I felt put in a difficult position when I was asked for money by members of management. As a new employee, I did not feel comfortable refusing the request because of the power imbalance and my desire to make a good impression. It created an uncomfortable situation that I believe should never be placed on a new hire.I had a very disappointing experience as a new employee at Lane Bryant in Normal, IL. From the beginning, I did not feel supported or welcomed. One of my biggest concerns was that managers asked new employees for money, which I found inappropriate and unprofessional. As a new employee, I also heard negative comments being made by people in management and others above me. The work environment was filled with back-and-forth disagreements and a lack of professionalism and respect between key holders, assistant managers, and store managers. Instead of working together as a team, there seemed to be ongoing conflict that created an uncomfortable atmosphere for employees. In addition, I arrived on time for my scheduled shifts but was still expected to wait for the store to be opened, even though I had done my part by arriving on time. I was also not given direct contact information for management or consistent follow-up. When I requested a manager's direct contact information or asked for additional support, my concerns were dismissed rather than addressed. As a plus-size person myself, I know there are limited places to shop for clothing in my size. That makes this experience even more disappointing. Because of how I was treated as an employee, Lane Bryant has lost my future business. I also cannot recommend this store to others based on my experience. New employees deserve proper training, respectful communication, and support from management. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. We were prepping for a trip of 3 weeks and needed summer clothes and some dressy outfits. The store near us had a very limited selection and weren't helpful. We drove 45 minutes to this store. We arrived in the heat of the day but the store was nice and cool. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. My wife tried on numerous outfits, but the staff assisted in finding additional things for her to try on. My wife went from having no outfits for the trip to a complete wardrobe. We will be returning for the fall releases. read more

I love Lane Bryant but hate this location. Usually when I shop at Lane Bryant stores the employees are so kind , attentive and helpful . I walked in and no one acknowledged me or helped me find a bra and when I did manage to get someone's attention the lady was very standoffish and impersonal. I double dog dare you to find a better Lane Bryant in the Bay Area. I've been to every local location, including those that have disappeared over the years, so I can honestly attest to how they measure up. Also, I intentionally waited before posting my collective experience because my grievances with the other local places were honestly impacting my ability to fully appreciate (without going over the top) the actual difference in this store & their personnel. First, the store is always tidy, and it's pretty big so there's generally plenty of stock (the cacique collection could be stocked better). Second, there's a huge clearance section similar to the olden days at Hilltop that includes underwear bins near the dressing rooms. Third, most of the associates are extremely considerate and helpful. Often, I have to order merchandise that's sold out in my size or preferred color, no matter, the search and order(s) happens just as thoughtfully as the in-house purchases. Last, even though the "new" computer/register system is all too often only working at half mast, the staff keeps a smile and compensates by working things out in their customers' (mine too) favor. Fingers crossed that they keep up the tremendous service. They should train other LB stores. read more

I love Lane Bryant. They offer stylish clothes in larger sizes, and bras and panties that fit and feel great. I don't buy bras anywhere else, since other places either don't have my size or have my size but the bra is stinking ugly and makes me feel like I'm my grandma (she used to call plus size stores "the fat store".) Big girls deserve to feel pretty, too! I hate the tent-like clothes and nasty patterns that department stores often put out. Where Lane Bryant and I part ways is the price for their clothes that fit so well and make me feel so great. I never ever pay full price for anything there (save a bra I bought one time when I was desperate. So maybe not never ever). I won't even consider buying a piece of clothing there unless it's on sale or clearance. I agree that the pricing on most of their clothes is absurd, but seeing as they are the most stylish mid-priced clothier for large women (better than Avenue in both style and quality most of the time) I suppose they can charge what they like and get away with it. Their dressing rooms are very large and have great mirrors. The salespeople are friendly and helpful. One issue is that it often takes a very long time to cash out, as the cashiers take their sweet time and/or they have the slowest computers in the world. Heaven forbid there's a line, because you could be waiting to check out longer than it took you to shop in the first place. read more

Lane Bryant stocks clothes up to size 26W. My sister is a big girl and it's difficult to find her size at most stores, so I've often had to resort to buying her Christmas presents at Lane Bryant. Every time, without fail, I'm appalled at the poor quality and the exorbitant prices for what they carry. If that weren't bad enough, I'm convinced that their buyers hate women and go out of their way to stock ridiculous styles that make women look bigger. This store gets one star for existing at all, 'cause when you need these sizes it's better than nothing. But just barely! read more

Prior to going to the store, I had checked out their website. Specifically, I needed to shop for intimate apparel. So I ask for assistance, and somebody measures me and says I'm actually a size smaller than I really am (mind you, I had been measured at the Southland store when it existed last year). I'm like okay.....so I go to try on a few bra's and lo and behold, they don't fit, too small. I get someone else to help me, and she claims, 'Oh we don't have them in that size." (My actual correct size) Another associate nearby says, "Yes we do." Turns out they do, but their in-store selection is quite limited. Meanwhile, time goes by, I'm getting impatient, and I'm opting for just shopping online. And that's exactly what I'll do. One star for the staff's willingness to help, and one star for the cute selections that were in the store....but not in my size, unfortunately. read more

