This is definitely some of the BEST Middle Eastern in the city!! The lemon lentil soup is a MUST- one of my favorite soups of all time!! Their hummus & tabouli is DELISH- with the perfect combination of garlic and lemon, and the red pepper hummus is awesome, this my "go to place" for these dishes. ate there 7/27/20023 just had appetizers and the food we had was good... did not eat dinner items but heresay says the dinner items aere very small portions... reason for this is, if you walk with a cane or have handicaped problems this is not a place for you...when it is busy or other wise it can be dangerous...(getting in and around the restaurant) also unless you get get one of the few parking spots in front there i not any parking but there is a city parking lot pretty close by. there is also 3-4 spots in back but no way to get into the restaurant which they should try to correct but for those spots and the city parking area.. norman schwartz read more

This place is pretty damn good -- one of my favorite Mediterranean places in the area. I tend to get the falafel sandwich and fries -- simple as shit -- but yesterday I got *that* (because I'm simple as shit) with a side of cauliflower and zip sauce and grilled vegetables. I've ordered from AK 4 or 5 times since COVID started, and it's always been stupidly good and consistent. The falafel sandwich on its own at $7 is an okay value, but adding fries for $4.50 makes it a full-on meal. The cauliflower isn't battered and appears flash-fried, but with the zip sauce (which is very much like a buffalo sauce) is pretty damn addicting. Salty, vinegary goodness. The side of grilled vegetables sounds stupidly uninteresting, but grilled veggies just hit different... so damn good. The fries don't have anything inherently special about them, but it's tough to find a fry I don't like. ‍ In the past, I've gotten their lemon lentil soup, and it's a trip. Then again, I'm just all about lemon anything in soup. Sorry for the review being a bit messy, but alcohol will do that to a man. Vegans looking for some good ass food, consider Anita's. Great service and the food was good and interior isa modern decor. I really wasn't sure what I was in for but I was happily surprised. I sat the bar and the bartender was attentive and gave suggestions. I stayed with the appetizers as I'm vegetarian and that filled me up. My friend who suggested it Anita's had the lamb and loved it. Overall it was ok. When I first arrived the hostess acted as though she never saw me walk in the door. She was speaking with someone, but as they've done in many of the other restaurants I've been to; when she made eye contact she could've said I'll be right with you. Nope not the case at all. The food was good but didn't taste like authentic Lebanese food to me. Our waitress Holly wasn't horrible but she wasn't very personable. She recommended the Blueberry Apple Sangria so I ordered it. But they put so much ice in it, it tasted like flavored water. When I sent it back she seemed highly agitated. I ordered wine instead and she said if you don't like that they're not gonna take it off. The atmosphere is lively and the decor is very eye catching! Anita's Kitchen, oh how I wish I could bring you home with me! If there's one thing from Anita's that I will include in my list of things to eat before I die, it's their Kibbeh Nyeh. Its lamb tartare (aka raw, uncooked meat) served with onions, pita bread, and olive oil on the side. But man, the flavors of this dish were amazing and I still have dreams of eating this. Another stand out dish was their lamb chops. These were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The tabbouIeh salad was an amazing side to this dish. I almost wanted to steal the lamb and tabbouleh from my bf but that would have been mean. The mixed grill is a good option for those who want to try a little bit of everything. It comes with a shish, kafta and tawook kebabs. My favorites were the shish and kafta kebabs. I thought the tawook (which was chicken) was a little dry and alright but definitely go with either beef or lamb. I'm looking foward to coming back to Anita's Kitchen during my next visit to get my Kibbeh Nyeh fix! read more

