This was the first winery that we were planning to visit mostly because the winery is in town and the hours were convenient but the wine information wasn't bad either. Turned out to be one of the best decisions. We were met by Stefanie Anglim who had helped us with tasting and explaining the wines that they make and the way they grow the grapes, which is probably the first one I've been to that does dry farming. Tried the usual suspects Viognier, Grenache, Mourvedre, Zin, but we liked the Syrah and Petit Sirah the best the initial spicy "hit" and the long lasting pleasant aftertaste make it one of the best single grape wines I've tasted in a long time. I think that visiting this winery is a must for anyone in Paso even though it's sort of hidden away even for a local landmark like the train depot. And if you're not careful you might miss one of the better experiences in wine country. read more

2006 Cameo - White Rhone Blend 2006 Cerise French Camp Vineyard - Red Rhone Blend 2006 Grenache 2004 Syrah 2005 Cabernet Franc Paso del Sol 2006 Petite Syrah French Camp Vineyard Anglim Winery is a small, family-owned label producing vineyard-designate Rhone varietals and blends plus limited-release Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is owned and operated by Steve and Steffanie Anglim based out of Paso Robles. This was a structured tasting of 6 wines. The first wine, 2006 Cameo is a white rhone blend of Marsanne, Viognier, and Roussanne. All three of those grapes make for a beautiful blend and structure. In the french style the wines show pear and citrus with a strong acidity and mineral content. The price of the wine is $22.00 per. This would be a perfect roast chicken wine. The second wine 2006 Cerise is a red rhone blend. Rhone blends always score really high on my Paso Robles radar and this one is no different. $24.00 per bottle is a great great price of this wine. The wine is a blend of Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache. Cherry, boysenberry, and star anise. With a tart finish on the palate. Rhone Blends can go with just about anything from Stews or Barbecue to a comfy chair and a glass in your hand. The third wine 2006 Grenache is just one of my all time favorite varietals. There is red cherry and raspberry, hints of tobacco and a good amount of spice on the finish. $24.00 per bottle is a good deal. The next 2 wines 2004 Syrah and 2005 Cabernet Franc. Were both really beefy and strong. The syrah is high in alcohol content with 15.4% and the Cab. Franc was 14.8%. Not exactly my cup of tea for either of those varietals. Possibly with a food pairing might calm either wines down a bit. Syrah was priced at $24.00 per while the Cab. Franc was at $32.00. The last wine which is slowly becoming a sneaky favorite of mine, 2006 Petite Sirah. Was a beautiful inky wine showing jammy dark berry fruit and petroleum overtones. A tad on the beefy side and alcohol side as well at 15.2%. I have been pairing certain Petite Syrahs with raw Toro Tuna. When the wine has a good amount of acidity it seems to blend well with the fattiness of the fish. The Anglim though would not pair that well. The wine does not carry enough of that acidity on the palate. Overall a nice wine, just not the one I am looking for. Price was $24.00 per. I did not get to meet the owner because I got to the tasting a little late. Overall all the wines were very interesting and well priced. Certain wine merchants in Los Angeles should carry the wines. I purchased them at California Wine and Cheese. Give Them A Try Cheers! read more

This was our last stop on a quick wine tasting tour through Paso on our way up to SF for a wedding, and we really did save the best for last. Our friends who have been to Paso many times and are big wine snobs had taken us to all their favorite wineries earlier in the day, but had heard good things about this one and so took us here as well. And I have to say I liked it the most out of the five we stopped at. The owner, Steffanie, was our pourer, and she was fantastic. She was so friendly and really gave us great attention (it could have been due to the fact that we were the only ones in there, but it was also 30 minutes before closing and she didn't try to rush us at all). Since I had to drive, I split a tasting with my boyfriend, and she let us try all the wines on the tasting menu instead of just six. I loved so many of the bottles, it was hard to decide what to buy (and I also was kicking myself for not coming here first because I would have much rather spent more money here than at some of the other wineries we went to earlier and bought mediocre wine at). I loved the Red Five Blend, the Cabernet Sauvignon, the Cerise, the Grenache, and the Mourvèdre - all really delicious, very complex, very smooth red wines. We heard their Syrah is amazing but unfortunately they were out. I thought the bottles were incredibly well priced compared to what other wineries were charging for crappier wine. The building is also super quaint - not a big property with rolling hills of vines, but it's located in the same building as the train station near the center of downtown Paso. I will definitely be stopping here on my drive home for Thanksgiving! read more

