With an ulcer on my kitty's eye and then scar tissue after, the scar tissue needed to be removed in order to save her eye. Surgery wasn't cheap. But for $5500 upfront they saved it. That $5500 also covered 3 follow-up appts. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. With a patch on her eyeball, it will probably never be quite as beautiful as before, but it's healed and better than I hoped for Highly recommend AEC. They have very caring staff and wonderful Drs. Well, looking at this practices ratings it appears I am not the first to say if you choose to take your pet to Animal Eye Consultants you have only a 50/50 chance of being happy with your experience and their priority IS money over the animals they treat. Having been in the medical field for 40 years in an outpatient infusion center NOT once did we charge the family for canceling their loved ones appointment because they died. Why should this be any different for an animal. You are a speciality practice and when called, we had to take an appointment 1-2 weeks out so where is the problem in filling your slots in general. I have never thought it was unreasonable to require a 24-48 hour cancellation fee but come on people ..... DEATH is a totally different story . For our family this isn't about the $75 they say is still being charged to cancel the appointment a week ahead of scheduled. It's about the lack of compassion and for those out there that are spending more that they really can afford on their beloved pet ! read more

BEWARE! Please read this before you do business -I believe animal eye consultants to have been negligent in the after care of my animal post surgery, which led to secondary glaucoma (high pressure in the eye causing nerve damage) and my dog going blind in the eye they performed surgery on. -They did not give me all the necessary medications that I needed after surgery which resulted in me driving around with a sedated dog that needed to be recovering at home with the proper medications. -Nor did they give me the proper education on what the medications were for which may have prevented the secondary glaucoma. -They also scratched his cornea during a post surgery check up. -Every time I brought him in, the prognosis got worse. Including corneal edema and cloudy fundus on his last check up. I voiced my concerns with their services twice but they offered nothing but the statement "sometimes these things happen". -I don't expect miracles but I do expect a business that advertises itself as expert professionals to behave that way and if they don't they should make it right. -My dog is now in worse condition than when I first brought him in, they performed surgery on his "best" eye at my request, although they recommended I do both eyes. -Now he is left with one bad eye with a cataract and a blind eye and I have spent over $6000 since December with no results, just negligence. I dropped off my dog for surgery in the morning at 8am. It was 6pm and I still hadn't heard from them which concerned me. I had to call them only to receive a voicemail that they were closed. This was alarming to me so I drove over and kept calling. They finally answered and told me he was just waking up and still swaying. When they gave him to me it appeared that he had just come out of surgery and was still under the effects of the anesthesia. I even saw the doctor leaving for the night. As all business is done via the parking lot. This leads me to believe that the surgery was performed late in the day or early evening with very minimal aftercare. They gave me a good prognosis at this time telling me that he was visual. They quickly went over all 15 medications he would need starting that night, with me in the dark parking lot. Some of which I had to find myself. They didn't educate me on what each medication was for. Just told me which ones, how many times a day, and at which times. I wanted to do everything I could for him so I went from pharmacy to pharmacy looking for the medications with them all saying this is for an animal we don't sell that here or that they were simply out of stock. By the time I got home empty handed it's close to 9pm. He was still very drugged and I couldn't give him his medication until he woke up which was around midnight. I brought him in for his post operation check up the next day and they told me that his eye was not responding and that the pressure must have spiked and that there might be permanent nerve damage (secondary glaucoma). If that was something that could happen they should have performed surgery earlier in the day so that they could give him proper after care and monitor the pressure in his eye or at least have warned me or educated me on which medications controlled the pressure so I could have given him the eye pressure drops sooner. They kept him that day for a few hours to control the high pressure and during the day scratched his cornea, which is a very painful thing to experience especially after a surgery. I found this out the next day during another recheck. I brought him back 5 days later and still no vision, according to their diagnosis/procedure from April 15th. At his one month post op visit on April 28th still no vision, now a moderate corneal edema, and his fundus started going cloudy. He had another appt but I refuse to bring him to such an incompetent business. I tried to get a refund before posting this but they were unwilling to do anything. They also overcharge for services and medications which I found online for a lot less. I can't believe these people take advantage of animal lovers like this. I will include all of their notes so you can see first hand in their own words how his progress deteriorated under their care from when I first brought him in until his surgery/post op visits. $6000 for pure negligence and harm. Don't let this happen to you. In response to Denise L's comment of course I understand there are complications and risks involved in any procedure. In my story I am referring to post care, not giving me meds, educating the customer, and how you handled the situation of a failed surgery with nothing but an apology. And if my pet was not an ideal candidate I'm not sure why you would recommend I do both eyes? I was told complications were 10-15% chance. I am just sharing my story to let others know what can happen and in hopes you change your protocol. You mention me using insurance but hard to do while waiting on preauthorization forms from you. read more

