Heard nothing but good things about this place, so I brought the fam and some friends to tackle this menu (7 Courses of Beef) and it was a 10/10 experience. At $31.00 per person, the price for the amount of food you get is unbeatable. I suck at rolling my own spring rolls but my fam loves the hands-on experience of making our own rolls with rice paper and fresh herbs. Here was the lineup: Gỏi Bò (Beef Salad): A fresh, light start with beef and crunchy veggies. Bò Nhúng Dấm (Beef Fondue): The vinegar broth is so flavorful. Dipping the thin slices of beef and rolling those suckers up. Bò Chả Đùm (Steamed Beef Pate): Rich and savory it's great with the shrimp chips. Bò Mỡ Chài (Grilled Beef Sausage): Super juicy and packed with flavor. Bò Lá Lốt (Beef in Lot Leaf): interesting smoky taste. Bò Nướng Xã (Lemongrass Beef): The lemongrass flavor and the beef was so tender. Cháo Bò (Beef Porridge): love love love porridge! The perfect way to end the meal. I've never had seven courses of beef/bo 7 mon at a restaurant and have passed by An Hong many times over the years. I popped by for dinner right before 6 pm, so the restaurant wasn't super busy yet but it filled up as the night went on. Our 7 courses of beef consisted of bo goi/beef salad, bo nhung dam/beef dipped in vinegar (the beef is dipped in a vinegary broth like shabu shabu), bo cha dum (steamed beef meatball), bo nuong mo chai (beef grilled in caul fat), bo nuong sa (beef with lemongrass and onion), bo la lot (grilled beef wrapped in lolot leaves), and chao bo (beef rice porridge). Our meal came with a plate of lettuce and herbs for each person, rice paper and water for wrapping, and some thinly sliced lemongrass for the mam nem. Nuoc mam is available upon request. Everything was solid overall! My favorite dishes were the chao bo, bo la lot, and bo nuong mo chai; these were particularly flavorful and better than other versions I've had before. I would definitely buy these 3 dishes a la carte if I wasn't in the mood for all 7 courses of beef, especially the chao bo. My least favorite dish was the goi bo. It wasn't bad at all but it wasn't particularly memorable. The 7 courses of beef set was $31 per person, which I thought was reasonable since the dishes were mostly made with eye round and ground beef. The service was perfectly fine to me. My food was brought out in a timely fashion and everyone was polite. The interior isn't super modern and trendy, but the ambiance is comfortable and familiar to me since I'm a Vietnamese person who grew up in ESSJ. This specific Anh Hong on Tully Road is one of my family's favorite restaurants to go to in San Jose! We tend to go weekends at around lunch time and there's never a wait. Their speciality is the 7 course beef (bo 7 mon) but that's often too much food for us so we tend to get dishes a la carte. We'll typically get the Bò Mỡ Chài and Nướng Lá Lốt (grilled beef sausage and beef wrapped in Hawaiian Lot Leaf), Bánh xèo (vietnamese savory pancake), or their grilled whole catfish. When you order these dishes, it comes with vegetables and rice paper wraps and you'd make spring rolls out of all the ingredients and dip it into their house made fish sauce. My personal favorite is their Bánh xèo. They make the pancake extra crispy and it's so good when you wrap it in lettuce and dip it in the sauce. Couldn't recommend Anh Hong enough! read more

We toured the shopping center and checked out all the offerings before deciding on this restaurant. We started out in the food court. It had what I was looking for, but it was dirty inside and you needed a code to the bathroom. When we entered this restaurant we first looked at the menu. The prices were the same as the food court and it was sit down service and no code to the bathroom needed and best of all it looked really clean. We placed our order and it shortly came out. I ordered the vermicelli noodle with bbq pork. It did not come out as expected. I thought it would be a dish of vermicelli noodles with a salad like base, bbq pork on top and an egg roll on top. Instead it was deconstructed. It came with a platter of cold vermicelli noodles and a platter of greens. You eat it like a lettuce wrap. You pull out a leaf of lettuce and put the vermicelli noodles on it with bbq pork and add the other greens inside. It was good, but I wouldn't order it again due to I was looking for a bowl dish. My husband ordered noodle soup with beef stew. I liked his better than mine. The flavor was perfect, flavorful and not spicy. The stew was perfectly cooked, very tender. I highly recommend this place versus the food court. They have plenty of tables, good food, and service. Very clean and nice and clean bathroom and good vibe. read more