This place never disappoints. Being gluten free in metro Detroit is exhausting and this place is comfort, reliable, healthy, clean, unique, fresh and delicious. The grape leaves are my absolute favorite but honestly, I can't think of anything I don't like there except the coffee. The Joe's wings are so delicious. The chopped salad is even exceptional. This is definitely my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. The service was just ok this particular day but the front door staff were very nice and friendly. I tried the 3 meat, which was really good. The steak was a little over done and tough which is usually the case with pieces so small. I assume they cook cube steak or steak chunks instead cooking an entire steak and then cutting it up. Anita's has been recommended to me for a very long time and I really wish I had checked it out sooner. What I wasn't told is that they serve raw kibbeh here, which is my absolute favorite food, and before finding it in my area I had to travel to Al Ameer for it. The kibbeh was great, though being asked for a spice level was very foreign to me. I tried spicy, being an enjoyer of spicy food, but I think traditionally it wouldn't have any heat and going back I would definitely not go that route, though it was worth trying. The staff is friendly, and the service is second to none. Their chicken dishes are superb and always flavored perfectly with just the right amount of garlic, lemon and spices. Try the Kababs or Deboned Chicken. Same for the lamb chops. The cuts are cooked to arrive juicy and tender, yet slightly charred just on the edges for that perfect grilled flavor. You can never go wrong with the Shawarma sandwich. Chicken or lamb. The falafel is the best I've ever had and when eaten in a pita wrap sandwich with all the fixings it's to die for. I cannot go there without getting the grape leaves. Delicious! And if you are an ice tea drinker try the refreshing mint flavored ice tea. It's unsweetened, but I never miss the sugar as the mint does the trick without the extra calories. The well lit ambiance during the day adds to the energy of this awesome restaurant. They have a really good selection of wines and beer as well. Deciding to go eat at Anita's is a no brainer. Anita's Kitchen hit all the right notes - good service, good ambiance, and good decor. A gal pal and I visited after work and before our improv class at nearby Michigan Actors Studio. GP had the chicken shawarma dinner and I had the special - stuffed koosa, which are tiny yellow squash stuffed with ground lamb and covered in a piquant tomato sauce. Boy, were they good! And Gal loved her shawarma, too. She let me try the hummus - yum! I don't get to Ferndale too often, but there's another Anita's Kitchen around the corner from me in downtown Detroit, and I will definitely be checking it out. read more

Wow wow wow!!! This place will deliver an epic experience for your taste buds. Everything we had was bursting with flavor and a perfect amount of zing! We ordered the family pack of chicken shawarma. The meal came with chicken shawarma, brown rice, garlic sauce, hummus, salad w/ dressing, pickles, pita chips and pita. The real stars were the garlic sauce and the chicken. My husband and I can't stop talking about how delicious and fresh everything was. We're visiting from out of town but we will definitely be grabbing some more food from here before we head back home. This place is a winner from square-one. The food is colorful, light and tasty. I had the Chicken Feta Fattoush and it was superb! Appetizer for the table was the Humus Trio with plenty of bread for dipping (loved their Jalapeno hummus dip). Service was spot-on and the seating comfortable. Their covered patio is gorgeous, especially on a warm summer day. Throw in a slight breeze and it's the tops! Others at my table ordered the Chicken Shawarma entrée, the Mediterranean entrée, the Crushed Lentil Soup with stuffed Grape leaves, and finally one Beef Burger with fries. Make sure that when you go here for curbside service you actually ask them where to pick up your food. I arrived for a curbside order, TALKED to a staff member for pick up about said order and was told they were bringing it out only to wait more than five minutes for someone to run out and tell me (without an apology for the confusion and inconvenience), that curbside can't be done in front of the building any longer. My sister had always talked about how great Anita's Kitchen was. I always assumed it was an overpriced bougie wannabe of the no-frills mom-and-pop Middle Eastern places I knew and loved, based on its prime Woodward Ave location and a building design that fits in with the other trendy bars and restaurants in Ferndale. I was so wrong! I met my sister for dinner and we sat on the patio on a sunny summer day. We drank the fresh-squeezed lemonade and shared an assortment of all of our favorite Lebanese dishes. I realized that their great attention to design and detail doesn't mean that a business is inauthentic or inaccessible -- in fact, it's the complete opposite. My whole experience dining at Anita's felt like being a guest in the home of someone who takes pride in making their friends comfortable and happy. We sat among other families and friends having great food, conversation, and laughter. The dishes absolutely as authentic, delicious, and as reasonably priced as those no-frills places I was used to. If I lived in or near Ferndale, this would definitely be a go-to of mine and it is absolutely a place I recommend to others. read more