Am delighted by the emergency treatment by Dr Collins, and all the support staff I contacted. We first went to Crestwood, now going to Naperville where we live. So appreciated meeting the doctor face to face during this difficult pandemic time. The financial policy was tedious, I admit, and is the reason for 4 stars, instead of 5. But, that reflects management rules. The support staff has to enforce the owner policies. You can guess they have been stiffed by owners desperate to help their pet, but with no evidence of credit worthiness. Sad, but this group is highly trained specialists, not a charity like some of the animal shelters. Please understand that. Maybe someone could set up a Go Fund Me to help these owners help their animals. Would have been better if we knew the policies when our vet made the appointment with Animal Eye. We would have been better prepared to pay the consulting fee prior to seeing the doctor. We will definitely continue with Dr Collins. read more

A very uncaring and unprofessional practice who care more about money then either the pets or their owners. I took my pet who got visually blind for a ophthalmology exam and potential treatment. I had to put down a hefty $ 350.00 deposit for them to confirm my appointment, which was fine. The vet and the vet tech who saw my dog were professional and knowledgeable, but it ended there. My pet was diagnosed with SARDS, and they said I needed to follow up with a endocrinologist, because they did not have the time to monitor the medications that the dog would need. I called animal eye consultants 4 times so they could forward Kimper's test results to the new vet. They did not have the courtesy or kindness to call me back or forward the results. When my husband called for new appointment they called back within 5 minutes. I paid over $ 600,00 for a half hour consult so I could seek treatment for my pet, they did not have the humanity to either call me back or forward my pets records so he could be helped. If you can please avoid this practice. I wonder if the vets were even given my messages. read more

My foster kitty Hans had an eye infection that did not seem to be improving. After 3 courses of various antibiotics i was finally able to get a referral to Dr. Denise Lindley at Animal Eye Consultants in Naperville. She promptly diagnosed Hans with Anterior Uveitis, which is very difficult to treat, and would have resulted in blindness if untreated. Dr. Lindley really knows her stuff! And she is VERY GOOD with animals, and VERY THOROUGH. I've been to a lot of vets as a result of being in animal rescue. This is the first one I've felt so positively about that I had to write a review. She is the best ever. Important Note- you will need a referral to make an appointment at most specialists. If your animal is currently undergoing treatment at a regular vet, see if you can get them to give you a referral before the treatment is over, considering you won't get an appointment immediately. I cannot believe this clinic makes you pay 100% in advance ($260). Not only is it already difficult finding an ophthalmologist who is taking new patients, an "emergency" costs $560 in addition to the $260 and diagnostics are $90. I explained the issues with my dog and that she was tearing badly and seemed in pain--no matter, we can't get you in for over a month. OK, I get the pandemic thing, but when one is willing to sit in the office all day for the chance to be seen in between patients for what could possibly be an emergency, I cannot believe there is a human on the planet who would charge such a fee. Not to mention the VCA doesn't have an ophthalmologist on staff! I've since contacted University of Wisconsin-Madison Veterinary Services and hopeful they can help my baby girl sooner than 35 days. read more

