It's taken me 2 years to write this, mainly due to grieving. I moved to sf and it was a really hard time mentally and financially on my own. I unexpectedly lost both my Siberian huskies April 2023 at the same time due to them getting into things while I was away, it was the most devastating loss I've had to go through. Sadly I don't remember the vet and their staff there at SAGE Veterinary Centers in SF,Ca but I can't thank you enough for the CONTINUOUS compassion they had while I made my way to them. They gave me my options, were very emphatic on their time line, the chances they had and didn't pressure me into any decision. With their help, and kindness I had to make the hardest decision to let them both go. The staff gave me as much time as I needed, and let me tell you, I needed it. These two were my biggest joy in life and they walked me through it all with so much compassion. It was heartbreaking seeing staff also tear up, I remember one of the staff mentioning they'd never had to euthanize two huskies at the same time. It was a really hard night for everyone. After it was all done, they gave me the room and were so supportive, they walked me through my options, and even mentioned I could have more time to decide if needed for costs and cremations. I was so devastated of their sudden passing I asked for two small vials of fur to remember them by and they helped me collect some. It's taken a very long time but looking back, I'm so thankful for how loving this staff were to a complete stranger. If anyone needs any emergency support or sadly, a place to go to for their loved pets euthanasia, I recommend them. One thing I didn't know vets/cremation places can do, they can offer you a private cremation (just your pet to be cremated on its own at a higher price, or a different kind where they are cremated with others, I was taken back by that but I can see now why some may opt the cheaper price if they can't afford it, I personally did the private pet cremation one and payed more) They partnered with "Animal Memorial Service" funeral home in Gilroy,CA, and walked me through every step of the way. Animal Memorial Services were very responsive and patient with my grieving questions. When Animal Memorial Service dropped my pups urns back to SAGE they called me right away, and I was very pleased with how I felt they went above and beyond. The urn plaque (I do wish it was a screwed on name vs a sticky seal and included the year) but it did have their name and time of passing, it came with a letter certificate when they were cremated, a wooden print of their paws which I didn't expect to get, a ink stamp of their paws (and they emailed me a digital print of their paws when I requested, true to size, which I've since tattooed on me). When usps attempted delivery, animal memorial services called me to make sure I received my love's remains. I love that they offer a support line and just had continue communication. The prices were also fair so that getting your pets remains was not out of reach for the average family. Lastly, their packaging was really thoughtful. It came with peanuts so my pet arrived upright and not just tossed in the shipping box. The instructions were thorough on how to open the urn as well. Very upsetting experience. Blue Pearl Vet Hospital in Monterey told me Animal Memorial Service would pick up my cat for cremation on March 16th (three days after she was euthanized,) and I would receive her ashes 10-14 days later. On day 16, I called Blue Pearl and asked if her ashes had arrived. They said no, and suggested that I check back later that week. On day 20 (nearly three weeks after she was euthanized) I drove to Blue Pearl in person to ask if her ashes were ready. After checking her computer, the receptionist left for quite a while. When she returned, I was told: "She's still here. She wasn't picked up." She said it was due to some kind of a "glitch" and other animals hadn't been picked up either. I was too shocked and upset at that point, so I initially agreed to have her picked up the following Monday by Animal Memorial Service and was told it would be 7 days for her ashes to be returned. I asked if I could just drive to Gilroy to pick up her ashes as soon as they were ready and was told, "No." After thinking about it, I no longer trusted either business to do the right thing and cancelled the rescheduled cremation. I decided to transport her myself three hours north to a crematorium whom I do know and trust (Bubbling Well in Napa) and have used in the past, whose staff are incredibly compassionate and effective, and offers more flexible options like witnessed cremation and same-day service. I was able to personally hand her to their staff early in the morning and pick up her ashes to bring home with me early afternoon. When I confirmed with Animal Memorial Service by email that Blue Pearl had cancelled the rescheduled cremation, all they did was confirm it had been cancelled, but did not apologize or explain why they didn't pick up my cat (or the other animals) or why I wasn't notified once the "glitch" was discovered. Had they done that, it wouldn't have changed the outcome but it would have helped minimize the confusion, pain, and anger this caused while I was also grieving the loss of my beloved cat. read more

