We were tasting at another tasting room in Tin City and heard that Turtle Rock had plenty of openings for the day, though they usually require reservations. Figured why not, and headed there next! We were able to walk in and start tasting right away. We shared our table with another couple that was already there and ended up chatting with them most of the time. The tasting menu had four reds when we were in. Wines were good but we didn't end up going home with any this time. We just had a tasting with Nicole and we were blown away. We enjoy wine, but do not have a ton knowledge about it. After visiting you 2 other high profile wineries where they talk at you, we were pleasantly surprised by our experience at Turtle rock. My wife, our 2-month-old baby, and I had a fantastic visit to Turtle Rock Wines in Tin City last weekend. They were incredibly accommodating of our little one, and we had a great experience from start to finish. Chris-our host and now new friend-was thoughtful, knowledgeable, personable, and poured some truly outstanding wines. We especially loved the 2022 Willows Cuvée, Claude's Cuvée (which we took home), and Plum Orchard--some of the most beautifully expressed big red wines we've had in Paso. Chris also shared the '22 Cabernet Sauvignon, which was just as impressive. After being on the waitlist for 6-8 months, we're thrilled to now be members of their wine club (shoutout to our friends who recommended it!). One of the best wine tasting experiences I've ever had. We came during the winter holiday and had a ball. Great little area of wine and food in an unpretentious industrial area (but not really). Fantastic wine style that has a unique terroir and local grape variety. Definitely worth trying, probably best to call in to see what that day is like. read more

Like so many places, we became aware of Turtle Rock from a recommendation. After sharing our love of Saxum, our friend at Bien Nacido recommended Turtle Rock. He literally said, "You need to check out Turtle Rock, they're doing great things and get in on their wine club before its too late!" - and so we did! Nothing about Turtle Rock disappoints. We were able to snag a Fall 2024 allocation and tucked it away to rest for the next several years. Still never trying their wines, we found ourselves driving through Paso and decided to give TR a ring to see if they had any tasting appointments. To our surprise they did! Perfect! And they were pet friendly - yay! Located in Tin City, Turtle Rock has a smaller tasting room footprint, with a sizeable comfy outdoor seating area and a nice private tasting room. The decor is everything I adore: lovely polished gnarled woods, juxtaposed with iron and concrete, but a warmth that emanates from within - which I will fully credit to the staff! Turtle Rock is indeed doing great things! You'll find juice from epic vineyards like G2 and elsewhere. These wines are good now, but will definitely age well with a few years. read more

Turtle Rock was recommended by a few other wineries we have visited in the past so we finally made our way to Tin City. It was a great decision. Our tasting was provided by Nicole, who was absolutely amazing. I believe their tasting room was a little busier than anticipated for a Sunday afternoon but, Nicole handled it like a boss! She did not skip a beat and provided a great tasting experience. She had a lot of knowledge to share about wines, the various districts and even the distilleries. The wines were very good. They have one white, one rose and the rest reds, which is right up our alley. The G2N was so good! We will definitely be back. read more

Quality exceeds expectation. Turtle Rock is producing cult level wines. Our visit was nothing less than spectacular. We have come to appreciate Paso Robles wines and wines tasted at Turtle Rock have fast forwarded to the top of our list. We tasted whites and reds and were impressed with both. Turtle Rock sources only the best fruit for their wines and specializes in blends. We were fortunate enough to spend time with the owners and learn more about the brand. We had a lovely and informative tasting on their socially-distanced patio and went home with some wine! We didn't have an appointment but were able to snag a table, luckily. Mt local friend had heard about this winery from some other vintners. We also learned that the winemaker, Don, has been making wine at Saxum and has carved out his own wines, many crafted form some of the same vineyards and the notorious Saxum wines. We enjoyed learning about the wines, the history of the family and the names, and even the beautiful labels! This place is all about the wine, which is phenomenal! It doesn't offer the sweeping views, vineyard setting, or frills of other wineries in the area. Sometimes I feel like other wineries need that to draw in people since their wine is more on the mediocre side. They still have a lovely tasting with a great location in Tin City. This place simply stands by the fact that they offer some of the best quality wine in the area. I feel like they are a major contender because of it. Their Tinkled Pink, Willow's Cuvée and Maturin are some of my favorite wines around. They just do a phenomenal job and Claudia & Don (owners) are always very welcoming. Believe the hype! We were so fortunate to score a tasting at Turtle Rock's spot in Tin City at the last minute and it did not disappoint. We spent tons of time with Chris Burns who was full of knowledge about the amazing wines and made us feel at home and part of the family. The wines are nothing short of amazing, from the Willow's Tickled Pink Rose (incredible and I'm not a rose fan!) to the Westberg Red, this tasting beat out some of the bigger "go to" names in Paso. So glad to have stumbled onto this gem! Nestled on the back side of Tin City, this is one of the urban wineries that I would definitely want to come back and enjoy. With its bare-bones interior, it's a place for people who truly enjoy wine and aren't coming to be entertained. Unlike many of the urban wineries that source grapes from all over the state, Turtle Rock sources locally and so continues the style and flavor of Paso. It's a family run business with roots in the West side and wines named after the owners' daughter. With wine sourced locally, you'll find more consistency in the wines and have the ability to try/buy flights. A sure place to bookmark and visit! read more

