We brought our dog in with an apparently sprained foot. The folks were very nice, obviously caring about animals. We waited maybe 45 min for the vet to finish stitches on a cut dog... I have no problem with that. We are, after all, looking for after hours care and so is anyone else who has a pet problem late at night. They examined our pet and gave us two meds to give her plus som good advice on care. The bill was 140 and the last time we took a pet in to a similar hospital the bill was more than twice this. Although I am not a fan of any ER be it for myself or my pet. But, I am glad to say that the experience I had this past weekend did end in a somewhat positive. Ben our cat was not feeling good since Thursday. We attempted to get him into his vet, but they were closed Friday. We took Ben to this ER on Sunday. We were promptly greeted by a kind and professional young woman. She gathered all info needed and had us fill out info (address, pets info as well). During this time two urgent situations occurred. Two different family's with dogs that were needing treatment asap. We had no problem waiting. It's an ER and sometimes these things happen. Please note Ben, was taken back fairly quickly. Going into this we thought he may have a UTI, but we were not entirely sure. We knew Ben's actions were not the norm. We had a conversation with the Doctor and she gave suggestions with options. We went ahead and got him throughly checked over (blood work and exrays ect.). Results - UTI, meds, and food diet change prescription. I thank Dr.Cassandra Van Nieuwal for saving our boys life. She was kind and caring. Sunday was a very busy day in that ER. I prayed for everyone's animals as well as our boy. I am thankful for this ER and their professionalism. At a different veterinary - last year our boy Levi was not diagnosed properly (nor attempted to be diagnosed) and in a matter of days he deteriorated. We brought him to this ER. They did what they could. But, unfortunately, due to the lack of diagnosis from a loval vetinary office and staff on Nova, our boy Levi didn't stand a chance. Subsequently, I am thankfully that Levi is no longer in pain and we got to say our goodbyes (very heartbreaking). Do not bring your pet here! At the moment I walked through your doors in crisis with my dog, I was asked for payment before any life-saving care was initiated. There was a profound lack of compassion, urgency, and humane communication during what was one of the most traumatic moments of my life. My dog died within one hour of arrival. Emergency care should prioritize immediate medical intervention and empathy, not financial transactions at the threshold of loss. The receptionist Sylvia that speaks like a robot and asks for $1500 every two minutes has terrible bedside manner. If you care about your pet, do not come here. We recently moved to Florida, and noticed one of our cats was hiding, and acting sickly. After researching vets in the area, we found that there weren't any immediate appointments available with anybody. We decided to take her to this emergency animal hospital as it was close, and open on a Sunday. For whatever reason, this facility requires customers and their furry patients wait outside and call upon arrival. We arrived at 11:15 for our 11:30 appointment time. A staff member came out fairly quickly, asked a few questions, then took our cat back with her in a carrier. So far so good. Sadly, that's where the good ended. There was NO communication from staff whatsoever for HOURS. No updates, no nothing. We ended up calling at 2:30 (still waiting in the parking lot), to be told our pet had been examined, but that the vet still had to talk with us. We waited another hour, and called back at 3:30. The person who answered abruptly put us on hold and retrieved the vet. The vet was friendly, and had many recommendation on tests, etc. The prices were not just excessive - they were borderline insane! After much deliberation with the staff, they agreed to treat minimally, until we could establish with a local vet. Anti-inflammatory pills, and liquid antibiotics were prescribed. More time passed - it would be after 5pm - NEARLY SIX HOURS LATER, that we had our pet back in the truck. Six hours for an exam and two scripts - absolutely mind-boggling, and a complete waste of time for all involved. At NO POINT did anyone inform us of the wait time. There was NO communication from staff - no updates, no progress reports - NOTHING. A call or text would have been very professional on their part! We had to make all the calls. If we hadn't called, we might still be waiting there now! The sign outside the office warning customers about their "behavior", as well as the filthy port-a-potty for customer use should have been big red flags - I missed them both. My advice to customers would be: 1. Don't bring your pet here unless they are SEVERELY ill, in pain, suffering, or actively dying. 2. Come here prepared to wait. Bring food, water, and entertainment. 3. Don't bring your kids (see #2 above). 4. If you do come here, be prepared to pay high prices. 5. Re-read tip #1. My advice to the business would be to COMMUNICATE with your customers - keep them in the loop, and be honest about potential wait times and/or delays due to more serious emergencies coming in. Given how much you charge for your services, you should be able to afford to hire another person to update customers, thereby freeing up your other staff. Just a suggestion. read more

