If I could give this salon zero stars or negative stars, I would. I'm writing this review with deep frustration and anger after what was honestly one of the most disappointing and deceptive salon experiences I've ever had. Before coming in, I called the salon specifically to ask if they offered Japanese hair straightening. I was told yes, and based on that confirmation, I came in. When I arrived, I informed the staff that I was the one who had just called about Japanese hair straightening and was told to come in. They sat me down, evaluated my hair, and told me it would be $350. I explicitly confirmed--again--that this would be for Japanese hair straightening, and asked if it could be done that day. They said yes, so I agreed to the price and the service. But halfway through the process, I noticed something wasn't right. They were clearly not doing Japanese straightening. When I asked what they were doing, I was told they were "sealing the keratin into my hair"--which is not part of the Japanese hair straightening process. I repeatedly asked if this was keratin treatment or Japanese straightening, and was only met with vague reassurances like, "Don't worry, we're doing what you asked." At the end, I was visibly upset and told them this was not the service I asked for or agreed to. At that point, they handed me the phone to speak with the owner, who tried to convince me that Japanese hair straightening is "only done on Asian hair." Had I been told that upfront, I obviously never would have come in or agreed to the service. She then claimed they used a "new version" of Japanese hair straightening, which apparently didn't require a neutralizer--something I know from experience is completely false. I didn't want to argue, I just wanted to leave. But before I could finish paying, they handed me the phone again, and the owner completely changed her story. This time, she said I had never asked for Japanese straightening--only that I wanted my hair "straightened." She even claimed the salon would have preferred to upsell me the Japanese treatment if I had been clearer. That's outrageous, because not only did I clearly ask for Japanese hair straightening multiple times, but just a few moments earlier, she was trying to convince me that was what I received! It's honestly insulting to be lied to and gaslit like that. I've never experienced anything like it--agreeing to a specific service, getting something completely different, and then having the owner twist the facts to blame me. To top it off, she told me I'd love the keratin treatment and would want to come back. After this experience? Absolutely not. This salon has lost all credibility with me, and I strongly urge others to think twice before trusting what they say on the phone or in person. There is one lady I really like here, who's done my pedicure twice. She's very diligent and careful. Her work lasts 2 months minimum. Very satisfied. This last time I went, I got my manicure done as well and I wasn't as satisfied with the person who did it. I wanted a color and he argued that it wouldn't look good on me. I wanted shaping, and he said everyone knows you shape after color (really? Not in the last decade I've been getting gel nails?). He wouldn't let me use my phone at all so he could do it quicker. Several times I had to ask him to fix the shape or point out that the edges are not smooth. In the end I gave up a little because it didn't seem like he could make it more smooth at all. I don't know if it's due to a lack of skill or patience or interest, but he promised me it will last 2 weeks and it's lasted less than 1 weeks. Probably the worst gel manicure I've ever had in the last decade. But, I'm not giving it a 1 star because I was satisfied with my gel pedicure and I probably wouldn't mind going back for just that with my favorite tech. I have been going to Anna's for a couple years now and the service is very hit or miss I think I'm very comfortable now doing a final review after about 2 1/2 to 3 years of going there I decided to go to Anna's for my nails because they were the most available before my wedding I got my nails done on Sunday and one of my nails already broke off on Tuesday and I can tell the other nails are starting to be a little weak to it took me nearly 2 hours to get my nails done acrylic which makes no sense when I had an appointment at 2 PM with my friend who was immediately service but not the actual bride. I paid $75 for nails that I was happy about but should have just went to someplace local around me instead of traveling far to Arlington. I cannot get them redone in time for my wedding nor do I want to spend 2 hours of day before my out of state wedding to get my nails done in the way they should have done. This is not the first time this has happened but I try really hard to do the benefit of the doubt but after this, this is the last time I will go there unfortunately. Also I want to say that I have gotten the eyebrow threading where Ana has told me that she doesn't like to do the eyebrow threading and would rather wax even against my wishes of wanting to do eyebrow threading because I like it better than being waxed and she also tried to convince me to get eyelash extensions and I did but her employee Kaytie did mine and I think it was the first time she was practicing on someone that was a customer it was the most painful eyelash extension I have ever had and by the time we were done my eyes were red and I was crying and just wanted to leave it was past closing time because she took so long. read more

