I've used her three times and she does great work for for reasonable prices. First time I had her shorten the sleeves and reinforce the buttons on a Kenneth Cole wool overcoat, think that was $35. Second time my favorite old Pierre Cardin leather jacket's liner was shredded at the bottom. The liner was divided in half top and bottom, so she was amazingly able to replace the whole bottom half of the liner with new, almost the same looking but stronger material and she even preserved the narrow red piping between the leather and the liner - $40 for that. Last week I brought in a new casual jacket I just bought but the sleeves were too long. $24 to do that and fix a pair of dress pants that the hem had come loose on. She isn't the fastest when she's busy, but otherwise so far, Ann has been great! read more

Ann has an amazing spunky personality, has done a great job on some alterations, but not on others, and could do a better job respecting her clients' time. I have only gotten casual clothes altered by Ann, most were pants. Ann did a great job on all the hems I have had her do, way better than my old tailor. I also had her take in the waist on a few pairs of pants. When I first brought them in, she said I could just get away with her just adding in a strip of elastic, so she didn't need to measure me as closely. However, a week or so later, I had someone go in to pick up the pants for me (when she said they would be done) and she let him know that the elastic actually wasn't going to work and I had to come back in to be measured. I had to drive all the way down to Sunnyvale from Palo Alto again, and then had to wait again for them to be ready to picked up. Right away the waist on 2 of the pants wasn't take in enough and still would ride down as I walked around. A few months later, the waistband from one of the pairs of jeans she altered is coming away from the rest of the pants (and I haven't worn them that much). Also, someone I am very close to LOVES taking his clothes to get tailored by Ann, but often shows up to pick them up when she says they will be ready and they aren't. She will tell him to come back later, sometimes 2 weeks later. Moral of the story is, some people really love Ann, but she is too disorganized for me and the quality of work that I have experienced has been hit or miss. read more

Ann is great. I'm not a skinny girl and I went to her with a dress that needed to be let out and shortened. She gave me more room around my boobs. Also added a flexible fabric under my arms. She didn't rush the project, but made sure I had it in plenty of time. She knew it was for my wedding and wouldn't let me shorten it too much. I came to Ann with my wedding dress alterations. What was important to me was (1) Close to home (2) Good reviews. She fit the bill and I was hoping for the best. Let me tell you that she did not disappoint. Ann is very hardworking and the number of wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses, and prom dresses that were lined up to have her work on was evident. She has a system that works for her. I had a total of 3 visits to see Ann over the course of 2 months, starting in May 2017. This is what I planned since my wedding date was at the end of July. For wedding dress fittings, she prefers to have you come after normal business hours and you have to schedule the appointment. This way it is private for you and your guest if you have any. There are always people coming in and out to drop off their items to be hemmed during normal business hours and she only wants to focus on you. She knows her sh**t that once you show her what you need she'll be able to tell you how long it will take. During my fittings, she explained to me the step by step process of what she was going to do to my wedding dress to make it perfect for my wedding day. My dress was a little complicated with lots of intricate beading and a fluffy petticoat. I wanted to bring the fluffiness down a bit, bring in the sides of the dress, and shorten the dress. She was able to do this perfectly. It honestly looked as if the beading on the dress had not been touched. Her pricing is fair and she is very upfront about everything. She thoroughly explains the cost depending on how much work may need to be done. Example: She had to sew the beads back onto my dress by hand. These were tiny beads and she had to remember the pattern. As I said, it looked perfect and I was more than happy to pay the extra fee (which really wasn't that much). It's important that you tell her exactly what you want or an idea of what you want so she could do her job. For a job like this, I put down a deposit then paid the remaining balance when my wedding dress was finished. She also let me store the dress even though it was done because I had asked her if I could since I had no place to put it without my husband seeing it. read more

