I've always liked Ann Taylor, and much of my professional wardrobe comes from this brand. I haven't shopped for new clothes in a long time, and when I do, I almost exclusively shop online, but I needed some new items in a pinch, and decided to try the factory store, as I did not want to spend a lot. As it is a factory store, I expected substantially lower prices than the regular Ann Taylor retail stores, so I was rather surprised to find that prices are still quite high here as well. Ummmm, what's the point of a factory store then? I may as well go to the regular store. The store is organized well, neat, and clean, so that's great. The antithesis of the Nordstrom Rack in the same plaza, which I also checked out. The Rack was a disaster. Completely overwhelming, with a huge stock laid out in a very poorly organized fashion. I gave up on that place after a few minutes. But back to Ann Taylor. I found a pair of trousers I liked, and ended up purchasing, but nothing else. There was nothing appealing whatsoever amongst the tops. Unflattering, baggy styles that instantly add 20lbs, way too many ugly, distracting patterns, etc. Who is designing these clothes, seriously? Can I have their job? I'm no expert, but I'm sure I could do better than this. My partner also commented that the designs were fugly, adding "and I'm a dude, I don't know anything about fashion." This is the second time I have been told mis-information regarding return policies. The first time, I was told I could only get store credit for something I paid for using my Ann Taylor Mastercard. I asked her to show me that policy. Instead she gave me the credit to my card. This time I used rewards plus my credit card to buy a pair of jeans, but decided I did not like them and would exchange for something else. I returned the jeans, but she told me the rewards were "one-time use" and I could not apply that to my current purchase. I asked to see that policy and she said "that's the policy". To start with I'm a guy. So why am a reviewing a clothing store for the ladies. Well I'll tell you why and it's not particularly good. Back in the day when I met my now partner I was always impressed with how well she dressed in a work enviornment in a sea of women wearing pajamas and extra small tights in a not so extra small body. One of the brands she wore was Ann Taylor. I had never heard of it before, like I said I'm a guy. Let alone been in a store. I was aware of Eddie Bauer, Cabela's, and the local ranch/feed store. So recently I went with my partner to buy some new work clothes for her. As I'm walking around with her I think I commented as to where the nice clothes were because all I saw were baggy clown clothes. Seriously, who wears this stuff. Outrageous colors and style. Once again I'm a guy and have no fashion sense whatever but I do know what looks nice and what doesn't. I have seen peoples pets dress nicer than most of the stuff I saw here. Don't shop here, the people who work here engage in shady business practices and extremely rude. A woman who claimed to be a MANAGER tried to trick me by telling me I couldn't return an Ann Taylor factory item purchased at a different Ann Taylor factory location even though their policy states that Ann Taylor factory items could be returned to ANY Ann Taylor factory store. Told me a new item I was returning was used because it had "stains" on it, which were clearly dust. I wiped the dust away and the manager told me I "got rid of the stain" which couldn't happen because it wasn't a stain in the first place. And wouldn't accept a return of a new item that had some dust on it which were easily wiped away. It baffles me that a manager doesn't even know their own store policy and represents Ann Taylor in misleading customers? read more

I've been a loyal Ann Taylor shopper for years, especially as someone who relies on their petite sizing. But after my recent experience, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I tried to return a cardigan that split at the seam after just four uses -- clearly a quality issue. Instead of acknowledging the problem or even offering a simple apology, the staff dismissed me outright. I was told, flatly, "Nope. We have a no return policy." No empathy, no effort to make it right -- just a cold refusal. It wasn't about the money -- it was about principle. I was on pace to spend a couple thousand dollars at Ann Taylor this year, but now I'll be shopping at other petite-friendly retailers who actually stand behind their products and treat customers with respect. If you value quality and customer care, I'd recommend looking beyond Ann Taylor. Their clothes may be polished, but their service certainly isn't. read more

