well but nothing out of this world. Nice selection of local beers. First of all, the only reason I went to this place was because my aunt lived here as a kid. And recommended it. Anyways the food was delicious. I got the make your own 10" pizza with pepperoni. The pizza is thin crust. Another person got the nachos and another got the Ruben. All were delicious. The place has a sort of modern/historical feel. Extreme weather was going to move in. Visited for lunch today. Usually one of our favorite places but something has changed . The food was mediocre at best. My cod sandwich consisted of three small pieces of over fried cod , wilted lettuce and three thin slices of tomato on a huge hoagie which was impossible to eat as a sandwich and cold fries. My husbands club sandwich was basically a ham and cheese with two slices of bread, lettuce and tomatoe. The iced tea tasted nothing like iced tea. It will be a while before we return if we do. read more

Very popular place on Main St. we stopped in early for lunch soon after they opened on a Saturday. Very soon there was a waiting line, place was hopping. Inside decor is northwoods classic: mounted fish and deer heads. 2 moose heads. Couple bobcats. Lots of wood on the walls and ceiling. Extensive beers both on tap and bottled. Full liquor bar. Now for what we ate. I had a burger and fries. Excellent crispy thin fries. Burger bun was nice, held up for the whole burger, did not fall apart like many do. But the meat was cold, dry, and really had no taste. My wife had Caesar salad with chicken. Chicken was also dry, and the romaine was finely shredded which is the opposite of a usual Caesar salad. Used to be one of our favorite places and would make special trips to Hayward to eat there. The last three times (yes three, kept thinking we had an isolated incident and wanted to give them another chance). Quality of food and service has significantly diminished. Used to love their fish and now tastes and looks like frozen fillets from a box from the grocery store. Last trip same and ice cold fries as well. It's like they don't even try or care anymore. Love their pizza. Probably my favorite in town. They don't have a kid sized fish fry, so a five year old's portion is the same cost and size as a grown man. That needs to change, in my opinion. Gets pretty costly if a little one has fish fry and a pop. In fact, her meal cost more than everyone else's! The 3% charge for using credit cards is annoying, but getting more and more common in the area. Overall, they are pretty consistent with their food quality and service. Getting rid of the bowling alley and having more seating was a great idea. The larger game room is nice for the kids. Wish they had more vegetarian items, but those are pretty hard to come by in the meat heavy town of Hayward. read more

I used to love this place. This summer in August, they used precautions and staff and patrons wore masks. This time we walked in and NOT ONE STAFF WORE A MASK! Apparently the virus doesn't exist here? Very disappointing to say the least. It would take one staff member to Infect HUNDREDS of people without knowing they did so. The tables were not spaced out anymore than Norma and guests came and went without masks as well. There was no sign on the door requiring masks to be worn. We sat at a high top which seemed a better more spacious option for the situation at hand. I had the brisket Gouda melt. Flavor good. Meat over cooked. I've been here twice. The first time a friend and I sat at the bar which wasn't busy and the bartender couldn't be bothered. We waited a few minutes for drinks and then we sat for over 10 minutes after we finished them waiting for a refill, which we sat at the edge of her side of the bar as you do, kept trying to make eye contact with her, before finally walking over to where she was at the other end of the bar and asking to tab out without another drink. The second time I came with family and we sat in a booth and ordered food. The service that time was good, as was the food. No complaints from that visit at all. Would be willing to go again to sit down and eat but I don't think I'll be up to the bar again. Booths are comfortable! read more

The 4 star rating is due to the decor and service and not the food which is just average -- 3 stars. It's just not a Northern Wisconsin bar if there isn't a deer head hanging on the wall. Anglers outdid themselves with an interesting display of stuffed wildlife and trophy fish. There's not an open space to be seen on any wall. Good looking mounts and realistic dioramas -- and it's tastefully done. Anglers does have nice outside seating. The highlight of our lunch was the deep fried green beans served with ranch dressing. They were fresh, crisp, tender and perfect. Don't hesitate, just order them. My gyro had a minimal amount of meat, a couple of unripe tomato slices, hardly any onions and a small amount of sauce. It tasted okay but is hardly on par with other restaurants offerings. The fries were good. The burrito was adequate, as was the chipotle chicken sandwich which had a sweet cloying sauce. The Nasty Burger was a hit. I believe it was due to my dinner companion's obsession with messy foods more than anything. read more

Found this jewel by accident. Open Sunday and was steadily busy all day. I went in for a few beers and to try the food. Specifically the burger menu. After a few beers I got hungry so I ordered the Nasty Burger on the menu. It has to be in my top five favorite burgers. Smothered in sautéed mushrooms and a slice of red onion and hickory smoked bacon with pepper jack cheese and three onion rings. The fries were McDonald's style hot and crispy. Helena pronounced Helayna made sure to tell the cook to make sure the fries were crispy. She never let my beer get empty. Exceptional bartender. Love this place and highly recommend. read more

Angler's is such a fun hangout along Main Street in downtown Hayward. It has great views of the street with its outdoor seating. And there's the bar inside if you'd like to get a drink. But unfortunately, the food doesn't live up to the location. It's OK at best. Every July 4 week I visit Hayward with my boyfriend and his family, who has a cabin on a nearby lake. And during the current trip, we decided to get dinner in town and ended up at Angler's. To start our meal, we ordered the Brew City Appetizer Sampler, which comes with beer-battered mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers, onion rings, fried mushrooms, battered shrimp and chicken strips. From this description, you would expect to get a hefty plate of apps, right? Well what we got was a small basket with, in some cases, just two of each. If you have a full table of people, you'll need more than one of these to satisfy rumbling tummies. And then we got the Angler's Special pizza -- I believe it was called. It came with sausage, maybe mushrooms, green peppers and onions. The crust was way too thin. One person in our group commented that it was like eating pizza on a cracker. But in the middle of the pizza, the crust was mushy and, even worse, the toppings completely slid off of the crust. Nothing was holding this pizza together. Altogether, this pizza was very difficult to eat, especially if you're trying to eat it with your hands. It tasted OK -- not great, but alright. The servers were attentive, and like any good Wisconsin establishment, they carry New Glarus beer -- my favorite! But still, more could be done with the food to make this a real destination in downtown Hayward. read more