Jennifer was great! The staff in general aims at being sensitive to their customers' grief. It must be difficult to see people cry everyday. Us pet owners are SO grateful to have a place to celebrate their animals companions' lives. We do it for humans, after all! The time to be able to be with our animals before they enter cremation helps with our closure process. It makes the animals more "real" family members, as they get a place to be honored, like people do in funerals. Jennifer was extremely patient and helpful. I could feel that she really wanted to be there to help. Her sincerity felt genuine, unlike some people out in this world who become stone cold after dealing with a difficult job for a long period of time. Jennifer was professional yet genuinely caring. The grieving process came on abruptly and it is easy to start "panicking" when one's animal passes away. Animal Memorial Services called me back very quickly, thankfully, and we scheduled for arrangements for the same day. The facility is very clean and comfortable, and it felt "right" to choose this place as the sacred place where our animal friends' bodies go through the final transformation process. It's been a little over a month since my Charlie's passing and it still pains me to think about what had happened with my experience here. I do not recommend animal memorial services to ANY pet parent that cares about their animals. To keep this short and simple, AMS did not honor my request with wanting to CREMATE my dog with his sweater, a small plushie of his brother, and his blanket even though I confirmed if all this was OK. I called first thing when they opened to confirm my requests above and also made a few additional requests about paying for his fur clippings & nose/paw prints. After our phone call, the lady on the phone confirmed with me all the info above and had me pay for the request and said she would be emailing me over an invoice receipt. After waiting 15 mins and I still did not receive an email, I frantically sent them a new email and asked if they could send me over my receipt as it was my confirmation that they have received my request. Just to be extra sure I even emailed them details of all my requests once again and also ask them to confirm if the fur clippings I paid for would fit in my trinkets because if not I would like to purchase even more fur. AMS responded to my email and sent the invoice but they completely ignored the rest of my message and so I followed up with another email. At this point I already feel like I'm being pretty annoying with reaching out to them multiple times. I didn't want to come off as annoying because truthfully I was scared they might mistreat charlie somehow because "I'm being pushy" and so I gave them until the end of day before I call which was completely my mistake. By the end of the day, AMS responded to my message and told me not only was charlie not cremated with his items but that they had tossed his items in the trash, they weren't able to get any more fur because they had started the AQUAMATION process, and they said they have no record of any request. My heart completely sank. It's already hard enough losing my baby, and now knowing none of my requests have been honored despite me reaching out multiple times crushed me. Yes I got an apology, but what does an apology do? AMS completely disregarded all of my request and to not put my family in any distress, I kept this all to myself and I went through the grief and pain all by myself. Luckily in the end someone did call me once they saw my response and asked me to describe Charlie's items so they can dig for it in their trash before the dump truck came later that day, but I do not wish this on anybody. To be on the phone as they're digging through the trash searching for MY baby's belongings that they tossed out like trash? Who even does that? How inhumane are you to put a grieving pet parent through all that. And who tosses belongings without first confirming with the owner? They also claim to have a tracking system but I was never notified or even informed when my baby would begin his cremation or in this case an "aquamation"process (that I never approved of). After all they put me through, I started to be more pushy with asking for a timeline where he was in the process because at this point I just wanted to come pick up his ashes and get him out of there and their answer to me was "the tracking system is for our employees". So what's the point of advertising transparency with a tracking process if you can't even tell me what stage my baby is even at?? AMS your mistake caused so much unnecessary grief and it doesn't matter if you apologized at the end of the day. MY baby was NOT honored in the way I wanted him to be. Your business is not transparent, you made a mistake and offered NOTHING for all the pain you caused, and I hope no one ever