Absolute worst! I went here to redeem a gifted Groupon for a manicure, but didn't have time for the pedicure - little did I know I would be here for almost 2 hours. My experience was worse than getting a root canal with no sedatives. First, nobody spoke English well enough to communicate. Second, the manager tried to argue with me about the Groupon not being correct and demanded to see the receipt - and then STILL did not want to honor it after I showed her the email receipt. After they argued for over 15 minutes more about the barcode on the proof of purchase... they finally agreed, given that the business name was on it and clearly it stated "paid" AND the code they were looking for was there (just not where she was used to seeing it.) What a total waste of time. If everything else wasn't already booked for a week, I would've walked out the door right then. Next, the nail technician sanded my previous SNS nail polish but the initial sanding was so excessive- so much that i experienced pain on my nail beds. My nails are normally so strong that folks think that they are fake. By the time the technicians finally put down the sander to soak my nails in acetone, my nails were very flimsy and paper thin. I was very nervous they would break immediately .....and they did. Please see the pic I attached. This was not my first time at the rodeo with an SNS dip and the entire process was wrong. Clearly NOBODY knew what they were doing. To make things worse, some of the containers with the polish colors were mislabeled so when I picked a color, what they came back with was shades brighter. Yet they kept insisting it was the right color. I had to argue about that too, until ultimately I had to settle for a different color or I was never going to get out of there. What normally takes not even 45 minutes almost took 2 hours. As you can see by the pictures, they did not even do a good job with the finish. Look at all the edges. The finish is NOT uniform - spotty, streaks, and I'm going to have to get them redone at some point BUT I can't right now because my nails are too sensitive and thin from all the abuse. However, I did feel bad for the poor technician and still gave her a tip. Hopefully she will learn but I'm not a Guinea pig. My biggest disappointment was with their lack of accountability. Nobody ever said they were wrong or apologized at any point in time. I was the one that was wrong, of course - the customer. I'm going to ask Groupon for my money back and will NEVER go back again. EVER. Update- this was February 13....over a month later my nails still haven't recovered and because they sanded my nails to a point of pain, I cannot get my nails done and they break constantly. read more

Nice, neighborhood salon with incredibly reasonable prices and full services. I went in for a haircut, root touch up and highlight. Anna, the owner, did a color consultation with me and directed the student who did my root color. I appreciated that they offered to do a manicure while I my root color processed. I was able to have a gel removal and manicure done by a student. Anna did the color application for my highlights along with a student assistant. My dark hair takes forever to lift and Anna was watching the lightener diligently as she did not want to fry my hair. My highlights came out beautifully- people stop me on the street and ask me who did my color. I will definitely go back and recommend it to others. Expectations: some of the mail services may take longer as students are performing them for practice. The end result result was good though- just expect a simple, uncomplicated manicure with polish- no designs. read more

I would give this place one star, but the people were really nice, so that counts for something. I had a manicure and some facial waxing. Unfortunately the wax room and my manicurist scores very low on hygiene - which is my main issue with this place. I was asked to lay on the same bedding as everyone else - no paper cover (yuk) and a mediocre wax job. My manicurist seemed nice, but no English, poor hygiene, dirty looking, dirty nails, rough hands. Just. Really uncomfortable experience all around. Do not let them cut your toenails with a cuticle trimmer! I should have paid closer attention to the very nice woman who started my pedicure. I was chatting with a friend, saw the trimmers, assumed they were for detail cutting...then a chunk of my big toe's nail was gone. The woman was really apologetic, put disinfectant where it was bleeding... She had cut 3/4 of the way down the side of my nail, into where skin attaches. I did zero polish because I didn't want it to get in the cut. At the time I felt more pain on the other side of the nail bed but didn't see blood. When I got home and put on glasses, I saw that she had cut deep into the sides of my other toe, too. I give this place 2 stars because the woman was so nice and did a great leg massage. The rest of my nails were sad (jagged, cut crazy close, cuticles not touched), but I didn't notice that until I was home (glasses, again). It could have been her first time doing a pedicure, and my friend liked her pedi and person. The one actionable piece of advice I have is do not let them cut your toenails with a cuticle trimmer! Regular toenail clippers cannot injure to the same degree. read more