Horrible customer service! Also the manager and employee clearly have animosity toward both women (ALL women) and people of color despite being both women and of color themselves! Their system has been down since Christmas Eve and I wanted to exchange a dress that was a Christmas present. The customer service at the counter was sweet on the day after Christmas. I was advised to comeback the next day , the next counter person was rude and insinuated the item I was exchanging she needed proof I purchased the item.... It was a gift I only wanted to exchange for different size... so now I will return everything I bought and go to Banana Republic where they are helpful with exchanges .... The customer service is HORRIBLE!!! I made a purchase at the Ann Taylor Outlet in Livermore, CA. I went to the San Leandro store to return three items. I had my receipt and the tags were still on the items. The lady at the register held up the items and said "I can't return these." I asked "why? I have my receipt, the tags are on and only purchased two weeks ago" she replied "they smell horrible" I was shocked because I kept them in the bag that they gave me. I smelt the items and they did not smell. I asked to speak with a manager. The lady left to the back while I stood there with my items and returns shortly and says, " my manager says we can't take them cause they smell." I said "can I speak with your manager? How does she know they smell if she hasn't even seen the items?" She said, " we can't take this go back to Livermore and they will return it for you." I said," if they smell that bad which they don't why will Livermore take them and you can't?" At that point the manager came out loonies as if she was leaving for the day. I said, " are you the manager?" She said "yes" I replied "why can't I return you haven't even seen the product or the condition?" She said, "it smells bad our policy is here on the sign". Tired of arguing I asked " can I please have a corporate number and both of your names" they both refused to give me their names and said " you can find phone numbers on the internet" I said well "if you can provide me your names I will take your picture so I can send it to corporate" the manger responded " I'll call the police if you take our picture and have you arrested". This store is immaculate! Even the sale section is organized by color. Store is clean and not a single item out of place. Immediately, we and all the other customers in the store were greeted by Angela. She provided a variety of recommendations. Assisted with finding types of styles and sizes. She even walked my husband around the store showing him different styles for me. He picked a work sweater. Angela even knew the specific sweater - last one, fit smaller lol. Luckily for me, we listened to her and tried the small, which I am normally xsmall. It was a perfect fit and we ultimately purchase the sweater. She knew the store inside and out and she was so helpful and professional. She assisted with checking us out and I missed the survey timeframe, by the time I went it, the survey was closed, therefore, here I am! Ann Taylor clothes are high quality and long term pieces for the collection. From this one experience, I'm converted to Ann Taylor and the loft. Thank you Angela!! The employees and merchandise are really super great here!!!!! From the moment I called them I knew they would be able to help me find smart looking clothes for my upcoming interviews. The representative was so friendly on the phone. I called to verify they have clothes for interviews. And I asked if their selection was as big as the Livermore outlet. (It's bigger.) So I made a trip down to check it out. Erica asked me if I needed help. I showed her my prospective employers Insta account. She noted that they didn't have any items with patterns and that I picked out something that did. What a good eye. When she went on break, Nancy took over. She brought me so many great options! She would come back and check to see how they looked. I really appreciate her viewpoint and her honesty. She ended up dressing me head to toe and... she found me two hot interviewing outfits!!! I love that she kept saying I shouldn't look like another suit walking in for an interview. She found outfits that were soooo fabulous!!! I won't be surprised if I get hired just from my apparel. Haha It is sad to read the three star reviews here because they don't pertain to the selection of items but rather experiences of refunds. If you haven't shopped here yet, don't pay attention to the bad reviews. You will be so happy with their merchandise and service. Oh and with the prices too! I can't believe I walked away with a suit jacket under $50! And one of the shirts was $11. Incredible prices as well as selection and service!!! read more

I find the clothes here aren't carefully made - the linings don't cover the entire garment and they don't hang nicely. And they have a restrictive return policy - you need to have the paper receipt and they only do return within 30 days. read more

The factory stores are always different than the actual Ann Taylor's I see in the malls. Things seem more "hip" here. I always find something great here and the deals aren't bad. Customer service is good as well. I recommend checking this place out if you need a new business casual wardrobe. I get a lot of my blouses/tops for my office job here. read more

