It's great that the doctor knows and appreciates that. I went with concerns about 3 itchy kitties, and now I'm down to 1. I'd rather 0, but we're still working on it, and this is still a vast improvement. I feel like we're on the right track instead of playing more of a guessing game as we were with her regular vet. Two minor complaints which were small mistakes both already fixed- they mixed up the antibiotics with the flea preventative, thinking I was supposed to go home with 4 bottles of Amoxidrops instead of 4 tubes of Bravecto. And they got me confused with another client with the same last name and added my pet to their client account. Ultimately both mistakes were caught, fixed, and resulted in no real consequence. read more

I brought my Golden Retriever to see Dr. Oldenhoff for a chronic ear infection. His ears were red, and he was in extreme pain. On the first visit, they took him to the back, gave me a few meds and sent us on our way. They didn't clean the ears, trim hair inside the ear canal, or do anything to make my dog more comfortable (and also allow the ear drops to reach the canal). This went on for three months, and after the ears continued to deteriorate, the doctor sat me down and basically said he didn't know what else to do. In addition, this vet clearly is not comfortable with dogs. He never once pet my dog, or got down on his knees to examine him. I've had dogs for 30+ years and have never had a vet actually move away from my dog as this doctor did. Chester is a friendly Golden who accepts handling easily, so there was zero reason to be fearful or uneasy. It is also impossible to communicate with the vet, other than at your appointment. All other communication is handled through an assistant who does not have a veterinary degree. Worst of all, after changing to a new clinic, the new vet immediately identified the fact that Chester had a allergic reaction to the ear flush Oldenhoff gave Chester. Chester had a history of sensitivity to flushes, which I shared with Oldenhoff, yet he never considered that what HE gave my dog was making it worse. I imagine Oldenhoff is a cat person (see his bio), so he may be excellent with them. But I would not recommend taking your dog to him. He clearly is not a dog specialist. My Golden has taken to the new vet's course of action, and is doing well. read more

I was sent there by my vet because my Yorkie had a couple little bumps on her back BUT no itching and her regular vet gave her an allergy shot I came home with a dog that is uncontrollably itching. We are going on a month and a half now I have done everything oatmeal bath chamomile bath baths. I brought them to this establishment $300 just for a consultation for him to tell me that he thinks I need to put her on Next guard and I had just administered her topical medication. I didn't buy the nexguard from them. I ended up buying it from chewys because I refuse to give this establishment any more of my money. She's 2 weeks since with Nex guard and still itching like crazy. Save your money and go somewhere else. We're actually people are educated not just sitting there for the $300 consultation for a 10 minute visit and absolute waste of information. Complete morons. And trust me I know EVERYBODY IN LA!! I have warned all my valley dog parent friends! I think there is a massive problem with our entire medical system, there ar doctors they aren't really trained the way that they are in another countries, why we do things that Europeans wouldn't or people in Japan wouldn't, they're reasons for that. It's a money making business as long as that doctor pushes that medication that company gives him a commission he up charges. We went looking for solutions for our dog, seasonal itch, most likely caused by flea bites. Trying to avoid drugging our baby more than necessary, we were hoping to find some more natural solutions. What we found was an incredibly dogmatic and curt Doctor who seemed bothered by our interest in discovering a more natural path. Anyhow, I probably would've left it at that, but since he took the time with us and charged us $225, I thought I'd take the time here to share that I found the whole experience with Dr. Oldenhoff unpleasant. They are not cheap, and I have to say, we were very disappointed, although the staff was very nice, but ultimately they were not of much help. They had done a biopsy on another abscess so I took my dog back to remove the stitches, and I asked to have them check an open wound caused by a bursted abscess, and remove the dead tissue. When my dog was brought back, they had removed the bandages I had put on her, not sure exactly what they did. They neglected to tell me anything about the open wound until I asked if they had removed the tissue. Then I was told they couldn't do it, that I needed to take my dog to a surgeon to remove the dead tissue. They were able to do a biopsy, remove that tissue, but couldn't remove dead tissue, in a dermatology center? That certainly was disappointing read more

