Oh HELL NO. Called at 7:10PM to confirm hours (open until 8PM) and if I could get a gel manicure. Whomever answered said sure, come now. Confirmed that I was on my way. Showed up at 7:20PM to find the door locked, but saw three technicians sitting and chatting. The gray-haired techician came to the door and told me they were closed and to come back tomorrow. I got my nails done at this place and it was one of the most traumatic experiences I've had at a nail salon. In dire need of fresh manicure and pedicure while taking care of so many things at once I decided to give this place a try because I heard good things from their clients. However, I arrive early to my 11AM appointment and right off the bat, Kelly was rude and bothered that I wanted to learn more about what type of gel nail polish they use since I usually get European manicure. I have included a picture of what my nails looked like (red) before I got this pink color. While she was removing my European manicure she kept shaking my hands to make them face towards her and I thank god have the self awareness to realize this and decide to help her by staying still (the whole time actually). This continued on for so long that I literally lost my cool and asked her if she is new to doing nails and if I could help her in any way. She said she's been doing nails for 30 years and she's the owner of the salon. I couldn't help myself and blurted out laughing. At this point I am frustrated and I was shocked to see how lousy of a job she was doing. I couldn't leave because she had placed foil everywhere and I had a tight schedule ahead of me. Long story short, I ended up with nails that were cut super uneven, ugly and lousy. Don't even let me talk about my pedicure, I would post a picture of how horrible they are but I don't want my pics out like that. She literally painted over the cuticles and I got gel. So, I had gel plastered all over my toesies! It was a sight I never want to see again, thanks to Kelly I am a better planner. It's really something about this establishment that gives an un-welcoming vibe. The staff do not know how to speak to patrons appropriately and come across as rude. I've tried to give this place some support and liked the fact you can keep your pedicure toe separator, buffer and filer for future use. But their attitude is nasty! I was waiting for my service and has the nail polish sitting on the arm of the chair, the lady yelled telling me to put it on the side table. It was just her tone and I let her know *kindly* "don't worry it wasn't going to fall". I read other reviews on here and it appears they're rude to other patrons. Used to be my favorite place.. This place will tell you one price over the phone and before you get your service, but after they charge your card it is a completely different price. DO NOT GO HERE! Seriously, I was told my service would cost $49, but when I asked for the total after the service she told me $76. When I (quietly and calmly) questioned why the price changed she completely changed her demeanor and because very rude. I used to love this place, but this happens too many times. I've gone to Poppy Nails several times. They do an okay job - not perfect but pretty decent. My problem is their customer service. I've walked in, asked if they're available for a pedicure, they said yes, I waited 30 minutes, and THEN they informed me that I would have to wait for three other people ahead of me (who arrived 20 minutes after me) who had appointments. I don't mind letting people with appointments take priority, but they should have told me right away instead of making me wait. Because of that, I no longer had time in my schedule to find another salon and I didn't have time to wait. Needless to say, it wasn't a great experience. Pedicures are great but if you're a fan of square tip French this isn't your place because I went inside and was informed they don't do it. I clarified to ask if they just don't have anybody who knows how to do it and yes, that's issue, they don't have any techs that know how to do it. In all my years of nail salons, that's bizarre because even the most back country nail salons can do French. Anyway, great pedicure, if you like cute nails, I'd say pass on it. read more

I've visited this salon twice for my first try at a SNS manicure. Amy was amazing and very meticulous. An SNS removal and full set cost me $65. Even though my nails turned out beautiful, I couldn't justify adding this biweekly expense and drive from DC to my budget. I would definitely return for a gel manicure if I'm in the area. read more