utilizes your services ever again. Death is a permanent thing and I trusted you to honor my baby exactly the way I PAID for. I truly hope no one ever needs to go through such a traumatizing experience. Picked up our dog's remains today. We feel the lady at the front can be a little more kind especially after we have just suffered a great loss. We didn't get her name but she told my daughter to sign out and my daughter was unsure if there was anything else she needed to do. Instead of being helpful the lady at the desk told her you can go. How rude! Sorry you had to get up from your spot to help a customer who just lost an important part of their family. Disappointed beyond words. We specifically had the conversation of picking my animal up after the service was done. Then I receive an email about a shipment a day before delivery. Having worked at UPS before I know for a fact packages are all too often damaged. The conversation of shipment did not occur whatsoever, and as a matter of fact, a backup number was also given in the event they cannot get a hold of me. The person who helped me in person was named Rebecca. Over the phone and in person we spoke of aquamation and not cremation. They explained that when i got there I just needed to sign and pay and most things were set up. I signed the papers and payed thinking they had been sincere and listened to what i wanted. They had gone ahead with a cremation and not an aquamation. My fault for trusting them and not reading the fine print, you would think they would get these things right when your a bit distraught after loosing a beloved animal. The room you first enter isn't very welcoming either, as they straight away weigh your animal for the service. I will be avoiding this facility by all means possible in the future and highly advise others to do the same. There is a similar service offered in San Jose called Bay Area pet mortuary services who offer the same services, as well as sincere individuals who will get the paper work right so you don't have to stress yourself even more than you already are. read more

I lost my best friend of almost 10 years last week and was so heartbroken. My vet and animal memorial service took care of everything so quickly and I was reunited with my dog 10 days later. Absolutely terrible experience from the beginning. It has been so impersonal and like our beloved pet was just another paycheck to them. The emergency vet we used works with animal memorial service. After our dog passed, I was sent a LINK with the options for urns and limited options for other keepsakes. We were given a time frame on when we needed to make these choice by- via our memorial portal online. After a couple days of heavy grief, I took the chance to look over options. I wasn't please with the urn options or any of the keepsakes- all we wanted was a clay paw print and a nice engraved urn. Our "deadline" was over the weekend and we had no option to speak with someone about our choices. Their website says they offer clay prints, but our online portal didn't give us that option. I received auto generated deadline reminders about submitting our memorial wishes. If we didn't, they would continue with the generic service that's pre selected by the vets office. It seemed I had no other choice, so I made selections and emailed them asking about the paw print. Unfortunately, on Monday I received a call that they do not offer paw prints because they operate at a high volume. Our family pet was cremated Sunday morning (but they can't be reached during the weekend and don't check emails or voicemails). I'm ASTONISHED that a death care service operates 100% online. Do yourself a favor and find a memorial service that understands grief of this type of loss and treats each client as an individual. I wish I was notified as I would have driven an hour to pick him up and driven him to a memorial service that operates better. read more

No words other than disappointment. I have seen many customers use this facility & have seen ashes returned. However apparently I was an unlucky one. Worst customer service. No email back, rude phone conversation. No certificate of cremation or name tag. When I called I was blamed for not seeing it in my box. My loyal cat of 17 years was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lymphoma and passed away on a car ride to Sage Campbell. I am so grateful that there is a place like Animal Memorial Services that allows for owners to say one last goodbye. Every interaction I had with them was full of compassion. I hope that this review can help pet owners who aren't familiar with the process. Logistics The nurses at Sage were kind enough to hold my cat's body in a freezer until I could make arrangements with AMS. I specifically wanted a private witness cremation, so I called AMS. Gina answered the phone and was very kind and helpful. As of this review, AMS offers private witness cremations on TuWedThur from 10AM to 1PM. I made an appointment with them for Tuesday morning. When I made the appointment, I was also able make specific arrangements regarding