We ordered several beef dishes and I liked that they came with lots of fresh veggies like lettuce and herbs. And they give you rice paper wraps which you soak in the warm water. 7 course beef is a popular choice within the Vietnamese cuisine. This restaurant has been in Lyon Plaza for at least 25 years. I remember dining here for special occasions when I was a kid. Recently, we took my mom here for a belated birthday dinner. We ordered the 7 course beef for four people (you should order per person to ensure there's enough food for everyone). Simply put: it was nostalgic. Each course had its own unique flavors and twist that haven't changed too much in taste and presentation from what I remember as a kid. These guys do a good job in keeping the recipe and preparation style consistent over the years. It's spring roll style so you get the rice papers, the fresh vegetables, and the dipping sauces to wrap with each course of beef as it comes out. And yes, it's exactly as the name suggests -- its 7 different courses of beef that you get to roll up into your preferred make of a spring roll. I must've ate 15 spring rolls. Don't worry, they're small in size so it's easy to get carried away. Haha. Very addicting if you ask me. The best part is that you don't feel overly full or guilty after having dinner here because there is an abundance of fresh vegetables that is paired with every bite. Came to the square to buy flowers and stopped by Anh Hong to eat some Vietnamese food. TBH, it wasn't the best Vietnamese food and it was Ok not excellent. Service was lackluster. Slow and inattentive. The two young waiters were friendly, but the older man/owner was not too nice, He didn't greet. Dishes didn't come at the same time. I felt like from stepping in 'til getting food, it's a waiting game to test my patience. Paying cash will save you a few dollars. Unclean environment. There were a few noticable food scraps and slimy stuff on the floor under our table that they didn't clean up. It bothered me. I think the food would taste better if they provide better service. Scratching my head how come I have not reviewed this before...oh well, here goes. This is THE Restaurant that my parents pref to take out of town guest or special occasion celebrations. There are not a lot of places that serve the 7 course beef on the menu. They actually have fish as well if you don't eat beef. The 7 course beef is exactly what it says, 7 ways of cooking beef. It's an interactive dining experience, so make sure you wash your hands before the food comes out. They will have rice wrappers and warm water for soaking and lots of veggies at the table. 1st course is the beef salad, with a light vinaigrette. 2nd course is sliced beef filet cooked in broth. 3rd through 6th is a platter with grilled beef with shallot, grilled beef covered with grape leaf, grilled beef with peanuts and a beef loaf with noodles (eaten with a shrimp chip). How to wrap: 1. Take a rice wrapper, dip it in the warm water, making sure it's all wet. 2. Put it down on your plate. 3. To the lower half of yhe wrapper, add the veggies (lettuce, mint or other leaves, pickled carrots, bean sprouts). 4. Add your beef 5. Gently roll the rice wrapper up and tucking the beef and veggies, without ripping it. Fold the sides in and then finishing rolling it til it looks like an eggroll. 6. Dip in the fish sauce and enjoy! It's a fun meal to teach and enjoy with kids 6yrs and older, and let them wrap their own. After their remodel a few years back, the atmosphere is nice and comfortable. Most of the dishes they served were average tasting to me, some better than others such as the beef onion roll but even then didn't have enough flavor. Overall, I thought the dishes were average. Most of the courses weren't amazing and some were actually overcooked and dry. I personally liked the fondue as it had a citrus taste. This is my wife's favorite Vietnamese restaurant in San Jose. She orders raw steak and/or squid to cook in a boiling broth bowl. After it quickly cools, she wraps the meat in rice paper along with cucumbers, bean sprouts, carrots, and lettuce. It's a really cool experience with some very tasty dishes. Overpriced food and mediocre service. They need to hire more servers to handle peak hours. I think they either gave our order to another table or forgot about us. I asked about our order and they kept telling it's coming...took them 1.5 hour. We were so hungry we started eating rice paper. Then we asked for more rice paper and they totally ignored us. This place is located inside Lion Plaza. The 7 course beef dish is meant to be shared and eaten family style. I really enjoyed the food and the portion sizes. The leaf wrapped beef and the thinly sliced beef that you