Knowing that I have trustworthy tailor has actually changed the way I buy clothes - now I won't hesitate to buy a dress/shirt/skirt that is lovely in concept but a poor fit bc I know I can just take it to Ann to get it right! I found Ann Sew Perfect when I lived in Sunnyvale... it was so convenient to drop in, get pants, jeans hemmed and pick up a few days later. I had an extremely last minute request to hem a dress that Ann was able to turn around the same day! I called her and asked if she could accommodate such a last minute request. She told me that she only would have time to hem, which was exactly what I needed. I dropped off my dress at about 2:30pm yesterday to get hemmed. Ann pinned the dress quickly and said she could have it ready by 7pm. I appreciated her fast work and kind demeanor! When we went to pick up the dress, she knew I was going to wear it the next day so she spent extra time ironing the dress to make it look perfect. I called Ann Sew Perfect about alterating my wedding gown after reading so many great reviews on Yelp. I asked Ann for a general quote but understandably, she said she couldn't give me a quote over the phone and that I would need to come in. Ok, I said, I'll drop by your store later today. Within an hour or two, I stopped by the store with my gown. She was helping another customer so she asked me to have a seat. But after that customer left, she continued helping and talking to other customers in the store while I just sat and waited. Ok, the store is busy so maybe Ann is just distracted so I continued to wait. After the customers left, she finally asked me what I needed. I explained I wanted to alter my wedding gown, and Ann started asking me a couple of questions like how I wanted it to be altered, when I needed it by, etc. She was leading me towards the dressing room at this point, and I was glad things were progressing here. Then, Ann noticed another customer standing there (this customer came AFTER me by the way) and started helping her!! Um...hello? Am I invisible?? But I keep my mouth shut and continue waiting. Ann comes back to me, looks at my gown and tells me I need to come back and make an appointment for fitting. WHAT. Why couldn't she have told me this over the phone when I first called?! And why couldn't she have told me as I was sitting and waiting there? She explained that she needs to devote her full attention to gown fitting because it's distracting with customers walking in and out, so she told me to come back around closing time. Fine, that is understandable but again, why can't you tell me that earlier instead of having me wait? Also I didn't appreciate that she tended to other customers and practically ignored me until the others were gone. I should also comment that there were a lot of gowns from Trudy's at her store and frankly my gown is not anywhere close to high-end, so perhaps Ann didn't think my business was worthwhile. Had a really bad experience with Ann. Not sure if it was just a bad day for her or what but she completely ruined by dress. I came in to get it altered and she said that she would do it for $50 which I think is way over priced for the job. Since I had already had the dress on and her scissors were already in her hands. I was kind of pressured into going through with it. I guess I kind of expected her to do a really good job for the price. To my surprise when I picked up the dress the front was longer than the back. My measurements don't exactly equal 36-24-36 but I have the same shape meaning my waist is about 2 sizes smaller than my T&A. I'm also short. Too short for regular sizes and too tall for petites, or maybe its just my big boobs and butt getting in the way again. I can never find anything that fits me properly so finding a great alterations shop that is quick and not too expensive is a top priority. Ann totally fits the bill. She specializes in wedding stuff and custom made apparel but she is more than happy to fix anything. For me that means taking the waist in on almost everything and making slight adjustments to keep my boobs from busting through my tops. I also always need to have my jeans hemmed and its only $8, definitely a more than fair price. Just prior to my move to the South Bay I lost almost my entire wardrobe, as I'm slowly replacing things I'm glad to have Ann around to make me look better and to entertain me when I stop in - she's a riot. Not sure how the rating is so high for this place. First she charges way too much to alter my jeans, then makes them way shorter than they should have been. When I went in to have her adjust it she acted like it was my fault and would not find a way to fix her mistake. I called for a quote over the phone. Pants are too big and a skirt. She said 8-10$ to alter. So I went into her shop and she had me put on the clothes and she said it would cost $35 each! Ann is so great! I took my wedding dress to her for some last minute alterations - it needed a hem and a bustle. She showed me all the different types of bustles and recommended one based on the weight of the dress and the fabric and she was able to complete the alterations within 2 weeks - a Godsend! The hem was done impeccably and the bustle lasted the entire night! Almost everyone I know had their bustle completely fall apart mid-evening. She even gave me some double-sided fashion tape to hold my dress close to my body in places that tend to gap. Such a sweet lady. I'll definitely go back for any other alteration needs. read more

I had some nice pants altered at another local highly-rated tailor. I had the waist taken in and the other tailor screwed up the fit of the pants. I took them to Ann, showed her the job, she knew how to fix them right away. I picked up a week later and voila! Pants fit much better now. She was able to undo the previous work and then alter them again to fit better. Only $38 which seems like a good price to me. Ann was very friendly and nice too, I liked her a lot! A bit hard to understand, but no problem as long as the work is done right, which it was! I will be coming here for my future tailoring needs. read more

I can't say anything regarding her ability to tailor or alter clothes. My experience with this shop didn't make it that far because when I drove over there they were closed despite it being their posted hours. There was a note on the door saying she had an appointment and that she would be back in a few hours. She may be a good tailor, but may also lack business sense. I understand there isn't a good way to effectively communicate the fact that she had an appointment out to the masses, but there should've at least been someone else there to cover for a couple of hours. The one star is for poor business practice. I took my three articles of clothes to another nearby tailor and will likely continue to do so. read more

