I didn't get the name of the lady who runs the shop? She was nice to me. I came in to have 4 patches sewn onto my backpack. Total cost was $20. Not bad, because patches these days have glue on the back. That would've been hard to sew myself. Because she had a line the day I went, I told her no rush, and gave her 2 weeks to finish my project. Thank goodness I did, because there was a massive wind storm that shut the power down for two days! She needed that time to catch up on her orders. It is true, the shop doesn't open up when the sign says. Get there say 30 minutes after. I spent time walking around JoAnn's Fabric, and was lucky that when I got out, the shop was open. Goodness, what a waste of my 8 minutes. I came after having 2 people recommend this place to me. I needed alterations to my wedding dress, including adding sleeves. I was not greeted by the seamstress, which was still fine. But I went on to have the most mindnumbingly dense and concerning conversation of my year so far. She asked me numerous questions about how the dress fit, rather than just having me try it on and making her own determinations. I told her it would make more sense if I tried it on and she could look for herself. She ignored my suggestion and kept asking questions. She also asked me the same questions repeatedly. I think she didn't like my answers, so she was giving me another chance. Seamstress: "For sleeves, you have to bring in your own material. Do you have it?" Me: "No, but I can definitely bring it in." Seamstress: "How do I add sleeves to this?" Me: "I'm not sure what to tell you." Seamstress: "You need to bring in the material. Do you have it?" Me: "No, but again, I can bring it in." Seamstress: "So you don't have it?" After feeling confident that I didn't want this person anywhere near my wedding dress, we began to walk out, and she had the nerve to say, "You need to put on the dress so I can see what alterations you need." It's very convenient, the seamstress is friendly and helpful, and the work is good with a quick turnaround time....but I still thought it was pretty pricey at $15 each blouse to take the straps up one inch. Most recently, Vy altered my daughter's wedding gown which I bought fabric and had custom tailored overseas and it just didn't fit right. I've been coming here for years out of convenience and so what happened during my last visit did come as a shock. She told me she didn't like my business because I come in for small, low-cost alterations. For reference, my typical requests are: dress pants hemmed, dresses shortened or taken in at the waist, straps shortened, trench coat or blouse shoulders taken in, straps added or replaced. I'm not sure what more she wants from me...I'm in my mid-twenties so I don't have a prom dress or wedding dress for her to alter.... And if she considers my requests low-cost, she could raise her cost...after all, she makes up the pricing on the spot. She's the owner! Lol... Aside from this last instance though, I would have given her a three stars if this hadn't happened. She meets deadlines about 50% of the time (if even), doesn't give you a call if she can't meet the deadlines and more often than not has an attitude. She's also pricked me during 4 of my visits. (For reference, I've been to Zarin for at least 20 different instances, each time with a few items) In spite of all this though, I've kept coming back because she's 5 minutes from where I currently live and her prices are not bad. As for her altering skills, there's been a couple times where she accidentally altered something too short, which unfortunately were unsalvageable. Besides that though, she usually does an okay job. This lady is amazing! Both of my daughters were getting married one in May and one in July of this year. I had two different dresses so I needed both of them altered. One came in a week before the first wedding. I had never been there before but since I live here in Cupertino I wanted to give it a try.. I went in and was greeted by a nice lady, I told her I only have a few days before the wedding and need this dress to be altered. I was so worried , she calmly said try it on and lets see what we can do.. I tried it on and she pinned it and said dont worry I will have it ready for you... A few days later I came back and it was done the length was perfect..!!! Same thing with my second daughters wedding and she did the same thing. The prices she charges are more than reasonable, its not easy if it was we would all be doing it ourselves. She did a wonderful job she is just a one man show.. If I ever need anything done in a hurry but with care taken I would definitely go to her... And I would tell all my friends to also. I saw some reviews about clothing not being ready or someone not picking up their garment.. This lady does alot of work , and looks like she does all of it herself. I am sure she has not time to be on the phone calling people to come pick up their garments. Have some of your own responsibility for your own things!! I dropped off 2 work shirts, 1 pair of nice pants, and 3 work skirts for alterations. I had approached a couple other place for quotes on skirt alterations (making them a size or two smaller) and the quotes ranged from $25 - 35. The skirts are all very nice with lining (which other stores pointed out as the reason for the high price). Zarin gave me a reasonable deal at $18/skirt because I brought in so many pieces of clothing. The lady at Zarin is cute, very helpful, and professional. She spent a good 30 minutes with me in the morning, getting everything pinned up the way I wanted. She told me they would be done in 6 days, however, they were late by a day or so. The main point: I LOVED the alterations...I couldn't have asked for anything better!! I have been wearing very boxy-looking, slightly loose clothes to work for a while now, and it feels SO great to have clothes that fit the way I want!! I rarely, rarely write reviews on yelp, but I really liked this store, especially compared to a couple other ones I've been to near the Cupertino area. I will definitely go back. read more

