My absolutely favorite place whenever I craze for authentic Vietnamese Bún Mắm aka Fermented Fish Soup (#1 on the menu). In fact, I only order Bún Mắm when I come here and Bun Mam Ha Tien has the best Bún Mắm in San Jose, in my opinion. Starting with their portion. I ordered a small bowl but it filled me up! The portion was so generous and filled to the brims with delicious roasted porks, 2 full-size fish fillets, squid slices, 2 with-head-on jumbo shrimps, eggplant pieces and lots of garlic chives which I love. The soup has the right balance of sweetness from all the seafood goodies and the saltiness from the fermented fish. I drank my soup clean LOL. If you're not Vietnamese, the smell of the fermented fish may repulse you. However, I encourage you to give it a try as Bún Mắm here is as authentic as what you can get from Vietnam. The service was quick and attentive. As soon as I walked in, the server noticed me and let me choose the seat I wanted. Order was taken quickly and my food came out steaming hot within the next 3-5 minutes. The store is small yet cozy. They have 4 booths which can accommodate up to 4 people per booth. The other 7 tables are spaciously arranged. The store looks neat and tidy to me. I came around 11:30am on a Friday and it was not crowded at all. There were a few customers there but the noise level was minimal and I had a pleasant time. Highly recommend!

As the name of the restaurant, they really do have the best Bun Mam in town imo. Their flavour of bun ma is unmatched and I have tried quite a few places. Their crispy pork also is so good, thick and not too much fat!! Service is just homestyle and they do be attentive. Always come here for this dish

    1. Bún Mắm - Fermented fish soup with pork, fish, squid, shrimps, & eggplant.

Despite the prominent signs for boba tea, this is actually a family-owned restaurant whose main dish is a Vietnamese fish noodle soup called Bún Mắm. It is made with round spaghetti-like rice noodles, pork, fish, squid, shrimp, eggplant, pieces of tender fish mixed with multiple types of fermented fish paste. It is also served with lime and many fresh herbs and vegetables such as slivers of banana blossom, bean sprouts, lettuce and mint. I mostly order the #2 Bún Nươc Lèo Sóc Trăng, which is a plain fish and pork noodle soup without fermented fish paste that comes with a fried shrimp cake on the side. The broth is delicious and flavorful. I sometimes crave it when I'm not feeling well like chicken noodle soup. The service is on point and especially good if you speak Viet. It is a clean modern dining room with glossy white tables and colorful chairs. That said, the menus have English and this is a good experience for non-Viet people who want to try something other than pho. This place should really be more popular considering how good the food is. It's often half empty while other nearby restaurants are bustling. The boba signs and online description are confusing; from the outside you can't tell if it's a boba tea shop or a restaurant. In my opinion, they should split off the boba tea completely so that they can focus completely on marketing the Bún Mắm restaurant because it is a great dish that more people should know about.

Small store, 11 tables, 44 seats. Can get pretty humid on a jot and crowded day. I've been here twice and both times, and I've only seen women running the store. They were really nice, especially to my little one. They have high chairs and was gracious enough to bring us small pair of scissors and little bowl so I could portion out a small bite for my infant. If you're here for the fermented shrimp paste fish, be prepared to be visited by flies. They love that stuff. What we really came here for was for Simply Boba thats part of this restaurant. But I'll leave that for another review.

    Bun mam! Small size

This is our spot with my girlfriend. We've been coming here for over 10 years, but I never got around to leaving a review. We always order the same thing -- bún mắm! It's always delicious. The service is great, and they even have milk tea. Highly recommend!

