Been through a lot of pizza places around Bethlehem, and Sal's seems to be one of the best.

I had dinner with my family two Saturdays ago. It was not crowded at all which is a good thing because it is tight quarters there. The meal was pretty on eventful. The problem arose when I apparently had dropped my parking validation ticket on the floor and although The owner claimed to have picked it up she never asked anyone at our table if it was ours and then proceeded to misplace it. I was told that all I needed to do was go to the garage tell them I lost the ticket and they would raise the gate up for me. Unfortunately that was not the case as their policy is to charge the max amount that is allowed which in this case was $10. I went back to the restaurant to report that and she wants again and see if they could locate my ticket. I feel for good customer relations and the fact that they have found and then lost my ticket that they should've picked up the tab for my parking. This was the first restaurant my wife and I found when we moved to Bethlehem. We go back on a weekly basis The pizza is great and they will make any combination you want. Staff is family and old pros and aim to please. Gets busy and you may have to wait but it is worth it. The garlic nots will lower your blood pressure. read more

The food was surprisingly really good. The delivery was fast and the driver was very friendly. I wouldn't say that the pizza blew me away, but it was very good, NY style pizza. I also had a chicken cheese steak with hot sauce and it was also good. Again, not blown away, but presently surprised. If I were in the area, I would order from Sal's again. read more

I came here with my friends on a Friday night around 7pm. It wasn't very busy (Half of the already small restaurant was empty and stayed like that the entire time we were there) and we were seated right away. They brought us menus, garlic bread, and took our drinks right away. Then it started to go south. We went to order and I ordered off the "10+ Under" (that's exactly how it's written) menu. I'm not 10 but I wanted a smaller portion. The waitress then asked me what salad dressing I wanted. I asked if a salad came with the kids menu because usually it doesn't and I wanted to make sure. She said yes so I asked for honey mustard. My friend asked if they could make a smaller size of an item that wasn't on the kids menu and the waitress said, "I don't know so I'll check". She then asked what dressing she wanted and then left. Our waitress brought out our salads but before we could touch them, the manager (I assume who she was at least) came to let us know they could do the small baked Ziti but not the other item so she said she would have the same as me. She then started to complain about how we order from the children's menu. "You're obviously not children" and "I'll let it slide this time but the cook really doesn't want to make smaller portions. If it were a weekday it'd be different". She then told us that children's meals didn't come with salads. She said she would have to charge for them, or we could get the regular size and split it and she would only charge for one salad. I then tried to explain to her how the waitress said that our kids meals came with them and how I even asked the waitress if the kids meal came with them. She then said they were already made, but I didn't want a salad and neither did my friend so we weren't backing down. I was doing my best to stay calm and respectful because she was an adult and this was just a misunderstanding. She then started to get annoyed with me defending my friend and myself and said that she would take the salads. Throughout the time we were there, whenever she walked by she either glared at us or didn't look at us. When the pasta dishes came out, they were delicious. We both thought our pasta was really good. When my other friend's cheese steak came out, it was really soggy but she enjoyed it. We were asked once by our waitress how we were doing after that. The other customers were constantly asked how they were and the manager was walking around talking to them, purposefully ignoring us. Our waitress never came back to check on us after that during our entire hour visit. We ended up having to ask a different waitress who came to clear our plates if we could have our check. She said she would let our waitress know, it was another 10 minutes before we got our check. As we were paying, the manager put on this super sweet act and even called my friend honey. All in all, the food was great but after being treated as poorly as we were, I will not be dinning at this restaurant again. read more

Total ripoff. To begin, we reserved for a group and when some of us showed up they told us we had to wait outside (in the rain) until EVERYONE was there before we could sit at our RESERVED table. We got through ordering and with the slow service we eventually got our food. The real issue came with the bill. We asked if we could split it, most of us split a pizza between 2-3 people and some got entrees for themselves so we all wanted to pay for what we got. The waitress essentially demanded we have one person pay for it all and the rest of us figure it out. She said "it's hard to split the check and I have other customers to deal with". They charged us for 16 fountain drinks when all of us except 2 got water. They charge BS fees like "seat fees" and "sharing fees". I will never return to this restaurant. read more

Sal's was great when it first opened a few years ago, but has been on the decline for a while. I've been there maybe a dozen times since it opened. Seating is tight/cramped, but the place doesn't seem as busy as it used to be. The pizza slices are very small compared to the past. They're also more expensive now, too. I forget the exact price but probably the highest per-slice in the area. The owner's wife doesn't like to give out change. Meaning, if she rings you up and she owes you $1.40 in change, you're only getting a $1 bill back. This has happened a few times and I've always been too dumbfounded to say anything. read more

I've been looking for a good Italian place since I moved to PA from NYC 3 years ago. I found none could exceed my own cooking so I was pleasantly surprised when at work last week some reps brought a catered lunch to my office. The food was so good I had to ask where this food was from.... One thing is the food was at ad bit oily and I'd like a little more Italian seasoning flavor than the garlic that stands out more than the rest. But garlic is never a bad thing for an Italian like myself, so I'm good. The best penne and vodka I've had in PA, that was perfect! read more