Don't book with Dr Werner. Save your time & money. Go literally anywhere else. There are quite a few things I could say about this office and the way that they operate. But let's just focus on today when I reached a "final straw" moment. I came in for a scheduled skin biopsy, which no one from the office told me my dog needed to be fasting for. When I arrived I thought that maybe I should ask if she would be going under some kind of anesthesia and they said, yes and they needed to discuss with Dr Werner. At this point Dr Werner decided the biopsy was not needed and wanted to discuss this with me to change the plan. He tells me he wants to change her medication instead? I say ok and check out at the front desk. I asked for an itemized receipt because they tell me my total is almost 300.00 (almost the same cost of the biopsy). I'm shocked. They're charging me for an office visit for the 5 minutes of Dr Werner changing the plan and telling me. I ask the front desk why I'm being charged for a visit when this wasn't a visit. If the doctor wants to change the plan that's fine but I shouldn't be charged for him simply telling the new plan. She asked the doctor if they could waive the fee considering the fact this was not an office visit. He said no. That's how Dr Werner operates. Oh, also, on their paperwork it says "call if you have any questions." But every time I called and had a question when his recommended treatment plans weren't working the front desk will tell you "Dr Warner doesn't do telehealth." So just know your questions and concerns are considered telehealth. This is only a fraction of the concerns I've had with this office. I've spent thousands of dollars here and still no result. As a nurse, I expect my concerns to be heard and for some reason the doctor seemed to think I was more concerned with the hair loss on my dog (which I said I was aware is common in doxies, but my veterinarian also said the level of my doxies baldness was abnormal). The focus was not on what I was truly concerned about- I said multiple times I was concerned with the hives, facial swelling, and vomiting that sent my dog to the ER. Doctor was not concerned and offered no further testing to find what the culprit was... Pretty severe allergic reaction that caused FACIAL SWELLING. Just avoid that product--Oh really, you don't say *eye roll*. My dog isn't even two years old and to have two cases of allergy/ sensitivity and one severe enough that could cause anaphylaxis with that amount of facial swelling if exposed again, you would think we would investigate further- but no, just a $200 bill to look at her hair under a microscope and talk about her baldness. If you're truly concerned about a severe anaphylactic reaction in your pet- I would suggest going somewhere else. As a nurse, I know facial swelling is not a good sign but apparently (and yes I will say it for a fourth time), they don't seem to think so here. Office is clean and run well, easy appointment. Care or expectation of care received was VERY poor. read more

