After being sold last year and having new owners, Galleria is still best Asian market in the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area hands down. They have added additional items in the store since the pandemic, including cooking items like, triangular rice molds for making onigiri, disposable chopsticks, and tableware. The management has also added a few new types of rice, including Tamanishiki, which is a super premium short grain rice that is used in high quality Japanese restaurants. "This type of rice is a combination of Koshihikari rice and Yumegokochi rice, with a rich flavor and excellent texture." Likewise, they carry Nishiki, and various Korean brands as well As always, the interior or the store is very, very clean, and items are well stocked. Likewise, the staff will go out of their way to special order some items if they are not normally carried on the shelves. Awesome little Asian supermarket in town. I flew in to visit family and they were craving homemade pho. I debated visiting the various Asian markets in the area and chose this one because of its size. I was able to find all the ingredients except for the pho spices, which I already had and had brought from home. The only downside is that all of their meat was frozen. Finally checking out this Asian market. It's bigger than I thought it would be. Checking out what fresh homemade items they offer up. Mostly some banchans and packages of Napa kimchi. No Kimbap, except for frozen bulgogi Kimbap, which doesn't sound fresh or appealing to me at all. I do like their Buldak tteokbokki, it's not bad if you are craving some spicy Tteokbokki that's quick and easy. No bottles of corn tea here at all. Convenient parking in front of the store. Employees are pretty rude. I was standing in front of a refrigerator and looking at an item when one ran into me without saying excuse me. It could be cleaner in here, and not a lot of effort in keeping things organized. The main reason of my irritation and major pet peeve, deceptive pricing. I really hate when things are marked one price and they ring up another one. I bought a few grocery items and some premade food, the premade food was packed in sets of 2 marked $4.75 for two. Instead she charged me $9.00 for two at $4.50 each. Her reasoning is I don't know know why this is wrong . The proper response would have been an apology, or even charge me for the price as marked. I'm a fan of Galleria/Korner Kitchen! It's one of the few places locally where you can buy premade onigiri (and also find the onigiri wrapping sets that you can use to make and bundle up your own at home!). The market feels slightly higher priced than Hua Xing for some items, but it's a great, clean and well-organized store with a good selection of items from different types of asian cuisine nonetheless. I also think I would like to come by Korner Kitchen more often for onigiri and sushi given the reasonable prices and fast service. We shopped here for years when under for years when it was under the previous ownership. Its a nice store. Clean and well kept with a Korean focus as the previous owners were Korean. The prices were a little higher than H mart in Troy, but it was allot closer to us so worth it for getting certain items. We would load up at H mart periodically as the prices and selection was better. We have another store locally now we shop at so haven't been the Galleria in over a year but came the other day and was really shocked to see very high prices. We wont be back which is a bit sad as we had a tradition of a shopping here. When we went to Ann Arbor. If you need something quick it might work. I was able to find dumplings and condiments. Kimchi was available but not much else by the way of prepared side dishes. Clerk was helpful. Few if any Chinese products or fresh vegetables. YES I've finally found an asian market in A2 that sells shabu shabu/hot pot meat meat! Although it's frozen, it's better than not at all! I went to Tsai and they didn't have any. But anyways, Galleria seems to be a predominately Korean supermarket so I'm stoked to find this gem to stock up on black bean noodles, tekkboki, kimchi, etc. It seems like a pretty new store and the grandpa at the register watching his k-dramas is super presh. read more