I am so grateful for the Animal Emergency Hospital. We went this weekend for our jack russel/chi mix. We had trimmed her nails and one just was cut too short. We tried everything and couldn't get it to stop and it's crazy how much blood there was. She's not a big dog (well a bit on the heavy side) and it became very concerning just how much blood she was losing. Another wonderful visit in a time when your fur baby is not feeling well. The routine since 2020 COVID is to pull up airside at the spots labeled 1-10 and call the number. You can fill out the intake form online or they will bring it out to you to fill out. Then a tech will come out and take your info and what is wrong. The vet calls you in a bit with the exam and a plan. You get pricing up front and can agree or disagree to what you want. Our Vet today was Dr. Bogosian and she was great. The staff we felt with in person were all great as well. I would recommend bringing folding chairs so you can have a place to sit in a shaded spot rather than sitting in your car with the engine running for 1 to 3 hours depending on how long it takes. I took my 11 year old beagle (Freckles) to this facility on two separate occasions. The first time I chose to treat the symptoms. She did well for five weeks, but the problems returned. On her second visit, I chose to have blood work and x-rays completed which I should have done the first time. Fraud! I took my sick cat there at the recommendation of a vet (because the vet was too busy). They took the cat in from the parking lot (like we are still full COVID lockdown) and pet "parents" were not allowed in the building. They called in 12 minutes (no way they had time evaluate him) and said they would keep him 60 hours and the bill would be $4000 WITHOUT me ever meeting the vet or any techs! This is for a cat who was playing, and eating an hour ago. The staff was rude and hateful when I asked them to bring the cat out so I could get him care someplace else. They called me "incompetent" (wrong use of word) when I asked again to bring my cat out. I would not take a dead opossum there much less a beloved pet. FOLLOW-UP: I immediately took my sweet cat to another vet. I was treated with respect, got to go inside, speak at length with the vet and staff. My cat was treated and the same procedure was $1200. I took him home the same day. And he is well! The ERHV is a horrible place and use extortion and cruelty in the most difficult times. One of my TNR kitties had his rear leg run over by a neighbor. He disappeared for a couple of days. When he came home we brought him to the emergency vet hospital. The staff is so very professional and amazingly kind. My boy had to have surgery to put his leg back in place. He is only 6 months old and has his whole life still to love on me. Obviously I went for the surgery option. The only other option was euthanasia which was not appropriate in this case. Yes it cost money to perform surgery and overnight care. The bill ran me $5k. Yes that is alot of money but reality is, it is not alot of money when you think about it. These are medical professionals with lots of overhead to operate a 24/7 365 days a year emergency animal hospital. Everything in this world is so expensive. Heck, how much is a stay in a human hospital overnight. Vets are doctors too with all the same kind of overhead to pay for. I know the money part can be difficult but it is more about the quality of life for the pet. The doctor was so caring and genuinely concerned. Ok the wait time when you arrive can be excruciating BUT you get to wait in your vehicle so you can talk on the phone, watch tv, listen to music, take a snooze. This is no different then taking your human loved one to an emergency hospital. You wait in a waiting room for hours before you know whats going on. Doctors, nurses and staff have many others they are trying to help, diagnose and triage, all behind the scenes. So give them a break and let them do their work with a clear head, not with someone being nasty or rude to them prior to maybe your pets surgery. Remember that the outcome of your pet may not always be what we hope for and that is not the doctor's fault so don't take it out on them. You will still owe the bill even if your pet passes same as you would with a hospital for humans. FYI my bionic boy is coming home today. Thank you Animal Emergency Doctors and Staff. Remember you have to visit your pet during their hospital stay to encourage them just as you would your visit your human loved one in a hospital. We've had to bring our boy Bub here 3 times now. The first time, they saved Bub's life. He was lethargic with labored breathing and pale gums. They wasted no time getting him back and taking care of him. They had to drain fluid from a sack that had formed around his heart. They kept us very informed the entire time we were there. They referred us the UF Animal Hospital in Gainesville to get further testing and treatment, and made sure we had all the info we needed before we went. At UF they confirmed he has Hemangiosarcoma, so they did surgery to remove the mass from his heart. A week after surgery, one of his incisions were infected, so I took Bub back to Animal Emergency Hospital Volusia, and they saw us right away. Got his incision cleaned up, and gave us ideas to help keep it clean since