Such a great tasting room in Downtown Paso. We dropped in about 45 minutes before they closed and Steffanie was a fantastic hostess. We throughly enjoyed chatting with her about wine, Paso, and small talk in general. They also had some classic rock playing in the background which gave the tasting room a relaxed vibe. Overall all the wines are well balanced and none were overly sweet. Even the dessert wine wasn't cloying. We were able to taste a nice variety of wines; reds, whites, a rose, and a dessert wine. This was another winery where we left with multiple bottles and even bought some wines as gifts. When we mentioned to Steffanie where we planned on having dinner, she had great recommendations for what to order, just having been at said restaurant a few nights before with her family. Located off the 101 in Paso Robles in the downtown area right next to the Amtrak Station. Easy to find but hard to get back on the freeway if youre going north. Its a small tasting room that has a country feel with wood floors and clean white walls. The basic wine tasting cost $5 from what I remember. Purchased a 2006 Viognier and a 2004 Syrah based on the tasting. Again, I was the lone patron on a weekday early afternoon. Was told the weekends get busier... Honestly, we would not have ever thought of visiting here because it's in an area of downtown off the main block, and really never showed up on our radar. But our friend was taking the train back to Los Angeles and our B&B hosts recommended this as an excellent place to visit, so heck why not? We had 30 minutes before the train departed so let's give Anglim Winery a try. EVERY wine on the menu was delicious. We could have bought everything. Stefanie was a sweetheart and gave us all good pours and was happy to offer us a "re-visit" on anything we wanted. Rhone varietals all from noteworthy vineyards. The Pinot Noir, I have to say, was stellar. A nice alternative to spending $70 on Sea Smoke or Kosta Browne, but belongs in the same class for sure. Their whites had body and backbone but were well-balanced and had nice minerality along with some creaminess (the Roussane blend). Loved all of their wines. If we weren't in so many wine clubs, this would be a good one to join. They had a nice "case discount" also, and clearly appreciated their visitors. We did luck out by visiting on a Sunday after the Harvest Festival rush was over, but I bet this tasting room is lovely all year round. This is a no bells and whistles honest to good winery and we would highly recommend. The tasting room is simple, sweet and small and not full of the usual over-priced merchandise. Walls were decorated with canvas pics made by their daughter through the ages. Super sweet! Great, open parking lot, and a ten minute walk to the park downtown (or 2 minute drive lol). Five stars! I just had BBQ'd lamb chops with a 2005 Anglim Zinfandel. Fantastic! Big Strawberry up front with a finish of pomegranate and a very pleasant pepperiness throughout. It's just right, just the right time. Fresh and fruity as if it was only about three years old, but soft and mellowed by the last twelve years. I am very pleased. This is a good time to drink. Wow! I mainly came to this Winery because during the summer, I met the wine makers wife during an art in the park event that Paso Robles has every First Saturday in the summer, so I had free tasting passes. I finally used the free tasting passes and fell in love. Not only is Sofia Anglim a great hostess, but she is super sweet and willing to answer any questions you have about the wines they have. My experience is different because we had a wedding reception here. It's beautiful small and quaint. They had a massive cheese and crackers platter setup for us and the staff was super nice. We had a custom wine tasting list with viognier, maudreuve, and Syrah. Wines tasted great and their descriptions were spot on. Definitely check this place out if you're in town. read more

We visited Anglim last Saturday and found it to have, not only very good wines and a warm and welcoming tasting room, but to have a wonderful and knowledgeable owner, as well. A hidden gem! My girlfriend and I took a last minute trip up to Paso Robles and while we were waiting for our train we saw the Anglim Winery sign. We came for the taste of Paso and when we arrived we were the only ones. She gave us a splash for a taste. Then white people came in she have a generous pour. I wasn't tripping until the next set of white folks came in and got a generous pour. When asked to try one more only to get a splash. Won't come back we left feeling upset and disrespected. We stopped by Anglim at the end of the day because we were nearby. The tasting room is small and home-like, and the owners were quiet friendly & happy to talk about their wine. The $5 tasting fee for your choice of 6 wines was quite reasonable, and she actually let us taste a couple more than that when we couldn't decide. The wine was alright, but I wouldn't put it in the standout category. I did enjoy their uniquely peppery mourvedre, but for the most part the rest of the wine left me wishing for a little more complexity & structure. read more

Great 2012 Bien Nacido Viognier that Steve has produced! It won our wine tasting! Epic, floral, and Down the Rabbit Hole of Wondefullness! He just gets better and better, and it is revealed in all of his wines. One of the things that improve with time and age (technology and dot com relevance Is irrelevant) is the craftsmanship and expertise of winemaking. Steve has evolved from the garagiste to the entrepreneur to Genache Guy to the Mouvedre Maven and many other monikers. (Pinot Professionale!) If there is ONE tasting room you need to visit in Paso Robles it's the Anglim room at the train station with Steve and Steffanie. Nuff said! This was our first stop in Paso and was a real treat. Steve, the winemaker, was the one hosting us and having him go through the wines with us was very personal and unique. The wines are all amazing Rhone Varietals and hard to choose a favorite. Absolutely loved all the wines here. They have a particular emphasis on Rhone varietals, although at the time when I tasted they also had a Zinfandel/Syrah/Mourvedre blend. My favorite part was definitely the side-by-side of 2 nearly identical viogniers--the only difference between them being the usage of oak in the aging process. Have visited Anglim a couple of times and have never left disappointed. Their tasting room is very quaint and homey, very unusual for a tasting room in Downtown Paso, and is located in the Train Depot. The owner Stephanie is always friendly and very engaging, even when she is busy behind the bar. Oh, and the wines: Delicious. I left with a bottle of their Grenache Blanc and their Best Barrel Blend (A Syrah/Mourvedre/Grenache blend). Their prices are anywhere from the mid $20's for the whites to the low $40s for some of the pricier reds, which to me when you consider the qualify of the product, are very reasonable. My wife and I stopped here after we had a great seminar from Coy over at the Wine Wrangler (literally a couple stores nearby). The room itself is small, and is a converted train station depot (as we learned from Steffanie). The space is clean and nicely organized. Steffanie Anglim (wife of the winemaker, Steve Anglim) hosted us as she walked us through 5 of their wines. Steffanie was great and took her time in helping us feel comfortable in trying out her wines. Generous with her time (we were the only ones in there on a weekday afternoon), and knowledge, we had a pleasant time in both tasting and conversation. We ended up tasting a number of limited release wines including a couple of Pinot Noirs, a Best Barrel Blend, Mourvedre, and a Grenache. We loved the 2007 Pinot Noir - Bien Nacido Vineyard wine and purchased a bottle. Steffanie even signed the bottle for us when she learned that we were on our honeymoon. We enjoyed our experience tasting and also enjoyed the wines Anglim had to offer. Thanks to Steffanie for making our visit a memorable one! Stephanie is wonderful and always had good recommendations for local places we can go with our little daughter and both Stephanie and Steve are great.