Great go to place for our family. Everything we need is here. It's not Super H Mart, but it's close to home and convenient. My wife takes us here as a family when we need to restock on ingredients, tofu, rice, etc. We love their vegan kimchi as well as Pulmone vegan products that include jjajjangmyun and dumplings and soft tofu stew, etc. We also come for special vegetables, fruit, produce that is common for Korean stores to carry. I wish they would have more vegan desserts or vegan korean ice cream. In the mean time they have an assortment of things to choose from whether it's snacks and rice cakes and other foods. This place has a lot of vegan options which we like this place. Since covid, the place closed down and been doing online orders and taking food to the front. I made a list of orders and half of it wasn't available, and the other half wasn't the full items. First time here, nothing towards to employees, just management. Wasn't able to get in contact with them in making an order today. Phone doesn't really work and while it mention curbside pickup calls wasn't exactly going through to make an order. Went to the store in front and it was dark. In my book, they're more like a 3.5, but I didn't wanna necessarily bring their overall ratings down. tl;dr Good selection. Nice owners. Close-enough to me. Repeat customer. They are what I personally consider small-sized grocery market. Why does this matter? Because the real estate determines how many variants of the same items you can carry at the store. Your local, less-than 2000 sq/ft mom-n-pop stores would be "tiny," and the likes of HMart are your "large." You get some "mega" ones in big cities like Chicago, Atlanta, L.A., etc. If you're an immigrant living in suburban areas of the States, you get to form a decently close relationship with your local Asian groceries. I remember growing up near Indianapolis when my family first immigrated, the only place we could get any Korean grocery was a tiny place 35 minutes from our house that my distant cousins owned. These used to be your only outlets, where you can get anything resembling ingredients that's required for your own cultural cuisine, and also get in touch with news of your motherland. Growing up, one of our weekly treats was to detour there after the Sunday service and rent stacks of (probably illegally) copied VHS tapes of all Korean TV shows and K-dramas for 50 cents each and watch them throughout the week. (These were pre-internet days, which means I'm fully dating myself...) Gone are the days of sneaking back to the "employees-only" area (a.k.a. the back room) where they had 20 VHS machines cranking out copies of random variety shows, tearing open a bag of chips and chill with the cousins.. Anyway, back to Galleria. They're not as tiny as the one I grew up knowing, or the nearest one I have in Toledo. But they're also not your large/mega HMart either. Ann Arbor has decent number of both local and studying-abroad Koreans, as well as non-Asian clients, and the size of the store serves its purpose. If I feel up to it, or have other business in the area from Toledo, I make it a point to swing by and grab whatever things I'm in need for the week. I'm always hit with a dilemma of driving 25 minutes to the local one, 75 minutes to Ann Arbor, or 100 minutes to Canton. Each time is a little different depending on what I'm looking for, but Galleria generally meets the middle ground for price-to-availability ratio. I've seen up to a couple dollars differences in any given item between the tiny store to the large stores. Again, they have an okay variety of items. More than some, less than some. But definitely plenty to get you through your day-to-day needs. Any "specialty items," however you define them, you're better off in bigger places, at least so I've found. They're usually well stocked up. I've never had an instance when I couldn't find something I was looking for, which happens quite often in the nearest one to me. Owners are very nice folks, although you'll definitely catch them in bad days. I've seen them in their best days and some bad days. In a lot of ways, they remind me of my parents. They'll sometimes get into arguments with certain clientele, especially argumentative ones. But I'm gonna go out on a limb and boldly say that most people don't like argumentative people? Anyway, some might consider that unprofessional, but some might say that's just life. Walking into this store makes me feel like I'm back in Koreatown...until I walk out those sliding glass doors. This market is family owned and the couple are also so friendly and sweet. They have great options for dumplings, rice, seawee, kimchee, etc. They also make their own banchan (side dishes) and kimbap (Korean version of a california roll) and other tasties. Sometimes, they will even give you free snacks and also have a rewards card. I haven't used the card to get anything yet, but I'm sure I will one day. This is definitely the biggest korean market in Washtenaw County and possibly in Michigan. There was one place in Troy, but I think they've closed down. The prices for most of their groceries are comparable to other Korean markets but when it comes to quality of the produce, I would say GAM is the best. I have officially checked out every single Asian grocery store in the area. Boy was it an adventure. I also like grocery shopping; it has become somewhat of a hobby, so I also gauge prices. This is more of a Korean supermarket with other Asian groceries/snacks/noodles to supplement their inventory. Prices for snacks are on par with all other Asian supermarkets (including those in California). Their ginger was a bit expensive at $1.99/lb, and I would also watch the fruit you buy, as I saw