Dr. Lindley is an outstanding eye doctor. We went to her for a second opinion after receiving terrible/overpriced eye care at Eye Care for Animals(Roscoe Village). Avoid Eye Care for Animals. They are inexperienced compared to Animal Eye Care(Naperville). If you live in the city, take the extra step to drive out to Naperville. Dr. Lindley has over 20 yrs experience in eye care. She is thorough and fair priced. They also tell you what the price is on every procedure during the process. No surprises. My dog is 18 and her eyes are going bad almost overnight. Dr. Lindley at AEC knew exactly what to do. She did four sight saving procedures, and then started my dog a low protein diet and blood pressure medicine to help stem the internal problems causing her sight lose. AEC are pros. She determined my dog went blind and developed Cushing's due to my previous vet's over-use of steroids for his chronic ear infections (he'd wipe his steroid ear medication into his eyes), etc.; I stopped the ear medication, and guess what - he could see again within a week! We adopted a blind chihuahua - and now she can see!!!! Thanks to Dr. Lindley and her amazing staff. It's incredible and we couldn't be happier!!!! In May we adopted a blind senior chihuahua who had been abandoned at a rest stop. She struggled getting around, but soon learned the house and her sisters and eventually (with her seeing eye dog sister) figured out the stairs. Then one morning in September she woke up in lots of pain and wouldn't open one eye. We rushed her to her vet and were referred to Animal Eye Consultants immediately as she had a lens luxation. She needed emergency surgery to get her out of pain and needed surgery on both eyes. Because of COVID we could not meet Dr. Lindley personally and it was very nerve racking leaving her in the hands of someone we had never met. The surgery cost us a fortune and unfortunately our little Tia had a very difficult recovery. Animal Eye Consultants helped us a lot along the way and always fit Tia in despite their crazy full schedule. She is finally fully recovered and she can actually see now! It is incredible! The surgery not only got her out of pain but also removed cataracts and repaired her vision. We have never seen her see! Now, she runs and plays like a puppy and it is a beautiful sight. This place is a rip off eye care for animals. Dr. King cares how much money he will earn more then how you pet will do. They know you need their help so they charge outrageous amount for your animals care. My dog has glaucoma her eye had to be destroyed at a cost of 1200.00 dollars. There first visit to this place cost 300.00 dollars an we had them doing eye pressure on her eyes at a cost of 40.00 per month for four months then Dr. king would look at her for a cost of 160.00 dollars. They love it that your animal needs help if you do not want to put them down. The eye pressure is very painful so something has to be done. If you care about your dog please do not go to this place!! Dr. Lindley is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever met. I am a Nurse and I have to admit she has terrible bedside manner, and all she cares about is money. I took my dog here to have a cataract removed. Dr. Lindley botched the operation, and a few months later my dog had to have her whole eye removed. A year later we go back because the same dog now has an ulcer in her good left eye. She barely assessed my dog before throwing an estimate in my face for over 600 dollars to perform a diamond burr keratectomy. I could tell she didn't perform the procedure correctly because she was done in less than 7 seconds and what a shock it didn't help in any way. Revisit a few days later for an update and she tells me she has to cut into my dogs eye and it will cost 1900 dollars. She rushes another estimate in my face and says do you want it or not. She wouldn't answer my questions, and she wouldn't further explain any alternative solutions. When I said I need to think about it she tells her assistant that I refuse to take care of my dog, check marked a box on her records and said goodbye. That was the last straw for me. I called them later during the week to let them know that Dr. Lindley is one of the worst doctors I've ever met and that I will no longer be going to their clinic. A week after that phone call Dr. Lindley sends me a personally signed letter saying we are no longer welcome at their facility. I really do feel like she is harassing me at this point when I clearly said I am not coming back on the phone a week prior. I ended up finding an AMAZING doctor at Eyecare for Animals. Dr. Wasserman has excellent bedside manner and will thoroughly explain every detail and option when it comes to treatments for your pet. He actually did a diamond burr keratectomy himself and guess what happened.....it worked!!! Lastly if you do decide to go to Dr. Lindley for treatment DO NOT let her tech Bruce get anywhere near your dog. He is rude and hurts the animals. read more