This location is nicer than a lot of others, the salespeople are super helpful as usual, and they have REALLY nice dressing rooms. I still wish they'd drop down just one size...but I'll forgive them. Also, if you're not boobilicious, don't expect to find tops here. A lot of the other women in there were kinda glaring at me (though not as much as they were glaring at the really skinny girl). I guess "die skinny bitch" vibes are nicer than the "who does she think she's kidding" vibes I get at the places where I really want to shop. This being in between crapola really stinks! Last night I was in need of some retail therapy and finally had some money to spend. I wasn't even thinking about the fact that I needed a bra (I mean duh, I hadn't bought a new one in three years, and the two beaten up pieces I'd been wearing were about to give up the ghost) until Maureen greeted me and said to let her know if I needed any help with anything, including bra sizing. She was so sweet and helpful, not to mention she is the BOOB WHISPERER. I was not only gobsmacked to find out that I am now a 42 DDD (last measured at a 40D), but I have a lovely Balconette bra that is holding the girls right where they need to be. I'm only going to review this location, not the whole company (I have serious issues with their styles and cuts and quality and price). Regardless, this location is a good one! The staff are friendly and helpful, there's a waiting area for the dressing rooms, and they often have good things on clearance. If you wear a size 14 to 30 in Fremont, your choices are VERY limited, so it's almost worth it to stop by weekly to check clearance. I pretty much only buy from those racks, and the salespeople are totally OK with that. Being a grad student when I first started shopping here and a teacher now, my budget is very small, so I often have to ask "Is this one on sale?" and other vaguely embarrassing things. The clerks at this LB have always been super friendly about my miserliness, even empathetic. Being large and poor is not the most esteem-boosting situation for a woman, so I really appreciate their friendliness. NB: This location has an attached Cacique lingerie store, and is also conveniently located between a Ross and a Marshall's if you want to first check the possible bargains there. This store also carries the new sizing in both jeans and Houston slacks, so if you haven't fit their jeans or dress slacks well in the past, try the new line. They also have some of LB's new, more casual styles aimed at teens-20somethings. They've started carrying party dresses over the last few years, which is good because the Newpark Macy's has NO PLUS SIZES in their "social dresses" department, and no social dresses in their plus sizes department! read more

Yes they are a bit more than it should cost but the styles are modern and cut properly and by that I mean not cut like an effing tent. I don't know about you but if the stuff is cut too loose you actually end up looking fatter not slimmer. If you don't understand this see TLC's What Not to Wear. In fact I was there last night, and the one of the sales girls actually commented on how much my daughter has grown since last time she saw her -now THAT'S how you get repeat customers, paying attention to the ones you have now! I'm disappointed AGAIN.... I have been shopping at this location for a few years not because of the service but because of the sizes.... I'm a big girl and it's not easy finding quality clothing in my size. Everytime I walk in to this location I walk around the store for about 10- 15 min before I'm even said hi to. Then when I need assistance from someone, these girls do not want to help me. I'm tossed in a dressing room and not even a word is spoken while I'm left to try on my selection. I'm on ther verge of tears- shouldn't my shopping experience be fun? Do these girls have goals they want to meet? Where is the manager and she realize her team talks about her negatively while customers are shopping??? I'm so sad. Yet I purchase my items here because I don't have another option. The clerk was helpful in getting the socks for me that was up high since I'm disabled. After I tried them on and wanted more though, she was busy with another customer (which is fine and expected). However, that other customer now had two clerks assessing how great the outfit was on her and telling her all about it while I waited for help. I eventually just went and was able to stretch to get the socks myself. Then at the cash register as another person was about to ring me up, the original clerk kind of jumped in and took over. I wonder if they work on commission and she considered me her customer since she was the first one to help me. However, she sure didn't help me again. read more