Visit: 11/6/15 I was a braidsmaid in a wedding. My dress order along with others were delayed. We ended up receiving our dresses 1 1/2 weeks prior to the wedding and of course several of us needed our dresses altered :/ This place is located in SJ and was recommended by another braidsmaid. She opens when she wants. No fixed work timings. I drove to her 3 times at a time she told me shop opens, but it wasn't. I waited 1 hour just because I drove so far. The clothes she altered were poorly fit. She didn't follow the instructions and opened the whole top instead of just the arm hole. Now I'm having to drive everyday to just see if she is open. I brought my wedding dress in to have them send it to a wedding gown preservation service out on the east coast. The seamstress estimated 4 to 6 weeks turnaround time, but the gown came back in less than 3 weeks. Everything was done beautifully. My gown was cleaned and is now beautifully displayed and sealed in a box. For less than $200, it's a super good deal. I came here after a bad customer service experience at National Gown Cleaners in Campbell. I tried several times to contact them and they were terrible with even something as simple as answering customer calls. Finally I got fed up with the phone tagging and flakey emails. I took my dress to Zarin. Not too many local places that provide gown preservation services, so finding that Zarin can send it to a reliable preservation service was awesome. She only takes cash or checks, however. Another note -- the seamstress (who I think is also the owner) doesn't keep to her posted business hours all the time. She arrives later than the expected business opening time and sticks around after hours too. Not a bad thing, but if you're a stickler to schedules you should call ahead of time to make sure she's actually there to take care of you. read more

I ended up buying my dress really late and wasn't able to get it altered until two weeks before my wedding. I called around and found a few places that could do a rush alterations order but it would cost me a TON to get it done. At Zarin's I was able to get my dress altered including fixing the built-in corset, major hemming work, taking in on the hips and stomach, and a french bustle for only $180 including steaming! I didn't have any major details as it was a simple satin dress but I was still surprised at the speed and low cost service. The lady even stayed open late for me so I could get alterations done when I had time. I was working full time, going to school, and sick as a dog the last few weeks before my wedding and was dropping weight at a rapid rate. We ended up needing to take the dress in almost a dress size right before the wedding but she got it done! She also didn't charge me extra for the additional appointments and alterations. You can get your pants hemmed for $8 in about 3 days. The seamstress isn't very friendly but they get the job done. It's all business in this shop - go in, try on, measured, hand them your pants, get your slip and leave ...3 days later.... Cash/ finished products exchanged. BAM BAM BAM DONE. Verdict: My Hudson jeans were hemmed to exactly what she measured - I know a lot of places end up going a bit shorter. The hem isn't original hem but she matches the thread color pretty exactly so I guess that's okay. read more

I first took my dress to a lady name Si because she had really great Yelp reviews but after my 3rd (last) fitting I still wasn't satisfied with my dress. It just wasn't tight enough and she didn't want to take it in anymore. I tried to just be satisfied with it but I couldn't stop thinking about. So I decided to go here and I'm so happy I did! I was worried at first because the lady was so fast, she started just pinning everything tighter.But it immediately looked better! I came back two weeks later and it looked perfect! Located right next to Joann's fabrics, this place has a family feel to it. I took a pair of expensive jeans to them and they altered them with the original hem for 15 bucks, and on Tuesdays they have 7 dollar hemming special. The lady I dropped off my pants with was super nice and they did a great job with the hem. I'd definitely go back again. The one minus was that they close before I get off work, but managed to leave their open sign up and their door unlocked after business hours, but they still let me pick up my jeans. read more