Worst place to go. They just want your money. I brought in my pet for a consultation and paid over $150 fee in initial fees. They said he needed meds to keep him comfortable. Also, that he needed surgery. I didn't have the 6k they wanted for his surgery but instead wanted the meds to keep him comfortable. They refused to give me scripts so I can fill them somewhere else bc I know they overcharge customers. They wanted to charge me over $600. I'm a nurse and I know you can get meds cheaper at other places. So, they told me to go back to Petco who referred me this awful place and they can get me scripts. This business lacks empathy for their customers and pets. I would never refer anyone to this place and should have known from previous reviews to avoid this place. We visited Animal Eye Consultants in Naperville for a second opinion on our dog's corneal ulcers and a benign mass on a lower eyelid that needed removal. When you visit a clinic for a second opinion, you expect an estimate of charges for the recommended procedure. You won't get a written estimate here. A tech will throw out numbers and let you try to do the math on your own, and you'll be hoping you haven't missed anything. Maybe they don't provide written estimates because their services are considerably higher than other reputable eye clinics in the Chicago area. In our case, the bill with Animal Eye Consultants would have been $600 higher had we gone with them. Instead we found a good clinic in Chicago, received good care, and saved ourselves a bundle. A word of advice, Naperville office: Start offering written estimates so owners know exactly what to expect and how to compare your services to other clinics. We've never been to any type of animal clinic where written estimates were not provided at each and every visit. It seems to be a standard practice you do not want to observe, and it pushed us to have our dog's procedures somewhere else. They are all incredible Veterinarians who are incredibly thorough in their examinations. They all prioritize their patient care and give each patient their undivided attention in order to provide the best care possible. During my time at Animal Eye Consultants, I was able to have a behind-the-scenes look and was impressed by how much the staff cared for each animal and their well-being. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure each animal is receiving the best care (especially in times where clients are not allowed in the clinic). If there ever comes a time where one of my animals starts to have an eye issue, I will definitely be bringing them to Animal Eye Consultants because I know that they will receive the best treatment there. This is a review based on a heated conversation I witnessed while in the office today that was initiated by a first time client. First off, the staff of Animal Eye Consultants, especially Aubrey, were professional and completely in their right to act the way they did. I was a first time client as well that had to fill out the same paperwork of VERY SIMPLE QUESTIONS, same thing if I were to go to a new doctor's appointment. When making the appointment over the phone, the staff clearly state all charges to expect, including the $200 non refundable fee to make the appointment. The review that was made in regards to what happened, was taken completely out of context by the reviewer, who failed to mention that she continued to make snide comments under her breath to the staff and told me as soon as I walked in the door that the "paperwork is terrible, it's a horrible form to fill out." When the staff finally stood up for themselves and called her out on her childish behavior, she is the one who chose to leave without being seen by a doctor, even after the staff offered to "start over" so she could be seen by the doctor. This is a prime example of the customer is not always right. I also work for a large healthcare company, and am at the forefront of patient care and satisfaction, and will tell you I would have acted the same way if a verbally abusive patient was speaking to me that way. As far as the care I received, Dr. King was very friendly and knowledgeable and laid out my options for my dog to help me make an easier decision. My dog was being squirmy during the exam and staff came in to assist and were very gentle and nurturing. I trust them with the care of my baby and will be returning for follow up visits and further counsel. read more

The reality is, you get what you pay for. Animal Eye Consultants is pricey, but they are experts in veterinary eye issues and when you need to know what is going on, this is the place to go. I brought my cat here after our regular vet thought it would be good for her to get checked out. Originally, I went to a different eye vet because of the upfront price here kind of turned me off. The first eye vet believed it may be cancerous, but honestly did not have a lot of clear answers or suggestions for us. A few months later, we decided to bite the bullet and come here and get real answers so we could make a more confident decision. Mostly, I'm mad I didn't do this first. Dr. Lindley knows her stuff and her team who handled my cat were lovely. She was confident in her diagnosis and explanation, which made me feel better and helped me make a final decision easily. Our cat needed to have her eye removed, which while of course still being surgery, is a fairly common surgery and so we did not have Dr. Lindley do the surgery, as our own vet was able to do it for a much lower price and had a lot of experience with it. If he had not we absolutely would have had her do it. Even despite not handling her surgery, our vet kept Dr. Lindley updated and her team called afterwards to talk to us about the results of the biopsy and what to look out for in her remaining eye so we can catch it early and save the eye. Our little Maddie is doing just fine now, but if something should show up, I will not hesitate to just go straight to Dr. Lindley. read more