We came here last weekend when referred by a local. I have to say, the wines a decent, not great, I give them 4 stars overall, some so-so, others very good. My first complaint is that you make an appointment for 2 and they don't offer a "shared" tasting, which is what we hoped for because we were sipping and pouring (we were going to 2 other wineries later in the day). So you're committed to $50 just to try their wines (hey guys, this isn't Napa). When we were greeted we were told we would be helped by one of 3 ladies whom were pouring wines in the tasting porch. One of them was the owner's wife (a little older than the other two) who seemed phony as a six-dollar bill (inflation), disingenuously friendly with over-inflected vocal skills. The worst part was when we got to the second wine, one of the younger ladies poured and we both instantly said the wine was "corked", no doubt about it, like someone bottled farts. She watched us pour them out, didn't offer for us to try another bottle, she just said she'd look into it and disappeared. Never came back to inform us either way. We completed the list and out of them all we preferred the first wine, a nice Rose, and the last one, a big red blend. We ended up buying 2 bottles of each because that way the tasting fee was waived and thereby the wines discounted to what they're truly worth. I know the winemaker has pedigree and again his wines are decent, but they need to have a little better customer service training. We bought four cases of wines last weekend, and after going to some other wineries, we not only regretted the visit, but the purchase of the wines too. Sad, very sad. Tell the owner that when a customer (that looks to be reasonably mature) says they think the wine was corked, offer a sample from another bottle. If it wasn't corked it would be one I pour down the drain because it was not only undrinkable, it was un-tastable. Other than that, this place was OK. There's room to improve. read more

Absolutely incredible wines; hands down some of the best we've tasted not only from this region but gives most of Bay Area wine country a run for its quality and money! We made an appointment for us two to get away from a larger family birthday group, specifically in wanting to try out their wines. Their reputation for Rhône blends and Syrahs drew us here. From the first sip of rosé wine to finish, every single wine was perfection - and not a single one alike another. We didn't even get through the 4th wine on the tasting list before we signed up to be wine club members...and trust me, the last thing we needed was to add another wine club with 8 already in play!! Claudia is the absolute best. We went into Turtle Rock today for a tasting after hearing good things about the wine. It felt like we were undersold. Don is producing some of the finest wines in the region. There were a number of standouts from the tasting and we happily purchased a couple of bottles (and will be back in the near future to grab a couple of more). Claudia, Don's wife, was an absolute delight during the tasting. She is a fountain of knowledge about wine, local history, and pretty much anything else. There are a number of great wineries in Paso, but Turtle Rock should be a must-visit. It's great wine that is made and poured by even better people. read more

We revisited Turtle Rock recently to try their wines with a fresh palate. A previous visit had left us feeling ambivalent and we felt perhaps we hadn't done them justice. SO GLAD WE REVISITED!!! Turtle Rock is making hands down, the best Rose I've ever had. Fruity and floral and memorable without being sweet. It is freshness in a glass and everyone should give it a try. They are sold out of several of their blockbuster reds, so joining the wine club was the logical choice to get on the allocation list. This winery tasting room is in Tin City. They do not serve food. You will not need to allocate more than 45 minutes max. to enjoy their wines. read more