Twice...months apart...I've made an appointment, only to discover that there was no record of it. The first time, I waited for the manicurist to finish with a client. I came here to get my hair cut and balayaged after moving from Vegas and not getting my hair done for 6 months so, I can't speak for the other services. I scheduled my appointment over the phone almost a week prior and when I checked in, they didn't have anyone available to do my hair. One of the ladies volunteered after finishing up nails for another client. I showed her a photo of what I wanted, asked her if she's able to do that and how many sessions/how long each session would be to achieve it & she told me only 3 hours. I was shocked because I have naturally black hair, which in my experience, takes longer to and more sessions to achieve blonde. I kept asking her if she's sure she could do it. What I should have done was just walked away at that point because 5 hours later not only was the result NOT what I wanted, but it was hideous. No offer for me to come back to have it fixed or anything, they just kept reassuring me that it looked good and that it is a more natural look & therefore, better? Bad haircut bad treatment. I requested that Cindy 2 let me explain the hair cut I want and how my hair dries. She refused and rushed me through a shampoo. When we sat down for the haircut she reached for scissors and a hunk of hair. I stopped her and told her I want to tell her what I want and explain about my hair. I want a bob, which should be shorter in back than in front and the hair down my neck trimmed with scissors. I explained that 1) I have cowlicks at each temple so the hair pulls up when it dries and 2) the clippers leave a rash on my neck. The first thing she did is cut a big chunk from the front. I made her stop and start cutting from the back so she could tell how long to leave the front. After that she only cut the back and then started using clippers on my neck. I have a shorter hunk in front on one side of my part, the back is short, the rest of both sides are the same length as when I walked in,my neck is developing a rash, and I am in tears. She just argued that it was exactly like the picture on her phone and that the hunk in front wasn't shorter. Tired of the arguing and being treated like wanting a nice haircut was an inconvenience I paid and left. Now I will have to pay to go somewhere else to get it fixed. read more

I found Anna's to be clean, professional and customer friendly. Prices are comparable to the more upscale salons. I have stiletto nails which some salons don't do or don't do well but Anna listened to what I wanted and didn't do what she thought I should have. The location is easy with parking in rear. Absolutely horrendous. I paid $50 for a men's hair cut (my hair is short - less than 4" long), yet some how the stylist managed to make me look like a 5 year old boy. You know, just one of those cuts that screams "My Mommy cut my hair to save money." Absolutely unacceptable. It was so bad that I went to another salon immediately after to have them fix my hair. I've been coming here for a few years and honestly don't know why I keep going back. Today was the straw that broke the camel's back. I went in today to get a small trim and some layers on my extremely long hair which is mid back length (photo of previous hair below taken the night before; it was curled so it's a lot longer straight). I asked for two inches cut off at the bottom and two layers. What I got instead was about eight inches cut off at the collar bone. I cannot even begin to understand why Cindy did this when I was very clear on what I wanted. To start, she didn't even realize I had an appointment, she was unprofessional, she didn't bother to listen to what I wanted and she cut the hair impulsively and carelessly. She know she messed up because she offered to not have me pay. Once I got up, she stormed off and her colleague asked me if I was okay. Her colleague confirmed that she overheard me only ask for two inches trimmed and two layers. She told me she wasn't sure why Cindy cut it so short. It's honestly such a shame because it took me a really long time to grow my hair to how I had it and I only wanted the ends cut off. Overall, this experience speaks to the unprofessionalism of the salon and the lack of customer service. Come here because: 1. it's easy to make an appointment online 2. they have a huge variety of gel (CnC) & matching non-gel polishes. 3. friendly technicians Cautions: Limited SNS / dip powder nail colors (~40 mostly reds/pinks/nudes) Technicians skill levels are varied (I had Le? and Minhdy?) My regular pedicure was good & thorough, but took an hour. A bit of a miscommunication that she didn't wrap the gel I already had on my nails. My manicure was decent minus a minor cut on my pinky. I have tried several nail salons and Anna's is by far my favorite in the area. I stumbled upon her salon one night on my way home and decided to stop by, It was closing by the time I came to the front door but Anna took me in. I got a pedicure and dip nails done. My nails lasted two and a half weeks and the only reason they chipped was because I kept biting them. I also tend to do a lot f house work so naturally they began to chip away. My pedicure was the best one I have gotten to date. They were thorough, clean, organized. I really don't understand why some people give such terrible reviews. I had a great experience and Anna ( the owner) made sure that my needs were satisfied. You are probably wondering why not give 5 stars, well I never do. My father once told me I never give you a 10 because there is always room for improvement. read more

