I moved to Sunnyvale last year and wasn't sure which alteration shop to try since there were several in the area. I needed two suede jackets with zippers shortened, and from the research I had done online, I knew it wouldn't be an easy job. The first alteration shop I visited immediately tried to discourage me from doing the alteration and suggested I buy new jackets instead. They repeatedly emphasized how difficult it would be to cut the zipper and work with suede. Then I went to Kim's, and the experience was completely different. I was welcomed with a positive, can-do attitude right away. She was confident about the work and even quoted me a lower price than the first shop. One week later, I picked up two perfectly fitted suede zipper jackets. The quality of the work is fantastic. I've already received several compliments on them, and I was especially impressed that the original zippers were preserved. they didn't alter the look of the jackets at all. Unfortunately, today's experience completely changed my opinion of this business. When I came to pick up my clothes, I brought another garment that had a tiny loose thread. I politely asked if they could spare about a foot of matching thread so I could repair it myself. It was such a small favor that would have cost virtually nothing. The gentleman I spoke with refused and repeatedly told me to go buy it somewhere else, even after I explained that I had already looked but couldn't find the exact matching color. What disappointed me wasn't the thread--it was the lack of courtesy and consideration shown to a loyal customer. After almost 10 years of bringing my clothes here, I never expected such an unfriendly response to such a simple request. Great customer service isn't just about cleaning clothes--it's about treating people with kindness and making customers feel valued. The service was terrible. I took two silk blouses in for dry cleaning, and both were damaged. One blouse had gold metallic threads in the lace area, which were completely ruined. I have no idea what went wrong during the cleaning process. The other blouse came back with very obvious color shading and discoloration. What made the experience even worse was that the staff showed no apology or responsibility for the damage at all. Very unprofessional service. I wanted to like this place because a friend recommended them to me my initial reaction was that I did like them because they had me try on the clothes and showed me how I was wearing one wrong instead of altering so I figured wow! Helping me to save money! However, when I did come to pick up my other dress that I did leave for them to alter, they didn't do much. They stitched 4 stitches per black cup onto my white dress. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that using black cups on white material means it can show easily through the dress. 4 stitches means those stitches can get undone easily, things can get caught underneath, and it can tear far too easily. I paid $45 for shoddy work and didn't feel like getting charged more. I cannot recommend this place because the quality of work is simply too low to justify paying for it. The only good thing about this place: They are responsive over the phone. Parking isn't too hard to find but it is a little hidden so keep that in mind. Edit: still comfortable with this review though appreciate the reminder there was taking in the sides. However, I was not offered a different cup color and the work is still, not great for the cup. read more

Cons: Not serious. No attention to details. Not enough craftmanship. Very busy location. Do not bring alterations here. Pro: Kim is a nice person. Kim refunded me the 17 $ paid. (I added 2 stars for the reasons above). Details: Brought linen pants with cuffs for shortening. After a one week wait, the resulting length was not right. Kim offered to redo. I came a few days later, after the pick up date. Pants not ready. Asked me to come the next day. Pants again not done, Kim said they forgot. So here I am, traveling for vacation, with no linen pants in hand. I would have preferred to be told that they don't have enough staff or are not interested in correcting their work, instead of having to drive two more times here. Overall, Kim and her team seem to work hard and greet you with a smile. But the lack of attention to details and the inability to deliver on time makes this business a flop for alterations purposes. read more

I usually go to them to get my clothes hemmed. They are inexpensive and do it right! For cutting sleeves and narrower the shoulder of my dress, I regret that I didn't take a picture before the service. Somehow the design slightly changed (the length of the sleeves or the opening of my bust area) but overall I have good experience. read more