I needed my wedding dress made for me; that 's right the whole thing, based on my design illustration. I had planned on making the dress with my mother but we felt unable to tackle it with only 4 months to go. Sima created a beautiful dress out of my 11 yards of French milled silk taffeta. We did have some conflicts about how to create the dress, and the process when we were ready to cut in to the very expensive silk. I think I was at an advantage since I am a designer and understand clothing construction, so we were able to communicate well. They did a real couture process of draping on my body and everything. It took some work to make it happen but in the end my dress was really amazing. I think many people underestimate the time and skill involved in even simple things like taking in a dress. My dress was made May of last year so maybe their quality has gone down since then? I only worked with Sima so I can't speak for the skill of the other women who work there, but Sima is amazing! read more

i had a strapless evening gown that i needed to be altered because it was too big on top and the lady was really nice and everything, said it'd be done in a week and it cost $28. i came back in a week and she had forgotten to alter it! she said it was behind some other pair of pants or something and she hadn't seen it. i had to sit there for another half an hour while she tried to make small talk while another lady was sewing it up. i was late for another appointment so i couldn't try it on to make sure it fit right. very disappointed and dissatisfied with the service. i couldn't get a discount or my money back because you have to pay when you first drop off the item of clothing. UPDATE: I went here again b/c I had a last-minute alteration I needed and I asked for a discount b/c of what happened last time. The lady got really defensive and told me to take it somewhere else but told me to go try it on. I didn't even need that much alteration on the dress, I only needed about half an inch taken in on the sides and the zipper fixed. She said she would give me a discount from the "usual" $35 to $25. This was a total rip off because last time, she altered my dress FOUR dress sizes down for only $28! So obviously she was trying to RIP ME OFF! Finally she said she'd give it to me for $20 and I agreed to that price. I gave her a week to do it, she said to come pick it up on Friday at noon. I didn't pick it up at noon on Friday b/c I forgot about it but I called at 3pm on Friday to see if it was ready. She said it wasn't ready and could I come in on Saturday instead. I found this to be completely unacceptable! She had a WEEK to do minimal alterations and fix the zipper on this dress. I know she could this is a couple minutes! So she said to come in at 6pm instead and I came in and the dress was done except she had not fixed the zipper like she said she would! Overall, I am NEVER going back to this place, the service is horrible. Also, while I was waiting in the store to pick up my dress, another lady brought in a couple of items that she wanted to have altered and was practically begging the owner of the store for a discount since she comes to her, "all the time". Under no circumstances should you EVER take your wedding dress to Zarin to get altered. Sima is unpleasant as well as a liar. I brought my brand new wedding dress there - unworn - and Sima proceeded to destroy it, getting it filthy dirty. Upon my second fitting, I was horrified to see the dirt she had created on my dress. She claimed it was no big deal and she would get rid of any dirt, as well as make buttons for the train out of extra material from my dress. When I went to pick it up at an appt time, the dress was even dirtier than it had been the previous time and she had put some random mismatched buttons on it, claiming not to remember our discussion about the buttons and lied, saying she'd ordered buttons from the dress manufacturer. Sima was extremely nasty and claimed that it was not her responsibility to clean the dress, that it had been dirty when I brought it in. NOT true. It was brand new and now I have to bring it to a cleaners to fix her carelessness. She conveniently forgets any discussion she doesn't want to remember and doesn't take responsibility for her mistakes. Save yourself a big headache and don't bring anything to Zarin for alterations!!! read more

Not too happy with the level of work. The hooks that she sewed came off in less than a month and when I went back and told them, she refused that she had even done the job. This left a poor impression and I don't think is fair to the customer. She should have kept the grace and fixed it.