The customer service at the Livermore Ann Taylor is MUCH better. Here is the reason why: I had purchased two collared, long sleeve blouses from Ann Taylor's online website. I had the receipt. I purchased both blouses in a regular size small. I was confident that these blouses would fit me. I wore the red blouse and realized that the sleeves were too long. I had just cut the tag :/ before wearing it. My mistake. I didn't even bother trying the other one on because I knew the sleeves would be too long. First, I drove from Newark to San Leandro to the Ann Factory Outlet (Marina). They allowed me to exchange the green blouse which still had the tags for a petite XS. They did not accept the red blouse because I had cut the tag and tried it on. She explained to me that I should not cut the tags next time. That was ok..until the lady proceeded to tell me that the blouse "smelled" (she said this after consulting with one of the younger employees) and that clients would not wear it because it smelled. After leaving the San Leandro store, I called the Livermore Ann Taylor store. Victoria picked up the phone. I explained to her that I had purchased blouses from the online website and the sleeves were too long. I wanted to exchange it for a petite size BUT I had already cut the tags and tried the shirt on. Victoria from the Livermore Ann Taylor replied saying that there were no problems and they would accept the blouse for a return or exchange even without the tag. I thanked her and said that I really appreciated it. Even though it was out of my way (I live in Union City) I drove to the Livermore Ann Taylor. Upon arriving, Banpreet helped me exchange the red blouse with no tags for a petite XS. Victoria had told her about my situation. I even told her how the San Leandro location would not accept it for an exchange without the tag AND that they said the blouse smelled. She smelled the shirt and said "No, this does not smell." I love Ann Taylor's clothing because I am petite. However, the customer service varies depending upon the location. I would highly recommend the Ann Taylor in Livermore over this location in San Leandro. This was not my purchase at the San Leandro location. I have purchased 4 other items from this San Leandro location but because my experience was a lot better with the Livermore location I would rather go there. read more

Costumer service is bad, they're rude and of course they seem to act based on your looks. I am always running around and most of the times in comfy clothes and shoes. I still go on my business but a noticed many times that they barely say "hello" and never ask if I need help. But comes in a lady in pants and heals and wow the difference in attitude is very noticeable. Anyways, I am most like closing down my line credit and stop buying Ann Taylor, I do like the clothing but as a company I am very dissatisfied and disappointed. I bought this pants that were defective (stitching) but did not notice after a few times I wore. I email them, twice, no response. I called, they say call the store. I did and they said they are not responsible and can't do anything if item has no tags and such. I do understand that, but there's times when people genuinely don't flip clothes inside out and check carefully for all stitching and details. COME ON! I did not asked for money back, just a replacement, and it was the very first time. Now I'm doing all my shopping at EXPRESS (they did replace a defective item, same story.) Very disappointing experience. I hardly came in to this store. It just so happened that I had to return online purchase today. The story started with the shorter curly hair Vietnamese looking lady complained about the reason for my visit- why is it all returns today, starting from this morning? Then she asked me: have you done your homework? I surely did not do my homework- not knowing how difficult she made this return transaction to become. A few tactics that she used- pointers for all of your future transactions: 1. She had to return one item at a time, meaning making each return a transaction itself. It took me almost ONE hour to return 7 items; 2. In the midst of the transaction, she said her machine didn't work. She had me move to another registrar for her colleague to finish up. While her colleague was helping me, she was taking on the next customer - I thought her registrar was not working? 3. In the event of no receipt, she requested the exact same credit card that I used to issue the return. When I inserted my credit card, it popped up as the date of purchase. Yet she claimed that she could not find the particular transaction. 4. Regardless how difficult she has made this return experience to be, she was VERY diligent in selling the Ann Taylor credit card. What a self-fish **. I am grateful that her teammate ( the lady with the yellow scarf) was trying to help out as much as she could. Ann Taylor has been trying to position itself as top notch, graceful and professional. This lady's behavior is way off- even cashiers at Walmart behave better than this. read more

About 5 years ago my girlfriend used to live in Hayward and we used to come to this shopping center. This is when the Ann Taylor was a "REAL" outlet and not just a Factory store. We used to find SO many great deals, items that came from the stores and not lower grade items that are made for the Factory stores. Some of my best finds were a black cocktail dress that was regularly $220 and I bought for $15. wool blend work trousers for $20, tops for $10, etc etc.. The store now is nice, organized with plenty of sizes but if you are looking for a real outlet feel with outlet prices head over to Talbots across the street ,This is the only Talbots outlet in California and still has some great deals straight from their stores. read more