dip into the hot broth are my top 2 favorites of the beef dishes. I like the fresh herbs that accompany the meal and how quickly our food came out. I also tried their calamari and thought it was alright. The bad: They don't have a baby changing table/area in the men's restroom. My least favorite of the beef dishes was the beef porridge at the end because it could have used some fresh ginger or depth in flavor. The interesting: I added my name for a table using the waitlist function in the Yelp app but upon arrival to the restaurant they didn't seem to know or care what that was. This is THE Viet restaurant for Bo 7 Mon! It's beef prepared in 7 different ways and is a staple for Viet cuisine. I've been coming here ever since I was a kid, and it's such a treat every time. Excusing the service--when you go to a traditional Asian restaurant, don't even worry about the service; it's not the greatest but it gets the job done & the food is great--it's honestly such a nostalgia bomb for me. The dining experience, for those unfamiliar with it, is very interactive! It's spring roll style, every single dish that comes out is usually meant to be eaten in a spring roll that you get to create yourself. They bring the sauces and veggies out to your table so that you can build your own. My favorite is always the bo la lot, beef grilled in a Hawaiian (that's what it says on the menu, not sure what it is specifically in English!) leaf over charcoal. Eating so much beef can be heavy, but the amount of veggies that you can put in your spring roll offsets that completely! I always jam mine with lots of mint and rau răm (Vietnamese coriander). Next came the tray of different varieties of sausages, to which they added a beef pate to make it four instead of three. Finally it capped off with beef porridge as expected. If you are trying to stay away from red meat they also have the 7 courses of fish. You can order it as a set meal with all 7 courses or opt for the course you want a la carte. My husband and I have been coming here for 15 years. The staff is always so warm, welcoming and so attentive. I strongly recommend Anh Hong. First off, the food was just absolutely horrible. We ordered the following: Bun Mi Xao Thap Cam Rice Plate C Chien Ah Anh Hong Special Bo 7 mon Bun Mi Bo Kho All of the food was so salty and fishy. We had to constantly drink water. When we ordered, we asked for explanation what is what and they really could not provide us any details. In addition, the tables and floors were really sticky. Extremely disgusting. When the bill came, we got charged a "SERVICE FEE" of about 22% WITHOUT WARNING OR NOTICE. We only had 5 in our party (Not like we had 8 or more). No note stating there is a service fee on the menu or anywhere. Next, I pay using my credit card. Another 5% charge for that as well. Unbelievable and will never go back to this place. I love 7 course beef and I usually go to the location in Milpitas, but that location closes earlier so my family and I wound up in San Jose instead. The location itself is inside a plaza, tucked all the way to the back. Parking is abundant. The inside is bigger than I thought and they also have tables outside so I imagine lines could go quick here. We made a reservation prior to coming so once we got here we just had to wait for them to clean the table and we were set for a good meal. Besides 3 orders of the 7 course beef, we also got their deep fried catfish and chicken wings. The young server that was working was very attentive. There were a few times we had to flag someone down multiple times for the same thing. Food is solid, although the Milpitas location has more consistency in terms of overall presentation of food (i.e. the beef sausages were inconsistent in size, look like little footballs). Sometimes they forget to give us water but I like to remind them and then they'll get the water right away. We ordered the 5 course beef. The food was definitely enough for 4 people since we ordered for 4 people. My favorite is the grilled beef wrapped in the leaf, beef fondue and the beef salad. It looks like everyone still eats dinner on the weekend. It was pretty busy, but not really. It's just crowded since there was a table of like 10 or more people. Other than that, the environment was fine and where it was located. There's another location in Milpitas, too, if the San Jose one is too far for people. I will always come here again! I was nearby and thought that they are within the same family but was I wrong. I rather drive the distance to Milpitas from now on. The combination dish with the beef rolls were dry and tasted like the plate just came out of the microwave from warming up. The wait staff was not as attentive as Milpitas either.