Love Lane Bryant, but during my last visit I purchased some jewelry (which is really nice) but decided to exchange for some other jewelry that the sales rep pulled out. When I went to the counter the Store Manager said oh no I can't help you return anything (well first I thought she was just kidding) until she walked away and didn't return! I wasn't returning I was exchanging, which she would have known if she had helped me! Oh well, the rest of the sales staff is helpful and of course I'll go back. Okay, let me start with saying that I used to be a huge Lane Bryant fan! I used to shop there on a monthly basis, this was back in 2002, and prices had started going up then, and being a college student living on my own, I just couldn't afford the clothes any longer!! Well I am still a college student, but now I have a credit card ( this could be bad!), and after just recently moving to Fremont (almost a year ago), I kept noticing Lane Bryant at the hub shopping center and thought how random, so decided to go and see if the selection and to see if prices were any better. I walked into the store and almost fainted! The clothes were 3x cuter than they used to be, still a little pricey, but they had a huge $9.99 sale going on. Not to mention that Cacique was having a bra sale too! I still ended up spending $200, because I had to buy a strapless bra that was $42, and there was a really cute shirt that wasn't on sale either, oh well I still managed to find a few $9.99 shirts and 2 pairs of pants that were on sale. Now for customer service, I had a few different associates helping me, and since the sizing for jeans is a little different now, I definitely needed all the help I could get. One of the women measured me just below my boobs (upper abdominal area), and didn't take into consideration the large behind that I have, and gave me 3 pairs of jeans that didn't fit. (She got the body type right, which was red, but the size was wrong). She was nice and I can't be upset at her for not being able to guesstimate my size. One thing I used to love about Lane Bryant is that if I had a stack of clothing in my hands and was walking around browsing, an associate would immediately ask if I wanted to start a dressing room. This was not the case yesterday, I dropped my stack of clothes twice before finally asking an associate myself, to start me a dressing room. This is why I am taking off one star. Otherwise everyone was really nice, very helpful, and the store had a great selection of fasionable plus size clothes, much nicer location and set up than any of the other stores in the South Bay, East Bay and Pennisula. I have been a Lane Bryant shopper for 30 years. The quality and styling has gone down but because of my size I still go there from time to time. Last night I went to return a few blouses and had forgotten my coupons I intended to use if I saw something to buy. I was at the cashier after closing time and I still got professional help in a transaction that required the manager to do "computer/cashier wizardry" because she told me I could use my phone to receive an email discount and because of my last minute change of mind--adding purchases and needing to order soemthing. Of course they were tired but the manager and sales staff were courteous and professional. All my experiences at this store have been pleasant. Great parking, no mall madness and great staff who are working and there to serve. I live in SJ and travel to Fremont rather than fight Valley Fair on a Friday night! read more

I was basically ignored and told by one of the employees that if you're under 40 band size (bars)then might as well shop online. I've been wanting to write this review for over a year now and never had time, but now I do. I never shop at Lane Bryant, however, since I do work at the Fremont Hub, I saw that we had one here. Last year, an hour before I was doing a photo shoot for SHAPE magazine (I was in the Nov. 2010 issue), I was nervous and wanted to make sure that everything looked "smooth" in the photos. So, I decided to go to LB and see if they had Spanx. Boy, did they! I believe the girl who helped me was Rachel? I'm not sure...Her name started with an R though. She was so nice and showed me the different Spanx that the store offered. She took her time out and together, we picked out the perfect one for my photo shoot. I have shopped a lot of Lane Bryant's for many years, but The Fremont Lane Bryant has the best staff and friendly service out of all. They also carry the best selection than anyone else in the bay area. The staff is well trained and always willing to help you put a new look together. I always spend about $100 more than I thought I would. It is worth the drive to go the the Fremont Hub no matter where you live in the bay. I'm not sure what Rox M is talking about I have gotten 3 bra fits from the staff and they have all been correct even after changing weights. Since you wrote it in Dec maybe you got a temp associate. The girls here are always so friendly and willing to help. I can majority of the time find what I am looking for and if I can't find what I need the staff goes out of their way to find what I need. As far as your issue anon I have had other girls accidentally walk in on people in the dressing room and its not that the girls don't know but also that the other guests in the store don't respond when the girls knock...I have worked with Melissa several times and she is very pleasant and went great lengths to find me outfits for my summer vacation. read more

5 stars just isn't enough. this place makes you feel like a movie star. they take your clothing for you and set you up in a room. They will run and get you sizes so you dont have to get re-dressed. Sometimes the atmosphere is party like, not unprofessional, oh no, the women there are to wonderful. The music, all of the women talking, it is like it used to be, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A HOMEY FEEL. Woooow, I'm surprised this place has any good reviews because I hated this location. Being plus sized it's always hard to find clothes in general, so I really tried to like this store because it's sooo close to me... But I just can't. Clothes were overpriced and not even that cute.. Some stuff is nice, I've bought some pretty cute things.. But nothing unique (cardigans, halter tops). Could've probably found similar pieces in the Forever 21 plus size section, or shoot! Even Torrid for cheaper. And you know Torrid be expensive most of the pieces at this location had me looking looking like I was wearing my grandma's old kitchen curtains. Not sexy.. And the customer service is the worst. Made me feel like it was such a chore for them when I asked them to open a fitting room for me.. These girls cannot multitask.. They'll see that you need help and will go on doing what they're doing, leaving you hanging... For example I wanted to see a shirt on the mannequin because the smallest size on the rack was a little too big. So I asked a woman working there and she said she'd get someone to help me.. So I go by the mannequin, and wait, and wait, and wait... I'm in line of sight from the cash out area so I can see both sales associates clearly and they completely ignore my existence. Even looking me dead in the eye.. Flat out ignoring me . So I took it upon myself to grab the shirt myself.. Which wasn't easy by the way, (had the mannequin's arms falling off) and I feel like I shouldn't even have to do that. What the hell are these lazy women getting payed for.. I've never been treated this poorly at any establishment. Feeling judged in a place, I personally feel I should feel accepted. And the shirt was cute, but not 80+ dollars cute. Too damn expensive. And I found a shirt very similar at Alice Plus in the Newpark Mall for waaaayyyy cheaper! This place is a disgrace. I felt like going back there and expressing my anger.. But it's all good.