So I walk out and get a phone call 10 minutes later asking if I would like to reschedule, no apology. I will be finding a different eye doctor. read more

I have been going to AEC for a year now and I could not be happier with Dr. Lindley and all of her staff! The Dr and staff are very compassionate and do everything they can for my Roxy. They take the time to answer all of your questions and concerns and go over different options for my dog. Dr Lindley has been AMAZING at treating my dogs glaucoma and saving her eye that is not blind. A few things I would like to mention...if you have to wait past your scheduled time there is a reason! Animals come in with critical emergencies all the time (my dog was one of them) and because they understand time is critical they will tend to the emergency! If you were the person coming in with an emergency you would want the same. Unfortunately others may have to wait. Just be glad you are not in there for an emergency and if you have to be know they will take priority for your pet. This is a specialist and there are not many eye vets so think about this if you are not taken on time. You would wait for a top heart specialist appointment wouldn't you if they were taking care of an emergency?? Also as for meds...some are only for dogs but majority of the meds are also "human" meds especially eye drops. You can take a prescription to your pharmacy and use a discount drug program to cut costs. They have no problem working with you on this. Yes veterinary health is not cheap but neither is medical and drugs for humans, I am a Nurse in a hospital and fully aware of costs. Sorry for the long post but I felt some people needed to be educated on what people complain about. Dr King saw my dog with the first visit and was fine but is no longer with this practice...Dr Lindley is top notch! read more

I recently brought my dog to Dr. King at Animal Eye Consultants in Naperville. The dog had gone suddenly blind from Blastomycosis, a fungal infection. I experienced terrible customer service with long wait times both times I went to the office. The vet tech that took the dog's history identified himself as a picture framer by training which should have been my first clue. Dr. King prescribed a dose of Prednisone (a steroid) more than 7 times the required dose which could have caused severe liver damage, diabetes, or death. He prescribed it the first visit and renewed it at the same dose the second visit.The dog was at this overdosed level for a month. My regular vet discovered the mistake and saved the dog's life. When notified, Dr. King never called me to follow up on the dog's well-being and did not offer a refund of the expensive medicine. He also refused to pay for the blood panels to monitor the dog's liver function for the next two months as recommended by my regular vet. In addition, Dr. King failed to tell me that a second medication he prescribed to treat the fungus is not effective with ocular blasto so I spent over $600 treating with a medicine that I could have avoided. On the advice of my vet, we removed the dog's eyes which was the site of the fungus and put the dog on an appropriate systemic anti-fungal. Our vet helped us order the medication through a Canadian pharmacy saving us over $700 per month. Dr. King's practice is terrible and should be avoided for the safety and well being of your animals. What he did is nothing short of malpractice. read more