I've had her tailor a bridesmaid dress, some jeans, plenty of dresses (she didn't even charge me for some of the dresses since the alterations were so quick), and my wedding dress; she gave every article of clothing her amazing attention to detail. I had bought my wedding dress on-line since I knew that any dress I bought would need to have tons of work done since I'm so short. I brought in a dress and a pair of men's trousers. The dress just needed a simple strap adjustment and the trousers needed to be let out a little. Both items were completed well. Total cost = $40. A little on the pricey end but it comes with quality. Ann is very nice and talented so I'll be back. She gets quite busy, so keep that in mind when dropping off items under crunch time. So I went in to this place today to get my brides maid dress altered. I tried it on and told her what length I wanted, everything was going great. So I asked her the price and she said $60 dollars for hemming and I told her that was to much and I didn't want to pay that much just for hemming, that's half of the cost of the dress. She got mad and told me that she was going to charge me $25 dollars for taking up her time. I was like the what the heck??? I said there was no way I'm paying u, that's ridiculous. Excellent place to get alterations done. I had a couple of jackets taken in at the waist and around the chest here and they did a great job. They were careful to cut the seams at a place where it would't move the location of the side pockets. Just the fact that she noticed that cared to take that into consideration is a huge plus in my book. The store owner (?) was super nice and talkative the whole time and made me feel welcome. Some of these places just take your clothes and give you a receipt but I actually felt welcomed here. Prices were not the best but similar to other places in the area. Ann will be honest about whether or not an alteration or repair requested is worth the cost. Of course she'll do it and do an awesome job if you insist, but at least you know what you are paying for. She provides a high level of expertise in what she does and pays attention to detail so when you get the garment back, it's hard to distinguish what she altered vs. what was original. I am so glad I found Ann! She is a gem! I bought my wedding dress at a boutique wedding store (black friday sample sale! Amazing discounts on designer dresses!) but didn't want to pay their high prices for alterations. The dress has very intricate lace and is made out of silk fabric so I was cautious about alterations. After talking to Ann for just a few minutes I knew I was in good hands. She showed me a dress she hand-made for her own daughter ... it looked so professional and intricate (I couldn't believe it was hand-made) so I knew I was at the right place. She treated my dress like it was her own, she loved the dress and was really excited about working on it. Her years of experience are very clear from talking to her. She knew exactly what needed to be done and was very good about advising me about my options. Over the course of four months I visited her about 3 or 4 times. She is very flexible and accommodating with her schedule (even let me come in after-hours). Her prices are very reasonable for the amount of work done and the intricacy of the dress. She added a (gorgeous) 6-button bustle (with discrete color coding), brought in the chest and shoulders and backside (2 sizes down), shortened the length several inches (on multiple layers), and added cups. She even fixed some tears in the lace that resulted from clamping the dress during my in-store fittings (I didn't even notice them until Ann pointed it out). It fits like a glove, the dress looks like it was made for me! The price was fair for the amount of work and time went into it. On top if it all, Ann is just the sweetest lady. I had a lot of fun sharing stories, sharing photos, and hearing about her daughter's wedding and her sewing experiences! I brought in my mother in law for my later fittings and we both agree that we will be recommending Ann to anyone who needs wedding or formal attire alterations! Thanks Ann for everything! I just recently moved into the area, so naturally I had to find a new sewing and alterations spot. Love this place and it's now my new go-to place to get my new clothes fitted perfectly. Quick breakdown: Location: 5/5 stars This place is easy to find as you can spot it when driving along Mathilda Ave (that's how I found it in the first place). It's near the downtown area, so you can get a lot of your errands done since everything's close to each other. Parking is a breeze as there's private parking around the back. Work quality: 5/5 stars Had some work done on three of my dress shirts. All came out perfect and pressed. Ann is very knowledgeable when it comes to getting the perfect fit, and knows all of the minute details of getting the measurements just right. The price is very fair considering the quality of work put out. You might be able to find a cheaper place, but it most likely won't match the quality that Ann produces. Came in here after reading the other good reviews and was not disappointed. As soon as you walk in you get the sense that she knows what she is doing--there is a stream of customers coming in and out with all kinds of work being done while she talks to them about their requests, and she remembers people who come in and what they want. I took two pieces to her, a lined silk dress I wanted made into a skirt, and a pair of leggings that needed repair (after another alterations place botched it the first time). She did excellent work and the price was reasonable (and we chatted a bit about where I got the dress and some of the items she's bought from the same shop)--I will definitely come here again. read more

My friend recommended me here for my wedding dress alterations and I couldn't be happier. I went in on three separate occasions and Ann completely altered my wedding dress to fit me perfectly. She had to shorten all six layers of the skirt and took in the bodice on the sides and somehow magically made the bust smaller to fit my cup size without altering any of the lace on the top (there had been a giant gap). My wedding was this past Saturday and I wore my dress for 12 hours without any thoughts or worries. It was comfortable and I never had to tug it up or down or into place. I have not actually had anything altered here yet due to circumstances so my review is for how helpful and nice Ann was. My wedding dress came in a month ago and was quite small. I went to her to have it altered, she was really helpful and the price she quoted me was extremely reasonable, so I put down a deposit. A week later, I found another dress that was going to work out much better than trying to alter the old one, but I was worried about my deposit. My fiance went in yesterday to pick up my dress and talk to her about the deposit. She recognized him right when walked in, got my dress and refunded 90% of my deposit--no questions asked. I have items I need to have altered, and I know I will be going to Ann to get them done! I was extremely impressed with her manner and her prices. read more

Ann is super skilled at what she does and she is a sweetheart. I was recently in a wedding where I needed to buy this very odd colored suit. The color was difficult to find in my size so I ended up buying one that was a perfect color match for the wedding and just thought to get it tailored. When I got the suit, it looked very cheap and not so flattering. I was so nervous about wearing this in front of hundreds of people. However, Ann worked her magic and tailored this suit so perfectly.