I adopted a pittie with severe skin issues and had taken her to several vets with some success but Dr Werner managed to get her the right dosage of antibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs. He Started screaming " you're fired " over and over again- eyes bulging , For no reason and then stormed out. Hand to God! My dear boy passed away about a year ago, but long before that just a few months into having him, he lost the ability to walk and we went to all kinds of specialist to figure out what was going on. At another spot we were quoted for a surgery we just simply couldn't afford. My husband ended up calling the wrong office (like I said we went to so many) and let Dr. Werner's office know we would be unable to do the surgery (for another vet lol) that was suggested. Well Dr Werner came up with a plan at a price that was so much more doable for a young couple. We were heart broken we might not get much more time with him prior to this call, we hadn't even had him 6 months. But Dr. Werner came in and gave us more options. He fixed up my boys inner ear and he never had the same issue again. We got four more glorious years with our Tyrus because of this office doing what they could for him, after thinking we would lose him so soon after he stumbled onto our door step. Dr. Werner gave us what every pet parents want, more time with the sweetest guy. After calling around for a veterinary dermatologist, I chose ADC. They were friendly and accommodating, fitting my dog into their busy schedule quickly. I can't tell you how refreshing it was to talk to someone who truly cared about getting my pup an appointment and getting him the help he needs. Another reason I chose them? They offer cryosurgery! My 12 year old guy can't be put under anesthesia unless absolutely necessary; he'll need a couple treatments to remove a growth but I'm so happy he didn't have to be put under. The Best reason? I can honestly say I am truly happy with my experience. I literally drove from the Big Bear Mountains after dealing with my cats issue. I truly love my personal vet but he couldn't diagnose my kitty. We saw Dr. Werner for about a year for our dog's environmental allergies. He helped us figure out the best medication for her and always made sure she was getting the best care for her allergies. We tried immunotherapy, atopica, and apoquel. We appreciate that he worked with us to figure out how to best help her with the knowledge we had about her allergies. He and the front desk staff (Cynthia and Bonnie in particular) were always kind and friendly with our girl which made her happy to be there which is no easy feat. Dr. Werner was also the vet that helped us figure out what was going on with our girl when her health declined with what we thought was a hystiocytoma. He was very gentle and careful with her and that truly makes all the difference when your dog is ill. I'm a type A mom so I had ALL the questions and follow up questions and he always answered them. Beyond Dr.Werner's care we always appreciated Bonnie's kindness - in person and on the phone. Once we got a cancer diagnosis, she asked to be kept updated about our girl even though we weren't actively working with Dr. Werner due to the new diagnosis. She spoke with me and gave me guidance and promised to keep dr.Werner updated. She also always made sure to reach out to vets when in need of records which always helped because not all vet offices are always on top of that. She is truly a one of a kind person that went above and beyond and that's not easy to find in veterinary medicine especially since she works the front desk and didn't have to spend that time speaking with me. The only thing I wish had been different was how they informed us that her cytology report was positive for cancer. I got a call on a Monday morning from a man, maybe a lab tech (I believe his name was Chris but I'm not sure - we'd never spoken before) and he just said "the report came back consistent with cancer, dr. Werner suggests contacting an oncologist". Normally for a call about results I'm used to a doctor informing me, not some random guy I've literally never spoken to. It was also heartbreaking news and to have it delivered so straightforward without any consolation (no "I'm sorry" "I know this is hard" etc) was a bit jarring. But I don't want this to reflect on the center as a whole because they were always good to her and truly gave the best care we could hope for with her allergies. Dr. Werner and his staff were nothing short of amazing. My pup was suffering from a mysterious case of hair loss and some sort of skin infection. Dr. Werner was very thorough during our initial consultation. He reviewed my dog Caleb's medical files, asked me very detailed questions, inspected the dog carefully, and, most importantly, he was so sympathetic and caring throughout the consultation. He answered every question and explained the course for treatment. Dr. Werner even collaborated with my primary vet to make sure the medications were dosed correctly. I was very impressed and touched by the level of care he provided. The treatment was a huge success. Within a week, my dog's skin was noticeably better. By the time we returned at the one month follow up, the infection was nearly cleared out and his coat was regrowing. He provided more advice for the continued care and recovery. Caleb's coat is better than it's been in over three years and he smells A LOT better. I am so grateful to Dr. Werner and his staff for helping my little buddy get all better. On another note: the office is clean and very professionally run. It took a couple weeks to get the initial appointment, but that's because it's a specialized practice and his services are in high demand (there aren't many animal dermatologists in Los Angeles). Literally can't say enough positive things about ADC and Dr. Boyd. Today was my first visit here, after seeing 3 other vets for my dog's skin condition. First off, every single staff member was friendly, welcoming, efficient, and clearly love their jobs. I think I interacted with 5 different people (mostly just saying hi to my dog) and each one was absolutely wonderful. Not only was Dr. Boyd so nice and friendly, she was obviously incredibly knowledgeable and thorough. She took her time to understand my concerns, and was still efficient. I didn't feel pressured to go with some big expensive treatment, she was honest about what our options were and the best course of treatment (and all prices were super reasonable!) I could literally cry from relief at finding Dr. Boyd after 2 years of trying to get help for my dog. Thank you so much!! It's also worth noting during covid times, that the office was very clean, pens were sanitized after each use, social distance, etc. All guidelines were followed and I felt very safe! read more