it was on his belly and touches the ground frequently. Just today, I took him back again because he seemed very tired and out of breathe. Since he just had his first chemo treatment i just wanted them to check his heart out to make sure everything was okay. They took him back right away again, checked him out, and the. Took the time to give me information on supplements that I can get that will help him as his cancer progresses. Our 1 1/2 year old goldendoodle had to have 12 stitches under her hind hip/leg area. $700 plus antibiotics and tramadol. We expected that. She kept her Elizabethin collar on. The next morning she got up and we noticed a stitch was loose. We called and were told,"no problem, it happens all the time". Ugh, so I took her back in thinking it would be a simple fix. Wrong! The vet said they had to redo everything. Vet assured me it wouldn't cost as much. Wrong! Actually it was more. I couldn't see how she could have gotten an infection that fast...she was still drowsy from surgery and on antibiotics. I was nice and held my tongue but told vet that I did not want a continual stitch but each individual stitch tied and cut. Her response was, "that will take more time". If the vet would have taken her age, breed and activity level into consideration I feel we would not have had to repeat the danger of anesthesia 2ce. My dog was docile and just got up and we watched her like a hawk. There was no activity that would have broken the stitch f it was done properly. THEN we came in to have stitches out. They said, "no charge". I just looked at them like , duh. She of course has a hard scar and will for a while but we just noticed now that the area has softened that they left a stitch in! On 10/27 I had to unexpectedly had to put my poor girl down after calling around I chose to go here after being quoted $410 over the phone for euthanasia and private cremation in tears I asked the price and that's what was given to me. After arriving they took her to a room and placed me and my family in another then came back to tell me it was going to be almost $900 I was shocked and upset but ultimately realized I would not be able to pay this much considering it was a surprise we had not prepared for, when I told the technician I needed her back and would not be able to pay they told me I had to pay and I could "just get care credit" her and her entire nice demeanor and tone had changed the moment I wasn't able to pay 900 she started behaving as if we were children and she a principle, she started to say we needed to apply to credit lines and basically started refusing us our animal once I was upset she then said all I had to pay was 105 for the examination and by exam they meant taking her back into a room for less than three minutes to agree with the very visible and obvious signs I had already stated at this point because of how I was being treated I was irritated and felt the $105 wasn't okay (also they told me the quote never happened and went to listen to the call where the woman did indeed tell me it was 410 but then they said I clearly asked the wrong questions even though I didn't. But they didn't want to have to admit that so they instead told me while I was in tears there and over the phone that it was my mistake after about 15 mins of arguing I finally paid the 105 the lady at the front desk was clearly already cued in on how to treat us because she was so nasty and disgusting to me it was insane slamming pens and short answered and quite literally yelling at me for asking simple questions. After I paid they finally gave me my dying dog who was now hyperventilating and shaking as we got her in the car. I would never ever ever go her ever again I don't trust people who see sick animals as an opportunity to price gouge and make people feel like bad pet parents for not being able to cough up and extra 900 The vet and the techs were awful the only kind on was the original woman checking us in she honestly seemed mostly afraid of any of them. Twice now this ER has saved my precious princess' life. The technicians and doctors here are extremely impressive with their care, knowledge, and customer service. They are constantly busy yet still manage to speak to customers with kindness and good manners. My 10 pound YorkiePoo was attacked by my friend's 50 pound dog right in front of me and thanks to this ER, my lil' princess is still with me. Yes it's expensive but that is life and that is owning a pet. If you are not okay with the prices just remember that this is an animal emergency hospital open 24 hours 7 days a week 365 days a year... it's not the dollar tree. This place is a disaster. They don't know what they are doing. They lie. They refuse to give you records or lab reports. Do not take your pet here! I was given a diagnosis over the phone while on my car in the parking lot- after having been there over 5 hours. They would not release the lab results to me or my regular vet so we had to retest only to find out they LIED! What they told me was wrong can't even be found in the type of test they did. So I had to pay extra to find out because they lied and would not release the records. It's been 3 days and they still won't. I never even spoke to a vet. They tech I spoke to had no idea what she was doing. And their front office staff is incredibly rude!! Do not take your pets there. I promise you will regret it! I WILL BE