One thing about me - I'm VERY particular about my nails, both hands and feet. I get my nails done monthly without fail and at approximately $100 a session, it's important to me to get what I pay for. This isn't my usual nail salon but I decided I wanted a change of scenery and came in on a Friday before a holiday party. It was pretty empty but Sue and Lynn were super sweet. First things first, I wanted a dip (SNS) mani and a regular pedi. I was looking for a metallic red color but unfortunately they didn't have any metallic options for dip. I ended up picking a golden warm sparkly brown SNS color but couldn't find a matching regular polish for my feet. Sue ended up literally mixing colors for me to create the color I wanted - much appreciated! The pedi was pretty standard but the manicure was meticulous. Sue was diligent about making sure the shape was what I wanted and made sure my nails weren't sticking after the SNS. Little things like that make a difference! She was also very clean about the dip - no residue was leftover under my nails. I can see myself coming back here! It would be great if they could get more dip colors! read more

After months without a pedicure and being afraid to go out much with Covid, I decided to try this place out as it is right next to my physical therapist and people gave it great reviews. I was very pleased with the pedicure service, and the salon is following all the recommended hygiene protocols. There was hand sanitizer at every pedicure station, and plenty near the manicures. Everyone wore a mask, including customers. I like the smaller size of the nail spa, as the one I was going to before was larger- too many people now for me. I had such a good experience that yesterday I went back for both a pedi and mani. I went when they opened at 10am and for a while it was only myself and one other customer there. I've been here probably 6-7 times now and have never been disappointed. I've had a few different technicians and was at first concerned each time if they would do as good of a job as my previous technician. And every single one has been fantastic! They do a great job color matching my inspiration from Pinterest (basic, I know) or help me pick a color that would look good with my skin tone or nail length. I usually go during a weekday morning and have no wait. But today I went (it's Saturday) and they were super busy-usually means that there will be a long wait and bad nail job. But, while I had to wait a little bit for a technician to be available. I was seen in an orderly fashion and my nails look better than ever. I LOVE POPPY NAILS!!! This is my SNS manicure with tips AFTER almost THREE WEEKS. Sue did a PHENOMENAL job!! She takes her time and won't let you walk away until she is satisfied. After leaving the salon that day, my nails were a little too long for my liking. I was trying to be adventurous by getting a longer length, but I wasn't feeling it a few hours after leaving. The first time I came here, I was turned down because they were closing at 7pm although I showed up at 6:15. They told me, 'No time'. They didn't even ask if I wanted to make an appointment for the following day or whenever my schedule would allow me to revisit and try this brand new place. Looking past that, I decided to return and see what they were about. I was desperate for an eyebrow wax, so I told them I just needed a clean up, as I like my eyebrows a little on the thicker side. The atmosphere of this place is relaxing and the decor is very beautiful. Everything is very clean and the staff (as opposed to my first encounter with the staff) was polite. My eyebrows came out perfect and I was so happy. Came back today with my boyfriend for two pedis... They were short staffed and we felt really rushed. They had a great selection of nail colors, so I was impressed with that. They are very sterile and use new utensils and the hot towels are amazing. The water for soaking your feet could have been a little hotter, but I guess better safe than sorry. The only complaint is that my boyfriend and I both got cuts on our cuticles from them clipping them too closely. I was even bleeding. I think I will only be returning for either eyebrows or manis... I may give them another chance to do my toes as they are conveniently located around the corner from my house, but not definite. * UPDATE: This place must have taken the time to actually train their staff, because they are now my favorite place to receive a manicure and pedicure. My gel manicure always comes out so accurate and precise. The last time I went I didn't have to get my nails done for 3 1/2 weeks. The pedicures are legit as well however, the water in the pedicure basin is either scalding hot or freezing cold. That can definitely be overlooked and adjusted, however. some of the staff members did also change (I am assuming for the better, because the rude woman who told me she didn't have time to take me and didn't even bother with scheduling me is no longer there). Very over priced and nail techs do not listen to what you want. I asked for a certain shape on two occasions. On the second occasion, I even showed a picture and was told that they will not do that shape. It's a simple ballerina shape. I just moved to this side of Alexandria and am in walking distance to this location. I brought two friends with me as well. Two of us got gel manicure, full sets and the other got a gel pedicure. They rushed us to pick colors and be seated. Several times, my technician was distracted and looking back, while using the electric buffer and hurt me. She was constantly yanking my hands, as if a person wasn't attached to them. Halfway through the