I was referred to ADC by my dog's vet to treat his extreme skin allergies & chronic skin infection. Dr. Werner has been "treating" my dog, Glacier, for well over 6 months now. I've easily spent thousands of dollars at this clinic and all I got from it was a dead dog. Dr. Werner diagnosed Glacier with an antibiotic resistant staph infection. There were two antibiotics that could potentially treat it. One of them that had a potential side effect of leg weakness & Rifampin (known to cause liver toxicity). We tried him on the former and within days, he was slipping on the stairs so we promptly stopped the treatment. My wife and I wanted to avoid using Rifampin at all costs so we embarked on a 5 month journey of a topical treatment that included bathing him once a day with medicated shampoo, spraying him multiple times a day with chlorhexidine solution, changing his diet, etc. After a while, his lesions started to disappear. Unfortunately, the infection returned a month later (worse)-- it spread all over his body and had gotten so bad that he was chewing himself bloody. We brought him back in to discuss starting Rifampin. I made it very clear that my priority was keeping my dog alive so at the earliest potential sign of liver toxicity, we needed to stop the treatment immediately. The doctor did a liver panel, Glacier's results came back normal so we began the treatment. The following week, we did a second liver panel. Results were normal. Third week however the results came back abnormal enough to make the doctor want to cut his dosage in half. The liver panel results were NEVER disclosed to me. I had to call the office to ask for them and was only told that the doctor had recommended cutting his dosage down. That made me worry. I asked if his liver panel was elevated and was only met with vague reassurance that everything was okay and that cutting his dosage was merely precautionary. The following two days, Glacier stopped eating his breakfast. The next morning (Thurs), I called the vet and expressed my concern and asked if we should stop the meds. They spoke to Dr. Werner and called me back saying that loss of appetite was a common side-effect associated with Rifampin, not to worry, and insisted I continue giving him the course of antibiotic, only to stop if he stops eating entirely. Friday morning, he didn't eat, we cooked him some chicken that night and he ate that. This was the last time he would ever eat again. Saturday & Sunday, he ate nothing so we stopped giving him the pills. He was drinking a lot of water, urinating frequently, was very lethargic, didn't even want to go for walks. I knew something was seriously wrong. That Monday morning, I went to ADC for his liver panel. When the lab tech came out, he didn't go into details about what the results showed. He just said his liver enzymes were elevated and that we should get him to a doctor. He said he'll need some support but assured me his enzymes would stabilize in a few weeks. I brought my dog to his vet who was vexed at the way ADC handled everything. She explained in great detail what the liver panels were showing and gave us the horrible news that his liver enzymes were so high, they weren't even registering. He was hospitalized immediately. The following day, his condition worsened and he was transferred to a specialty hospital. He was diagnosed with acute hepatitis. We kept him there until Saturday morning when he was discharged. The hospital told me there was nothing more they could do--his liver had completely failed, his kidneys started to fail too. They ran so many tests to see if there was something else at the root of this, their final determination was that Rifampin single-handedly was at fault for his liver failure. $15,000 in hospital bills, we carried my weak dog up the stairs to my apartment so that he could at least pass away in the safety and comfort of his own home. Three weeks ago, he was completely healthy. A five year old dog, with so much life left to live. I am not blaming Dr. Werner for giving him the Rifampin. Please understand this. I am blaming him for not being attentive to the red flags that were so CLEARLY waving in his face. I'm blaming them for not disclosing the liver panel results. If I had known his enzymes were even slightly elevated, I would have stopped the treatment and my dog might still be alive. His regular doctor, who has seen him only 4 times, approaches him with such thoughtful care & attention because it doesn't take a genius to figure out that my dog has a very sensitive system. So when you're giving him such a harsh antibiotic as Rifampin, I expected his dermatologist who has seen him more times than any other doctor on earth, to approach him with that same level of care. I am devastated. And I have to live with the guilt of his premature death. I wish I could turn back time, I wish I had listened to my gut, but instead I listened to the professionals who kept telling me to continue on. read more

I came here to review the great customer service I received from Nicole for my dog Bear. I made an appointment with her last month because my dog was having some skin issues. The first available date was early November which I took, but I asked her to please let me know if something sooner opened up. Honestly, I assumed she would forget so I didn't get my hopes up too high. But Nicole called me today and said that there was an opening and she had put me on the waitlist. Dr. Oldenhoff  is the worst pet dermatologist I have ever seen.  My dog suddenly lost a ton of hair, had huge open wounds and was in horrible pain.  I had taken him to his vet and urgent care within a few days and called every vet within a 20 miles radius and was able to get in to see  Dr. Oldenhoff.  The vet assistant asked me some questions and took my poor guy to the back.  The Dr came in and said my dog has an auto-immune disorder that is controlled by prednisone but would still need to do a biopsy.  I asked if it could be right then and there and he said no.  He was going on vacation that night and told me to wait until he is oozing pus and for him to get back from his trip. I asked for more prednisone (I had a few days left from urgent care) and he said no. The appt was 15 minutes, I didn't even see him look at my dog once and I was charged almost $500.  My poor dog was in such miserable pain we ended up going to another urgent care that night to get stronger pain meds -  they recommended seeing another dermatologist which is impossible to schedule quickly.  Anyway, we had to put my poor baby to sleep over this because he was in such miserable pain.  I am SICK to my stomach wondering if this is something that could have been fixed with medicine.  If I had seen a Dr who actually gave a crap and cared about my dog more than his trip - my dog would still be alive! Shame on Dr Oldenhoff and shame on Animal Dermatology Center for employing a Dr with such horrible bedside manner. read more