WE LOVED THIS RESTAURANT! The portion sizes are huge and fairly priced. The service was excellent, and everyone was so friendly/nice to us. Cute, cozy,& casual Italian restaurant located in the south side of Bethlehem. I went here last night with my boyfriend....waitress was prompt and friendly-she answered any questions we had about the menu, and if she didn't know the answer...she asked them in the kitchen right away. We were served garlic bread -yum! I ordered the Seafood Combination-shrimp,calamari,clams& mussels in a red sauce over linguine....the sauce was tasty (some restaurants make their sauce too sweet, but I loved this sauce), and the pasta was cooked perfectly. It was a large serving. There was no way I could finish it,so the rest was taken home to be enjoyed later. The meals also came with fresh garden salads,which we ordered with the dressing on the side ( We never know when a salad will be overdressed so we play it safe). The BF ordered Veal Parm over fettuccine , which I tasted. The veal was tender and flavorful with the same tasty sauce. We were offered complimentary cannolis for dessert. It was just enough sweetness to end our meals! I will definitely be back! read more

Really good complimentary garlic bread. Pizza was okay. Pasta not so much, not worth the $20 price tag. Only 2 very thin butterflied pieces of chicken. Entree was supposed to come with Salad and glass of wine. Was not asked what kind of dressing we wanted or offered the wine like I heard her ask other customers. I suppose she knew we were not locals and assumed we did not read that entrees come with salad and wine. Waitress bought a salad to the table and said shes giving this to us.. like it didnt come with the meal? Never offered the wine. Did not appreciate the unfair treatment. read more

This a great Italian place in Bethlehem. It's BYOB and super small - you frequently have to wait to be seated. It's worth it though. The garlic knots they put on the table will give you bad breath for approximately four days after consuming - but they're so good! The pizza is good - the baked ziti is great. i used to go to Sals on occasion but after a recent visit, it is now on my black list of places not to patronize. the food is good but don't expect to kiss anyone after because of the amount of garlic. i like garlic so it doesn't bother me. the service is mediocre at best. my last time there was during a not so busy weeknight. i ordered baked ziti and my wife just wanted standard penne and meatballs. after about 45 minutes our salads came out. it wasn't the first time i had to wait a long time for my food here. i "hate" to wait for food, especially apps. and when its not crowded. so our food comes out about 30 minutes later, as my wife takes her first bite, the sauce was ice cold and my ziti sauce was cold (how i dont know). not luke warm, but cold as if it was just pulled from the fridge. as soon as we took our bite, the waitress comes over and asks us if the sauce is cold. we say yes and she takes the plates. in 5 minutes she returns to let us know that she microwaved our food. we each had a ring of crusty sauce on the plate from the microwave. if i wanted microwaved pasta i would have called chef boyardee. I'm not paying for microwaved food again. this was the last bad visit in a string of bad experiences. read more

We tried Sal's with another couple before a Lehigh b-ball game in February. The food was really good (a little heavy on the garlic, maybe) and the portions were enormous. They offer complimentary wine, but we brought our own Cab. Enjoy! read more

Stopped here for the first time with friends for lunch. I love Italian food and the food here was excellent - I had chicken parm with linguini. The pasta was done perfectly, chicken was lightly breaded, tender and juicy. Portion was huge and priced very reasonably for the amount. This is a small place, but it was clean, service was good although it did take awhile for the server to take our order. I'm looking forward to going back again! read more

Imagine that small, bustling Italian restaurant where everyone is treated like a regular and the food is amazing. That's Sal's. With an extensive specials menu that changes on a regular basis, there is enough to stuff your face with here regardless of what you are looking for. The pesto pizza is worth checking out! And if you like garlic, then you will love the garlic bread you get before dinner. Of course, if you don't like garlic, then you have no business at a place like this. It can feel a bit cramped when busy. But grab a bottle of your favorite wine (it's byob) and enjoy feeling like you have been invited into some else's family dinner. read more

Living just up the street, my boyfriend and I used to get take-out from here once every few weeks for dinner and it was always a delicious treat. When we found ourselves with nothing to do one afternoon, we decided to actually dine in for once for a late lunch. I wish we hadn't, because then we could just remember Sal's fondly. We were the only table in the restaurant for the duration of our stay and were greeted warmly by the woman behind the counter when we walked in. That was the high point of our afternoon. A different woman emerged as our server, and we received no hi/hello/how are you or any variation of it from her. It was like she just wanted us out as fast as possible -- she quickly cleared our unfinished and still wanted appetizer without asking if we were done or if we wanted it boxed as she passed by, and literally took my entree plate from me as I was putting a bite in my mouth. It was... weird. I also suspect there is a pretty different day/night kitchen staff, as our lunches just weren't as good as we remembered our dinners being. I just love their Pink Cream Sauce so much...Shrimp & Crab meat Pizza is using that sauce and it's definitely the best pizza ever!!!

We went here on a surprisingly slow Friday night. We have eaten here a few times and the food is very good. The service, however, is horrendous. I totally understand when a waitress is swamped with too many tables but we were maybe 1 of 3 tables. Our waitress completely ignored us for 15 mins while we were clearly done eating and just waiting to pay while she checked on the table next to us 3 times. They got complimentary canoli. We did not. Went for a Sunday night dinner with my S/O. Was blown away by the portions, service, and experience. Highly highly recommend. I am shocked that people like this place. If it wasn't for the amazing waitress - this would have gotten just one star. Gross alert - saw the owner get the leftover garlic bread from a table and reuse it. Are you kidding me. Could that possible be any nastier??? Now onto the tour of Italy. It wasn't so much a tour as it was the same exact taste in three different ways. Ravioli with ricotta. Shells with ricotta. Manicotti with ricotta. They put a red sauce on top that tastes like chef boy-r-d. I had lasagne. It was not lasagne. Not even close. Would love to know what others think is Italian cause this wasn't it.
