    the inside of the restaurant

The description of what 2 Stars means on the Yelp web page sums up my opinion on the food at Anna's perfectly: "Meh. I've experienced better." This restaurant moved into the basement of the BMO building on the corner of George and Lower Water streets about 2 years ago, moving from their old location a block away. I went in shortly after their move to try it out. I tried a Mediterranean combo plate that was very mediocre. What really put me off Anna's wasn't the so-so food quality, but it was the way I saw her treat a member of her staff. The staff member was trying to serve me, but Anna needed something in the back and rudely barked at her employee to bring something to her in the back room. If you're going to be an a-hole to your staff, that's just mean. But if you're going to be an a-hole to your staff in full view of customers, that's also foolish. So that put me off Anna's for a LONG time. I went back to Anna's this week for two reasons. 1) It was pouring rain. 2) Anna's is right next door to my office. I picked up a wrap that was, unsurprisingly, OK but not great. Based just on the food, I wouldn't go back to Anna's again unless their is another storm and I'm more interested in staying dry than having a decent lunch. As for the way Anna treats her staff, I'll say one more thing on that. My experience from over a year ago stuck in my head and I mentioned it to a colleague at work before I wrote this review. She recounted a similar experience that she had at Anna's. That confirmed for me that what I saw first hand likely wasn't an isolated incident.

However, being situated as we are, and working downtown, getting to the 2 Crows and Yeah Yeahs mash-up location on Oxford is a bit more difficult and requires us to be more deliberate than with YY's home base. However, we did finally made it this summer, popping by after work to meet up with a friend who lives in the neighbourhood. It's surprisingly nice inside for a beer and pizza joint, with their pink-green-light wood palette reminding me of an Ottawa favourite of mine and my wife's, Cantina Gia. It's a welcome departure from the well-worn cliché of taprooms with an industrial vibe, and it's much more befitting the residential community that surrounds it. It was nice outside, but quite breezy, so we set up shop indoors. A long banquette with tables comprises the bulk of the seating, with stools along the bar across from it. My wife went with her old favourite, The White (parm, mozza, fior di latte, roasted mushrooms, green onion) while I split The Boss (mozza, onion, roasted red peppers, feta, sausage) with our friend. I was highly intrigued by 2 Crows' hard iced tea, and made that my pizza pairing. The hard iced tea was quite good, not too sweet, and had a refreshingly hit of light carbonation as well. This is a drink that you want in your hand on a hot summer day! Expansions at restaurants can go a lot of different ways; it's hard enough to make one successful restaurant, let alone duplicate the food and its success. While I can't speak to how the business is doing, the food, the food is great. Indistinguishable from the delicious pies at the Dartmouth location, my Boss (the pizza, not my manager at work) had a nice bit of char on the cornicione, a pleasant chew to the crust, and I just love the toppings on it; it just tastes the way a pizza should. It's got the sweet and mildly acidic tomato sauce, salty cheeses, rich and tender bits of sausage, and some veg for additional layers of flavour and contrast. Located just steps from Sully & Porter, 2 Crows + Yeah Yeahs has made this West End block both a boon to the neighbourhood and a destination unto itself, and I hope they keep slinging beers and pizza for years to come.

The other bowl was filled with 90% rice and 10% the rest of the ingredients so, you were paying $12 for the rice. Good food but needs improvement…read more We ordered a pangoa which has "brown rice, avocado, aged cheddar, cherry tomatoes, black beans, corn, cilantro, lime wedge, fiery bbq sauce" with steak as an add-on. We also ordered 2 drinks and a baja burrito to-go. Complaints: - the pangoa was completely missing avocado - the lime wedge was the driest lime wedge I have ever encountered. I don't even know if I got a drop out of it - it felt like the woman who took our ordered was rushing us. We started off ordering a burrito, she asked us if we wanted anything else, and we said "um" and she said total and directed us to pull up. Her mistaking our order was finished a couple of times was very inconvenient. We were also not taking long to tell her the orders as well. We picked everything out before summoning her on the speaker. This was maybe an hour ago from this post. Tips: - the pangoa is very filling and there was a lot of rice. I would ask if they could do half rice and half salad next time