Best bun mam I've had when it comes to eating outside of it being made at home. While that doesn't mean it was really good, it does speak volumes that this place is top tier compared to all of the other bun mam dishes I've had elsewhere [ranging from the Bay Area & SoCal]. My guy and I have a huge love for Vietnamese fermented noodle soup and with him raving about BMHT, I had to give it a go. The establishment is limited in size but accommodated our party of 3 well. Dinner consisted of: -Bun Mam [Large] $18.50 x2 -Mi Xao [stir fry egg noodles with chicken, pork, & shrimp] $16.95 -Coconut Special [Large] $8.50 x2 -Coconut Special [Regular] $7.50 Food came out quick and the bun mam fermented flavor was strong- which I like!! As a fair warning, I left here feeling extremely thirsty so the sodium/msg levels here seem to be very generous. The noodle portions are what really stood out- BUT IN A BAD WAY. For both bowls to be larger, the noodles were beyond shady. The shadiest noodle portions I've ever had. I literally had to ask an employee to verify whether or not the bowls were BOTH larges. They consist primarily of broth and if you want to remotely feel full, expect to dump the entire bowl of veggies to increase it's amounts. Mi Xao wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Flavoring was tasty but the protein wasn't appetizing. The shrimps used in the entire meal did not seem fresh. The pork and chicken pieces looked like scraggly/leftover bits. The plate also seemed to be filled with fillers of bean sprouts, cilantro, & garlic chives. 3 stars overall. BMHT's Coconut Special is highly recommended, it's delicious!!

Bún nước lèo Sóc trăng is a special soup for the Vietnamese living in the South of VN. The soup was ok with a good flavor but don't like the Tilapia filet fish ( frozen fish?) and Heo quay skin wasn't crunchy The bánh cống delicious. Service was okay. The restaurant was clean . The small bowl of the bún nước lèo Sóc Trăng is around 18 bucks...pricey !

Came for the BBH at Hue next door on a Sunday but it was overflowing. So decided to try this instead. Always thought it was just a boba shop but surprised to find it had interesting eats. Got a couple of bun mams and a crispy noodle. Topped off with the special coconut drink from the boba side. All very good and unique flavors. Would come back to try other stuff. This is a good option cos it's not as crazy busy but still very good. Service is nice. Just parking is nuts in this mall on weekends but there's always a space somewhere if you're willing to walk a little.

lunch on wedsnesday, was greeted, ordered quickly and food came quickly. taste was ok, but nothing special. the chili was not spicy at all. some restaurants have their own house made satay or dipping sauce to make their food stand out. but this place doesn't. that's the only thing missing from 5 stars.

Came here over the weekend because I was craving for bun mam and this is something I do not cook at home. We haven't been here in a long time but this is our spot we like to go to for bun mam. Surprisingly, we got there around 4pm and no one was eating inside. We ordered 2 bun mam large size and a chicken rice plate for our kids. The bun mam was tasty and to our liking. The chicken roti was not really roti style to me but tasted fine and my boys ate it. As we were eating, we saw customers come order togos and finally another customer came to dine in. Maybe it was an off hour but I hope business picks up for this restaurant! They also have a drink area as well

FLAVOR (2.5/5): Had #1 and #7, despite being know for their signature #1 we didn't find it very special. It started to taste too sweet after a few bites and the broth wasn't hot at all when served to us. For #7 you could tell the udon was store bought, frozen. A few slices of fish cake and lumps of 'shrimp'. Had to dump all my hot sauce in the broth in order to have some flavor. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (3/5): I love that they give individual portions of veggies per bowl. They have outdoor seating for COVID. SERVICE (2/5): Took out order and food came out in about 10-15 minutes. Didn't offer us any water or beverages to go with the meal. Didn't check up on satisfaction. Went in to pay for the bill - very typical Vietnamese noodle spot service. TAKE AWAYS: Had traditional versions of what they served in Vietnam, and these can't compete. Most likely won't be coming back to try their other dishes if their signature dish was already disappointing. $50 for 3 bowls, including tip.

We ordered their specialty noodle soup: Bun Mam with shrimp, fish, eggplant, and slices of roast pork in a simmering fermented fish broth. The veggies offered on the side were very fresh which I appreciated. The broth for bun mam is typically on the sweet side but their version is too sweet for me. The bowl of noodle soup is overpriced though, $17.50 for the small bowl and $18.95 for the large. The small bowl was a fair serving but I couldn't justify the price.