process, I realized she hadn't done any prep work to my nails or cuticles. I leaned over and asked my friend if her nail technician had trimmed her cuticles and/or nails etc. she said no. I then asked my nail technician why, and she replied, "this is $10 extra." We ended up paying $65 for them to slab on some tips and gel polish. No hand massage at the end or anything. When it was time to pay, my friend that had the gel pedicure was wayyy overcharged from what the brochure at the reception stand had stated. When we asked why, we were told, "gel take off is extra". Meanwhile, we are looking at the brochure and it's still not adding up... we point this out and the lady that had done my nails begins to yell at the other staff in another language. She then tells us that this is an old brochure and they have new ones. She takes all the ones on display and ours from us and replaces them with new ones she had gone to find, all while yelling at the other staff. Attached is a picture of my nails, not even 5 days after my "manicure" browned, chipped, and "grown out" because she didn't even go all the way up with the powder. So much for looking nice when I go home for the holidays. Worst customer service ever! The staff here apparently think they're simply entitled or that there aren't other nail salons on nearly every corner of the city. They are not friendly and do not "thank you" for your business. I came in for a pedicure, however the technician never greeted me, just pointed to have a seat and asked if I had selected a color. No pleasantries and hardly any eye contact. Then, another customer who'd ruined her own polish (the day before) came in to have the nail repolished. Yet, instead of having her wait her turn, my technician stopped my service and attended to this customer. So, I was required to wait in the middle of my service!!! What?!? No apologies or excuses were made, she just moved to the other customer. In addition, I was not offered water whereas other customers were given water. Once I paid for my service and asked about the water situation suddenly there's a language barrier...what?!? Yet and still, I did not get any water nor a thank you for my business. Again, the lack of basic customer service is appalling. Perhaps, you have to look a certain way and have natural born privilege to get good service here. Whatever the reason, I won't be back! My hunt for a go-to nail salon in Alexandria may finally be over! Had the BEST experience here today with my boyfriend's 6 year old daughter in two no less. Gorgeous, clean salon with lovely, friendly staff. No high pressure up sales, just smiles and quiet conversation. Lynn was amazing, helping me pick a beautiful soft palette and encouraging my little one in her quest for a "pretty black" (a beautiful subtle glittery noir polish). The chairs were amazing with great massage options and a foot bowl worthy of queens (beautiful iridescent multicolor glass). And the price can't be beat; we paid $90 for 2 pedis, a regular mani and a gel mani. Still cannot believe it as I've spent more on just one subpar mani before. This place is AMAZING. Will definitely be coming back. Pro tip: call ahead for an appointment, I can see this place getting very busy!! There is a sign in sheet as you come in the door, too. And maybe arrive a little early to give yourself time to pick out your polish...the color selection is extensive and awesome:-) read more

This used to be my go to salon. Lynn does a great job. Unfortunately, my experiences with them have gone down hill. I've made an appointment on several occasions and when I show up, I need to wait in excess of 25 mins past my appointment time. There is no consideration for my time and they don't communicate they are running late. I called to confirm my appointment and the owner hung up on me. She is incredibly rude and dismissive of her costumers. Based on the reviews, this seems to be a trend. I have had my nails done several times at poppy. Both mai and gel pedicure. I had a gel mani and a pedicure 12/11/21 at 630 pm. I went to St. Lucia on vacation 12/12/21. Two days after, two of the gel on my right hand peeled off. The gel on the thumb of my right hand began to peel 4days later. I returned from St. Lucia 12/19/21 at 1150pm. I called the salon told them above and was told to come in to the salon from 230-3pm to fix my nails. When I came into the salon, my nails were looked at by the owner and I was told that my nails had grown that they were done over 10 days ago. I told the owner, she was the person who did my nails, that she did them 12/11/21 at 630 pm, that I was in St. Lucia when my gel peeled from my nails off two days after she applied it. She continued to act like I was lying about my nails, told me to find the color myself to fix the nails! So rude! I left without getting my nails fix and said I will never do business with them again! I spend a lot if money there, my boyfriend also gets pedicures there also! We tip generously!! We will spend our money at a Solon that takes pride in there work and honors repeat customers and not waste our time and money at Poppy again read more