FILING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!!! IF YOU HAVE A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH THESE AWFUL PEOPLE PLEASE REACH OUT!!I took my 1 year old pug to this ER around midnight for his poops and lack of appetite. I tell them when we got there. He just finished a whole bowl of food 10 minutes prior. They still tell me they wanna run bloodwork and x-rays. They come out 45 minutes later and tell me that the x-rays were unclear because of the food that he just ate but if I gave you a notice that he just ate run the x-rays? they then told me to come back the next day after pre-paying for the x-rays and told me I had to pay another $300 that following day for more x-rays. The x-rays produced nothing and they told me that the obstruction had moved past what they were worried about. They gave me medication to give him. But failed to tell me that they were giving me the highest possible dose. They told me to give it to him twice a day every day for a week at 250 mg per dose. after doing the correct calculations, my dog should've only been receiving 280 mg in an entire day not 500 and one of the very first side effects of this medication is seizures that was never brought up to me and my dog ended up having two while we were not home and he was being watched by a sitter confronted with me and my number because we were talking to them. We called again a separate number to get the doctors name prescribed the medication and refused to tell me about the side effects and they refused to give that to me and hung up again and said they would call the police for harassment if I called back if you value your pets, do not take them here they will take your money and your life from you in the same night. They don't care about your dog, just their money and they're 2.5 stars if one person sees this and changes their mind it's a win to me. We went to the ER in East Volusia, and they diagnose the toxicity from the medication that they gave us. This hospital is being sued from malpractice and hopefully won't be over more than the next six months. read more

Dr. Luiz Bolfer is the most incompetent, uneducated, unethical "Veterinarian" I've ever met. As a Vet Tech, what he did to my dog- without consulting me first or getting consent for the treatment he used. He used a long term care bandage with adhesive glue on my dogs head and face to be used for 24 hours. He fused my dogs ear to his head with bandages so when they were removed the clots would burst and send him right back to their facility to do the EXACT cauterizing treatment with no pain medicine, all over again. Do not trust this facility. What they do is cruel and unusual. As a vet tech, I would NEVER treat an animal this way. It is sickening and frightening. read more

Currently sitting in the parking lot waiting for the police because they won't give me my cat back! They discussed no price with me for an exam. Brought my cat that just had kittens in to make sure all of the kittens were out. They come out get my card still not giving me any prices. Then they come back with a receipt of $150. They did nothing. I understand a nominal fee but now they're refusing to give me my animal back. They stated it would be a total 500 with X-rays. I ask how much the x-rays are. They charge $400 for an x-ray. They completely take advantage of people in their time of need. I stated I did not have the money for that so I could not move forward. They bring my card back with $150 charge. If the total was 500 and the exam should've only been $100 because the x-rays are $400. They're refusing to give me my cat back so I'm sitting here waiting for the police so I can at least get a police report and I will make sure to blast them on every social media outlet that I can find!. Furthermore just received my cat. Got my police report I will be disputing my credit card. They left the dead fetus in the box with my cat and her kittens. There are other emergency hospitals I strongly suggest going to those. You did not discuss any fees with me before hand. I pulled up you took my cat in told me to go to my car and you would call me. You then said it would be $500 to which I said no. You did not discuss any fee with me I told you don't touch my cat I'll take the cat to my vet. I have filed a complaint with the state attorney general I have also made a complaint with Volusia County. You are crooks! I've had seven people email me telling me you did the same thing to them. I advised all of them to follow complaints with the state attorney and the Better Business Bureau as well. You should be shut down for your dishonest business practices!! Furthermore the police officer did not advise me to sign the receipts. He told me it was a civil matter and to take you to small claims court. He said it was absolutely ridiculous that you were holding my cat and her new born kitten hostage when you didn't do anything! He also started laughing when you said to trespass me off the property. He said I'm not going to trespass you off the property until they give you back your animal that's ridiculous! At no point did I raise my voice at no point was I aggressive I made it very clear what I thought of your establishment. Don't worry I will not be back I have found another emergency hospital should I need it. Every time I have come to your facility I've picked my animal up a few days later in a bag because you did nothing for them but cremate them. When my daughter Dara brought her dog in, you said it ate a tampon and the sting wrapped around its stomach. Without hesitation I was down there paying $4800 for my daughters dog. So it's not a matter of the money. I spend more than 155 dollars on candy crush in a week! This is a matter of principle!! read more