This is the first time I tried bún mắm and gotta say I am fairly impress. The broth is a fantastic combination between sweetness and spicy and the food itself was fantastic. My only gripe with this restaurant is that they clearly design this restaurant as a boba place first and a restaurant second. It is ashamed cause their food is ten times better than their boba tea.

My friend and I shared a Northern spread (Bun Cha Ha Noi) and a Southern style Goat Curry (Banh Mi Cari De). Service was definitely on the slower side that day, but thankfully we were proactive at getting the orders in. The Bun Cha Ha Noi was delicious - pretty much a DIY spring roll - all the fun, all the mess, with none of the clean up other than licking the plates clean. The pork belly was delicious; I was surprised how much I liked it, since I'm not a fan of pork. I devoured numerous rolls, and we also had some extra vermicelli to finish off the rest of the protein. This single meal was definitely more than enough for two! The Banh Mi Cari De (goat curry) was unfortunately quite the opposite. The goat was cooked very well - tough, gamy, and difficult to eat. There were probably six pieces in total, our first was tender, our second had bone, a little harder to chew, and the last was best compared to rubber. The curry was a bit watery, which made the banh mi soggy when dipped in. This was probably an adventurous try, but not a dish I'd ever consider ordering again.

The menu is pretty big, offering a variety of items ranging from mainstream Vietnamese options to ones I don't encounter as often. I recommend eating family-style for many of these dishes, including the Bún Chả Cá Lã Vọng, which I enjoyed with my partner. The prices are pretty average, and their portions are generous. One of the best pho spots in the Bay Area!…read more Food: 5/5 stars. Food is very hot! Just as it should be. Their Bun Ba Hue is fire! It has spice and rich flavors. Hits the spot and doesn't disappoint! Not too many people can make this dish as it should be made and they truly did a phenomenal job! Always a go-to. Their garlic chicken wings are amazing as well. It's the best out of all their flavors offered. Can't go wrong with ordering it. Crunchy, hot, slightly sweet and garlicky. Service: 5/5 stars. Greeted and seated quickly. Environment: 5/5 stars. Clean and plenty of space between tables. Bathroom is clean and tidy.

We ordered a large bun Bo hue, a large pho luc lac, fried rice with ribeye cooked medium level (as recommended), Bo luc lac with tomato flavored rice, and a chicken pho ap chao to share amongst 3 adults and 4 kids. Everything we ordered was delicious, tasty, and the portion size were very good and perfect for sharing. I was pleasantly surprised with the pho ap chao, it was really tasty and crispy and a dish I have not tried before. We really enjoyed everything but the Bo luc lac (shaken beef) was super tender and the beef was flavorful! This is a must try in my opinion! This restaurant is clean and tidy and has cute decors of bamboo hats hung from the ceiling and remind me of being back in Vietnam again. Staffs were attentive as customers entered. Plenty of parking spaces in the plaza. I will definitely come back here for everything I tried during my visit and to try more when in the area or on the way back from Santa Cruz. This will also be a great place to grab Togo for picnics or for hiking as well! My kids are already asking to come back to the restaurant after our first time there. So glad to know of another Vietnamese restaurant that has so many yummy dishes in SJ!

The standout dish was the egg rolls. They arrived hot, golden brown, and perfectly crisp, with a satisfying crunch and a flavorful filling that made them the best part of the meal. The food, however, wasn't the reason for my rating. The restaurant's cleanliness left me concerned. I noticed cobwebs that appeared to have been hanging in place for a long time, along with dirt and grime collecting in corners throughout the dining room. Even the menus felt sticky, with a visible film of grease and small food particles still clinging to them. The faded print and worn condition made them look as though they hadn't been replaced in years. Those details created an impression of neglect that made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. With a thorough deep cleaning and some updated menus, this restaurant could create a much more welcoming dining experience. Until then, the cleanliness issues overshadow what was otherwise an average meal.