I love coming here! I work nearby and sometimes pop in here (and Nordstrom Rack) on my way home. I don't always end up buying something, but when I do, it's generally because I've scored a really good deal! They have a great selection of XS and XXS sizes, usually marked down even more because of clearance. Even their clothes not on clearance generally has a good sale, and I've never had an issue finding the right size. It's a clean and tidy store. Friendly service. Can't ask for more!! read more

I've been shopping at Ann Taylor for about six years and I spend at least a couple hundred dollars here every month or so. I have a system where I come through, grab a ton of stuff and then return whatever doesn't fit me. This month was weird, and I didn't make it back with my returns within the month as I usually do, so I had the pleasure of learning about their ABSURD return policy for the first time. Basically, even if you have an Ann Taylor card and they can look up your purchase, if you don't make it back within 30 days you're sh*t out of luck -- no refund. If you return an item anytime after 30 days, they give you store credit for the amount said item is currently worth. Which is a huge and unacceptable rip off; I'd rather find somebody who the clothing fits than just throw $ in the trash like that. Beyond my natural outrage at this highly questionable return policy, I was stunned by the attitude in which it was delivered. After I was already treated very rudely by an associate, the store's "co-manager", Erica, was equally unsympathetic and practically threw my returns back at me. Even if you work for a company with a terrible policy, you'd do better apologizing to your customer for the inconvenience, not to mention for the sass of your associate. Instead, Erica made matters worse -- terrible behavior for a co-manager. During my time in line, I observed Erica interacting with other folks and it seems like she has an attitude problem all around. The store has a nice collection of items (regular and petite), however the service is very mixed. The salesperson I spoke to (young kid) was very unhelpful although the guy at the register was great. Her name is Lucy. I am dead cereal here people, I think she may have just helped me transition through a liminal space in my life. She held my hand and helped me step through a portal into a strange and mysterious land of which I've held fear and reservations for years. The land of grown up clothes. For grown ups. Apparently I'm one of these, so I need to start looking the part. Attempt #1, me and my mother in the dressing room with 6 items. I am a frumpy man with a baggy crotch and quickly frizzing hair. Walking around the store empty handed, not wanting to dig around in clearance since I'm not convinced I can actually pull any of this off, I'm now snapping at my mother like I've got low blood sugar. Or a running cramp. Planning imminent escape. Attempt #2, another 6 items. Some things looked a bit better, but I'm underwhelmed at how much I look like a big fat faker, that I cannot possibly wear suits, that I should probably only work places where I can wear a college hoody or have spaghetti sauce spilled on me. But this time when I try to leave the fitting room empty handed, someone asks if I'd like help. I'm fully embarrassed that I indeed need help with this totally normal task, but I say yes. Help is going to mean, oh what are you looking for, oh what's your size, no we don't have a suit that is going to feel like your jammy pants.....and then exit stage left. I'm going to feel like a dumbass. But this is when Lucy saves my butt. She literally whipped me around the store like a super good friend would, like the whole store was her closet and she was just going to lend me some stuff she thought might look good on me. No big deal. She explained the differences between petite and regular, and how I should adjust my sizing to wear both; she explained the letters with the sizes that determine the type of fit a piece will give you; and she hustled probably 30 items in and out of the dressing room for me to try and retry, in different colors and from clearance. Whew. I left with a fantastic suit and 2 shirts none of which I would have ever picked up on my own, for less than 200 bucks. Lucy= the shit. I am so glad. I can walk into my first day of work wearing a suit and looking awesome. Like me, just in a suit. Magic. This store has such frickin deals and I could not believe the customer service. I weighed about 200lbs after Baby H. was born, and now I weigh 160lbs, so lately I've been swimming around in my clothes and putting off buying new ones. Being of a certain religious/ethnic persuasion, I want good quality clothing, but I don't want to pay very much for it. Enter Ann Taylor Outlet! I got four T-shirts, two pairs of pants, a long chunky knit sweater, a camisole, and a sweater hoodie for just under $200. Ann Taylor stuff is great quality, and the outlet is amazing. All the other reviewers are right when they say it doesn't feel like an outlet. This one has current styles and season appropriate stuff, whereas other outlets are always a season behind. The pants are great - they have a few different fits for different body types. I have a hard time finding pants that don't gape in the back and show my butt crack, and Ann Taylor's don't. I was an Ann Taylor girl for 5 years. Sales Associate at AT LOft and Ann Taylor. I LOVE Ann Taylor. I can still look at someone's outfit and know when they bought it at Ann Taylor down to the month in the season (yes, I've freaked out numerous friends by saying: Ann Taylor, Fall 2004, October) That said - I HATE going into this place. 3 stars because I know the clothes fit and I can walk in and get a pair of $12 black pants for work. This store has become my new favorite in the Marina plaza. Passing by in previous years, I easily dismissed this store because the clothes seemed more geared towards office workers and moms. Okay, I know when to admit when I'm wrong. There is a good amount of more formal work attire. There's also some leisure wear, ie long drapey cardigans, lounge wear, etc. If you want good deals on quality wardrobe items, go here (even a big petite section) and don't waste your time at Marshalls. The first thing I lasered in on the huge display of accessories -- gorgeous statement pieces to add to your outfit! I must've spent 15 minutes there, trying on sparkly bangles and drapey necklaces. To buy or not to buy. They were all 50% off. Then I went around the entire store, saving the clearance section for last. Next time, I really ought to save time and just steer towards the good stuff first! On the few occasions I've shopped here, I found some nice items in the clearance section (additional 30% off lowest price on tag) -- some nice blouses and other tops. Today, I found this adorable light sweater with lace insets for $14.99 (regularly-priced at $69) and a long-sleeved knit with flowy layers for $20 (regularly-priced at $59). These are discount store type prices. For comparison sake, I've walked out of Marshalls without trying a damn thing on. Their clothing didn't appeal to me. Word of warning: There's this guy who works there that is very pushy in hawking their store card. The other girls are very friendly and helpful. read more