My dog has had allergy issues for years resulting in rashes, infections, and constant scratching. We had been to the vet many times and his issues were addressed but going to Animal Dermatology allowed us to deep dive and really address the root cause for long term treatment. This business is absolutely wonderful. I am always able to get an appointment even when last minute issues arise, everyone is friendly and kind and treats my dog with so much patience and love, and Dr. Werner is punctual, professional, explains everything clearly with an easy-to-understand plan and the rationale behind it and clearly loves animals. I REALLY like this place. And the new Dr. on board - Dr. Boyd - is a BIG win. She's FANTASTIC! I mean it's never a good thing to have to take your dog to the vet, but at least when you have to it's nice to have people you like and trust. The staff is phenomenal. Not just saying that - they're really, really good. They go above and beyond on a regular basis. And I have to give a special shout out to Bonnie, Cynthia and Taylor. They've done SO much to help me over the years. When I originally started taking my dogs here, Dr. Werner was the only dermatologist. He was awesome! Incredibly knowledgeable, caring and kind. But with a VERY crowded schedule. I needed to get in fast, so I agreed to see the new Dr. Very happy with that decision. She obviously LOVES the animals and what she does. She is an absolute gem! Usually a good experience coming here to be greeted by Bonnie and Madison. Dr. Werner has been very helpful with our pup's allergies the past 2 years. Unfortunately, they hired someone named Vanessa at reception who I dealt with during my last visit. Stank face, rude demeanor and pure arrogance. Madison must have overheard because they took over from there. Vanessa went to answer phone calls snapping at others as well, saying "be patient with me, IT'S BUSY" and violently hanging up the phone. If she is the new face of the establishment, I don't know if I want her around my dogs or myself. I hope management has a chat with her or she gets a new job elsewhere where she will be happy. read more

I normally do not like to leave negative reviews, but after my encounter with this clinic this is a well deserved review. I took my dog to get reseen for her allergy issues. When I got there for the visit, they did my dog's exam in the back which I thought was pretty weird because usually exams are done in the room with the owner but whatever no big deal. What made me really upset is that they performed two procedure on my dog without my knowledge or consent. I was told about the procedures after they were done. I have a right to know what is being done to my dog and I have a right to choose if I want those procedures even performed. If they would of just presented me with their plan of care this whole situation could have been avoided. I ended up having to pay for those procedures and I was really upset that I requested a refund because I never consented to those procedures. After going back and fourth of me being upset the owner Dr. Werner gave me my money back but proceeded to become an immature individual and told his staff to ask where I would want my records sent to because he was no longer going to see my dog as a patient. It is so unfortunate that he does not have any respect for his clients and at this point only cares about the money and not his patients. It's sad to see that this facility cannot own up to their wrongdoing and make it right with their clients because at the end of the day without the clients he wouldn't have a business. I am very happy that I will not be taking my dog to this clinic because I don't want my animals to be seen by a clinic who has no respect for their clients or their patients. This might be one of the best animal specialists I have been too. And I am picky and analytical. Dr. Is very logical in his approach. He reminds me of my parents doctors that gave you an answer that was sound and spent time with you. I went to three general practitioners. They each wanted to put my dog under general anesthesia and had no idea what was going on. Dr. Identified the growths(non malignant) right away and said he didn't need general anesthesia. The cost of the general practitioners was well over $1000. But the Dr only charged me $300 + I requested pathology and high was another $300. My pet had a very low impact day and the stitches didn't really bug him. A great find. Please visit him. read more

I first took my dog to Dr. Werner about 3.5 years ago for a mystery skin condition my dog had, after being seen by 3-4 different GPs, with not only no results, but no answers. His first appointment, and the doctor figured out very quickly that my dog has an autoimmune disease. It's worth restating that he had seen a few doctors, sometimes multiple times, without any guesses as to what it was. My dog's disease made him developed crusts, pustules, and a terrible itch that would make him scratch till he'd bleed, and then some. The before picture is a representation of what his entire body looked like. Brutus (my dog) has now been clear of his symptoms for over a year now, and has grown back the vast majority of his hair, making him look like an actual dog, and not a walking scab. I entirely thank the great doctor, and his very sweet staff, who worked me to pay for his treatment. Brutus is healthy now, and is back to his happy self. read more
