Once again a terrible experience at Anjou. As usual there was basically nothing for sale. No- please don't say is because it's late in the day. I've been there early I've been there late is always the same. Empty cabinets, one tray of croissants, a few sandwiches (tuna + mayo) on white bread (no green), and granola. The guy in front of me - who was very polite- managed scroungd up some bits and pieces to buy. He was handed the iPad by the cashier who then POINTED TO THE GRATUITY SECTION and said 'here's the part for gratuity just to let you know so that you can give gratuity for good service' REALLY??? Please tell me when it became acceptable to point blank ask for a tip? For putting a croissant in a bag? Clearly, I bought my cookie and got out if there as fast as possible. Anjou- please pay your workers a fair wage and inform them that asking customers for tips is not ok. Also, it would be nice if you actually bothered to make more than 5 things. read more

You don't go to Anjou on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday because they are not open. I have driven by here twenty or thirty times this past year since I started working part of the time in Wenatchee. Thursday was the first day that they were open. I'd heard rumors about Anjou, that they provide bread for some of the delis and restaurants in town, more than that I was told that they have incredible pastries and other baked goods. We pulled in as the owner was laying down sand on the icy gravel parking lot. We walked in to the smell of fresh baked bread and coffee. This is a perfect destination bakery. The owner was working behind the counter and greeted us offering pieces of glazed cake that had slices of candied lemon on top, it was delicious. The cake was moist and sweet but not overly sweet. The sliced candied lemon added the perfect amount of tartness to this perfect baked good. We ordered three boxes of pastries. Beautiful almond croissants, small chocolate cakes, cafe sized chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies as well as a variety of muffins. I wish we could have stayed. Anjou is this converted farm house that has been lovingly turned into a bakery, deli and coffee shop. The interior is dark but inviting. The owner offered us sandwiches and wraps but we had people's waiting. Back at the office these boxes barely hit the table before people started coming out of their cubicles and interview rooms. At the start of my weekend in what I refer to as the middle of nowhere Washington I made a trip to the fantastic Anjou bakery. A favorite of my friends who frequent the area, the Anjou Bakery provides consistent delicious food. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy. The staff is friendly and make you feel welcome. Scattered benches outdoors and bench seating inside make for a relaxed meal. I recommend sitting outside and enjoying the scenery. When you get your food you can use the microwave to heat to your liking. The bakery has a grand selection of coffee, pastries, sandwiches and panini's. On my most recent trip I had a latte, almond pastry and a brie panini. All three were delicious. I am still trying to figure out how they make the that perfect design on the top of the lattes with the foam. (see photo) The bakery has limited hours, I believe it is only open Thursday - Sunday. Even then, heads up! Since my discovery of Anjou Bakery, the world suddenly became my enemy. Do not make haste on days you come across my check-ins. Why not slow down and enjoy life more? For, I'm the pestering bird that always gets the worm. The place could use a little home improvement, I'll admit. A VIP for yours truly, as an example. But, I can suffice with my very own marble statue. A take at Michelangelo's David, oughta roll in customers and tourists alike? I've been wanting to try this bakery (recommended by a few friends in years past), but we always miss the turn from US2! Well, we finally made the stop and we're glad we did! Ample parking, nice outdoor area and simple rustic interiors. The shelves were full of baked goodies so we got lucky. They had croissants, loaf cakes, cookies, pies and baguettes. We went home with a box of baked goods and really loved the blueberry cake, honey yogurt cake and double chocolate chip cookie (moist). Prices are reasonable especially for the mini loaf cakes ($3.50 each) that serve two people. Staff was friendly and the cafe was clean. read more

This quirky rustic little bakery cafe is full of deliciously flakey sweet treats (favs: cinnamon rolls, pie, croissants) amazing "purest" coffee (no fancy drinks), and the largest most delicious loaf of bread you will ever have. Chewy crust, moist center. We slice it, toast it and eat w butter and honey. Go early or call ahead to get what you really want- the best stuff goes fast. My family and I try to enjoy this place and their expensive food and coffee, but the owner just keeps ruining it for us. Never have I spent so much and felt so unwanted. They should just put up a sign that says "Buy our stuff and get the hell out." And whatever you do, don't bring your kids, cause you will get nothing but dirty looks. I wish the owners would just chill out and try to match the vibe of their slow, country barn setting. Instead they try to pretend to be elitist food snobs who own a crappy little barn and make expensive and most of the time 2 day old pastries and sell them for full price. We are never going back. Here is to bringing a couple french press's to the river, buying a couple pastries somewhere else and enjoying ourselves like you should on a Sunday morning. read more

This is such an amazing little stop! I only wish they were open more consistently. The lemon zinger drink (hot!) is a true favorite we look forward to every time. The sandwiches are also very good. I would love to love Anjou. The baked goods are excellent, if not a bit pricey. Maybe it's the je ne c'est quoi attitude of the help. I always feel like I'm in New York City,and the servers are sizing me up to see if I'm worthy of being a customer. It's not soup nazi from Seinfeld, but it's not Methow valley friendly either. My last visit, we inquired about macaroons. They are outstanding when they have them. The server pointed at the stacked meringues and said they were very similar to macaroons. Not! C'est incroyable si tu pense qu'un meringue est le meme qu'une macaroon. We've shifted much of our business over to lone pine north of orondo. The sandwiches there are excellent and great friendly service too. I will still make the occasional stop at Anjou, hoping the service improves. We certainly need a place like Anjou in the Wenatchee area. Hint to help: smile at customers. Some are obnoxious but they're helping to pay your salary, and you'll get bettertips too. read more