Anita's Kitchen is amazing. There are so many Middle-Eastern restaurants in metro Detroit, but for me, Anita's is just a step above. First, their HUMMUS is the BEST around. Seriously, I am a major hummus fan, I eat it all the time, and Anita's is just the best. I don't know what they do to make it taste so special, but it really stands out. It's absolutely perfect. My other favorite item is their salmon with the tahini dill sauce - yum! That tahini dill sauce is also something special. It's good on everything! (Especially the falafel) Order a side of it, you won't be disappointed. The chicken and lamb shawarma, grilled veggies, salads, dressing, everything is so fresh and on-point. Customer service is always great, and their catering is my favorite! Their baked goods are also impressive - the lemon tart they make is my jam. I've been here at least 20 times over the last three years and it's safe to say that this is my favorite Lebanese restaurant ever! I love everything about it from the decor to the food, everything about this place is just pleasant as hell! And for it to be located on Woodward, they have a ton of places you can park like in front on Woodward that's metered, parking on the side street that's also metered and a lot in the back. The food here is amazing! It's extremely fresh, seasoned to perfection and never ever disappoints! My favorites from here are the spinach pie and mujadara (lentils, rice and onions - so so good!), but this time around for lunch I got the falafel plate and my friend got the chicken shawarma. I chose to get a cup of soup to start, something I hardly ever do but I'm so happy I did. They have a "Lemon Lentil" soup that I have fallen in love with! When I ate meat I used to get chicken lemon rice soup all the time from coney, and I think this is suppose to be a variation of that, which is just incredible. For my lunch plate I opted to have my falafel baked, which tasted way better than fried I think. The rice, hummus and tabouli were on point as usual and my friend loved his meal as well. Let me start by saying that all their dishes are authentic and prepared very well. The only reason I did not give them a 5 star rating was that the service was slow and our waiter was really inexperienced. He brought out our appetizers, left the table and did not bring any silverware to eat with! Literally had to find him to ask for silverware. So, to the owner or manger of the establishment, do a better job in training your wait staff. The food is definitely the star of the show here. We started with a Babaganush and a grape leaf appetizer. The grape leaves we cooked to perfection, not your ordinary grape leaves out of a can, but obviously home made with a nice mixture of rice and meat on the inside. This is served with some tabouli salad on the plate. The Baba was perfect with all the right textures and just spiced right. Even the Pita bread was nice and thin and most importantly fresh. The mixed grill bowl was grilled to perfection and it's obvious that all the meats were marinated. We had the Chicken, Kofta and Lamb kebabs (see photos). They also make a nice Turkish cafe to finish your meal. Would highly recommend for a great middle eastern food taste. I hope the do get better waiters though! read more

solid 4 stars. Never had a bad meal here. Falafel is just great. Pickles are textbook. It succeeds at what its goal is. Great food and will not disappoint. I only give it 4 and not 5 stars because if you look a little harder there are restaurants in Hamtramck that (sorry Anita) blow this out of the water. This has been one of our favorite middle eastern places but thus time it was only a three star experience. It started with the server telling me I could not get a gin and tonic cause they don't have gin. Of course they do, but my server had never served anyone a drink of it. Ever. In 6 months. Ooook. We got chicken shish kebob and lamb shank. Our server didn't bring it out though, the manager on duty did. And she didn't stop to ask if we needed anything (extra garlic sauce for the chicken) till much later. Food was ok and server seemed confused, even though there were lots of wait staff on duty. Anita's never disappoints. I work at a sales office in Hazel Park and every single time we have a lunch meeting, Anita's is the go-to choice. We've ordered takeout at least 10 times, and they've never forgotten or messed up a single thing. Food is always consistently great and everyone from out of town always raves about their meal.