Oh my gosh!! Dr. Lindley is awesome!! and worth every dollar. My Sophie (cocker spaniel) is doing so much better since going to Dr. Lindley. Yes, it's expensive... but she is so good with Sophie, Sophie loves her and just rests her face in the Dr's hands. Normally Sophie is so hyper, but the Doctor knows how to relax Sophie and she is no longer in distress. Eyes no longer itch, we've had one surgery and I've postponed the second...we're doing a wait and see... but I feel so comfortable with the Doctor. I know everything will be ok. SHE IS AWESOME..... My bulldog had a cherry eye that need to be surgically stitched down. I was told, via phone, that the "cherry eye" cost $850 to repair. The same day of my first consultation, the doctor decided to perform the surgery. I was told that in addition to the regular proceedure, she was going to stich the cherry eye from the bottom of the eye as well to really keep it pulled down in place. Well, it looked and still to this day looks as though he still has a cherry eye; except now its a dark red/black color. The proceedure cost me $1300 and they also hit me up for an additional $30 for steroid ointment; that of course in addition to his numerous meds after surgery. When I voiced my concerns over the phone and wanted to keep the doctor updated; I was told that if the cherry eye was still visible, I could pay another $650 to remove it; I THINK NOT, they butchered his eye bad enough. I felt the staff was extremely rude, especially Gabby. Terrible attitudes when we , the public, pay enormous amounts for our pets to be well. On my last "surgical visit" I had a legit emergency and had called the evening before, about 6-7 pm, and I was contacted the next day to reschedule but at a full cost office visit; I was told because I didn't cancel giving 24 hours notice, I would be charged. I was very upset, how was I supposed to plan an EMERGENCY with a specific time frame....REALLY?? So I lost my last "surgical visit" and luckily my boss is paying for the last visit, becasue he loves my dog and said it was work related and only fair that he take care of it. So, this morning I'm taking him in and plan to let the doctor know how disappointed I am that the situation turned out as it did. I don't plan to ever return after today and I seriously hope this post helps someone take more time to search out another eye surgeon. Unfortunately this facility has several locations. I am writing this 3 weeks and 1 day after my very traumatic experience with my dog Lacey. Long story short my day started at 10am with my vet calling me after the groomer noticed something odd about my dog's eye. The vet told me I needed to see an ophthalmologist immediately. I called AEC and they literally saw us in 15 minutes. I was very shaken and crying and their demeanor was very warm and caring from the minute I went into the office. By 3:30pm Lacey's eye was removed. The administrative staff, Bruce, Steve and Dr. King are all champs in my eyes. They explained everything in such great detail and calmed me as much as possible. Again, I was a wreck. They answered all of my questions, treated Lacey with love and went above and beyond in every way possible. After surgery they took a great deal of time explaining the five medication she needed. They called the next morning to follow up as I was trying to administer the meds which was not going well. She calmed me down and helped me over the phone. The follow up care has been fantastic and I could not recommend them more. Also, please go to a specialist if your baby has eye problems. Sadly, had I done this my sweet Lacey may still have her eye. read more

After three vets failed to diagnose my dog, Dr. Lindley immediately got it right! She saved my dog who was on the verge of death. Although my dog had already lost her eyesight due to the desease, she was able to save my dog"s life. Abby is still with us 9 years later thanks to Dr. Lindley and her staff. I wish I had known about her earlier as I am pretty sure my dog would still have sight. Dr. Lindley is a talented doctor with a special gift with animals... She is our hero! read more

During my initial phone call I was told that they take care of everything not just eyes. My cat has eye issues, but recent weight loss was my main concern. After allowing them to do eye tests after clarifying that they do not do everything as promised, I was given a ridiculous estimate (over $5,000) after the $250 already dropped today. I decided to get a second option and just take the medicine they suggested. THEY NEVER WEIGHED MY ANIMAL AND GUESSED AT THE WEIGHT! ALL MEDIATION IS DISPENSED BY WEIGHT AND THEY WERE NO WHERE NEAR ACCURATE! I weighed him at home & HAD TO CALL & TELL THEM THAT THEY HAD THE WRONG WEIGHT & ASK IF THE DOSAGE WAS TOO HIGH FOR HIM! AND OF COURSE IT WAS! DO NOT EVER GO HERE! I wish I could rate it lower than 1 star! read more

In May 2012 my 7 yr old shitzu was attacked by a coyote. In that attack his left eye was pushed out of position. In the week following the treatment an infection severely damaged the eye further. At that point I rushed him back to the Vet where they told me the damage was so severe that I needed to get him to Dr. Lindley. It was a Saturday at noon and though they were closing they waited for me to get there. Turns out the eye was ready to rupture and rushed him into surgery to apply a flap over the damaged area. Though his vision was damaged from the attack if it were not for their care and skill he would have not only lost his eye, but the infection would have spread further. In the last three years he has been under her excellent care. A few months ago I noticed he was not seeing clearly. Taking him in she found that the flap on his eye had opened up and was leaking fluid and his good eye had scarring that was blocking his sight. Not only did she fix the leakage, but she was able to treat the scarring in the good eye. The improvement has been remarkable! It has given him back his life ... he is again playing with his toys, running in the yard and able to maneuver safely in the house. Snickers and I want to thank Dr. Lindley and her wonderful staff!