Out of step with what others have experienced here, we must have caught them on a off day. We timed our trip to get there for lunch. There did not seem to be any posting of what sandwiches were available, asked the young man he gave us three choices chose one, but my god $8.50 for a cheese sandwich? So I accept it's my mistake and I should have asked how much each sandwich type was. We have stopped here several times before and always enjoyed the place, but it seems disorganize and a bit seedy. While the baking is above average, the atmosphere is taking a steady decline. The bakery was initially a rustic barn with an old west touch. Over time a modern remodel has occurred and I feel like it's taken me from the old west with charm and history to an exaggerated attempt to recreate an opulent Ikea show room. Some things are truly just better left alone. It's seems if you're unknown or not a local, you're just not as welcomed. But at least they have some decent baking going on. read more

Stopped here on my in way in from Tacoma. Its kind of hidden, but it has good reviews and there's a little sign telling you where to turn. I asked for a peanut butter cookie and a choclatier (chocolate filled danish). I get back in my car and grab the cookie only to find a chocolate chip cookie instead of the choclatier. Back into the shop I go. I get an apology and she gives me the chocolate chip cookie as a bonus, AWESOME! Who doesn't like a chocolate chip cookie? And these are BIG! I start eating the peanut butter cookie. I bite into it...it's burned! All I taste is burned cookie! The middle was soft, but the outer crust was burned, not good. It also has whole peanuts, so they are falling out of the cookie as I'm eating around the burned outer rim and they are all over the floor of the car. I prefer chopped peanuts, but that's my preference. My problem here is a perfectly good peanut butter cookie has been destroyed by burning. When I get home and give my daughter the chocolate chip cookie it has the same problem, burned around the edges. However, the chocolatier, which is actually filled with dark chocolate, was good. Needs more chocolate though. At least this was my daughters reaction to it. read more

This bakery is very close to me so it's very convenient and the rustic ambiance is the reason I like to go there. However, the service is very cold and the sand which I ordered was cold inside and When I asked to have it warmed up it came back burnt and so crispy it tore my mouth up trying to eat it . The coffee is very weak. I keep trying to go back because I love the ambiance but I think I'm gonna have to give up on it. So disappointed. read more

this is located on highway 2 between Cashmere and Wenatchee. You can't miss it since there is a sign leading you to Anjou from the road. The structure is a rustic old farmhouse with a big porch. It's comfy and relaxed. The breads and pastries here are amazing and yet, they are extremely pricey so watch out. Lunch is served for a few hours and then you are relegated to quiche and a salad so don't expect more if you arrive late. They also make espresso which is tasty as well. They have unpredictable days of operation. For example, we drove from Seattle and arrived there around 2 pm on a Wednesday only to find them closed. Their hours state that they are open until 5 pm but alas, nobody was home. This will not stop us from recommending this place or returning but I would suggest calling ahead just to make sure. Their erratic hours could have left us feeling let down however, we would never had found Lamolo's had they been open in the first place (see my other review). read more

I really wanted to love this bakery based on the enthusiastically positive word of mouth recommendation that led us here. Coffee: They only offer espresso based beverages. While I love a latte as much as the next caffeine enthusiast, when I hear a place has "good coffee" I base this merit on drip. Granted, one can totally mess up espresso based drinks, but I feel drip is the benchmark of a good neighborhood coffee shop. My iced almond milk latte tasted fine. It would've been nice to have more than three sips of it as the entire cup was filled with ice. Pastry: I worried about reviews that claimed the pastries are over-cooked/burnt. I kept this to myself to have an unbiased opinion from my partner. On his first bite, he complained that his croissant was way over done, almost to the point of burnt. Sandwich: The reason I even stayed to place an order was for the Brie and Tomato baguette sandwich. Delicious. Though more tomato to balance the amount of cheese would've been appreciated (never would I ever have imagined that I would say something along the lines of "too much cheese", but here we are). Close to $9 for a *small* artisanal vegetarian sandwich is more than I would ever pay again. So, overall, we will never go there again. I am happy for them that they have been able to maintain a following within locals despite the increasing number of negative reviews. Perhaps they should start reading some of these and stop burning their overpriced pastries. read more

Just stopped in for the first time with my husband and our son, as we just moved to the area. Had high expectations when we pulled in because the place looks charming on the outside. Inside, however, was not so charming. Extremely rude service. Ive never felt so unwelcome somewhere. We got the Brie and tomato sandwich which was decent, but served cold, which was kind of a bummer. Waited 15 minutes in line to buy bread while the snotty owner and other gal took their time making over priced coffee while not acknowledging anyone standing in line. Says all nonchalant we won't have bread until 10:30... you're a bakery... just because you made it big making your crappy dry crostini for big markets in Seattle you're losing it here in Cashmere. read more

The food was delicious, we bought a breakfast sandwich, a cinnamon roll, croissant and lemon cake. Real artisan bread yum!! The only downside and the reason I'm not giving the full 5 stars, was the lady that helped me. She barely glanced at us and kept looking at the people behind me while I was trying to tell her what I wanted. When she gave me my receipt she didn't look at me or thank us and just turned to the next people. It wasn't even that busy so that wasn't the issue.