some flies flying around. Their hot pot meat was OK priced, not terribly expensive. It's been a while since they were up and running... I stopped by on my way home since I needed some items. I'm changing my rating to 4 stars from my original rating and here is why... What I like... First and foremost, it's new and clean. I also like the fact that they actually have regular check out lanes... something lacking at Manna and Hyundai market. Second, selections - they do carry a lot of items - everything you'll need. Third , Banchans - they do have some home made items and the price is in line with Manna and Hyundai grocery store. Fourth - Service - they are very focused on service... While the price is in line along others, I can say with Galleria opening up, Manna and Hyundai have matched or lowered their prices... for example, if you wanted a two roll kimbap (Korean Sushi) at Manna, it used to cost $8, now it's $6, in line with Galleria... granted I think you get more for your money at Galleria. One thing that I do not like about Galleria is the entrance to the parking... I wish they planned better and had a second entrance/exit... it's too small and is the bottleneck... My bf and I are in Ann Arbor for 4 weeks to attend a summer program at the University of Michigan. We are staying at a place with a small kitchenette and we came here looking for food and misc. Asian supplies. Galleria did not disappoint! First off, this is one of the cleanest, un-smelliest Asian grocery stores that I have been to. Their products leaned Korean and some Japanese, which is exactly what we wanted, so for us the selection was perfect. We got some bulgogi at a good price and cooked that in a skillet for dinner. It was very tasty. The prices are good. The cute old man at the register barely speaks English so don't ask him if they sell bagged ice...they don't. We will definitely be back here for more groceries in the coming weeks. Wonderful Asian grocery store. The owner said they are a Japanese and Korean store. They sell a wide variety of products. It is a curious person's heaven. I love just shopping there and wandering around looking at all the foods that I haven't tried before. Of course they have the well-known Raman noodles and a wide variety of mochi choices. The employees are so polite and helpful. They took a lot of time to talk with me about the different types of tea they offer. I wish that the products were more clearly labeled...aka some just say "vegetables" instead of the actual vegetables in the products. This is one of the most clean and organized Asian grocery stores I've visited in the Southeast Michigan area. The foods are neatly arranged by aisle and on the shelves in a way that makes it really easy to find what you're looking for. They do not sell live seafood, but sell a variety of frozen seafoods and meats. I don't think I've seen many other stores in Ann Arbor carry items like abalone and octopus so I'm definitely excited to pick those up the next time the right occasion rolls around. The frozen aisles contain literally every food ingredient you will ever need for hot pot, such as thinly sliced beef, meat balls, squid rings, etc. This store also has a great bulk deal for yogurt drinks. Their snack and beverage aisles are so dangerous. I am a total sucker for Pocky and Milkis. They also have a huge selection of seaweed laver - so addicting and a healthier alternative to snacking on potato chips! This market wasn't around when I was in pharmacy school. If it was here, I would have definitely cooked more korean food. It's the best korean market in Ann Arbor. I used to actually go to the chinese markets on washtenaw to get korean stuff while i was in grad school. I wouldn't say it's cali style big with the mini stores in there, but it's the largest. It has everything I need. Since i'm married now I cook alot of korean food and this is the first place I go for all of the ingredients. The other korean markets, I always had to HOPE that it was there and half the stuff I had to go to the american grocery stores to get it. THis place allows for one stop which is a MAJOR PLUS! The store owners are really nice too :) loved the service. It's clean, has everything. The owner is a mom and pop and they are always greeting everyone and even walk around to say hi. THe price.. i don't really look at too much since i don't have other places to compare. I pay for convenience -- the fact i know everything will be there. It's a cute little Korean market located in Ypsi. You can tell its own by a Mom and Pop as Pop is the only one checking out a small line of customers. Definitely adorbs and has some Asian goodies like Korean noodles, kimchi, Mochi balls etc. unfortunately the selection is on the smaller side, and the price is not much cheaper than chained grocery stores. I would definitely be back if I want some Korean seasoning or frozen food, but with such limited variety of fruits and vegetables I probably won't be doing my weekly shopping here. read more
