    two jars of spices
    Paul S.

What might seem banal to those living in the creature comforts of a wealthy midwestern city is the proverbial gold strike for those is less advanced urban settings where mail order is often the only option to obtain rare spices, herbs and teas. Over the years I've enjoyed purchasing things here to bring back to California and use as gifts for friends with a culinary interest. While not everything here is "exotic" the quality of each item is superb. My recent visit showed that the store expanded somewhat and spices tend to be prepackaged is 1oz. portions. If you want more then bulk options still exist and price per ounce is listed on every glass canister. I was pleased to see some useful sea salt combinations, such as Porcini flavored, and the tea section was larger than memory served. My usual preferences are for middleastern and African spice mixes but I'm willing to sample whatever strikes my fancy too. Overall, I think this shop is evolving well, the plastic the spices come in won't break down and get sticky like their previous sift to order types and the selection has also expanded to represent more ethnicities and cultural preferences.

Ceylon cinnamon. The staff informs me that this is true cinnamon. Regular cinnamon is actually "cassia".

While they have a very small selection of clothing, it is very unique and worth the drive. We were searching for an out-of-state vendor they sold here. We were not disappointed. We found exactly what we were looking for and more. We purchased some clothing, earring, and stickers, but found many more items to come back for later. The individual working here was super friendly, talkative, and helpful and made our experience here even more magical. This is such a magical mystical store, it has an esoteric awesome vibe. Highly recommend seeking out this store.

They also carry baked goods and various other prepared foods from local businesses like Zingerman's and Avalon. They do $6 sushi rolls after 8pm every night as well as some excellent deals on baked goods (50% off). The sushi is usually $11-15 a roll so the discount is great. It's not the best sushi in the world but it's very good for grocery quality. Otherwise, they (unsurprisingly) mostly carry organic and small-business brands. They have good sales sometimes but even then you can expect prices to be about 25% higher than what you'd see at a "normal" grocery store. Overall it's a fun place to go if you want high quality products but it's not really a feasible substitute for everyday shopping due to the prices. Will go back for the sushi at a minimum!

It is off Plymouth and right off of 23, so it was super convenient to hit up on the way to my friend's house. It's a bit pricey, but you would expect for a smaller specialty store than a big box store. Before going to this market I used to think my friend was a decent cook and then I was able to see how the food was always prepared and packaged perfectly to go right onto a sheet for the oven. The food quality of the salmon or chicken or whatever was always good. Makes for a good appearance of a good cook to even the most basic of cooks (Nuke kings and queens).

Tracklements has an incredible assortment of cold smoked & hot smoked salmon. I opted for: *NORTHCOUNTRY GRAVLAX-CURED - We make a traditional Scandinavian style cure with allspice, coriander, juniper berries, and lots of chopped fresh dill. Less traditionally, ours is cold-smoked over our hardwood blend for a firmer texture, with full salmon flavor and longer shelf-life. *PASTRAMI-CURED - A blend of many spices, paprika, coriander and pepper come to the fore-a perfect combination with the salmon. Both were SO good. But what surprised me the most was the SMOKED CASTELVETRANO OLIVES. Even my friend, who dislikes olives greatly, said it tasted more like bacon to her. Ha. 1lb of cold smoked and then olives ran me $50. Pricey but good value and really delicious food!