My dog was bit with large deep laceration under eye. Waited 2 hrs no one even looked at my dog. Was told dr had 3 surgeries ahead of us. Would have waited 8 or more hours so we just left. Also heard their prices while sitting there and was shocked at the 2000.00 price range read more

This place is very shady. My cat got very sick with a blocked urinary tract and we took him to Animal Emergency Hospital Volusia as it was the only hospital we were aware of that was open at that time. We were faced with a unreasonably large vet bill.  Doctor Johnson (the owner of this facility) talked down to us, was extremely rude, and uncompassionate. She gave us no options besides paying a vet bill that we couldn't afford to pay, applying for scratchpay or care credit (making it more expensive), or surrendering him to the hospital to recieve the care that he needed. We were told her facility could not offer us a payment plan. She told us we could sign a document, releasing him to the hospital for treatment and he would be adopted out afterwards. We were told that once we sign the document, they would no longer give us updates about his treatments or well-being. I would like to see this policy change but it probably won't. Out of desperation and feeling pressure from Dr. Johnson and some of her staff, we signed the document. We hope that he really received the care that he deserves and was treated with nothing but kindness. We loved our cat and he was our best friend. The house is so empty without him. We never even got to say goodbye. We hope that the next family that gets the pleasure of knowing him, loves him as much as we did. We have since attempted to reach out to Animal Emergency Hospital Volusia via email and Facebook messenger but they have not bothered to write us back (although I'm sure they will add a wierd, copied and pasted response to this review, justifying charging so much more than other facilities). I am certain that the owner is not actually even reading the feedback I have about the hospital. We want to warn others about our disgusting experience. We are also going to file a complaint against the hospital, to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. I am not sure that they will be able to do anything, as we do not have an hard evidence of the enormous pressure we felt from Doctor Johnson and her some of her staff, only the recorded phone calls owned by the hospital. We did not even get a copy of the horrible document we signed. Please hug your pets and cherish every moment you get with them. This could happen to anyone. Follow up if you feel like you have been mistreated by an animal hospital and staff. We do not want to see this happen to anyone else. Brought my almost 20-year-old cat to them she was on her way to the other side basically. Had a very rude veterinarian. I was there because I knew she was going to die soon. But she started declining very quickly. I wanted to make her comfortable and then I was going to bring her back when it was really time. It didn't seem like the veterinarian knew what the heck was going on. She kept wanting to talk about fleas. She's on flea prevention and I give her a bath every two weeks she's just very old and something went South. Also she was at Cat Care Clinic 2 months ago for UTI and she was in perfect shape at that time. I brought her back because it was the only place that you can go to Within a 50 Mi radius. Because she started declining that evening and I didn't want her to suffer. They ended up charging me over $400 for euthanizing a kitty. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't walk out of there cuz she was suffering so I paid it I felt like it was it's emotional extortion. After I paid it the next day I called other 24-hour Hospital clinics that were hour and a half away from me and they all charge from $150 to $200. And that's what I thought it cost. They should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people who have cats that are suffering and that you're put in a position that you have to pay it because you don't want your precious animal to suffer. If I could give this place a zero I would. They misdiagnosed my cats condition as a urethral blockage when it was actually an infection. The "plan" was almost $3000 and 3 days in the animal hospital which I indicated I was not going to do. They slow walked returning my cat and my drivers license in retaliation after I paid the assessment fee. It took almost 45 minutes and a call to the police before they returned my property. They were so rude after I declined. The only reason I went to this place was because it was a Sunday, actually the Sunday after Christmas. The vet indicated he might also need surgery after the catheterization and a lot of people just had them do the surgery first which included removing his male parts so he could pee like a girl cat because of the cost. It was horrifying. I took him to a different emergency vet who diagnosed a urinary infection, gave us medication and antibiotics and he was better in one day. read more