I have very short, thin hair which doesn't require a lot of work. Therefore, I am disappointed at the following situation. On 09/21/2020, my first visit, I had a haircut which was good & reasonably priced. I made an on-line appointment for 10/11/2020 to get hair color ($75.) At the appointment, it was suggested to add highlight; no price discussed. Lan applied color & I was surprised that Anna applied the highlights. Before blow drying my hair, Lan started to cut my hair & I said I was ok with the length & didn't need a full cut. Lan said she would only trim a little in the back. When done, I prepared to pay & was extremely shocked that the charge was $160.00!!! I have never paid such an amount for very short hair. When I asked, Anna told me it was color, highlights & a CUT! I was in the shop from11:00am to 2:00 pm & never offered even a glass of water contrary to what the brochure states. Rather than get into a discussion regarding the very high price, I paid & left a tip & walked out paying $180.00!!! This wasn't a boutique salon, but a regular salon. My family has been coming to this salon for the 15 years, and, with the change to Anna's Salon, it is even better. I have tried a lot of other salons in the Arlington/Alexandria area for partial highlights and hair cut for my very thick, long hair. Last year I was in a rush and my normal stylist was out of town, so I tried Anna at Anna's Salon and have been going back ever since. She suggested I "break" the overly blond base with a color more like my natural dishwater brown, and then add in blond highlights and some darker low lights. The result has been great and I can go 10 or even 12 weeks without horrible grow out at the roots. I have a gotten a couple of hairs cuts by Anna and again she did a great job of thinning my bushy hair with long layers. Usually, my husband gets his hair cut here every few weeks (and has been for last 15 years), and we started bringing our young kids as well. We tried a couple other places for the kids, but Anna has been the best for their hair cuts. Cindy is good too. My daughter has thick wavy hair, and she needs long layers to help contain the frizz. It's not as easy as it sounds, and Anna does a great job. My son has thin straight hair, which looks bald if cut too short (hair is blond). Anna does a great job to get short hair for him (easier to take care of), without making him look bald. Their haircuts are always perfect. I highly recommend this salon, and Anna and Cindy especially for hair. I have also gotten a pedicure every now and then and it has been really nice and especially since they remodeled and became Anna's Salon. read more

I just left here. I live relatively close by and saw the grand opening so figured I would try it out. The 20 only 4-5 star reviews should have tipped me off to something unusual but figured I'd go for a gel mani and basic pedi. I scheduled an appointment with someone and it was confirmed, I arrive at the salon and they tell me I will be seeing two people neither of whom I scheduled my appointment with. It went downhill from there. The pedicure tech didn't cut me to where I bled (and didn't say anything) once but TWICE! And then proceeded to use an Emory board on top of my nails including the two where she broke skin until I finally said something. She also didn't wear gloves. I saw her dilute the nail polish she was using on my toes. It went even further downhill with the manicure. I was seated at a spot with a clean towel, then the male tech asked me to move where he had just finished. He literally didn't clean up at all. I had to ask him to change the towel from the prior person! Gross! And then he proceeded to use the same tools until I said something. I should have walked out then but I stayed and then noticed that they are not properly sterilizing their tools. I've worked in healthcare and in order to sterilize you must seal up the package and then it shrinks it very tight once it's clean. None of their packages are like this so i assume the tools are in there to look sterilized but never sealed and pressurized. Had I noticed that during the pedicure I would have walked out. Lastly with the manicure, the gel was so diluted that it took FIVE coats of polish. Now the gel is so thick on my nail it feels like I have acrylic. I will never return here, despite hoping it would be my new spot in the neighborhood. They aren't any cheaper than anywhere else so save yourself and go anywhere else. read more

There are more cuticles than when I came in and bc they couldn't get my color well, they kept using nail polish remover which dried our my hands. Pedicure wasn't great either. There was a combo price on the website and when I showed it to the front desk, she laughed and said it wasn't correct and wouldn't honor it. Good haircut, but I was surprised by the $9 up-charge on checkout. I booked an appointment for their "Featured" $26 haircut and shampoo. I got a nice shampoo and one-length 1/4" trim (no blow dry or styling). When I checked out, they charged me $35. I asked why it was more expensive than advertised, and I showed them their website. They told me that price was for men only (nothing on their website said this was for men only, and no one mentioned my appointment booking was for men only when I booked or checked for my appointment). Not sure why my 20 minute simple trim was more expensive due to my gender, and I am disappointed that their advertised "featured service" prices do not reflect what they actually charge. read more