They measured and marked all my adjustments then quoted me a higher but fair price given the amount of jeweled work they had to work around. Really the best! I've been loyal to one particular dry cleaner and have used him for minor alterations, but I wish I've been coming here instead! I first came in a few years back to have an evening gown altered. I'm curvy and always have to order 2-3 sizes up and alter down. They had NO problem altering this gown to fit me perfectly. I recently ordered a gorgeous custom gown from Ukraine for a very important event and it arrived 2 inches too small in the waist. I was super worried as due to the situation in Ukraine, there was no way to get a brand new one made and it's a fully tulle gown with a corset style bodice and didn't look like there was anywhere to let it out even an inch, but Kim's Alterations worked MAGIC and it now fits like a glove. I honestly have no idea how they did it in such a short amount of time (2 weeks), but I'm grateful beyond words and so happy. They have also been hemming and taking some of my other clothes in lately and everything is done well. Dry cleaning is always quick and their prices are extremely reasonable. They are open 7 days a week which is super convenient. The ladies here are very friendly and have even offered me food. DO NOT GO HERE. Charges me $95 to take my dress in. Gave it to them 2 weeks before the event. Called me the day I was suppose to pick it up (day before the event) saying it was not ready and asked if I could pick it up the day after (day of event). When I got there they only took the sleeves in and when I said they were supposed to take it in an inch they quoted another $50! The dress was only $40 online.. horrible experience and what a ripoff read more

I dropped off 2 pants for hemming at this place. I put a safety pin on one pants to show my desired length. Of course, I expected that both of them would have the same length. Turned out, one pants are 2" shorter than the other. I'm not sure what happened here, and I didn't know until I got home. My pants are just hiking pants so I wouldn't mind if they are a little too short. I didn't go back to the store and complain. It would have been a different story if they were my expensive jeans. If you have expensive pants, I woulnd't recommend bringing them here. They're fast and have reasonable prices, but quality is another story. You get what you pay for I guess... read more

I gave my blouse for fitting on the sides, both sides had zip. Before dropping off my blouse, I discussed the rate with a lady at the front, she explained to me the work to be done and gave me the receipt for pick up. Then Kim called me and said her sister gave me wrong estimate and she will only do the work if I agree to 1.5x as much cost. This was outrageous. She repeated the work just as her sister had explained to me; so nothing changed with the work needed. She also said to me that since she was not at the shop when I went there, it doesn't matter what price was quoted to me, since she is the one who fixes the prices. When I told her I didn't want her services, she agreed to do the work at the same price as quoted before. When I picked up my blouse, the fitting was done okay, but they kept my nice subtle zipper and replaced with a low quality clunky one, which I will need to get replaced somewhere else. Another lady working for her told me, "Kim is crazy, she tries to extort her customers, don't overpay to her". Thanks for the tip, after this experience, will never go back to her. read more

I took my engagement dress over to Kim's alterations to get it hemmed. I am 5"1" so this dress comes in a standard size for women who are 5"9". I asked them to hem the dress shorter in the front and leave the back long so it would have a trail. I even pinned the dressed for them exactly the way I wanted them to cut and sew it. When I came to pick up the dress up, they had cut the dress evenly all around. The back was actually too short when I put on heels and came to my ankles, while the front was still too long. The worst part was that instead of apologizing and offering to fix it in someway, they spent 20 minutes trying to convince me that they never touched the back. Their sign is not posted in the roft top like the other businesses, so I actually missed it and went in a circle trying to find it. Needed to get a couple inches taken off a dress, nothing fancy and essentially just not having myself trip in this dress. To take two inches off cost $30. I admit I was shocked to see the price was so high for a basic cut, but I didn't argue with it. I assume it's the average price for businesses in the Mountain View Area. Kim's Alterations is fantastic for your jeans alterations, especially when you want the original hem used (I don't know the term used). She was recommended by the Lucky dungarees store in Stanford Shopping Center. Instead of a regular alteration, the original hem is cut off, and re-sewn at the length you want, so it appears that it wasn't altered at all! The point of this, is so the jean looks untouched because it's difficult to hem jeans and keep it looking like it came out of the factory. Only $12 for it! Less than a week and I got my Hudson's back. I think if you mention Lucky Jeans from Stanford Shopping Center, and have them hem your Lucky jeans, it's only $10 a pair! read more

I dropped off my pants to be hemmed on 5/14 and was supposed to pick up on 5/19 at 6:30pm. When I showed up at that time, I was told they weren't done yet and to come back at 8:30pm. I had to get a ride since I could pick it up on my motorcycle so I told them I couldn't come back at that time. They told me to come back in the morning. They had my phone number from when I dropped off the clothes and could've at least called me to let me know it wasnt ready. Not only did they waste my time, but also my rides time. Regardless, they had 5 days to hem 6 pants and didn't have it done on time. I didn't want to waste my or my rides time again so I called in the morning to see if it was ready. It took 5 calls over the span of an hour for them to finally answer my call. Sad it didn't work out the way I thought it would when reading other reviews. read more