When I lived in San Leandro, I visited the Ann Taylor outlet with more regularity than I did a grocery store. $10 shoes that went for $70 at the real Ann Taylor and $5 blouses and sweaters---I could go without food. The quality was pretty good, very few damaged items and didn't smell like someone stank the hell out of the clothing then brought it back. After all, I imagine an $85 skirt couldn't have seen much action at the store. read more

This did not feel at all like an outlet store. It was tidy, well-stocked, well-organized, and the attentive (but not too much so) staff made it feel much more like a nice department store. Even at outlet prices, Ann T is usually out of my price range, but when they have the 40% off the store sale, there are definite bargains to be found. I got a cashmere sweater for $35! read more

For an outlet store the prices aren't impressive but when they have the 50% off the outlet price that is when it is worth it. There is a lot to choose from and all sizes available from the stick girls at size 00 to the ones with some junk in the truck size 20. Being short or to be "PC" I should say petite they have my size which is hard for me to find in stores. The staff is all very nice. Tiffany was such a help while I was in the dressing room. And the female helping me at the register was friendly. The store is very clean, everything is in the correct order and on a hanger or nicely folded. My OCD didn't set in while shopping. If you are looking for casual or business attire stop in and see what they have. Even though parking is sometimes difficult it is worth a visit. read more

It's ok, the deals aren't amazing and I have to really search to find anything that I like. I've gone a few times and have yet to buy anything. There's a petite section around the corner, past the shoes, so don't forget to browse that section if you are 5'4" or under. I'll keep looking, maybe I'll buy something someday. read more

Six months ago I would have given this place 5 stars. It had the best prices anywhere on all you could ever want for work and dress-up, and a huge selection. The store was always clean, the salespeople nice, they left you alone, and the dressing rooms were clean too - not like most places where you leave feeling dirty. Now, I don't know if it's the remodel of all Ann Taylors, but this place isn't exactly "outlet" anymore. The prices are regular Ann Taylor prices, $80 for a pair of pants, instead of the $30 you could find before. I don't come to the outlet for a $200 dress. I come to the outlet for a $20 skirt. Now, they do still have a sale section, but instead of being half the store, they are some sad little racks in the back. I'm sad my favorite place in the world (maybe, maybe not) has turned into a regular old expensive store, but I am still in love with Ann and will be back. Just not on such a regular basis. read more

They have 40% off bargains throughout the whole store and I found a pair of black slacks for an interview for less than $50 here. They have a section strictly for petite sizes! I love the customer service here. Immediately I was approached by a gal who asked if I wanted a room to change in and she took the clothes off my arm and asked for my name.