the inscription and paw prints (I wanted both the left and right front paws). I then called Sage to release the hold and make the payment over the phone. Note: If you make arrangements for pickup from a medical center like Sage, then the payments would be through the medical center. However, if you bring your pet directly to AMS, then you would pay directly through AMS. After I made those calls, the only thing left for me to do was to show up on the appointed day. I did make another call just to confirm that they were able to pick up my cat, and again, Gina was so helpful with reassuring me and providing me with details on the process. Environment The cremation facility is located in Gilroy, adjacent to the "New Hope Community Church". There isn't any obvious signage, but there is a glass door labeled as "Animal Memorial Service". There is plenty of parking in the plaza lot. When you walk in, you'll find yourself in a room with a few sofas and side table with tissues. There is a somber ambiance. The room also contains a shelf which displays the selection of urns, as well as samples of the cremation jewelry (made by local artist Dana DiAnda). Most of their urns are immediately available, although the laser-engraved urns may require some lead time. The Process I arrived earlier than expected, but the employees were kind enough to bring out my cat earlier so that I could say my goodbyes. They brought her out very quietly and respectfully on a cart. She was wrapped between warm fleece blankets. Her fur was soft and slightly cold, and her head rested on a bundled layer of fleece. She looked so peaceful -- as if she could just wake up again and start meowing. They gave me time alone with her -- as much time as I needed. Do note that you may have other pet owners passing through to pick up their pets' memorials as there is only one entryway -- however, everyone is respectful, and there is some comfort in knowing that others share in the experience of grief and loss. After a very long and reluctant goodbye, I went to the back to let them know that I was ready for the next step, which was taking the digital paw prints. I spoke with Philip (who had brought her into the room), and he was compassionate as I asked if he could possibly take both of her front paw prints (rather than just the single rear paw print). He very kindly responded that he'd try his best, and then we could see how it turned out, since the articulation is different between the front and rear paws, and it might be a little difficult to get a good print with the front. Fortunately, he was able to get beautiful prints from both front paws. He then led me into the back, where the furnace is, and allowed me to watch as they started the process. Another very kind employee (unfortunately didn't catch his name) brought me a cup of water, which I appreciated so much. Philip then brought me back out to the front room and answered any questions I had about urn selection. He let me know that the process would take about 1.5 hours, so I could stay in the waiting room, or I could head out and then come back. I was then able to coordinate with Gina for a custom inscription, and also asked them to set aside a portion of ashes for me to send for cremation jewelry. I left, and when I came back a couple of hours later, everything was all set for pickup, including urn, paw prints, and ashes...everything was exactly as I wanted it, and I appreciate the care that was put into the inscription font sizing and alignment. Trust For pet owners who are concerned about how their pets are treated, rest assured: The folks at AMS are very respectful and genuinely care about doing the process right. For example, I overheard a conversation between two employees about making sure that the digital paw print sizes were accurate to real-life sizes. They were also open to owners bringing in flowers -- I personally asked to pour some rose witch hazel on my cat's fur, since she loved the scent. If you have specific requests to honor your pet, don't hesitate to ask them...they are very compassionate and care about the process. read more

The biggest scam of a company - do NOT use them. Not accredited by the IAOPCC, which is not surprising to learn. Unfortunately, California does not regulate the pet cremation industry. My story is just the complete misrepresentation of charges ( as in, non-existent), and the attitude of the representative. When I lost my little bestie, they sent an email (which continued to be up to two times per day, AND phone calls!) letting me know I could choose either a individual cremation, or a communal cremation. The communal cremation price included return of various options from your pet. So, TWO options listed. As you read on, the email states that if they don't hear from me by a specific date, then my girl will receive a communal cremation, and I won't be able to retrieve anything from that process. There is NO cost listed to go this route. This is my issue. Not a word.. So, I decided to not respond. I was very unpleasantly surprised and dismayed to get yet another call a few days after the deadline date to "clear up any confusion" on what I had chosen, which again, was just communal cremation, nothing desired back. I am then told that I owe $140.00 for this service. No mention in emails, no bill will be sent, nothing...just a verbal notification of these charges. The representative would not let me finish my sentence when I tried to tell her that this was not disclosed in any of the emails or phone calls. Because of this, the conversation became rather heated, and I told her I absolutely would not be paying a cent, to which she told me I would then go to collections. She was rude, uncaring, and clearly just assigned to call and manipulate the pet owner. You cannot be sent to collections over no disclosed price/policy OR bill. I told her to have a manager call me. When I told my sister who was an unoffical co-owner about this, she called back right away and paid the fee. Her fear was that our beloved dog would not be treated inhumanely if we didn't pay. So congratulations Animal Services. You succeeded in holding our dog ransom. I am still going to move forward with a formal letter to them about this process and lack of fee disclosure for communal with no items returned. However, I fully expect not to receive any form of communication back since we paid the verbal charges, and they are not regulated in any way, shape or form. If by any chance I receive a call or communication back about this that states their lack of realizing what is and is not contained in their email communications and commitment to disclose all fees moving forward, I will update this review. read more

Our 5 year old cat JR was hit by a car and he did not survive. MedVet transported him to Animal Memorial Service to have him cremated. They called us 5 days later and said he was ready to pick up. The young lady at the front desk was so kind. She brought out our cat and expressed her heartfelt condolences. Their lobby has many nice things to purchase to keep the memory of your pet alive. Thank you for making our horrible experience of losing our beloved cat a little easier to accept. We greatly appreciate it. read more

Worst customer service ever. I've lost eight pets in the last five years, and they all came back in the same urn. I went to pick up my last pet's ashes and they came in an urn totally unlike the previous seven. I contacted them and was told they didn't carry the other urn any longer. The clerk said the business stopped using the supplier because they couldn't keep inventory on hand. When I asked for the name of the supplier the clerk said they went out of business. She suggested I do a search online for the urn. I asked to speak with her manager who said their marketing service handled this. When I asked her to contact the marketing service, she said they had changed services. At this point I became irritated and said I expected some customer service. I was told if I continued to raise my voice she would end the call. I told them they were worthless and hung up. When I went to the vet today they told me Animal Memorial would no longer take me as a customer. The thought that I let these money-grubbing ghouls take possession of my pets' remains disgusts me. As pet owners we don't deal with the cremation services directly. Don't let Animal Memorial handle the last and most precious acts you do for your pets. They deserve better. read more

Two phone calls, an email, and an email inquiry on their website after our 16 year old dog passed and we never got a reply back (I called immediately the day after he passed, as he passed late in the evening and their office hours were closed). We have received no reply. Just a bill for hundreds of dollars when we picked up his ashes from the hospital we took him to. I wanted to choose his urn. What a mess and disappointment. This company caused more trauma and stress during an exceptionally difficult time. Sigh. read more

As a home hospice and euthanasia veterinarian, picking the right crematorium is essential. After 15 years, I will never work with anyone but Animal Memorial Service! Jeff and his staff are amazing. They respond quickly to requests, and always try to go above and beyond. Sometimes, I have extra large dogs that I worry about handling respectfully, and call Gina to see if they have anyone available to meet me at a house for pick up. Every time I have called, they have had a driver meet me. I know that they have rearranged schedules to do this. Sometimes, I leave the driver waiting for me in their van for an hour while I help the family - they NEVER give me attitude or mention a thing. The drivers are also AMAZING. They are so courteous and professional - you can tell they really do care about final arrangements. Shout out to Raquel and Anna for going above and beyond most often in helping me! Jeff even took me for a personal tour of the facility - they truly do everything individual and with the utmost respect. I have used them with my own pets when their time to cross the rainbow bridge came, and they are the ones I trust with my own clients. Thank you, AMS.
